I have never believed this 5 ft 11 thing (hype or genuine mistake from promoters?). I have always thought that Tyson`s true height is somewhere near 5.9/5.10. Then again, it`s not so easy to measure your own height. I believe that 5.10 could be true, but it could also be a bit less. Well, like we have all seen it really doesn`t matter. Mike used his height disadvantage into his favour, and was best boxer in the world in his prime. It really doesn`t matter how tall he is, but his own measurement 5 ft 9.5 is somewhere near I think.

Both are PHD's? That is impressive.
LuckyLuciano said on 23/Nov/06
He is huge. Zero fat. Intimidating looks but the nicest personality and friendly smile. Girls go effin' crazy for him. Super smart too. That picture was literally 12-13 hours after winning a fight in Atlantic City he is fit at probably 250lbs. 6'7" in anything but socks. Vitaly is actually well over an inch taller than Wladimir and is a true badass. I saw him kickbox a few times years ago before he switched to boxing. Loves to fight. Both are PhDs.
Viper652 said on 23/Nov/06
Wladimir Klitschko looks thinnish in that picture to me Lucky. He looks smaller there than usual.
Jason said on 22/Nov/06
Vitali's been listed at 199cm before, that's only 6'6 1/2''. I would have guessed Wlad is 196cm/6'5 1/4''.
LuckyLuciano said on 22/Nov/06
Sorry for the typos in the Burger King photo post...my cats keep fighting for my lap while I am at the computer. He is 6'4.5" at 220lbs. A fairly big guy and Wladimir dwarfs him like he was a child.
LuckyLuciano said on 22/Nov/06
Derbi you need a hug and intense therapy. Mike Tyson 5'8" in the real world in derbi's mind however eternally larger than life itself!
derbi said on 22/Nov/06

here you can watch almost all his fights. He always looks 5'10.5''- 5'11.5''
LuckyLuciano said on 22/Nov/06
I have met both Klitschkos, Vitaly is 6'8" barefoot Wladimir is a tiny shade under 6'7" barefoot. I actually have a rare picture of them with Dirk Nowitzi showing how his height is fudged (NBA-SOP) and another showing how Vitaly's hand in MUCH larger than an advertised 7' NBA center who is actually barely under 6'10". Why do you think John Salley didn't stand to greet them on Fox's BDSSP? Height = hype = money.
Glenn said on 22/Nov/06
Oh.sorry.he appeared 6-7 next to Vladimir actually.
Lmeister said on 22/Nov/06
derbi, Sportives fudge their height as much as moviestars. Especially in prosports. Taller/average height players are easier to trade/market etc...
Produce said on 22/Nov/06
glenn: you mean wladimir, but this picture shows vitali with tyson.
Glenn said on 22/Nov/06
I was at the Klitschko/Brock MSG fight.they had Klitschko at 6-6.
Jason said on 22/Nov/06
Interesting pic, Lucky. You may like to know Klitschko is actually 6'6 1/2'' bare foot.

derbi says on 21/Nov/06

''No thats stupid. Sportives don't have to lie about height...!''

The irony ... lol.
muta said on 21/Nov/06
I agree with you derbi and once again Lucky, there is no way Tyson is five eight.
derbi said on 21/Nov/06
tyson is 5'11 possibly 5'10 but I don't think so. And LuckyLuciano if 5'8 boxers get listed as 5'11 then those who are listed as 5'8 are 5'5?! No thats stupid. Sportives don't have to lie about height...!
Produce said on 20/Nov/06
lucky luciano:
Tyson looks taller than 5`8 in this picture......
Jason said on 20/Nov/06
I agree. This shrinking stuff is outta control here - especially on the wrestler pages. People use it to explain why such and such are shorter than they'd like to think.
Viper652 said on 20/Nov/06
"People do shrink when they get older."

Can we please stop this shrinking nonsense? Tyson isnt an 80 year old man.
Jason said on 19/Nov/06
Golota's 6'3'' tops. 6'4'' is his billed height.
Produce said on 17/Nov/06
if chavez would be bald-headed, he would see it clearer. 2 inches?? I stay by it: Tyson looks clearly taller. And did you see Tyson-Golota? Golota is 6`4 and Tyson NEVER lookes 8 inches shorter than him.
LuckyLuciano said on 17/Nov/06

What does Tyson have on his feet? A mere inch and a half of normal enhancement via trainers and he looks to be 5'8" to Chavez' 5'6.5" in ring slicks as noted above^^^^. Like Susan Powter used to say "Stop the Insanity!". What colour is the sky in your world produce?
Ian said on 17/Nov/06
yes 5ft 10. People do shrink when they get older. He was maybe a little taller when he was young.
Paul said on 17/Nov/06

Viper652 said on 17/Nov/06
Tyson looks 5-10 there.

