Definitely over 6'4" up until 15 years ago. Is probably 6'3"-6'3.5" nowadays.
Big King said on 17/Feb/09
Yes, Lou could be at the 6'3"-6'4" rage and his peak height was no more than 195cm. They rounded it up to 6'5".
iClarke-93 said on 7/Feb/09
Could still be 6'3.5 , I think maybe 6'3.25 is probably more accurate though.

Just a thought, I wish this site would use a guy who is exactly 6'0 even as the measuring sick for people. That would make it easier to judge the heights of some of these big bodybuilder/wrestler types. These guys are so big body wise that they dwarf a 5'8 guy and look to be taller than they really probably are. At 6'0 you are able to hang much better with the 6'3-6'4-6'5 guys and you can get a better feel. If you stuck a regular guy that was 4 inches taller than Manum in that picture I bet Ferrigno would just be a tad taller. At 5'8 everybody is going to look way tall.

Been discussed, but you must realize that Rob would probably love that (even though he didn't respond to you comment), BUT, SOMEONE has to be up for the position. Someone who actually MEETS the stars and provides the pics to Rob on a regular basis the way Glenn does AND that guy would have to be 6'0" on top of it. People like that don't grow off trees and I'm sure would want money for their services.

Yes you lose height as you get older, from gravaty, but the taller you are, the hevyer you are and posture all play a part,in the speed of loss,I was 180cm when I was 21 in the Army, now im 46 and only 178cm,this 1.5''loss seems to be about right for an older weightlifter, geoff capes is about 60 now and he said on TV he used to be 6'5.5'' now he is only 6'4''.

2cm is NOT 1.5" Chaz....haha.. 2cm = 3/4"inch. I don't know how you do your math. There is 2.54cm in 1" INCH. Again, you have lost 3/4" inch since you were 21, NOT 1.5". This is about normal. seeing that most men by 50 will have lost 1" and .5" every subsequent decade.

Actually I'm coming around to the idea of Ferrigno being 6ft4 now and 6ft4.5 in his prime. I think the only reason he would've lost 1.5 inches was because if he, like Arnie took steriods during his bodybuilding days. I think those supplements have an effect on your height aswell has your genitals.

His arms were down to 21" for the filming of Hercules in 1982. He reduced his bodyweight from 271 pounds to 262 pounds for the role, but apparently he was in Mr. Olympia like conditioning. I have the pictures from an old Muscle and Fitness magazine. All I have to say is that he would have destroyed Arnold if he had THAT look 7-8 years earlier.

Ola, Lou was at this largest in 1992-1993. He bulked up to 325-335 pounds at just over 6'4". Arms were up to 23.25" pumped and his chest 60" pumped. MAN did he look incredible then. Until recently he was maintaining a bodyweight of 285 pounds but I personally believe that he looks to be around 250 pounds nowadays. It's possible that he is 260-270 pounds but I doubt it.

he competed in the first WSM 1977,he won three of the events, including the car lift, and if you get the chance to see it you will see he was taller then the 6'3''winner Bruce Wellhem, and about the same height as 6'5''shot puter Brian Oldfield,Lou was 6'4.5''and he was much bigger in the chest and back than Hogan,he was one of the first guys to have his chest measured at 60''and his arms at over 23''pump he was a bulked 300lbs at the time, but still less body fat than Hogan,

WOW, where do you pull these stats from??? He was not a BULKED UP 300 pounds in 1977. In fact, he weighed between 270-280 pounds back then and his measured chest measurement was 58".

SuperAnonymous, if Lou were 6'5" in the morning then his 6'5" listings were true but he already claimed his height as 6'4.5" and we don't know on what time he measured that height.
SuperAnonymous said on 13/Dec/08
6'4.5" for Ferrigno peak (6'5" early morning out of bed height). He was as tall as 6'5" Brian Oldfield in the World Strongest Man contest in 1977. He was about 3 inches taller than 6'1.5" Arnold Schwarzenegger (6'1.75" morning out of bed height) in 1975 Pumping Iron.

