Rob, can people in their 20s shrink from bad habits forever like Jenny because. I tend to fall in to bad habits sometimes and I try doing good posture routine and I was wondering if I should be worry about bad habits at my almost 20s
Editor Rob
Jenny's 'bad habits' were more to do with doing a lot of craft work, which like I've said is bad for upper spine. The hours of bending spine to work on cards etc took it's toll. She has 2 other sisters in early 50's too and they've only lost 1/8th or so, whilst Jenny is nearer an inch loss.

Good to see the comments are back, I have seen a lot of new celebrities added and thankfully Carlos Alcaraz got added so thank you very much for adding him. There are still some more very well known celebrities that hasn’t been added yet but eventually it will come. Although I have seen a lot of votes coming from the newly added celebrities while the comments are off have been guessing the height lower than Rob’s listed height and the average guess is way below Rob’s billed height . I don’t know why they did that but I would’ve agreed with some of the recent listed height from Rob.

Hello Rob and good evening!

We’ve just had Darragh Ennis on The Chase and he cracked a joke about Bradley’s height, and not for the first time either. Having read two heights for Darragh, which are 5ft7 and 6ft2, I’m now inclined towards the 6ft2 for him. I’ve also come across a quotation wherein he remarked how fed up he was of
reading that he was short.

Please could you look into this and, perhaps, give the newest Chaser a nice, shiny page on your terrific website? Then we’ll have ALL the Chasers! 😄

Editor Rob
165-170 could be a solidly built 5ft 8 guy with decent muscle and reasonably low bodyfat.

@ Abdul - If Alex is big with muscle, then indeed he can afford to weigh much more than the average guy. There was a chap where I worked once who weight-trained and had won awards. He was only 5ft7 and he weighed 13 stone, or 182 pounds, and there wasn’t an ounce of fat on him!

Yes, I see what you mean, Abdul.

You sure that guy was not taking illegal supplements to get to that size?

I'd say its unusual to weigh 182 at 5ft7 with no body fat without some type of unnatural assistance. Most men at 5ft7 who workout with under 10 percent body weigh more like 160.

Or maybe he was just genetically gifted?

MattDubz said on 16/Oct/22
@Jdubbz

It really comes down to body composition. BMI also breaks down for really tall people like you, no one's going to look at a 6'7 240lbs and think of them as overweight, even outside of fat countries like America. However, if you don't have much muscle and are closer to average height then it's a decent indicator of where you'd want to be. I'm 6'0 and when I was 190lbs (almost 26BMI) a couple years back I was definitely a little overweight since I basically had no muscle. Now, I'm only 5lbs lighter than that but still considered just slightly overweight by BMI. Yet, I can see my abs, wear size 32 slim pants, and can do 20 pull-ups since I actually built up some lean mass.
Jdubbz said on 16/Oct/22
@Alex: BMI is pretty useless for muscular people, but also for very tall and very short people. I have no idea why the creator of BMI chose a coefficient of 2 when relating height to weight. It’s not like humans are 2d creatures that only scale in height and width. The formula doesn’t even take into account the third dimension, depth. I’ve never been a fan of it for that reason alone.

@ Rob Thanks for the reply!

So you're essentially 5'8 1/2 on your right leg and 5'8 3/8 on your left leg. Both one leg measurements are taller than a proper measurement.

I just re-measured and in contrast mine look like this. (all bedtime heights, no strenuous activity)

6'1 1/4 - both heels on ground
6'1 3/4 - technically both legs on ground but heel on short leg I have to raise to feel like I'm standing normally and not sideways.

6'2 1/8 left leg - actual one legged measurement
6'0 15/16 right leg - actual one legged measurement. Literally a hair below 6'1

There's definitely some discrepancy going on. I've been flipping back and forth on my height claim in comments between 6'1.5 and 6'2; I'm just going to go with a strong 6'1.5 and I'd likely be the same height as most 6'2 guys listed on here.

