In 'Lost in America (1985)',he looked a solid 3 inches over Julie Hagerty(listed 5'8"),so that would make him 5'11".Not quite a solid flat 6footer, though back then a solid 5'11". Now at age 74 he's most likely 5'10.5". Not bad height for almost 75.

Even funnier is how his older brother, the late Bob Einstein (Funkhouser from Curb your Enthusiasm), was 6'4"! Genetics can be tricky for siblings.

"By that time he must have had some height loss, but again I believe that he still measured at at least 5'10.25 when those movies were made."

Not everyone loses height

At peak he could’ve been a closer to 5’11” guy and still potentially can clear the 5’10” mark.

Albert may have only lost 1/4-1/3rd inch at this point.

Rob, now that Brooks is 72 what's the shortest that you would estimate him at?
Editor Rob
Can still look 5ft 10

the funny thing is frank2 thought he was closer to 5'9.

Rob I really do believe that Brooks needs an upgrade to 5'10.5 at the very least. Brooks has never looked like he would measure anything below the height that you currently have him listed at (5'10.25), even in the movies Drive and This Is 40 which he starred in when he was closing in on sixty-five. By that time he must have had some height loss, but again I believe that he still measured at at least 5'10.25 when those movies were made. He definitely doesn't look shorter than Bryan Cranston who probably still measured at around 179cm when Drive was released (Cranston hadn't turned sixty yet), and he even seems to edge him out in some of these photos ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ). He even holds up quite well with Ron Perlman who you've listed on this site as being 5'11.25 ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ). Alongside Paul Rudd (5'9), his costar from This Is 40 he appears to be the pretty close to the full 5'11 ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ). My final piece of evidence comes from a clip from the 1981 comedy Modern Romance which Brooks directed, wrote and starred in ( Click Here go to the 2:20 mark). The salesperson guesses Brooks' character to be "about 5'11" and he replies saying "I'm six feet.". Brooks is aware that he is in the weak 5'11 range and he's making a little joke out of it in the script that he wrote by having his character claim six feet since that's the height that most guys his height would claim. This is an incredibly honest claim coming from a height conscious guy who isn't insecure about his own height and is even comfortable enough to make a little joke out of it. He's probably worked out throughout his life in order to maintain his posture and nowadays I can't really see him measuring too much below the height that you have him listed as. So Rob, I am proposing that you give Brooks a peak listing of 5'10.75 and a current listing of 5'10.25. Or if it's too much trouble to give him both a current and peak height I think that he should be given 5'10.5 at the very least. He deserves it. Please respond Rob, your judgement is best.

It's not unreasonable to say he was 179, he could look that.

Rob, could this be his peak?
Editor Rob
He could pull off looking taller at times.

Claiming 6ft2?
Sam said on 14/Nov/15
Yeah I remember him claiming 6'2" in EW, I felt like he must have been pulling their leg even at that time.
Arch Stanton said on 9/Apr/15
Could pass for 5'11-6 ft in Defending your life.

In the film this is 40 he was almost 2 inches taller than 5'10" paul rudd. I'd say 5'11 with shoes...

Looks 5'10.25 now but could defenetly have shiped a good cm and was near 5'11 peak

When the movie "The Scout" came out in 1994, I remember an article in "Entertainment Weekly" which talked about Brooks saying he was 6'2", and the reason the film's first choice to star, Keanu Reeves, was not hired was because he was two inches shorter than him; so they went with 6'2" Brendan Fraser instead. A week or so later, somebody wrote in saying WTF- Fraser towers over him in the movie!- what is he, like 5'9"?? LOL I wonder though if Brooks, with his sense of humor, was just messin with people??
Editor Rob
he does have that kind of 'is this serious' type of humour at times.

I'd have guessed below 5ft10 watching Broadcast News. William Hurt looked 5in taller than him

Rob, please add his movies as director (besides Defending Your Life): Real Life, Modern Romance, Lost in America and Mother, as well as This is 40.
Sam said on 18/Sep/14
In order to convince the director of Drive he was right for the part, he unexpectedly picked up the director by the collar and slammed him against the wall, lucky Refn was ok with it.

I'm guessing Albert Brooks is a bigger name in the States than in Wales or Scotland...he's not a super-star but is well known if you're a comedy film fan. His characters in Taxi Driver & Drive are polar opposites, he's also a pretty talented actor. In the making of Saturday Night Live book, they talked about how it was originally going to be an Albert Brooks variety show and early cast members and writers claim he's the funniest man they've ever seen.

See that's proof you can have seen thousands of movies and still be shady in your knowledge of certain actors. There's still a lot of actors I recognize but don't know the names of! The more films you see the more you recognize faces and are eventually able to link them and put a name to the face. I should have seen Lost in America and Defending Your Life especially but I haven't yet!
Arch Stanton said on 15/Sep/14
Ah yeah this is the guy from Drive. Better watch your eyes around this guy :-) Honestly I wasn't too familiar with the name for some reason but have seen a few of his films.
SaveUsY2J said on 15/Sep/14
I thought he looked 5'9" max in Drive. At times he could look almost two inches shorter than Bryan Cranston.
Sam said on 15/Sep/14
Yes! Thanks!!! Good listing too, at peak he could for sure be a strong 5'10" guy, compared to other actors in Taxi Driver, Lost in America, Broadcast News and Defending Your Life. Even now that he's older in Drive w/ Ryan Gosling & This is 40 w/ Paul Rudd he still gives a 5'10" range impression.
Arch Stanton said on 15/Sep/14
He was that annoying geeky worker of De Niro's love interest in Taxi Driver wasn't he?