I do admire how good Lou looks at such an old age. While most bodybuilders become unrecognizable (like once awarded "the most perfectly developed human being on earth" Arnold Schwarzenegger who has heaps of fat everywhere on his body and a weird body proportions), Ferrigno kept himself in incredibly good shape (much like, Serge Nubret who is 73 and looks better than many bodybuilders do in their 20s).

only 250? ok... he was up to 320 in his peak i believe

summer 1993 he was almost 340 pounds. Went down to 318-320 pounds for the 1993 Mr. Olympia in the fall and was back up to 325-330 pounds days later. The lightest this man has ever weighed at his height was 220 pounds in the mid-late 80's. He averages 250-285 pounds though. Today he is looking 250 pounds to me. He could be as high as 260 pounds but I don't think so, considering he appears to clearly have lost height.

ferrigno 6'4 1/4-1/2 peak, 6'3 1/4-1/2 today... thats one inch. fully normal for a big guy in his age. he was listed as 6'5 in all bodybuilding videos so he had to be around 6'4 1/2 peak and just rounded up.

Danimal, what would you say lou's weight is today?

250 pounds.

MY GOD, take lessons in English PLEASE. Carla ferrigno is giving the stats of their SON, whose name is also Louie. She is saying that their son is 6'3" and 245 pounds when Tepper asks her to give their SONS stats. LEARN English. This is SO basic. DO NOT try and mislead people in believing that she was talking about her husbands height and weight. She was talking about their sons. Lou MAY be that height today, but again, this video talks about their SONS height and weight, NOT HIS.

We don't know James but it is clear that Ferrigno doesn't look 6'5" nowadays. A human can't lose two inches because of weightlifting. The only result is that his 6'5" height announcement was obviously a fake. If Lou said 6'4 1/2" in his prime then he was no taller than that. Maybe there was a possibility that Ferrigno was 195cm (maybe straight out of bed).
Anonymous3 said on 25/Oct/08
yep I agree with Danimal, rounding up or down is the norm for height estimates.
Big King said on 25/Oct/08

And if Lou was 6'4 1/2" in his prime then I don't know why the hell he was listed at 6'5". But being 6'4 1/2" in his prime gives us truly an advice that Lou is almost 6'4" today. So 6'3 1/2" is in the deal.

PLEASE stop trying to use ENGLISH expressions!! You are not doing them any justice....haha. WHY THE HELL was he listed at 6'5" if he was only 6'4.5"?? Do you REALLY have to ask that question kid? It's called rounding up, which is 101 in height estimates. People also round down as well just in case you get confused again one day ;).

Yes, there is at least an inch height difference between Victor and Lou in King of Queens. If Lou was 6'4 1/2" on this time, then nothing prevents Victor on being 6'6" tall. Victor's height is definitely downgraded for an inch.

His PRIME.

His last measured height was for the Masters Olympia in 1994, where he measured slightly over 6'4". Question is, how much height has he lost in the last 14 years.

supes78 said on 12/Oct/08
Here is part of a 1999 interview he did where he is asked specifically about his height;

Dave: A lot of the fans want to know how much you weigh today and if you are actually 6
Hugh said on 12/Oct/08
I think Lou Ferrigno was a legit 6ft5 at his peak and is now 6ft4.
Big King said on 2/Oct/08
Well, 6'2" and 6' are ridiculous downgraded estimations but you are right that especially Lou's height has been overestimated. Lou has never been 6'5", more likely 6'3 1/2" or 6'4". Maybe he has shrunk from 6'4" to 6'3" yet. Different height results and sources just tell that Lou was possibly 195cm (a shade under 6'5") in his prime. Lou also looked just an inch taller than Eric Bana, who is 6'2 1/4" on CelebHeights. So Lou is just slightly over 6'3" nowadays. 6'3 1/2" or 6'3 3/4" sounds good for Lou's current height.