Thanks again for the reply and the measurements. :) I knew something funny was going on.
Editor Rob
At the time I was doing it (before breakfast) I got just under 5ft 9 and just over 5ft 9.

If you don't have good balance, you might find measuring on one leg tricky!

I think the difference is a solid 8 inch one.

The BMI makes a somewhat rough calculation, but it can be useful for a health professional to evaluate a person who does not practice physical activity and has an average diet.
When I go to the nutritionist she considers my percentage of fat and muscle mass, and then evaluates the weight, and the BMI she showed me a few times that I had gained weight just to warn me.

Dear miss, I don’t think it would be necessary if Alex chose to lose weight, I think his body type is rather closer to by very professional. I know weighting 240 pounds (108-KG) is a lot, but he is very muscular and tall too. So I don’t think he should, or at least I would get down to 99-101 KG if it’s necessary, or about 220-230 pounds. If I measured myself after 9 hours of being awake and measured at 172.5 cm. Would it be negligent of me to claim 5'8? If I were a celebrity, what would you put me at? 5'7 and 3 quarters or 5'8?

Hey Rob, so this morning as soon as I woke up, I got up and measured my height and marked it on the wall. After I went back to bed and laid down for 30 mins, and got up after to measure my height to which it was 2mm higher. (I even confirmed by measuring 3 times so was accurate) Is this possibly because upon waking up, your body is still in that 'waking up' phase so it's difficult to get the best possible posture?
Editor Rob
Maybe you hadn't quite hit the highest morning height and that 30 minutes extra helped.

Hi Rob!

Thank you for your kind wishes. I’m definitely feeling a lot better now, and my 👃 has ceased running like the clappers. I must have worked my way through nearly two toilet rolls in no time. I had a slight temperature and the best place to be was in bed. Last night I was well enough to watch and enjoy The Terminator, but beforehand, I was nodding off in most things I tried to watch.

In the early hours of the morning, I realised that my TV aerial is broken, so I now need a new one. I’ll only be able to watch DVDs until the aerial arrives, but I do have plenty of choice. That must be down to one of my naughty kittens, probably one of the boisterous, biting boys!

Rob if you have time to answer I have a question for you. Probably don't get it too often.

If you stand on one leg for a measurement do you get roughly the same height on each leg? With the exact same posture and stretching I stand at 6'1-3/4 on my left leg and 6'0-3/4 on my right leg. That's a 1 inch difference which I don't think is normal, or is it?

I only ask because I'm not sure if everyone has a dominant leg that measures taller by that much, or if I have a fairly significant leg-length discrepancy. If I do it's kind of cool, because I can noticeably change my height whenever I want to by an inch. I do feel sideways trying to stand with both heels flat on the ground....
Editor Rob
Leg-length discrepancy could effect what you get, but that's such a big difference.

I tested mine again and found it's about 1/4 taller on left and nearly 3/8th on right compared to the normal measurement just before...

@ Gary Barbosa

I first hand got an experiment of how a sleepless night affects height recently. I’m 182.5 in the morning which is just above 181 most of the day and 180.8 at night lowest possible. I measured 180.8 at night and then laid in bed tossing and turning for 3 hours before I had to get up to pack things for a move. Anyways the next morning I got a second to measure my height and I was 181 flat, and then later in the day went all the way down to 180.5, which I NEVER get to. So my thought is that you lose about 1/3rd of what you lose on a normal day during the second day of a 48 hour awake time. If you lose 15mm on average in 24 hours like I do you I suspect you’ll lose 20mm over 48 hours. I don’t know if you can shrink any more and honestly it wouldn’t be healthy to find out. 48 hours awake ends up in migraines and emotional craziness. I hate that I had to do 48 hour days often due to OCD in college about essays and math proofs.

