Looks taller than Clint Eastwood@Pale Rider.

Can't believe that 6ft1 description for this guy. That brings the entire cast of Law & Order down by 2in or more!
I think he was tallest guy there...

Rob, could he have been a little over this peak?
He was already well into his 50's when he was on Law & Order so I imagine he may have shed a small bit already by then.
Editor Rob: not sure he really was over 6ft 3, although of course you couldn't rule the chance he was a solid 6ft 3 range.

Noticeably taller than David Carradine and Richard Roundtree in the cheesy cult classic Q: The Winged Serpent...at the time, thought Moriarty was 6'4", Carradine 6'1" and Roundtree 6'2" or 6'3"...currently listings all make a bit more sense. I think a half inch shorter fits with Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider and he looks relatively a bit taller than 6'2.75" Liev Schreiber did next to Denzel Washington in Courage Under Fire as in the photo below.

Looked a solid 6ft3 in his prime

Do you have a photo from the mid 80s too?
[Editor Rob: unfortunately not.]

Rob can you add Q, A Return to Salem's Lot, The Hanoi Hilton, and James Dean? Not sure if Courage Under Fire is worth mentioning too, although it wasn't a lead role. 191 is fine I think. An ageing Eastwood edged him out in Pale Rider. 192 is possible but never 6'4".

He looks something between 185 and 187

Here's an interesting pic which I swear I posted a number of years ago on Michael's page but now has disappeared. (Rob did you do a massive dump of all the comments at some point?) With 6.0 Denzel.Click Here
[Editor Rob: up to a certain date had been wiped.
But it shouldn't be an issue now.]

Actually I take that back, minimum 188cm now, of not 189cm
Alex said on 18/Apr/13
I would guess a weak 6'3, maybe 191 cm in hi twenties and 189 cm aging

In episodes of "Law and Order", Moriarty (in his early fifties) is struggling to be as tall as 6'2" Richard Brooks, and does not seem to even loom in height over his other co-star Steven Hill, an actor in his 70's who wasn't quite 6' tall in the first series of "Mission Impossible" in 1966. Did Moriarty lose height by his late 40's, or was he never the 6'3" described by others?

Peak Height: 6ft3(191cm)

LAN Jiao has the nerve and the tenacity to say for me to make up my mind here. You have absolutely positive no right at all to criticize and condemn my comments when your English is very bad itself. I said that Michael Moriarty and Richard Brooks look about the same height or pretty close to it. I was just approximating here.
Not only is your English very bad but your comprehension and understanding is also very bad as well. You should say that Richard Brooks is 6'2 and yet you say that Richard Brooks and Michael Moriarty look about the same height. It looks like I am going to have to give you a free English lesson here.
You say what talk you? I don't understand your stupid gibberish at all period. You should ask what are you talking about? and not what talking you?
You should also say that Moriarty looks 6'3 with shoes. He is going to be 6'2. In 1987 in Return to the Salems he looks 6'1.5-2.0 almost in the whole appearance of that show.
I would strongly suggest that you learn to spell and to speak English first before you even begin to make disparaging remarks about other peoples comments. Your English needs to improve before you can come on here and make any kind of rebuttals. English should come first and comments should come last.

@Shaun: I agree with you. Eastwood had an inch on Moriarty in PALE RIDER back in '85. The 6'4" listing for him is BS--this guy at peak was no taller than a strong 6'2".
@Jiao The Troll: this guy was never as low as 6'1 1/2". Get over your Napoleon Complex, bozo.
LAN Jiao said on 1/Nov/11
Moriarty was listed 6'0.75 in the late 60s. The listing could have downplay abit. I do believe that he is 6'1.5 at least.

Michael Voisinet , what talking you? Richard Brooks is 6'2 yet you say moriarty is 6'4 look the same height both?? Please make up your mind here. 6'2 and 6'4 is big different..
To me moriarty had look 6'3 with shoe. He gona be 6'2. In 1987 Return to the Salems lot he look 6'1.5-2.0 almost whole apearance in that show.

Michael Moriarty is at least 6'4''tall. Richard Brooks is about the exact same height as Michael Moriarty or pretty close to it.

Eastwood edged out Moriarty slightly I thought in Pale Rider.I think Eastwood was 6'3.5" in 1985.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 15/May/11
He's nearer 6"2 now

here he is next to Christopher Walken. they look the same height. it can't be?
[Editor Rob: maybe the angle of that shot benefits walken? I would think he was taller]
Bob H. said on 14/Nov/10
In Pale Rider he appeared the same height as Clint Eastwood. I believe they 'were' both 6'3" at that time. Eastwood would have been 55 and Moriarty 44 or so. 6'3" is realistic for a younger Moriarty. 6'2" plus today. He's pushing 70.

As someone mentioned below, he always seems to slouch a bit. He looks to be slightly slouched in the photo above with Denzel Washington. On the rare occasion that he stood straight up, he looked as tall as his L&O co-star Richard Brooks, aka Paul Robinette. Most of the time he appeared a tad shorter. I think it's safe to say he's 6'3".
Steve said on 17/Oct/08
Yeah, in "A Few Good Men" is when I first noticed his height. With L&O it's hard to tell. He is TALL!

picture with 6ft denzel washington look more like 189.. in reality denzel is only 5ft11.5 that makes Michael Moriarty 6ft2.5 ~ 6ft2.75.. hes a wick 6ft3..
E. Roderick Heath said on 2/Nov/07
Actually, I just saw him in Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood and he looked over an inch shorter. He is no more than 6'3, probably 6'2.5, and that would be in his prime.
Cole said on 24/Jul/07
I met him about twelve years ago. My best estimate would put him at 6'1.5".
E. Roderick Heath said on 13/May/07
I am a big Law & Order fan, and he never looked that tall on the show because almost everyone was quite tall: Sorvino 6'3, Chris Noth 6'2, Jerry Orbach 6'1-6'2, Dann Florek 6'. Moriarty often did the Goran Visnjic thing by slouching constantly in the presence of shorter people. He was 6'4 or 6'3 and 1/2 in his prime. He is probably 6'3 or so today.
kenneth said on 26/Nov/05
he can't be that tall for sure.. he looks more like 6ft1+(186)tall in returns to salem's lot in the 80s.. now he looks more like 185cm tall in courage under fire in 1996 while standing next to denzel washington..
Mr. R said on 21/Jun/05
I am 5'11.5" Why do you ask MHouillon?
MHouillon said on 21/Jun/05
How tall are you, Mr. R ?
Mr. R said on 20/Jun/05
When he started he seemed to be 6-4. His first film was Bang the Drum Slowly and he towered over DeNiro, who seemed to be at least 5-9 if not 5-10 in 1974. Also, when he did Holocuast on TV with a young Meryl Streep, he also towered over everybody. Maybe he wasn't 6-4, but he was 6-3, and has lost an inch or so. He has had a lot of alcohol trouble, so his health may have affected his height.

If Denzi's 6'0 in that pic Mike looks like he's 6'2.5

I found this quote from 1974: "The 6-foot-1, 32-year-old Detroiter with the boyish grin and emotional mercury emerged with the sort of personal notices that keep an career in orbit". Hmmm...

I remember watching a show called Psi Factor and Michael Moriarty made several appearences on that show. Michael at the most only looked about 6'2" when comparing him to 6'3" Matt Frewer.
[Editor Rob: he may not be this 6ft 4 anymore. Certainly back in the 80's he looked quite tall...but I doubt he's lost couple inches, so maybe not as big as we imagined?]