A human can loose an inch when he becomes over 50 years old. So I guess Lou has shrunk from 195cm to 192cm.
Big King said on 21/Sep/08
I'm sure for 100% that Lous was 195cm in his prime. Nothing above and nothing under.
Hugh said on 20/Sep/08
I agree with Big King. Does look close to 6ft4 today. 192cm is a good listing. Almost 6ft5 at his peak.
Big King said on 20/Sep/08
Lou was possibly 195cm (6'4 3/4") in his prime so I'm sure that his 195cm height got confused with 6'4 1/2" and 6'5". Ferrigno was 195cm and has shrunk to 192cm now. That makes him look almost 6'4" nowadays. So 6'3 1/2" is where I put the money on.
Big King said on 13/Sep/08
I think I found the result. Lou was at least 6'4" in his prime. The 6'5" listings are a joke. And now he lost almost an inch. Lou is around 191-192cm (6'3 1/2") now.
Big King said on 11/Sep/08
Lou looks more 191-192cm. He's something between 6'3" and 6'4".
Big King said on 5/Sep/08
Yes, we know that Lou is almost 6'4" but I doubt if his height was ever 6'5" otherwise it would be ridiculous if a human loosed almost two inches because of his age. Also his 6'4 1/2" peak height is a bit strange but it could be right. And yes, beside Mamun, Lou looks 6'3", beside Rob, Lou looks almost 6'2" but anything under 6'3" for Lou is ridiculous.
jon said on 4/Sep/08

He is at least 6'3 " and if he could manage to stand up straight and sort his posture out then he would be closer to 6'4". Also stood next to Jay Cutler-same height as my mate-5'8" tops but looks so much shorter and Ronnie Coleman 5'10" tops.

His height was stated as 6ft 5in in 'Pumping Iron' several times. I think it could have been his morning height. The sound of 'six, five' resounds in a way, 'six, four and a half' never could, particularly when you enunciate the 'five'. So I'm sure the temptation was there.

Hogan was a small 6'6 peak, about 6'5.5 and is about 6'3.75 now.

Greetings.

If you compare the top photo to the one with Rob and Brandon Routh the difference is about the same, maybe 0.5 - 0.75" considering Lou's leaning slightly.

Yeah,Lou looks a strong 6'3. I noticed his lack of 6'5ness on King of Queens (which I am a huge fan of) where he looks at least 2" shorter than Victor Williams, who I think is 6'5 at bed time.

The man WAS a legite 6'4"-6'4.5" in his younger days. That was his PEAK height. He is almost 60 and like Arnold HAD lost height. You can see how his shoulders tend to slump now. He is around 6'3"-6'3.5" today in my opinion.

TopCuarton,
you are right.

I remember when as a young boy I read on an italian bodybuilding magazine after his victory at the 1973 Mr Universe.

His height was 192 cm. And the IFBB Mag went on saying that he was 8 cm more than Arnold.
Elio said on 13/Nov/07
markus,

It's typical for most modern bodybuilders to have upper arms that are bigger than their calves. There are a lot of current pros that have arms between 22" and 24", but calves that don't even reach 20". There used to be a lot more emphasis on calf development and the ideal is that your upper arms and calves are meant to be roughly the same size.

Strangely enough, Ferrigno has been accused of having calf implants for his 1990s bodybuilding comeback. So obviously that was either just a made up rumour or they've been taken out!
TopCuarton said on 28/Oct/07

He looked to me 3 inches taller than arnold in pumping iron, and an inch taller than his dad who was around 6-3 (190 cm).
He was at least 6-4 (193 cm) and not 6-5 as he was listed back then.
Arnold himself in his youth was slightly over 6-1.
Judgin' from Pumping Iron's barefoot pre-contest frames, I think 186 and 193 are the real heights of arnold and lou.
Supermanfan380 said on 7/Sep/07
I think 6'5" in his youth is right where he was, and he was listed at that in 1977 WSM. ONly 278 pounds, and I think he would have been heavier had he not always been so lean.

Shawn Perrine, a writer for Flex magazine has said this in a forum:

Well, I'm hasitating on Ferrigno's height. Is he really 6' 5"? In King of Queens Lou looked half an inch shorter than Victor Williams (Deacon Palmer). Well, but I think that Victor Williams looks very tall in King of Queens. Is there a possibility to add Victor Williams to celebheights? Victor is often listed as 6' 5" but he is easily over 6' 5". 6' 5.5" or even 6' 6".

Danimal said on 21/Jul/07
WRONG. Lou did NOT compete in the 1978 Worlds's Strongest Man Competition. He competed in 1977.

