I'm no Obama fan, but the point you bring up doesn't really speak against his height. Most girls have their growth spurts earlier than boys - usually between 11 and 13. This is why you always see those funny middle school dances with tall girls and short boys. Then in late middle school through high school, the boys catch up and surpass the girls. Obama's eldest daughter could easily have hit her growth spurt (and hence most of her adult height) at 12.