What 4 inches are you kidding. Looks like 2 inches to me...
Glenn said on 16/Nov/06
REAL ignorance is laying down the law on this guy without even meeting him.
Produce said on 16/Nov/06
if tyson has shrunk, than never 2 inches. a man beeing 40 normally shrunks just a little bit , but not 2 inches. A man beein 80 years would propably shrunk 2 inches , but not in tysons age.
deepestvoice said on 16/Nov/06
Aussie Bloke, just because you seriously injure your neck doesn't mean it will shrink you. I was in a serious car crash when I was 19 that left me unable to turn my neck in one direction. Thankfully I got prayer and got healed. But I continued to grow with that injury 3+ inches during that time.
Paul said on 15/Nov/06
It dont make any sense for a famous Heavyweight boxer like tyson to confess 5'10 if really he is 5'11.5 does it? more likely to confess 6'2 (like a certain bald actor we all know ) ;-D
Paul said on 15/Nov/06
There are alot of ignorant people out there and anyone who still says tyson is 5'11.5 is one of them, drop the Hype and high hopes people, im whith lucky on this one at 5'8 or 5'9 max.
Glenn said on 15/Nov/06
Thats true.I never thought of that.maybe he was 5-11 once.now 5-9.
Aussie Bloke said on 14/Nov/06
It is quite possible that Iron Mike has in fact shrunk in the last decade, and shrunk considerably at that! Think about it, he seriously injured his knee back in '03'that would have taken an inch or 2 off his frame.................yeah, I reckon he would be around 5ft9 now!
Glenn said on 10/Nov/06
There wont be any downgrading until I meet him and study him.a foot apart.
Produce said on 9/Nov/06
i saw a foto with tyson ans patterson, who is listed as 6 F , andy Tyson was about the same height. But i remember reading that tyson once was messured as 5`8 1/2 by the police.
Viper652 said on 9/Nov/06
Im starting to beleive more and more that Tyson might be 5-9 on a good day.
LuckyLuciano said on 9/Nov/06
I would go for 5'9" in "normal" footwear and 5'10"-5'10.5" in "special" shoes. Hell I thought it was weird that he was wearing thicker soled x-trainers in the casino supplied ring....that will get you thrown out of most gyms. 5'8" in socks.
deepestvoice said on 9/Nov/06
The match right before Tyson had a legit 6 footer in the ring and Tyson wasn't close. He's not 5'll. Once again, I'll give him 5'9, but I would not be surprised if he turned out to be shorter.
5'9'' said on 9/Nov/06
If you read Arthur Mercante's book he says that Tyson was about 5'9''. That he couldn't have been 5'10''.
Produce said on 8/Nov/06
if tyson really was 5`8 than he would have been about 7 inches shorter than the average heavyweight-boxer ( okay it is possible that the other boxers height are not exactly correct either) and i dont think that that a HW , being that short , would have been so feared and so sucsesfull.
LuckyLuciano said on 8/Nov/06
I saw Tyson from 20 ft away and saw him change footwear over the course of 25 minutes. You on the other hand rely on televison, promotional media and pre-fight vignettes to gauge his height. I supply MULTIPLE photos showing Tyson as less than average height in public circumstances.....you supply obtuse examples that tangentially reference the YOUR supposed heights of others. There is no question. You are addicted to the hype.
derbi said on 8/Nov/06
LuckyLuciano, your arguments are really ridiculous. 5'8 fot tyson is just stupid... possible that he is 5'10 now but for shore not less and I think he was about 5'11 at his best!
muta said on 7/Nov/06
Mike Tyson's former trainer Kevin Rooney is 5'8" and
if you ever seen Rooney stand next to Tyson, Tyson is clearly at least 3 inches taller than Rooney. I guess Rooney is more like 5'4" or 5'5", right Lucky???
Glenn said on 7/Nov/06
Michael Jackson is 5-9.no way can they announce him at 5-11.5 and even 6ft for years and him being that weight at 5-8.theyre not going to lie by 4 inches.he is 5-11.5 in sneakes.5-10 min.
LuckyLuciano said on 7/Nov/06