Hogan edged out Lou by a little bit in their hey day. Hogan was 6'5"-6'6" and Lou was 6'4"-6'5". They are both shorter today of course.
SAM said on 20/Jul/07
Lou was listed at 6'5 278 for the 1978 worlds strongest man competion. I would say that he was always about the same size as Hogan if not taller, If Lou had gone into pro wrestling he would have been listed at least 6'7+ and the sky's the limit for what his weight would have been put at, probably 340+

I met and got a picture with Lou Ferrigno a few years ago at the Olympia contest and he is 6'3" MAX. I am about 6'4" and I was clearly taller than him. That was a few years ago so maybe he's even shorter now!
l0ck n l0ad said on 19/Jun/07
Actually Alex he didn't look that tall to me in Pumping Iron, more like another ordindary 6-4. I'm guessing in reality he must been around 6-4.5" for them to have called him 6-5 unless he was measured 6-5 with shoes (he was always wearing flat trainers). They described him at 6-5 275lbs, I guess off season he's 300+, I can't recall if they mentioned his off season in the documentary.
Leung said on 13/Jun/07
It is a lot of shrinkage and that much shrinkage is very extreme for someone his age but it does appear that Ferrigno has lost a significant amount of height because judging by his recent pics he does look around 6'3", but back in his 'Pumping Iron' days he does look close to 6'5".
Alex said on 12/Jun/07
Lock, I'm still waiting to see someone with lifts in a gym! LOL

What was his in season and off season weights though? I forgot for some reason.
l0ck n l0ad said on 11/Jun/07
I agree Alex, it would be ridiculous for such a legitimately tall guy already to be wearing lifts when working out hahaha, but I can imagine Sly wearing lifts on such occasions tho.
How do you shrink 1.5" in your 50's? Did he have some sort of back problems?
Anonymous said on 11/Jun/07
Ferrigno's head must be longer than 12 inches if just below his eye level is seven inches (i.e., the top of the editor's head).
Alex said on 3/Jun/07
And there shouldn't be any excuses of lift wearing in Pumping Iron either as I'm still waiting for that. Someone doing deadlifts or standing military press with lifts inside their shoes would be crazy.

In all of the pictures above, Lou does not have very good posture. He leans in with the neck forward putting his chin down. That is not how a person stands up straight. For pictures, sometimes tall people will lower their posture. I think currently he may be more than 6'3" and possibly up to 6'4".

Brother_h, Lou Ferrigno was never "billed". Lou is not a wrestler. He is not a character. He was a professional bodybuilder who was between 6'4" and 6'4.5" in his prime. Hogan was a professional wrestler who was billed at 6'8", but was only 6'5"-6'6" in his prime. Both are the same age, but Hogan has had MANY operations, which have taken off a lot of height. He is down to about 6'3"-6'3.5" today.

Lou was 6'4 peak barefoot height, 6'5 in shoes and today 6'3 barefoot. In the US,height of celebs/non-celebs is given in shoes, that would explain the 6'5 listing.

What are you trying to say Danimal? I dont understand your last post very well. I beleive Supes encounter and Rob's for Lou being only 6-3 today.

What's amazing is that The ROCK appeared as much taller over Glenn, as Lou does over the Supes brothers and YET Glenn is only 5'8" and these guy's are 5'9" and Supes claims Lou is 6'3" and The Rock claims 6'4". Something is wrong.

I believe that Lou was a legit 6'4.5" in his younger day. Hovering around 6'4" today, or maybe a bit less.
supes78 said on 4/Sep/06
He was standing straight quite a lot and he never looked above 6'3". I've stated previously though that my brother and I were wearing sandals while Lou was in tennis shoes so that gave him a slight height advantage (maybe 1 inch). But honestly, there'll be no convincing fan boys who refuse to see their childhood idol as anything less than larger than life. I too was the same way until I met him myself. Still a massive guy but not quite as much as I had imagined.

Compare them in all the 1974 Mr. Olympia pics I provided, of them barefoot. I would have expected more from you Viper.

Yeah, Lou has lost height. He was probably just over 6'4" by 1992-1994 (his comeback years) and today is 6'3" and change. I have no doubt that he was 6'4.5"-6'5" in his prime.

