Rob, I'm sorry to ask you again on this topic but I still think he could be taller than this. He appears to have a solid inch, possibly 1.25 on you in the first picture, the best one for comparison I think, which would make him 5-9.25 - 5-9.5 when you are 5-8.25 (very possible) there.
You mentioned he looked a solid 5-9 to you.
Isn't it possible that you underestimated him slightly because you thought you were a flat 5-8 at that time?

Rob, at these conventions you go to - this one for instance, do you have to pay for the photos taken?
[Editor Rob: yes. You could ask the celebrity when they are wandering about or quiet or leaving the event to get one free, I know a few who do that. I've done it a few times myself, but I prefer the professional shots where I can see my friends get one too and also it's supporting these conventions aswell by paying for the photo opportunities. They are a lot cheaper than the American equivalent.
The most I have paid was £25 but that was for John Hurt who was at the London Film Con, but that's because he is pretty much rare and unlikely to do another event in the near future...] Anonymous says on 14/Aug/08

Have to say that I agree with people who have given his height to be around 5 foot seven. My niece (who was sixteen at the time) had her picture taken with him and I was standing right beside him. Now I'm only five three and she's five one and he certainly didn't tower over us. I have to add that he was simply lovely, very polite to everyone and even chatted to my neice when the film had to be changed in the camera during her shoot. There is an excellent shot of James standing next to John Barrowman in the first episode from season 2 of Torchwood. John Barrowman is listed at 6ft and James was around 3" shorter but John had chunkier footwear. 5'9 - 5'9.5 looks right if Barrowman is 6ft and he definately looks around this mark. He isn't a kind of guy who has brad pitt posture. To be honest, I saw him a few times over weekend and wouldn't give him anything over 5ft 9, he had on about 1.25 trainers, same as me, can give off an impression of a 5ft 8 guy, but I think that is with poorer posture. Fair play to this guy though, he spent 1.5 hours on sat and sun doing 500 photos each day with people, queue was a freaking mile long. In the past he's done these type of shoots at american conventions sitting on a chair, but this time was stood up...one honey in front of me in the queue on saturday had paid for 7 shots with this guy (that's like 250 bux!).