Also Rob I rated you 5’8.375 only because while I know you measure yourself very accurately I think early afternoon measurement is the most valid one. You sell yourself short I think

Here he is in front of a height chart from the last season (he has stood in front of them a fair few times throughout the show): Click Here Also, with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: Click Here

I wonder if I am paying more attention to other things than to them. I have female colleagues at work but I don't feel huge interest nor desperation.

I take back what I said about trying dating when I'm older. Maybe it was a "joke". In general, I'm not looking for romance right now but I need to have a social life before I can focus on romance. I don't take back everything I say in my posts and of course I want to be taken seriously.

Last week, I couldn’t help but notice that my cats Cordercelia and Melazier were transfixed by something in one of our trees. It was a grey squirrel, and his tail was spinning round and round so quickly that, if I’d been standing nearby, I swear I’d have felt a breeze!

I’ve seen him in helicopter mode twice since, but as today it was raining, he was seeking shelter in the tree.

Hgt181 - People who walk their dogs without leads are extremely irresponsible, especially if the dog has been known to be unpredictable.

There aren’t so many instances of dogs walking loose round our area anymore, but there used to be. Some owners set their dogs free from the restrictions of a leash in parks. I’ve been bitten three times, but two of those instances were due to the fact that I followed dogs around as a three-year-old, and was bitten twice in one day on Brighton beach. Then I changed to being a cat person!

I still like dogs though. I’m fond of all animals.

Thank you
Editor Rob
I think if he were still somewhat active and had done basic stretches for his upper body, he may have been 5ft 8 today, rather than struggling to hit 5ft 7.

However he does have Psoriatic Arthritis, which has taken a toll on some joints, I notice with his knees he can't straighten them fully so has lost a bit of height there too.

His actual bone health is very good for his age...I make sure he gets a proper dinner every night and that he takes a vitamin supplement.

Thank you.
You think that at 86, if he wouldn’t have the psoriatic arthritis then he would have been a strong 5’8? Like 174?

Both of these measurements were in the afternoon but in a different day and I was wondering if height scales used at the gym are accurate. Keep in mind that the height scale used for measuring people’s heights in the gym I go to is accurate and I was also wondering if my height at the gym is my true height?
Editor Rob
Whilst time of day could be a cause for people getting say 1/4 to 1/2 inch differences, especially if measuring at 9am then later in the day, 3/4 inch is quite a big difference.

I would try to do an at home measurement with a tape measure against the wall, using an aerosol can or hardback book to see what figure you get.

Hi again Rob!

I was on the phone to Jim to tell him about the boxer dog when I went into the kitchen and saw a big brown thing through the cat flap, and I screamed. Yes, he came back, and now I can’t find my precious white cat, Erramius. I’m very worried, and hope she shows up soon.

Jim reckons he wants to make friends because he hears me talking to and singing to my animals. I don’t think he’s treated properly, as I can hear him whimpering and being sworn at.

It’s still scary to see such a big interloper. I’ve only seen one other dog in my garden and that was when I was 11. He was harmless, but I still bunked off school to make sure he didn’t harm my childhood cat, Sooty.

I hope he doesn’t make a habit of this. Jim says boxers are normally nice dogs, and very intelligent, so he’s appeared for some affection. However, it’s too risky with all my cats, as he’s not exactly loved. 😢

Based on that I claim 6 ft and three quarters because of my height 5 hours out of bed which is 184.9cm.

Two inches is noticeable. I’m 182, and I have a friend who’s weak 6 ft 2, 187 cm. It’s very noticeable, my eye level is below his nose, so I have to look up to his eye level, physically he looks longer, his shoulders is noticeably higher than mine which makes it even more noticeable. Proportionally he looks noticeably different.

However 2 inches isn’t drastically different like what Bobby said. I feel once a guy is taller than you by 2.5-3 inches it starts to become more “towering” I should say? Around 3-4inches is entering into the towering range where a guy will look much taller than you.

Rob, how tall was Elsa Hosk in those heels? Would she be noticeably taller than a 6'0 guy?

They would put her towards 6ft 1, so a 6ft guy in shoes would look pretty much identical.