BTW, you guys may not know this, but Lou only weighed 220 pounds in that second (group) pic with Dave Draper. For his comeback in the 90's, he went up to 325 pounds!!!! That's over 100 pounds weight gain.

Yes, pics DO lie Gramps, especially when not all of the subjects can be seen. "Lifts" also lie as we all know. Without seeing their feet, what they're standing on, their legs bending, etc.. can't conclusively tell anything from your pic. Is Draper wearing lifts? Is Lou's legs bent or is he stooping a bit just to be at Draper's level for taking a better picture? Danimal's latest full-body one is much more conclusive, plus most body-building sites say Lou was 6'5 in his prime such as this one:

Someone do the math here. I am providing you with a real gem of a pic taken in the early 1980's (1982-1983). It's a pic of Lou with 6'1" Gunnar Rosbo. A HUGE bodybuilder from Norway, who weighed over 240 pounds in competition. They said he could have been the next Arnold. Lou is standing next to him in runner's, which probably give him just over an inch. Take that into account, how many inches do you think he has on the 6'1" bodybuilder? Click Here

Hard to believe that Hogan is less than 6'3" today when you compare him to his 5'11" daughter. He still has what looks like a solid 4 + inches on her. Even that's pretty sad seeing he used to make 6'3"-6'4" men look kind of small back in the day.
Viper652 said on 13/Jul/06
Ill give Lou 6-3 today. Rob met him and said he looked it, though there are some 6-2 sightings of him. Keep in mind I think Hogan might be under 6-3 now as well.

So, if Lou isn't 6'4", then what is he Viper? Take into account, whatever height you give him, that's the same height you're giving Hogan as well, or maybe even less. Gauging from all those pics up there, Lou is at least 6'3.25-6'3.5" and not less. The man claimed to be 6'4.5"-6'5" back in the day and he wasn't a wrestler. He was a pro-bodybuiler.

Lou isnt 6-4 today, but I do think he looked 6-4 back in the 70s.
Danimal said on 11/Jul/06
Lou's 6'4" today. Hulk Hogan is less.
Jordan said on 28/Jun/06
DO you guys think Lou could have shrunk from all the years of heavy lifting? Other wise I do think he is( was) 6'4
armin from austria said on 8/May/06
sClick Here same height as Hulk Hogan
still 6`4

Do you guys think that just because someone has aged some in years that everybody's shrinking? Lou is only about 54 years of age, he's not old! Do you watch King Of Queens? Victor Williams is about 6'5 or 6'6 he and Lou appears to be the same height! Everybody's not shrinking!
Alex said on 30/Mar/06
Jason, Lou's height today I agree on could be 6'2.5 only, but I tell you the man was at least 6'4, maybe 6'4.5 at his peak. He looked it in Arnold's Pumping Iron DVD.
Elio said on 30/Mar/06
supes78, I agree that Arnold is about 6 foot even.

Although I think both Ferringo and Arnold have shrunk just over one inch since their prime.

Prime : Ferrigno 6'4.5" , Arnold 6'1.5"
Now : Ferrigno 6'3" , Arnold 6'0"

Nice to see the editor got to meet Lou himself. I won't argue with your estimation of 6'3" for his height as that is very close to what I put him at too. Now maybe those fans that claim that Schwarzenegger is still 6'2" can concede that the man has got to be around 6 foot tall in reality since he's always been billed as 3 inches shorter than Ferrigno.
Glenn said on 28/Mar/06
Man,ferrigno shrunk!
Elio said on 28/Mar/06
I'm willing to accept that Ferrigno is regraded to 6'3". Any lower, I think would be a mistake. And I still think there's a slight chance he could be closer to 6'4". But, as I have said, judging by many people's stories I think 6'3" is a good safe bet until someone proves otherwise.
Jason said on 27/Mar/06
I did think Lou was (today) just a flat 6'2'', but after your encounter and pic with him I'll give him another half inch to 6'2 1/2'' in my book. ;)

Yeah, I reckon Mick Foley is ~ 187cm/6'1 1/2''. I've never seen him in person, just estimating his heights from wrestlers I have seen and that kind of thing. Did he look that to you?

