Why would he lie? Why not?! Been in the theatre at 5' .5" for 50 years and the only time I didn't lie, always claiming to be 5' 2", was when I was pre-cast to play Joe Namath's mother. I knew the smaller I looked the larger he would appear. After thinking it over I decided why not and made myself shorter - 4' .75". I'm sure Mischa's added inches helped his ego and with his talent - who cares?

He says he's 5'7", but he's always the shortest man in photos and he doesn't seem much taller than Sarah Jessica Parker., who's 5'2". Judging on photos, I'd guess he's 5'5", but maybe he's smaller. Why would he bother lying about his height?
Bluestocking said on 15/Jul/14
There's no way Misha is 5'6". I once met him face-to-face in New York City, and he's 5'4" at most (I'm 5'2" and he was only one or two inches taller than me.)

Saw him in Nyack, NY. 5'4" -5'5" would be more accurate.

6'2 Gene Hackman didn't look a head taller than Mikhail back in the 80s. I'd buy a hair over 5'7, and him wearing elevators next to Hackman.

My mom met him at a party back in the day, she was trying to walk through the crowd and felt someone pushing behind her, turned around a looked eye to eye with Baryshnikov. My mom is 5 4, and was not wearing heels.

Hmmm I always thought he was somewhere between 5'4" or 5'5". Incidentally I was watching an episode of Sex and the City and he was nearly as tall as Sarah Jessica Parker. I dunno what kind of foot wear she was wearing but assuming she is no bigger than 5'2" tall I doubt she was wearing 4 inch heels...

thats correct guest.we have to change everything.im 5-6.

LOL, if Mikhail is 5'5, Glenn is around the 5'6, 5'7 max. I think that tall women you encountered was right. You should have your doctor measure you to confirm my suspicion. We might have to adjust all the listed heights on here, by an inch or so.

Right - from ballet - he doesn't need to worry so much about his feet and whether he wears lifts or not. Lift-wearer...
glenn said on 3/Feb/08
retired? from ballet maybe.he works constantly.mainly plays in new york city.
sf said on 2/Feb/08
Glenn - the man's retired - who cares if he wears lifts now? I dont know if he wears lifts, but I would suspect he does. Also, the woman, again, sees the man in ballet shoes, not in street shoes, which can hide lifts. I don't know the answer, but, like 6footkate says, he did look closer to 5'5" next to SJP, which is even stranger cause you'd think he'd definitely want to look taller when being on the show. I don't know, but too much points to a lift wearer...

Glenn, because I defer to someone else's sighting, doesn't mean I dismiss yours, but I've heard over many years, that he's 5'5", and I found that dancer's site where the woman says 5'3". I'm looking at all the evidence I've seen over the years, and you have to keep that in mind when people don't just agree with you. I've been hearing/reading that he's really 5'5" or so for 20 years...

i dont agree with the several inches on top.the only thing that has me suspect is that he was in ballet shoes for that story.but its almost as if my encounters mean nothing was my problem.and the woman.another problem.but the ballet shoes is a strike against me.i think rob has him right if im wrong.i say no way 5-5. 5-6 if he had a slight sophisticated lift.he was truly 5-7.with the illusion of looking a hair over and under.but why would a ballet dancer wear lifts? wouldnt that be risky for back problems or foot problems? we or me must examine pics of him.especially with gregory hines who i saw weekly.
sf said on 1/Feb/08
Rob - you didn't let me last post go through! But, I'll forgive you and still assert no taller than 5'5", based on everything I've ever heard and read from people who have stood next to the man in BALLET shoes. Honest to God, I've always heard around 5'5". Now, if I just took everyone's word at it, I'd say he's only 5'3", based on that woman's experience. but, I'm not - I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that she was off, too.

Glenn, I'm talking about a woman who is a New York dancer/instructor who had a siting standing next to mand at the barre. Now, wait, I'm not saying you haven't seen him, etc. but wouldn't even you think that a person standing next to the man, in ballet shoes, would have a more accurate estimate? Don't you think someone like MB might not be a prime candidate for lifts? Seriously - the man has to be super vain, and just about HAS to presnt a larger than life image. You've got him beat by several inches, easily, in the photo above if you're not leaning, he's on a slight upgrade - can't be that tall...

Glenn: Agreed. 5'7". But I have to say this man has a weird body frame for 5'7" guy...do you agree? Bruckheimer frame I call it.

Hey, I'm just telling you what a New York Dance Instructor, in her blog said about standing next to the man, at the BARRE - that's that little metal rail they stand at, in ballet shoes - she says 5'3"...Glenn, until you've stood next to him in ballet shoes, I'm defaulting to the dancer....Glenn, I used profanity just for the heck of it, I didn't mean it towards anyone, man...we gotta get you less high strung. Exactly, Leonari - standing on a small hill, alone, could add 3 inches....