He is my father's height. 5 foot 8 inches in his barefeet...everything else is just hyperbole. You purposefully can't see the forest for the trees. Ignoring reality doesn't make it any less real. Adieu.
muta said on 7/Nov/06
So Lucky, are you saying Tyson is shorter than 5'11 1/2" or are you saying Tyson is 5'8". I can deal with people saying he is 5'10" even though I strongly believe he is 5'11 1/2" but you can't be serious about 5'8"
muta said on 6/Nov/06
LuckyLuciano,Tyson didn't B.S. and he didn't sell out arenas because people thought he was five eleven and a half, but because he is the most popular boxer ever due to the fact that he was one of the most ferocious, skilled fighters that ever stepped in a boxing ring so I don't have to wake up, I've been awake my entire life.
Glenn, you are correct, there are alot of fighters smaller than me but you don't find many that fight at 175 lbs or over at five feet seven and a half in height. I should have kept my butt at 140 lbs like I was in my prime but I'm getting old.
Produce said on 6/Nov/06
I remember seeing michael jackson identifications card in the net and his height in this card was 5`11. And Michael Jackson and Tyson have the same height.
TNTinCA said on 6/Nov/06
Lucky: you sound quite bitter. Were you a former sparing partner of Tyson's? Or did you lose money betting on him when he fought Lewis?
Geez, if you want to believe he is 5'8", go right ahead. But based on evidence that I have seen and photos I have come across, I don't think he is that short.
LuckyLuciano said on 6/Nov/06
Look at the Mark's page you are wrong. Many people know Mark before he was famous because he busted many a set of balls working at the Tunnel. He is fully exposed as a serial elevator shoe wearer right down to the make and model.
Jason said on 6/Nov/06
I think Vin is 5'11''. Tyson looks 5'9 1/2'' next to him if so.
Glenn said on 5/Nov/06
Theres boxers in general smaller than you Muta.
LuckyLuciano said on 5/Nov/06
Muta time to dismantle the Tyson shrine! Five foot eight inches tall. Why are the Klitschkos so much taller than boxers listed as being near their height? The answer is they don't B.S. about it because they don't have to. It's all about hype and selling tickets and putting asses in the seats. Wake up!
LuckyLuciano said on 4/Nov/06
Give a guy velvet rope credentials and it usually goes right to their head. I saw a guy knock out two MUCH BIGGER bouncers cold at the Tunnel once and Mark didn't make a move. They actually asked him to leave with a refund without even laying a finger on him because it was obvious he had some skills. Mark had a pronounced "LITHP" back then and copped his couture from the more stylish Chazz who is a funny talented and smart guy.
muta said on 4/Nov/06
There is no way the man is five nine or five ten and definitely not shorter. Why would he be listed as 5'11 1/2" in all of his fights. I've seen him listed as 6'0" in some of his earlier fights. I asked the question once before but nobody answered me. What is the benefit for someone to lie about his height or for Tyson to lie. It will never take away from his accomplishments. I myself am a fighter, boxer/kickboxer and I am short. I am 5'7 1/2' which is very short for a fighter in the Light Heavyweight division but I wouldn't have any reason to say I'm shorter or to want people to think I am taller than what I really am, it doesn't make any sense.
Glenn said on 4/Nov/06
I remember Mark the security guy.a dick then too.
TNTinCA said on 3/Nov/06
A friend of mine met Vin in Vegas once. My friend is 6 foot and said he and Vin were eye to eye. Mind you, I can't state what Vin's footwear was. But I don't think Vin is near the 5'10" mark. Honestly think he is between 5'11" and 6 foot. Maybe 5'11 1/2" is the most likely.
LuckyLuciano said on 2/Nov/06
I remember Mark Vincent aka Vin Diesel from the Tunnel first and occasionally the Limelight where he worked along with Chazz Palminteri, he is 5'10" in shoes. Tyson is 5'8" please stop the madness!!!!
Viper652 said on 2/Nov/06
Thing is I do think Vin is closer to 5-10.
TNTinCA said on 2/Nov/06
Here is a pic of Vin Diesel and Tyson:

