@Johno

He was noticeably taller than Gronk when the two stood face to face shortly after shaking hands. Gronk only looked taller when they were facing the camera for photos because the camera position favored him. Not to mention he had thicker shoes than Magic. Click Here
Johno said on 3/Sep/17
He was no taller than 6'6.25 Rob Gronkowski and to me, Rob may possibly even edge him. Is he seriously walking any taller than 6'6 nowadays?
Canson said on 16/Aug/17
Magic is 201cm at his lowest
Kobe is "about" 195cm

Magic has similar difference with Kobe as he does with Michael Jordan maybe an extra half cm or so with MJ (194.3cm).
Junior said on 13/Aug/17
Magic Johnson doesn't look over 2.25" taller than 6'4.75" Kobe Bryant. I've watch the Michael Jackson Funeral Memorial from Youtube there is only 2-2.25 inches between both.
Canson said on 1/Aug/17
@Shane: I can see Fultz as a weak 6'3. Only because of his hair being longer but facing Silver he looks maybe a cm shorter or small fraction less. Also could be Silver may be 6'3 1/8 at his low tho
Canson said on 1/Aug/17
@Shane: I had assumed previously he was a full 6'3". that's what I meant too by full 6'3", 6'3" at his lowest and prob 6'3.75 out of bed maybe a worst case maybe he can go to 6'2 7/8 at night. He's a good legit 6'3" guy imho who claims his true height too
Canson said on 23/Jul/17
Assuming Adam Silver is a legit 6'3" (he can look it imho), I would say Markelle Fultz is between 6'2.5-.75 (he looks a hair shorter in the pic where they face one another when they are all congregated together) and Lonzo about 1.5-2" taller than Fultz and maybe 1.5 at most over the commish. There's a pic with all of the draftees on stage. Lonzo's hair makes it a bit harder to gauge it but with Magic and Lavar he looks more a strong 6'4 guy like Insomniak said. He's a bit shorter than Lavar in a few pics. Imho his father still looks at least strong 6'5" today (6'6" was his listed NFL height) so no telling if he didn't at least manage to be over 6'5.5 at his peak since he has aged and put on mad weight today
Canson said on 22/Jul/17
@JKE168: Lonzo doesn't have a measurement this year. The 6'3.5 is a few years back. I think he grew since then as he was a junior or so in high school. Anywhere in the 6'4" range looks good for him next to magic imho. Maybe a strong 6'4" or so
JKE 168cm said on 22/Jul/17
@insomniak

I think those listings are fake, because I've seen an interview with LaVar where he said that Lonzo wasn't invited to USA Basketball. If this was the case then how where those measurements taken?
insomniak said on 22/Jul/17
I also think lonzo can look 6'4-6'4.5 what's weird is he was measured 6'3.5 for two years in a row I believe. Lamelo is claiming 6'4 now but he looks a couple of inches shorter than lonzo.
Canson said on 20/Jul/17
@Duhon: I think somewhere between 4 and 5. After looking closer he looks over the flat 6'4". Looks taller than his dad on occasion but his dad looks taller more often. I think Lavar can look 196-197 or 197-198 maybe.
Duhon said on 19/Jul/17
I've wondered what Lonzo's real height was since he didn't go through the barefoot draft process. I thought he could be as low as 6'4" but looks 6'5" with Magic.
Canson said on 19/Jul/17
Lonzo actually measured 6'3.5 barefoot but a couple years ago. He doesn't have a pre draft as he skipped it. But i can agree witH Brad he is that height 6'4.5. Magic is 6'7" not 6'6". He's taller than jalen Rose. Lonzo is between 6'4-6'4.5 range no higher than 194cm
JKE 168cm said on 18/Jul/17
@Brad Oh just realized you mean Lonzo.
JKE 168cm said on 18/Jul/17
@Brad Wait LaMelo was measured 6'4.5"? Since when?
Brad said on 18/Jul/17
In the pic with LaMelo who was measured 6'4.5" barefoot he looks 6'6" max barefeet

6'9" is just ridiculous
JKE 168 cm said on 9/Jul/17
Oh I forgot to say that in the first picture Lonzo's in flip flops while Magic is wearing normal shoes.

