I would not argue with 6'0" for Vaughan's peak height. In an episode of The Saint, Roger Moore seemed quite a bit taller than Vaughan but Moore's posture was superior to Vaughan's.

Of COURSE! Peter Vaughan's character ran 'Slade prison' in 'Porridge' - unofficially, if you get my drift! He had every type of home comfort in his cell too....

My Mum loved 'Porridge'. It was her favourite of all Ronnie Barker's comedy programmes. I simply loved the whole lot!

It comes as no surprise to me that Peter Vaughan was a six-footer.

I think even if Richard Beckinsale is 5 ft 11 as opposed to the 5ft 11 1/2 listed, there is a bit of a problem. The one time Grouty (Vaughan) comes to Beckinsale and Ronnie Barker's cell in the Porridge episode 'No Way Out', he towers above Barker much more than Beckinsale does. Vaughan is a good 1.5 inches taller than Beckinsale.... Maybe they have him in big boots or lifts. I'll have to look at the other episodes again. 1975, still at peak height I guess.

I read 6'4'' for this guy once. I then watched him on TV and thought no way. He's certainly a well built guy but I think his height was round about 6 ft in his prime.
