Federer is 6' max, maybe 184 cm pushing it, Nadal 5'11 range definitively
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your making such claims then prove it with photos.

I watch tennis regularly and I am dead certain that Federer is a solid 6ft1/186cm and Nadal is strong 6ft0/184cm.

Saw Federer and Nadal practicing at Indian Wells this year, and stood next to both of them at different occasions. I'm a shade over 6 foot 1 (186 cm) and I would say that I was comfortably taller than Nadal and same height as Federer. Nadal is not 6 foot 1 by my estimation but more like 6 to maybe 6 foot and a quarter inch at best. Federer is the same height he is listed at.

This is correct. Nadal looks 2 cm shorter than Roger most of the time and also Federer is close in height with Roddick.

you are not saying anything...
Verdasco is next to del Potro who is 1.98...Verdaco looks 10 cm shorter...which fix...anyway...Verdasco will never be shorter than Federer..that is clear
so like i said...Verdasco 1.88 Federer 1.86

That is a terrible picture to judge height from, Verdasco looks like he is closer to the camera, solderling is about 6'4 the guy on the far right, which means hes taller than everyone apart from del potro but it doesnt appear like it in that photo, its pretty obvious this photo is flawed for height judging purposes.

Guys, a serious question.

Roger's 186cm is based on what? ATP
lists him at 185cm.

To be honest I think many tennis players
are shorter than their ATP height.

I think Federer might be 183-184cm.
186-187cm in shoes.

Nadal 182-183cm.
Roddick also 183-184cm

Obviously a super agile 6'1". Since the Sampras days this seems like the ideal height for tennis at least for the modern game.

Nadal is 6' flat MAX in my opinion. Actually, many tennis heights listings seem blatantly suspicious to me, maybe I'll have to change my opinions drastcally.
Someone mentions agassi being listed 1.83(reality 1.78), I would also add Sampras who i remember listed at 5'11.5 in the 90's(probably his real height), then he suddenly 'grew' to 6ft1.

Roger has always been listed as 6'1- 185 cm, however his official website has him at 186 cm, its the same really, 186 cm just means he is 6'1 1/2, He has always been listed 6'1 though the same has Rafael Nadal.

I think the difference between Federer and Nadal is more than just 'very slight'; it's noticeable.
todd said on 1/Jul/09
Most of the time when you see Federer next to Nadal he appears to be very slightly taller. I think that Federer is a shade more than 6 ft 1 and Nadal is a shade less than 6 ft 1. Overall they do not have any advantage over each other in terms of leverage since there height difference is so little. I agree that some of the heights on the ATP website are way off, like for example listing Hewitt at 5 ft 11 is ridiculous. But most of them are reasonably accurate and it is safe to say that both Federer and Nadal are around 6 ft 1.
Tom said on 1/Jul/09

Roddick is 6'1 max. He is no 6'2. Roddick
does have a more full body which gives
the impression that he is bigger.

Gasquet is 6 foot. Tsonga is slightly
over 6'1.

Andre Agassi was listed as 183 cm for years.
So don't tell me that ATP heights are correct.
Agassi is 5'10-5'11.

Djokovic who is 186-187 cm. Has an inch on Federer.

Shoe inserts only give a few mm max. An inch extra
is crazy.

Does anybody seriously comprehend how much a tennis player's balance and whole game and movement would be affected if they even wore the slighest of heels? LOL. Tennis players are listed exactly what they are, there is no way they are over a cm out. Federer is 186cm, Nadal 185cm, believe it.
Doug said on 29/Jun/09

Federer is a pro athlete who has regular medicals, drug tests etc. His OFFICIAL stats shown on TV during tournaments are also verfied by the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) on their own website Click Here I play tennis also and, whilst I don't really know what an "insert" is, I assume if you are talking about some sort of wedge in the shoe to be taller, then you are in real danger of hurting your ankles. No tennis player, let alone a pro, would do this. To be frank, debating the height of most pro athletes is a bit of a waste of time.
Roberto2000 said on 12/Jun/09

apo said on 4/Jun/09
federer is at least 6'1. Anyone who played tennis knows that the idea of any insert is absurd. Tennis shoes must have a very firm grip of the court and they should have max. contact to the ground otherwise the player can very easily roll his ankles. This is especially true for a running guy like Nadal.

If Federer was an actor or some other kind of celebrity he could probably get away with calling himself 6'3", that's how much actors lie about their height and how much tennis players are honest about their heights. Fed says he's 6'1" but he's definitely a little higher than that, he's a little bit taller than Nadal. If you see pics of him with other celebrities, he makes them look way shorter than what they say they are.

