larry merchant, a well known boxing commentator, said many times he was shorter than listed. He was always listed 5'11" or 5'11.5". Merchant said it was a fake, because he was clearly closer to 5'9". He's never been over 5'10". this is for sure.

I have a good friend who is an ex professional boxing champion (no names mentioned) and he has met Tyson a few times. I asked my friend how tall he was and my friend said 'uhh.. About your size' and I am 5'11. He looks 5'10 in this photo with Rob but he was always billed 5'11.

Rob i don't know if you have seen this but it is an interesting video i found of Mike talking about his height Click Here and he stands in front of one of those height charts like you said and you would think his 5'11 when standing in front of it. They not very accurate?

You can check it out on youtube. Boxers and MMA fighters don't really get measured for the fights. It just seems like they put up whatever they want.

The Tyson-Biograhpher Peter Heller always names the billed heights of tysonopponents and then adds his opinion if he thinks that these are not the true numbers. Back in 1991, when Tyson was only in his early 20's, I stood right next to him New York (long story.) Anyway, I'm a definite 177cm and he was a little bit (I thought about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch at the time) taller than me - putting him at that time at around 179cm

Rob: Yeah, your Dad looks pretty tall for his height in that photo. The Tyson pic though.. First of all I think he looks shorter in the pic compared to your dad with you. If you and Tyson both were to stand facing eachother barefoot I don't think there would be more than 1"-1.5" between you. That's my guess. I have no problem seeing tyson as a 5'10 or maybe even 5'10.5 guy if it weren't for pics like those I've posted. Something is off there so I'll give him 5'9.5 for now.. And I'd might go as low as 5'9 flat before bed if it wasn't for your pic with him considering you are a legit 5'8 before bed as I understand it. Well, anyways.. Tyson is 5'10 tops based on other pictures I've seen with other fighters like tops 5'11 fedor. Somewhere between 5'9 and 5'10 seems to be where he lands in you ask me. I've noticed he often wears these white sneakers that seem to have a pretty big sole.

These days even a flat 5'11 (180cm) is not medically speaking tall for a man. Heights like 6ft and 6'1 are still tall/tallish in the younger generation you have too be 6'2 range too really look noticibly above average.

But even in the netherlands, wo are the tallest, young men are not taller than a good 6 feet. so if tyson is 5.10, than you can they thats absolutly normal for a man. Short for a Heavyweight, but normal for a normal man..

5'11.5 - 6'3 is what I would describe as 'normal tall'. 5'10 is not even big enough too be described as normal tall just a legit/strong average for a man.

George Lopez is 5'10" and look at the very beginning before Tyson comes out into the audience he is standing next to Lopez for about 20 seconds and they look virtually identical in height. You can even pause the video to see the differences which are very very minimal. In fact Tyson's shoulders look a little higher then Lopez in some angles and Lopez slightly taller in others. So for all intense purposes Tyson is 5'10". Maybe Lopez is 1/8 of an inch taller than Tyson or maybe Tyson is 5'9".89 tall but really who gives a rats ass if he is half a centimeter under 5'10' you would just say he is five ten anways. No one is going to spot such a miniscule fraction in claimed height difference. Its a little different if someone is 5'9" and claims 6'1" lol.
Case closed. Tyson was never the billed 5'11" 1/2 but definitely almost 5'10 on the mark and still looks a solid 225 pounds probably.

My morning height is 173cm, and night 172cm. 5'8" is 1.72cm. The height differencial with Tyson and myself is equivalent to Rob's.

Editor Rob he had neck surgery just before that recent event aswell for degenerative disc near neck, it is possible he lost a few mm through wear/tear over the years.

for instance, Matt Dawson is known during his days as a '5ft 10' rugby player, but on seeing him, I didn't think he was just 5ft 10 but was in the 5ft 10.5 range so I'd list him at that.

Editor Rob to people who aren't as interested in height as guys like us, they have when I show them the photo (which is part of a mockup for something else) have said 5ft 5, 5.5 commonly for the photo (based on all of these people seeing jenny being measured 5ft 8-8.25 range in the flesh, not the 5ft 8.5 sting height).

Editor Rob I wouldn't go with morning heights, although there's a few celebrities who have mentioned about being 'such and such' in the morning - in those cases I have listed them 0.5 or0.75 inch less than what they said they were in the morning.

Editor Rob I seen many of Tyson's photos from this day, in the photos he could appear taller than he actually looked - which really to me was not over 5ft 10.
but as I said in the past, maybe he got more position benefit in the photoshoot (in relation to where the photographer stands and shooting in portrait can sometimes elongate things a fraction).

I used to say I was 5'10 morning before I knew how to measure myself. I'm 5'10.25 or a little more now and 5'10 at night. I already cleared that up in the General Height section. However this is about Mike Tyson, not me. I think he's 5'9.5 in reality.

his 5'11 measurement was with shoes..common practice in boxing prior to the 2000s. Apparently it was because you would be fighting with your shoes on so your height measurement was done with shoes.

i don't think compactment affects athletes as much so i'm more open to the suggestion that he's still 5'10-5'11 while eminem was wearing lifts.

I say 5'11 max. In the picture with Lennox Lewis he seemed to be at least six inches shorter than Lewis's 6'5. Either way no matter what height he is he was still a monster in the ring. Really sorry about what happened to his daughter though.

I mean unlike caouture's fencing skills mike is better than anyone in mma in one aspect of the game. some guys still today only really know one thing well. I'm thinking mostly jiu-jitsu fighters.. and people like 'jacare' seems to get by on that. And yeah.. Fedor Emelinenko is the best.. p4p even.. unlike anderson he almost always fights people bigger and taller than him. my fave 4 that i'll support 'till the end is wanderlei, sakuraba, antonio noguiera and fedor ;) surprisingly saku and wand were eachothers nemesis in pride.. aswell as nog and fedor.. but they were the best.. and fedor still is. the only guy I can see actually beating fedor is brock.. But no one else can beat fedor exept with a lucky punch. if brock can survive the first attack from fedor and gets it to the ground with him being on top he might very well end it there. look how long fedor stayed under mark hunt.. and even hong man choi landed on top. brock I think will control him with his wrestlig and weight and hammerfist fedor 'til the ref stops it. Fedor is slick on the ground but I don't see him reverse brock from his back and I don't think he'll get the armbar. I'm hoping if they ever fight fedor ends it before it goes to the ground ;) there is no questioning that fedor is the best skilled one of the two even in defeat but brock just has the tools to beat fedor I think. Lots of excellent fighters have "average" height, Wanderlei Silva, Rashad Evans, Joe Frazier and Victor Belfort are all 5ft11, David Tua and Igor Vovchanchyn are 5ft8. Fedor Emilianenko, to me the best MMA fighter ever, is 1,82m (around 5ft11.5).
Maybe in K1 height makes more difference because of knees, but in boxing, and I can tell you with some experience, height can be a complex issue, for bad and good. Speed and weitgh makes a lot more impact.
In MMA, if the person knows how to fight on the ground it makes no difference whatsoever!!
Tyson was trained to fight boxing, and in the boxing context he owned! To argue about his chances in a fight with a MMA fighter is the same as arguing if Randy Couture would do well in a fencing match.

I stood shoulder to shoulder with him in Alfred Dunhills at Caesers palace mall- I'm 5"11 and had on flat boots- I had to look down at him- I would say he is no taller than 5"9- this was his first fight after the Holyfield incedent- My husband was 6"9 - standing behind us he said I was definetly taller- he is as wide as he is tall- I'll give him that