Now I know Vin has a tendency to exagerate his height. But if you give Vin 6 foot (which is his height on celebheights), there appears to be about 2 inches difference between the two. Which would corroborate the 5'10" height.

Produce said on 1/Nov/06
From seeing Tyson in the TV i would guess that he is 5.11 1/2 , like it is reported.I do not hink that he is far smaller, becouse I would have noticed that in all these years. I saw him standing next to Cesar Chavez ( 5`7) and Tyson looked clearly taller , would say 4 or 5 inches. I have seen him getting messured as 5`11 in tv and i once read that he was messured 1 ich taller than Sugar Ray Leonard ( 5`10). And standing next to 6`6 Kevin MC Bride , he looked clearly shorter, but not sooo much.He looked about 7 or 8 inches shorter maybe. So , I think 5`10 or 5`11 is realistic.

sf said on 30/Oct/06
boxing4life - I decided to take a look at your picture, and that just proves how much perspective can be distorted through photographs like the editors have been saying.

First - until you see a full shot, you don't know if the height chart is even accurate. I can hang a height chart and have 6 feet be where 5'6" should actually be.

Second, like Pad and Rob have pointed out, the chart could be behind him several feet, which it probably is (looks like it to me), so, of course, Tyson looks taller.

but, I'm amazed by these 5'8" sightings. I never thought Tyson was shorter than 5'10", but I'm starting to wonder.
Glenn said on 30/Oct/06
Im sorry lucky,I forgot you saw him.my mistake.most people here never met the celebs they shorten.I just hung out with, just 2 hours ago,a man that knew Tyson way back.he says 5-7,5-8.too many short sightings on this guy.more than Sly.but like Sly,theres the 5-10,5-11.5 stories.height is a true enigma.surprised this website wasnt around years ago.yeah,Im gonna try to get in free.either way Ill be there.look for me.
boxing4life said on 30/Oct/06
I've already posted a pic of Tyson standing close to a measuring chart from one of his fights in the late 80's.

Take one look at it.

anyone saying 5'8" has just been sonned, owned, pwned, pimped raped and beaten, ALL in one.
LuckyLuciano said on 29/Oct/06
Glenn I was 20 ft away from him in Las Vegas. I watched him work out with Jeff Fenech for 25 minutes at the Aladdin. He is nowhere near 5'10". I can be cocky because I saw what the real deal is. He is SHORTER than the AVERAGE man. 5'8" end of story. Are you going to see IMMORTAL at B.B. King's in July?
Glenn said on 28/Oct/06
If you never met him dont be so cocky.5-10 is realistic.
LuckyLuciano said on 27/Oct/06

derbi said on 27/Oct/06
5'8 estimations are ridiculous because he isn't a celeb who doesn't have to lie about his height. It's just about how good he's at boxing and not his height people care. And as a pro boxer he for shore got measured several times. I'd say a solid 5'10 in his best times probably 5'11
Danimal said on 27/Oct/06
He's between 5'9" and 5'10". I've heard boxing commentators state that for years during his matches.
Mikex said on 27/Oct/06
I don't understand why Tyson would have to measure himself. Surely he must have had countless medicals when they could have got an accurate reading. 5'10'' does sound reasonable though.

He is the 'tiniest guy' in that picture? So what?
That's Vitalli Klitschko in the foreground who stands near 6'8"! And Mike is a few feet behind so of course he will look tiny. Hell, almost anyone standing next to Vitali is going to look tiny.

Glenn, I agree with you that 5'11.5" in footwear is possible. Although a 1 1/2 heel is large for most male shoes.

I have to say that Tyson is in the 5’10”-5’10.5” range. At the official weigh-ins before boxing matches where they weigh the fighters and announce their stats (height, reach etc) Tyson gets quoted as 182cm. I believe it’s possible they can exaggerate a few centimetres however they are not going to get away with stretching the truth by 10cm (some of you guys are claiming he’s 5’8”).

Yea, LuckyLuciano - people DO cling to their "delusional notions" about Stars or people they idolize. They want them to be taller or shorter. If you like someone, well that HAVE to be taller!!! If you don't, well, of course they're shorter.

People in real life, and in regards to stars, always seem to be disappointed when someone is not as tall as they think, or as tall as they think they should be. Very hard to be non-biased. I never would have thought Tyson was only 5'8", but I always believe shorter sightings over taller sightings, usually, cause these people and their agents and the media, do everything to build them up and appear taller...did you hear Glenn was only 5'5"?

Kidding again, Glenn!