Canson said on 8/Jul/17
@Chris: OK. so Charles Barkley says he's 6'4.75 and 6'4 1/2 yet you insist he's 6'6 or 6'7. Why should your estimate outrank his? Or his actual Olympic measurement of 6'4 5/8? Or why should your estimate of 6'10 for Bird outrank the NBA measuring him around 6'9"?

@Shane: agreed and it's funny with chris where he says Barkley is 6'6 or 6'7" yet wants to use the because Magic says he is here even when Barkley says he is a certain height too".
Shane said on 7/Jul/17
@Chris it seems quite obvious Magic was claiming his in shoe height when comparing to other players near his height. He was only listed at 6'8" entering the NBA.
RYAN11 said on 7/Jul/17
One reason people (same ones every time) say Majic and others are inches shorter than they really are us because then their low estimates for every other celeb goes out the window. Like someone on Hogans page says Majic was only 6'7" to justify their rediculously low 6'5" for Hogan who was every bit 6'7" and Majic was 6'9" barefoot
Chris said on 7/Jul/17
And none of this even makes sense. You can go and look at pictures now of Magic Johnson stood with Larry Bird, and there is maybe a 0.75 inch difference. Larry is a tiny bit bigger, but it's close.

And you list Bird at 6'9. So it's obvious Magic is as tall as he says he is 6'8 to 6'9
Chris said on 7/Jul/17
Magic Johnson said he was 6'8.5 for a reason. The reason is, he had been measured many times over his career, and probably in his own home, and that's what the tape said.........

Can I ask why you guys think your own estimates (based on never even seeing the guy in purpose) should rank about how tall Magic Johnson says he is?!
Canson said on 6/Jul/17

malone is solid 6´8
Canson said on 29/Jun/17
@Shane: that's possible too. Looking at him with Kobe or Jordan he can look 2-2.5" more at times so he may have dipped under by a fraction
Shane said on 28/Jun/17
@Canson: I think you're 201 for him as a general height (slightly over 6'7") is pbly a good call. I don't think he ever hits 6'8" barefoot tho. 6'7" 1/2 maybe and 6'7" 3/4 tops imo.
Canson said on 25/Jun/17
@Shane: I can actually buy him as a full 6'8" out of bed but he may well dip to that mark after a long day and I'd almost say I can see that. I think he walks around at 201cm peak
Shane said on 24/Jun/17
I think Magic is/was about 6'7" flat. Slightly over that out of bed. Could see him dipping to 6'6" 7/8 of so without shoes.
Bazza said on 22/Jun/17
@Canson - same here. It's amazing to think he is still with us and as good as he ever was, as so many lost the battle to that dreadful disease in the 80's and 90's. One of the most humble guys around, to say he has all the fame and money and always has a smile on his face.
Canson said on 21/Jun/17
I remember the day in grade school when I found out! For someone who we all thought wouldn't still be here 25/26 years ago much less be the VP of the Lakers today and the Businessman he is, he has really been Magic on and off the court.
Canson said on 21/Jun/17
My guess is 6'7-6'7.25 barefoot and 6'8-6'8.5 in a pair of sneaks (out of bed he's 6'8 barefoot)
Bazza said on 21/Jun/17
Iv'e always thought just over 6'7 barefoot for Magic. the listing is pretty good. Definitely 6'9 in his Basketball shoes so i have no problem with him claiming that as they are pretty much all NBA listed 1.5 - 2" taller than their true barefoot. Bird about 6'8.5 barefoot - he always edged Magic out.
Canson said on 19/Jun/17
Agree Rising force. I see magic peak a strong 6'7" and worthy 6'8. Worthy was near Rambis both taller than Buck
Realist said on 19/Jun/17
Those women have to all be under 5'6 because 6'8 is humongous but they look like they're at his elbow.
RisingForce said on 18/Jun/17
I see about 1 cm difference there without guessing what role posture and the low angle plays. If Magic is the height he's listed here then I'd say Worthy just about scrapes 6'8" based on that photo. Magic was listed at 6'8" at the start of his career, iirc, but of course became to be known to everyone as the 6'9" point guard. Always wondered why so many kept calling him that even after seeing him so many times with a visibly taller Larry Bird who was also listed 6'9". I can believe 6'8.5" in shoes for Magic.
Canson said on 18/Jun/17

6ft7 and three quarters seems highly likely! There HAS to be over a foot's difference between the two stars!
He seems like a lovely guy and he talked proudly about his son, like a good father would!
He gets 7ft7.75 from me today!

one could be a good 10-10.5 inches, other maybe 14 or 15 less.

