Often had very poor posture, could look nearer 5 ft 10 at times with Edward G but when stood more upright did look close to 6 ft.

Bruce looked 5'11" in "Terror by Night" and "Dressed to Kill".

Nigel Bruce and Cary Grant both are 6'1" tall. Where Sir Basil Rathbone would be 6'2" or 6'2.5".

Rathbone easily looks 6ft1½ in these photos w/h Bruce.

Rob, how does 5ft11¾ for Nigel and 6ft1¼ for Basil sound?

It's possible Nigel lost some height, but then the same could be said of Rathbone...I don't think 186 is unfathomable for him, I should consider it.

Just watched Sherlock Holmes in Washington. Not noticeably smaller than Rathbone. I could concur with a 1 inch difference, hard to tell as you rarely see the footwear. They're both around six feet, Rathbone over six but under 6' 2" though, but fairly impressive looking among the Americans in these films, however, there also appear to be a fair few 6' 3" or 6' 4" extras...

Not really. One and a half inches between Bruce and Rathbone. So, either Nigel was 5'11.5'' and Basil was 6'1'' or Nigel was 6' and Basil was 6'1.5''. I suspect the latter.

And for those who still insist that Cary Grant was 6'1" or 6'2", please watch Alfred Hitchcock's Suspicion. As Paul has already stated, Grant and Bruce are the same height. Cary was an even six feet. What made him look taller was the fact that he was thin for his height (about 165 lbs.) with broad shoulders which he got working as a tumbler/acrobat when he was a member of Bob Pender's acrobatic troupe that toured around England. In the 1950's, Grant got to be too thin and looked rather gaunt in some of his films.

I have all of the Universal Sherlock Holmes films & Bruce is indeed a consistent 1" less than Rathbone.

Yes, Bruce appears to be just slightly shorter than Ratbhone.

Also, check out Suspicion in which he co-stars with Cary Grant and appears to be approximately the same height. Grant's reported height is in the 6'0" to 6'1". range. Bruce also appeared to look eye to eye to Ronald Reagan (another 6 footer) in the movie Hong Kong.

Bruce was younger than he looked due to health problems and he passed away in his late 50s.