He was and is 5'10". Watch old footage of him. They often list him at 5'11 1/2" or 5'11". Likely that is with footwear. (Standard 1 inch heel) But no way he was 5'8". I am sorry, but 5'8" guys cannot get away with that easily, especially in the boxing arena.
When I watched the fight between Lennox and Tyson, it looked like a difference of at least half a foot. 6 inches. Which, with Lewis being 6'5", would make Tyson 5'11" at MAX. But the difference would have been much higher had Tyson been 5'8".
LuckyLuciano said on 23/Oct/06

Tyson is short, in the youtube clip provided by Frank2, it shows Tyson on stage with the 5'8 Eddie Murphy. I was surprised on how short Tyson really is. He looked the same height as Murphy at 5'8. He is 5'8 to 5'8.5max barefoot and in shoes 5'10 (probably measured himself in shoes, (usually on how height is measured in America)
LuckyLuciano said on 21/Oct/06
Picture says otherwise and Fenech is even leaning over towards Tyson...you can honestly say that there is 4 PLUS inches difference between them? C'mon yourself. I was 20 ft. away and it was more like an inch. Short fireplug of a man with a huge head. 5'8".

5'8'' - very unlikely. Mike would be in the 5'9'' range, maybe 176cm or so (175cm the shortest). My martial arts instructor met Mike a couple of times, I'll ask him how tall he thought Mike really was (probably a bit of an absurd question, but I'll ask anyway)

Tyson's like Stallone - in that difficult 5'9"-ish range which could go either way: 5'8" to be on the short side, 5'10" to be on the tall. Like Stallone, I don't think Iron Mike is a solid 5'10" since he gets all this flak for being short, although he's probably pretty close, probably 175-177cm.

Hearns is a legit 6' 1". He really brought it on with those snap hooks. I bet Tyson gets in the ring again in '07.

I think Primo Carnera was legittimately measured in USA at 6'5 3/4 (196 cm). I saw the tape of his 1935 fight with Ray Impelletiere (2.02 m) and Carnera was clearly shorter. Tyson is probably 175-176.
gabriele said on 28/Sep/06
tyson is 178,yeah.i was reading the discussion about primo carnera.well,i visited his museum in sequals(pordenone),in friuli, and i read that his uncles were 195.in a photo with his family he was taller than his two uncles.for the museum he was 204 or 205,but according to me he was 2,01 exactly.Maybe he was 197 when he was old because he began hunchbacked.for italian resources of google he was 2,05(digitare "carnera era alto").Bye

OnCapeCod is going under fake aliases now by the name 'Michael Fowler' to try and make his point valid. Nice try buddy, I'm not that stupid LOL

Hagler is 5'9".5, watch the pre-fight documentary and the fight itself with Hearns who is a legit 6 feet 1. He is NO way 7 inches taller than Hagler!
Jason said on 27/Sep/06
Well, about the only of those people I'd take seriously in this case would be your Grandfather ... but maybe he was off? Carnera was billed as 6'7'' in wrestling - and you know what that means. Virtually all the heights I can find for him on google are 6'5''-6'6'' and his official imperial height in the States (when he was older) is 6'5 3/4''. There's also a 6'5 1/4'' listing. If he were 204-205cm he would have been taller than Vitali Klitshko (6'6 1/2'' minus shoes) who was regarded as the tallest heavyweight champion in boxing history before Nikolai Valuev came along. Also, his measurements (chest, bicep, thighs, etc.) at 260lbs (the weight at which they were taken) are just too big for him to have been anything over the 6'5'' range at that weight. Then again, the measurements could have been exaggerated. But, if they exaggerated them they would have exaggerated his height too.
massimo said on 26/Sep/06
jason,i'm italian and the sons of carnera said in tv that he was 204-205.in the carnera's museum in sequals(friuli),photos and documents show that he was 204-205.my grandfather was a sicilian boxer of 1,96 and he told me that carnera was taller than 2,00.the fellow citizens of sequals(carnera's country)said that he was 2,05.1,97 is an error.he was 1,97 when he was adolescent.he was 270 pounds and had enormous hands and feet.i agree that tyson is 5'10.
Jason said on 26/Sep/06
I really do think Tyson is 5'10''. This book being mentioned can't be too reliable - Primo Carnera was only 197.5cm (6'5 3/4'', not 205cm (6'9''). And that's if you disregard the 6'5 1/4'' listing for him, which may be the correct one.