@SJH: all that meant was that magic was closer to 6'7" than 6'9". Doesn't mean he was sub 6'7". He may have been a hair over it too. But I see a solid 6'7" at his lowest for Magic. I think he'd edge Lebron personally.
S.J.H said on 1/Apr/17
@Canson

I copy paste fro Cahrles Barkley page bottom top of page. SI mention magic closer to 6'7 it means more 200cm than 6'7. Like i say many times like lebron james look kind of 199,5cm lowest so magic johnson is 200cm that makes sense right?
Canson said on 1/Apr/17
@Christian: Magic was taller imho. I think Magic didn't get below 6'7" prime whereas Lebron even in his prime did easily get below it
Canson said on 1/Apr/17
@SJH: where did they say Magic was 6'6.75 in SI? I can definitely see it next to Jordan but was curious as to the article. I definitely do not see him at his lowest over 6'7"

6'7-6'7.25 barefoot not 6'8.

Canson, who would you say is taller: Magic (today) or Lebron? I believe Magic at his peak was a strong 6ft7, but he may have lost a bit. Today he may be a weak 6ft7, similar to Lebron.

I am 6-and I stood next to him. We actually went to Rival High schools and I was a year ahead of him. He was about 6-7 then. Last time I saw him in person was 1982. I would say 6-8. 6-9 would be in shoes. Maybe 6-8.5 absolute best bare foot.
Canson said on 5/Jan/17
@Peter179: he's about 2" taller than Manning. He's 201-202 tops but I would err toward Manning at196.
Peter 179cm said on 27/Nov/16
He actually looks a good 8cm taller than Manning in that pic which would make him near 204cm if Manning is 196 but a legitimate 206cm peak Larry Bird always had him by atleast 3-4cm.I'm guessing 202 peak with a chance of being near 203 and around 201cm now.
Animus said on 25/Nov/16
He has admitted to being closer to 6ft8 than 6ft9. Annoyingly, I can't find the source; it might have been a video of some kind. He must have realized that Larry Bird is taller than him, having hanged out with him as much as he has. Interestingly, Larry Bird describes Magic as 6ft9 (cf. interview with Bill Simmons), but I am not surprised that Bird with his somewhat detached, aloof personality wouldn't notice the height difference.
Wallace said on 31/Aug/16
I live in Calabasas and am a season tick holder and have Met him and even hung out with him more than once here in LA. he will tell you in person he's six nine but standing next to my buddy who's six five it's only about two. He's six seven or so

6'8.5 is obviously quite obviously a shoe height. Which is why he assumed stern was almost 6'7 (in stern's high soled shoes) because he classes himself in shoes as well and calls himself 6'9.
Canson said on 22/Jun/16
Well I think this about sums it up. He's got 2" on Peyton. So no chance he's 6'9 and Peyton was reliably measured at 6'5.25. My guess is what Height said is legit as Buck is 56 years old and easily has prob lost height. He's still a legit solid 6'7 if Peyton is 6'5-6'5.25

Canson said on 22/Jun/16
@Danimal: If I had to guess peak for Howard stern may have been 6'5.25-.5 and Buck 6'7.25-.5. A 2" difference. But I doubt stern was near 6'6. I doubt he was ever over 6'5 1/2 barefoot. But you are def right about Magic! Always 1.5" shorter than Bird. Larry is legit 6'9"
Canson said on 22/Jun/16
Danimal Height and Shane all have it right. Chris is notorious for upgrading people even beyond their "billed" heights. That usually signals that wishes they were taller. Magic is 6'7 range as measured at the Olympics prob the 6'7.25 he got
Height said on 20/Jun/16
@Tom

6'8.5"-6'8.75" (204.5 cm - 205 cm) is the height range he was in shoes, depending on the pair of Converse he chose to wear.