Editor Rob
189-190cm range I would agree on. As for Foley, really can look a 6ft 2 guy when he stood tall. He doesn't look that tall in my pic with him (yes, I will add this end of week). Of course, he's not near what he has claimed to be in the past, which is 6ft 4, although maybe he's lost some height...hmm. I was looking at some older pics of him, and you know he could look taller in the past...

its much easier estimating guys a few inches within your height, I've changed my mind in the past - i.e. this page after seeing the pic with her I had, she was taller than I first thought...

Jason, Lou was 325 pounds in 1993 and down to 298 the year later. What is so crazy about him being 285 pounds. It's as if I said he was 450 pounds. come on man!!
Jason said on 26/Mar/06
Did he charge you US $20 for his autograph, Rob? :S

In the Night Court episode, Lou is barefoot and Laroqutte has dress shoes. Lou also slouches with his shoulders forward, and not standing straight. The picture with Hulk Hogan--Hogan is closer to the camera. They are about the same height, and the black doo rag on Hogan gives an optical illusion of height. I worked for Rick Springfield who is a tall 6'2". He was on an episode of the "Hulk", and Lou was about two inches taller. My brother who is 6'2", met Lou about 10 years ago, and thought he was about 6'4".

Supes, when was that picture with Lou taken?
Jason said on 24/Mar/06
I got a feeling he'll say 6'5'', though. lol

Editor Rob
well, I'll keep you on tenterhooks till next week...
Jason said on 24/Mar/06
Maybe he doesn't like telling lies.

Editor Rob
I'll tell you what, I'll ask the man about his height...
supes78 said on 23/Mar/06
His massive physique adds to his perceived height, which is why I dwelled on it. I too have Ferrigno's book "My Life as the Hulk" and I found it very odd that he never mentioned his height anywhere. He mentioned his weight many times but he never stated that he was 6'5" tall, which you'd think he'd have mentioned somewhere.

i would love to meet him in person especially at a comic convention that he usually attends and signs autographs for many fans of the hulk tv show and just as an inspiration as well i ordered his book "my life as the hulk" in december as an early christmas present for myself and he doesn't state his height but looking at the photos he is really big compared to the other actors but my knowledge is having owning pumping iron and stand tall on dvd the narrator on both documentaries says he is lou ferrigno 24 yrs old living in brooklyn new york with parents matty and victoria 6 foot 5 275 lbs the largest bodybuilder who as ever competed in the competion that's in pumping iron and matty even says "louie your 6'5" your the biggest thing to ever compete" from his own words and matty is 6-3 even in stand tall the narrator says lou ferrigno 43 yrs 320 lbs yikes 6 feet 5 inches making lou the largest bodybuilder to ever compete for mr olympia so there thats about the closest i have come to getting his actual height it may or not be correct but it's pretty darn accurate in watching the programs hope this answers everything.

I don't think any of us are disputing his physique though are they? This is about his height. As for the King of Queens, I watch the show regularly and in syndication. Deacon (Victor Williams) is NEVER standing right next to him because yes, I actually watched for that on the episodes he was in.
supes78 said on 20/Mar/06
Yeah, this dude is still an incredible specimen in person. Hands down the most buffed guy I've ever met. Although he wasn't as tall as I'd assumed, he was still very imposing and a hell of nice guy. He was the only celeb that was willing to get of their chairs from behind the tables and come pose with fans standing up, shaking hands or embracing. I have some video I shot of that day where I was talking to him for 15 minutes about the show and his thoughts on the 2002 Hulk film. He said is was good but it lacked the heart of the 70's TV series. I couldn't have said it better myself.
bobm said on 16/Mar/06
he's not as big as he used to be during his hulk days and pumping iron and stand tall of course he's around 54 or 55 but is a great specimen in his own way and i would like to see a hulk movie sequel with him having a more onscreen cameo it would be real neat.
bobm said on 16/Mar/06
lou is on the king of queens once in a while playing himself i saw him on an episode oh bout a month ago and is still looking good these days probably shrunk over the years, any way victor willams who plays deacon is tall himself bout 6-5 6-6 at the most and has an inch or 2 over lou in an earlier episode about a couple years ago e although i never saw them stand together so i can't get a read that may give us an idea because they are both tall men.