are we still harping about this video of tyson beside the height chart? Again, the camera is below his eyeline and he is a good few inches in front of the chart, therefore the height chart is misleading.

remember, in this old pic everybody here knows I am 5ft 8 exactly yet I stand a few inches in front of the ruler and have a low camera and wham bam, I'm taller than Tyson ;-)

thank you boxing4life, that picture is from the segment I was speaking of in October of 1987, I have it on videotape and Tyson was barefoot. It is so easy for any skeptic that thinks he is right to say something was set up or rigged. I still don't understand why people think there is a reason for people to lie about the man's height, it doesn't take away any of his accomplishments.
Lou said on 1/Sep/06
Hey boxing4life that picture you have of Tyson in front of that chart is not proof of him being 5'11". First off we don't know what footwear he has on. Who knows the chart could've been adjusted to make him look 5'11". They do all types of things to make you think someone is taller than what they are. If that pic showed him barefoot from head to toe measuring 5'11" then it could be used as solid evidence, but it doesn't.
Lou said on 1/Sep/06
I saw Tyson in person when he was training for his fight against Buster Mathis Jr. in 95'. At the time I was about 5'7", maybe a little over 5'7", and I was almost the same height as Tyson. I remember thinking that he was either 5'8" or 5'9", then being surprised when I saw him listed at 5'11". I would go with 5'9" as being Tyson's height, because he was clearly about a couple inches shorter than by stepfather who is 5'11".

I simply mean, because Tyson is a certain number of inches in front of the height chart and the camera is easily below his eyeline then the line of sight from lense to top of his head and then onto the chart behind isn't really a true reflection.

I boxed Mike for his fight with Mcbride and a few days for his fight with Lewis. He is every bit of 5'10. I'd say right at 5'10.5. When he fought Frans Botha a friend of mine, Friday Ahunanya who is 6'.5 boxed Mike for a month straight. He was about 2 inches taller than Mike if not less. On the whole, Boxers do not exagerate their heights like other athletes do. It is less important than folks think. I have yet to meet 1 fighter out of the thousands of pros that I know that don't give their real height within a 1/2 inch. This type of talk had me expecting Mike to be quite short when I met him. He was quite a lot larger than I expected.

I saw Evander Holyfield a few years ago at a mall near where I live. He looked around six feet, but he had shoes on too; they won't let you walk barefoot in malls.

About Tyson's comments on his height: I think what is aggravating him the most is that he is a heavyweight boxer, yet around five foot and nine inches or so. I think it is funny though because he should actually hold himself in higher esteem in an article; he has taken on guys taller than him and won, to show his skill. Height is very overrated; it sure looks good when you are walking in a mall, but there are dozens of fights I can think of in the UFC or Pride in which a shorter guy wins, and often times being not even six feet in height. Many of the fights go to the ground anyway, and in real life there are guns and blades to be an equalizer.

Many guys that I see taller than myself, they are usually lanky.

And anyway, Bruce Lee is a perfect example to sum up everything.

Viper, as I explained, Eddie wore high heels in the 80's. Watch Delirious and Raw and you'll see at least 3" heels. If he's 5'10", he was 6'1" with his shoes. If Mike is 5'10" and wore 1" shoes, BAMM, he's still 2" shorter than Eddie in that video. Does that explain it? It does for me.

Im really stumped on Tysons height. He was measured on that height board at 5-11 1/2, but Im willing to bet it was with shoes on. He measured himself and says 5-10. Kinda makes sense. Though that video with Eddie Murphy is really bizarre, as in some shots Eddie towers over Tyson. How can that be??

Editor Rob
Tyson is no more 181cm than I am 182cm

in that height chart video the line of sight from the camera has to be directly on the top of his noggin for it to be anywhere near accurate...Tyson is noticeably looking down at the camera, so the line of sight is not an accurate reflection of his height.

Here, check this pic below, note the 75, 74, 73 inch marks below green tape at top of this pick...

Full length shot of Rob - the top of my head magically appears near 5ft 11.5.

Case closed, put away your tape measures, ignore any line of sight issues and sleep easy in the knowledge that Rob is as tall as Tyson!