5'5"!!!!!

and how can i forget a 5-10 woman(6ft in heels) estimated me at 5-6 last week.2nd time this has happened only.thankfully.women of any height misjudge alot.
glenn said on 30/Jan/08
unless the man had leg lengthening surgery or strecthed himself and inch and a half with yoga,or had mega lifts in flat low cut casual shoes,i think he is 5-6.5 to 5-7.more on the 5-7.i had a partner each time agree with me he was bigger than we thought.in fact,he gave the illusion of being my height at times when talking to him, depending on the pavement.i show proof on top,and people still doubt.ok,not the greatest pic.the most this pavement would give him is an inch.a 5-5 man isnt gonna look that tall next to.i havnt seen white nights in ages, but the vinyl lp i had showed him looking at least 5-7 next to 5-10,5-11 gregory hines.it would be more obvious and look ridiculous if he were 5-5.i appreciate your words leonari.
leonari said on 30/Jan/08
Glenn: Ok done. If you say 5'7" and you are sure: 5'7" it is. But you say yourself: The man has a weird body frame for a 5'7" guy...rail thin, muscular definition when he was young... so he gives the impression of being shorter and Glenn: we all love your pics. Without them there would not even be a point to discuss the heights of these celebs but I am sure you will admit that Mikhail standing on a pavement next to you on the pic isn't the best reference. The pic is very cool don't get me wrong and I 100 % believe you when you say: No smaller than 5'6.5"

sorry guys.no lifts.im done on this page.sometimes it amazes me what i read here.im not going to go by what other people say.stallone is also 5-4 to 5-7 depending on who you ask.what i see repeatedly and study over several encounters isnt bull****.im surprised at your tone sf.looks like your acting up again.stories by other sources we dont know personally, and actual proof encounters by a pro like me,that you do know and trust is night and day.like i said,im done here.no need to go any further sf.all you had to was say you disagree.not to use profanity.i use it only when i want to act up.sounds like your upset cause your story wasnt good enough.key word-she.how many women are atroicious at telling height? from ex-girls saying im 5-6,to laura prepon saying stallone was 5-4,to a current post of redford at 5-7 when i made it official he was 5-10.5, 7 weeks ago.stood next to him? and i didnt have conversations with mikhail all month? and in the early 90 too?.he has a jerry brucheimer build of looking shorter than he actually is.i erroneuosly had jerry at 5-5 or smaller when i first saw him and he must be 5-7 at least in reality and very good chance 5-8 if you see my pic.the lowest this man can be is 5-6.5.my pics mean nothing here to some people.and never did from the get go.and he is most likely 5-7.

I have to admit: SF here has a point. What do you say Glenn: Any chance he was in lifts when you saw him?? How was his footwear? Ankles in place? Please reply if you find the time.
sf said on 29/Jan/08
Yes, I've never seen him, but read enough from other circles, such as from dancers, which is where my quote is from - people that actually see the man out of shoes, and in his ballet shoes (or whatever they are called) - people that definitely see the guy out of shoes, say he's no more than 5'5"....

Yes, everywhere you go, it officially says 5'7", but we all know that's bull****. Watch the guy in a few things, read a little, and you'll see most don't put him any taller than 5'5". Remember, Glenn, the quote I provided below was from a New York DANCER, who also stood next to him, and gave an estimate 4 inches smaller than yours....she stood next to him, too. She was standing next to him at the barre, not outside, in shoes...I've read many things, were he's just plain described as SHORT. Come on, Glenn - obvious candidate for lifts outside of the dancing scene...

at least you heard me out rob.and answered.thank you.
glenn said on 29/Jan/08
at least 5-6.5.this wasnt a gutter thing.where he was standing was a pavement rise to a building staircase.that height you have is wrong.you have to stop relying on second hand info.i met him several times in the month of january.all times he was around 5-7.maybe a hair under.met him in the early 90s too.then i thought 5-6.i was wrong.he was mentioned at 5-7 and that he is.a 5-5 man isnt gonna look that tall next to me.

[Editor Rob: I never looked at pics of this guy, but maybe he is 5ft6.5, I'll leave 5ft 6 though.]
sf said on 28/Jan/08
Rob - here's a post from one dance instructor's/blogger's site: "Incidentally, several of you have written to correct me regarding Baryshnikov's height, which I gave as just over 5'3". Confession: I guessed at that number the last time I was next to him at the barre.

[Editor Rob: yes, I should knock him down, whether he's lost any height with all that dancing from his heydey is something.]
sf said on 28/Jan/08
No way - 5'5" at best, or around there, and that's pretty well known, i thought. This is a perfect example of how things are distorted in pictures. Look at Glenn - he's CLEARLY leaning over by many inches. Baryshnikov was barely as tall, taller than Sara Jessica Parket in "Sex in the City". Give the girl heels, and she's at most 5'5"....

welllnow I have get in here....met him two times...
he si 5'5 at his best!!...come on! this guy is truly short!

This looks about right. Looks Glenn was in the street and Mikhail was on the sidewalk.
leonari said on 28/Jan/08
looks accurate...but he could be 5'6" as well. So I say between 5'6" and 5'7" thats how he looked on Sex and the city.
Glenn: whats your verdict on this fella??