Without shoes on, he's in the 6'7.25"-6'7.5" (201 cm - 202 cm) height range.
Arch Stanton said on 15/Jun/16
He's calling his height in sneakers I'm sure.
Shane said on 14/Jun/16
@Chris.. Magic was quite obviously never near 6'9" barefoot. For one, he measured multiple times nearly two inches below. Two, a barefoot listing in the NBA from the 80s on is essentially nonexistent unless specifically requested by player (Durant, Garnett etc)
Tom said on 6/Jun/16
I read Magic Johnson's book. He said that he is 6' 8 1/2" tall. The book was not long after he retired from the Lakers. Also Larry Bird more than one's refers to Magic as a 6" 9" point guard.

Sixseven said on 6/Jun/16
Johnson is 199 cm tall.
Shane said on 2/Jun/16
Magic's 6'9" listing was obviously not a barefoot listing. For one, those are very, very rare in the NBA and usually only given if a player specifically asks for the shorter listing (Durant, Garnett etc)
Canson said on 26/May/16
He's a bit high on here. 201 as measured at the Olympics. 6'7.25 is more realistic. But I guess close enough and better than 6-9 he's listed in the pros
Chris said on 13/May/16
Even in his 50s Magic Johnson is more than an inch taller than Lebron James (who was measure at 6'7.25 flat footed as at the combine). He's at least 6'8 even now.

Larry Bird is maybe an inch taller. But Larry Bird is also taller than 6'9. He was bigger than Kevin McCale (listed at 6'10) on the court. He's taller than Kevin McCale now.

Its obvious that Magic genuinely was 6'9 when he was drafted. And is about 6'8 now.

Bird was probably 6'10 when he was drafted. And is about 6'9 now.

End of discussion
Chris said on 13/May/16
Canson - you, and many others on this site, have a great trick. You insist absolutely everyone is 2 inches shorter than they claim......

"Jordan is really 6'4....so if Magic is 3 inches taller he must really be 6'7....and Shaq is only 6'10 because he's only 3 inches taller than Magic "

They aren't all lying about their heights. Jordan is actually pretty close to 6'6 and Magic is actually 6'9.

You can't downgrade everyone's heights to make your conspiracy theories work

I realize that this site is geared more to Hollywood than sports, but as an NBA fan, I wish someone would have accurately gauged Craig Sager's height (he is currently fighting terminal cancer). Craig is the TNT sideline reporter who stands next to NBA players during every broadcast and serves as my measuring stick to how tall some of the players actually are since the NBA tends to inflate many of the player's heights. My guess is that he is between 6'2" and 6'3".

If anything Bird is closer to 6'9 than magic and he was only 6'8 and change as measured by the Olympics 204cm sounds right. and magic is about an inch and a half shorter so 6'7 is legit more like 201. Looks 2-3 inches taller than Jordan and always has
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 3/Nov/15
6ft9 is a shoes height
Canson said on 28/Oct/15
To put it plainly Chris there is no conspiracy theory. Magic was and still is shorter than Larry Bird who is 6'9. Magic is more than 5 inches taller than Kareem who is 7'2, and he is shorter than worthy and even Kurt Rambis who are 6'9 and 6'8 respectively. Let's not forget he's shorter than Michael Jordan who is 6'4-6'5 and was also measured at 6'7 by the olympics. End of the day he is 6'7.
Chris said on 23/Aug/15
Quit the conspiracy theories. Magic is legitimately huge. Even now, in his 50s he towers over NBA players like Lebron James. He's several inches taller.

Magic is an obvious 6'9 even now. He may have been even taller in his playing days.

Go on his Instagram page. Even posing with NBA players listed at 6'8 he's multiple inches taller

And why use a pic with Bird where one can't notice their full standing posture (if soemone is lower or with their legs more open)?

Here is a pic of Bird with his legs spread (making him shorter in that stance) next to Magic with his legs straight:

I still think that Bird has 2 solid inches on Magic, with Larry being 6'9.5" barefooted and Magic 6'7.5" barefooted.