Eddie is taller because he wore high heels in the 80's. Watch Delirious and Raw and you'll see what I mean. We're talking 3" heels. I do know that Eddie appears about 2" shorter than Jay Leno without his heels. Eddie states he's 5'10" and Leno states he's about 6'0". I think they're both exagerating.
Glenn said on 18/Jul/06

TJ said on 17/May/06
And I'll repeat an earlier point. If Tyson is really 5'8, that would make him one hell of an amazing fighter to have kicked that much heavyweight ass in his prime. If anything it would be a reason to admire him more, not less.

Of course he may have lost some bulk now retired and not training like in the old days. I don't really understand where you are coming from though. If you peak at 17.5 stone, you may very well have been a little heavier than him, but what does that have to do with anything? Are you now the benchmark by which we determine whether someone has a small or large build?

what is a possibility is the camera angle could have made him appear taller, but since I've never seen the footage I don't know.

tyson done a photo op with frank bruno recently and I would say Tyson looked near what he 'self measured' at...of course I could be giving frank 1/2 inch too much, he might only be 6ft 2.5, but did look near enough 6ft 3...

October 16, 1987 on HBO, Mike Tyson then was the undisputed undefeated heavyweight champion and he defended his titles against Tyrell Biggs and the story on Biggs was him overcoming his drug problem. Tyson's story was about his height. People kept asking him how tall he was. In 1987 , the average male height was 5'9", the average heavyweight fighter was 6'1 3/4" and they measured Mike Tyson barefoot as he stood with his back to a measuring chart and he measured exactly 5'11 1/2" in height. I know the people that don't believe are not going to believe it and I can't change that, I'm just stating what I saw and I still have it on tape.

Thing is with fighters like lewis and klitcho is i think people are forgetting how much bigger 6,5-6,7 is agaisnt 5,10. Even like about 4 inches is a huge height advantage on somebody. People seem to look past how many actual cm that is and it's alot. They say inches but that can be alot of height when you think of it in cms. 179-178 for tyson to 195-196 for lewis thats a ridiclous amount of height over him.

if I saw this thing, I could comment on how high or low the camera is which could distort what he appears to be, also how far in front of the chart he stands...is there no way of seeing this, it would be interesting...you don't have a digital camera that can record video files do you?
Boxing Fighter said on 7/May/06
He would say he is 5ft10 because he is!
People usually don't "forget" their height, especially a short heavy weight boxing fighter.
He was just honest. I do agree, when you measure your height by yourself its usually not correct, but 5'11.5 is almost 6ft. He was feeling very short: "Everyone in my family is 6ft. What happened to me? I'm tree stump. A fire hydrant". 6ft is ok for him, this is not a half inch problem, don´t you agree?

Editor Rob

on this video the other commenter mentioned about 5ft 11.5, did they have an actual stadiometer and some guy brought it down onto his head, or did he stand beside a chart and some guy looked at it and read the number?

It was about Tyson's height, people were always asking him how tall he was. He was measured barefoot with his back to the height/measurement board and Mike Tyson was exactly 5'11.5". I don't know why he would say he is 5'10", maybe he forgot , he has had a rough life.

Vitali Klitschko is monster giant. It is very easy to look like a small dwarf near him. Everybody bellow 6ft1 is short near a guy like that. But I agree with Boxng4life, there is no "elevator" boxing shoes.
But, this is not "end of story" for you guys?
The guy IS 5ft10. Strong as hell, but 5ft10.

lol I like how when I make a point about tyson being 5'11"1/2 with 6'2" holyfield they have to say he's really 6'0". Oncapegod, boxing shoes are FLAT as hell.
OnCapeCod said on 5/May/06
BOXREC doesn't measure ANYONE! Tyson is 5'8".....look at him with Vitali Klitschko...he has monster soled sportshoes on and he is still dwarfed by the 6'8" Ukrainian.

The man is 5ft10. That article wich Tyson mesures himself is conclusive. He don`t have any reason to lie about this.
By photographs with Tyson, Hollyfield does looks like a 6ft man. Even BoxRec says he is 5ft10 now. It was 5ft11.5.

That`s it!

Holyfield looks dead on 6-0 to me. As a matter of fact I saw pictures of him with football players 6-2 Michael Irvin and 6-0 Ray Lewis a couple of years ago, and he looked even shorter then them.

"There are no 'height' classes so that form of measurement is not utilized."