Genetics, but may depend on other things such as enough sleep, diet etc.
not genetics per say.

@James B 172cm

I think two inches can make a certain difference. The difference between a 5'8 and 5'10 guy will be noticeable, even if it isn't a drastic difference.

Your eye level goes up by two inches, for starters, your limbs are longer, and your shoulder level is higher. A 5'10 guy proportionally looks taller compared to a 5'8 guy. A 5'8 guy couldn't really get mistaken for 5'10 the same way that a 5'10 guy might be mistaken for 6ft.

@ Blanc - Yes, my Grandmother had a full life with two marriages. She had a weak heart yet still insisted on cleaning her house every day, like many German women.

She died of a heart attack at 73. She looked much younger, and her neighbours were surprised to hear how old she was, let alone that she’d passed on.

@ Abdul - I turned myself into a mesomorph through much walking. I’d say I’m a cross between an ectomorph and a mesomorph now, through I still have a great deal of muscle.

Good luck with your fitness programme. You’ll feel much better when you see the results, and you WILL look taller, of course! 😄👌🏼

@georgett i believe if 174 is under nose he would be around 192 on average, but yeah it depends on proportions. Though i think hes at least 190.

@Abdul-177DK
You're welcome 👍
I'm not trolling btw. I have no idea why I said that. We do agree on some stuff. Like @Blanc said I don't wanna rationalize.

Hi Rob,
Do you think over 5.5 inches extra actual height may be possible from either of these shoes please? Thanks

I feel both will give 5 to 5.25 range of actual height.

Hey Rob. Quick question. I am new this height thing. So I usually measure 173.25 cm in thr morning and between 171.5 at night at my worst. Usually around 171.7-171.8. Is it fine to claim 5'7 3/4 or 172 cm?
Editor Rob
Yeah I'd go with 172cm.

@Hght181 nah man, we didn't. Thanks, cheers👍

@Miss Sandy Cowell Thank you! That's interesting trivia, must have been quite a life.

Rob is fhere a big difference to how a 5ft8 and 5ft10 man will look in terms of there proportions/how aesthetic there bodies will look naturally? I am guessing 2 inches is not a significant enough of a difference.
Editor Rob
Proportions, head size, shoulder height and clothing all have a role to play.

yes, my comment may have sounded a bit sarcastic but I didn't mean it in that way.

Hey, Rob! I'm 182 cm tall (hold on around that mark for the first part of a day and drop to around a few mms above 181 in the evening). I'm happy with my height, but also very height aware. Do you think that with sneakers that add around 3 cms and with my 88 kgs I give off an impression of a tall guy? Also, do you know how tall Ben Schneider of Lord Huron could be? Thanks!
Editor Rob
If you have good posture, not a low eyelevel or long head, you might manage to give the pretence of a 6 footer to others.
I am not sure on Ben, wasn't aware of him till now.

Abdul - I can’t think of any woman whatsoever who would weigh herself AFTER eating, but measuring makes no difference at all!

😂😂🍔⚖️❌📏✔️

I weigh 188 pounds pre breakfast. So I’m still overweight despite that I’m mesomorph by genetical reasons. But I am in the process of losing weight. My bmi is high, it’s at 27. My weight doesn’t suit my height. I gotta be slimmer to look taller too.
Bobby said on 22/Sep/22
@Hght181

It wasn't a misunderstanding. I just think it's weird for you to write about how Rob is not old after his birthday. I can't imagine someone telling me, "Hey, you're still young!" after my birthday. Gee, thanks, I guess?

It's inappropriate. I hope you understand that.

Rob when my brother is in shoes 174 cm comes under his nose
How tall should a girl be so in let’s say 5 inch heels would reach his height ? I believe he might be close to 190 cm in shoes
Editor Rob
If by 5 inch you mean gives near 4 inches of actual height then she has to be a good 5ft 10.5 to match him if he can be almost 190cm in shoes.