Tell me, is their a 'brain' class?
TJ said on 3/May/06
You're delusional OnCapeCod. Personally, I wouldn't care if Tyson was 5'7. I just know he isn't.
Quad-4 said on 3/May/06
I think Rob put said it best, if he admits to being 5'10 then why are you fools out there saying he's 6ft tall! But there have to be roots to the initial 5'9 listings. So, I'll guess tyson's 5'9.5.
TNTinCA said on 3/May/06
The comment regarding Tyson's height never being measured is true. Weights are the defining criteria for boxing. There are no 'height' classes so that form of measurement is not utilized.
Watch some old fights of Tyson from his early career. They have them on ESPN classic. Even the commentators often state that Tyson appears closer to 5'10".
Or better yet, watch the Tyson-Lewis fight from a few years ago. Lewis absolutely dwarfs Tyson. I could easily see 6-7 inches of difference between them.
Look at this pic from the fight:

Tyson practically has to jump to reach Lewis' head.

how do you figure?
Jason said on 3/May/06
Viper, just wondering why you think Holyfield is struggling with 6'0''? Personally, I'd peg him in the 6'0 1/2''-6'1'' range.
OnCapeCod said on 2/May/06
You are just jealous of my good teeth! Mike Tyson is 5'8" tall!!!
Boxng4life said on 2/May/06
I'm NOT a tyson fan, nice one keyboard warrior, I'm just posting on this site for different heights, you're not a boxer you wouldn't know about HBO.
TJ said on 2/May/06
OnCapeCod, there is no way that Tyson is 5'8. He's nearer 5'10. Anyway, why would Tyson4life have to find someone else to idolise if it turned out Tyson really was as short as 5'8? If anything, that would make his achievements in the 80s even greater.
OnCapeCod said on 2/May/06
I am sorry Tyson4life but HBO NEVER measures anyone........he is 5'8" with 3 inches lifts he is 5'11". Find someone else to idolize.....
Boxng4life said on 1/May/06
lol, onCapeGod, yeah right. 5'8"???? where did you get this from?
hbo ALWAYS measured him at 5'11"1/2. 5'8" is being an idiot. He's not that small.
deepestvoice said on 1/May/06
I don't think Holyfield is his listed 6'2.5. He's probably closer to 6'0.5 making Tyson 5'9 or so.
OnCapeCod said on 1/May/06
5'8" Tyson fanboys......five FEET eight INCHES!
Boxng4life said on 1/May/06
is offical he's 5'11'1/2
here he is with 6'2" Holyfield. Click Here
Jason said on 30/Apr/06
There's also 6'5'' listings for Kevin McBride, so if he's below 6'6'' (which is more likely), that makes Tyson easily below 5'10'' if there's 8 inches between them.
Frank2 said on 29/Apr/06
Kevin McBride is slightly over 6'6": Click Here
He's at least eight inches taller than Tyson.
Frank2 said on 29/Apr/06
Tyson never shrank. He was always shorter. Watch the episode of Who's the Boss. He's no taller than 5'9" Tony Danza. And Danza is 5'9". I never bet on fights, but that I would put money on that one.
Boxing4life said on 29/Apr/06
lol yeah really, it's not like he's over 60 years old.
John said on 28/Apr/06
This is insanity. How the hell can you shrink that much in 10-15 years? Tyson's gotta be his 5'11 1/2 - 6 ft!!!
Viper652 said on 26/Apr/06
In reality Holyfield really is struggling with 6 feet Glen
Boxing4life said on 26/Apr/06
yes that's the photo, I thought tyson looked 5'11" in that picture
Jason said on 26/Apr/06
I could perhaps see Tyson at 5'9 1/2'', but I dunno. I still think he's 5'10''. His arms aren't very long and he's very stocky, maybe that throws some people off.
JT said on 25/Apr/06
Boxing4life, here's the photo I think you wanted to post of Tyson with 5'9" Marvin Hagler.

Glenn said on 25/Apr/06
I have a photo with Holyfield where he looks 5-11,6ft!
JT said on 25/Apr/06
OnCapeCod, I'm 6'4" and I saw Holyfield at LAX back in 1997 or 1998. He is definitely not a weak 6'1", unless he was wearing lifts.

Editor Rob, I'm starting to feel like I'm one of the few left in this world who doesn't wear lifts!
Boxing4life said on 24/Apr/06
haha 5'8" you're kidding me ....right ?
OnCapeCod said on 24/Apr/06
Tyson is 5'8"....Lewis is 6'4.5" and Holyfield is a weak 6'1". Tyson wore/wears lifted boxing shoes...he wears lifted footwear out of the ring as well.