The height difference between federer and nadal would't larger than 1cm, actually they are at the same height, both 6'1. So you see federer is taller sometimes, while nadal maybe taller in other occasion"

Listen dude, it's impossible for a human eye to notice that kind of a difference(1cm-1.5cm). The reason why Federer looks taller than Nadal is coz Federer is 185cm and Nadal 183 or 182. 2-3cm is noticiable difference. 1cm could be only detected by an expert like glenn or Rob.

Anonymous said on 24/Feb/09
I can hardly see Nadal being as tall as Federer, he always looks at least 2 cms shorter. At times he may look closer, but that's because he puts insoles in his shoes to protect his knees. I'm pretty sure Fed is one of the very few atp players to have his correct height on his profile. Nadal may be 6'0" (he was listed as 5'11" at 18 but he might have grown a bit), not his listed 6'1". Roddick sometimes looks the 6'2" he gets listed, but in some pics he looks shorter than Federer and a lot of people that met him describe him as 6'0"/6'1". Personally I always saw him as a tall guy, but I've seen only once live and I wasn't very close to judge. Hewitt is listed at 5'11" but he gets towered by Federer and many other players most of the time, I think he's at most 5'10". Djokovic is listed at 6'2", he looks marginally taller than Federer, maybe 6'1.5 is more accurate, but probably they rounded it up. I seem to remember Murray listed at 6'2" one year ago or so, probably he's not the full 6'3" but nothing less than 6'2". Gasquet was listed as 5'11" until two or three years ago, he got pro very young so he might have grown a little since he's profile has been created but sure isn't the full 6'1" and probably not even a full 6'0", met him personally a lot of time, he's clearly shorter than me (6'1.25") and also clearly shorter than Nadal. Tsonga he's listed at 6'2", I can hardly see him being anything below that, I always thought he was at least 6'3", huge guy. Verdasco listed as 6'2" is one of the silliest things ever, to me he looks not even a full 6'0", clearly shorter than Feliciano Lopez and clearly shorter than Tsonga when they met in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. James Blake is listed at 6'1", he looks 5'11" to me. Fish is listed at 6'2", I may be wrong but I seem to remember him listed at 6'0" in 2003. Almagro, listed at 6'0" isn't any taller than 5'10". Gulbis is listed at 6'3", he clearly looks shorter than Djokovic, he's probably as tall as Nadal or just a fraction over it. Finally, Donald Young listed at 6'0" isn't anywhere close to this, at the very most he could be 5'9.5" but I wouldn't be surprised if he's even shorter.

Nadal looked taller than Federer on the podium at the 2009 Oz Open ceremony, but there were many times Roger had more height. I'd say he's around 186 cm while Nadal 185 and Roddick 187. Sampras was a slouch so some of his claimed 6'1 height didn't seem to be there.

Naaaah, Murray looks close enough to his billed height of 6'3. The most I'd take of is half an inch. That would make Murray 6'2.5". Now Nadal is definately 6 feet tall. Nothing more. I remember him changing his shoes during Wimbledon. While being filmed we saw him putting insoles in his shoes. Those insoles are about a half inch in thickness.

OK..what gets to me is the fact that Hewitt is listed as 5'11. Federer has 3 to 3.5 inches on Hewitt in the snap below. And Roddick who's listed as 6'2, looks about the same height as federer who's 6'1. I can see that Roddick's eye level is about an inch above Federer's, but since federer has a more longer head, it seems he's neck in neck with Roddick. Kinda makes up for that 1-inch loss. Click Here

I stand unmoved on my view. During a brief time-out for break, Nadal was clearly being filmed while adjusting the insoles in his shoes. Like I said, Nadal is anywhere from 6 to 6'0.5" feet tall. Those insoles are just thick enough to close the height gap between him and Federer, which is why he seems as tall as Federer most of the time.
@ace1: Dude, Roddick is clearly an inch taller than Federer. He's 6'2.

Yesterday's match was by far the BEST showdown between Nadal and Fed. I would say Nadal is 6'0 1/2 while Federer is 6'1. Only cuz I've seen Nadal use insoles in his shoes, while Federer doesn't. Those insoles are just thick enough to close the gap between the 2 of em. That'z why the height difference between them seems non-existent.

@ Hans: Definately agreeable dude. Federer is a solid 6'1. Nadal is probably around 6'0.5! Click Here You can see Federer's got about half an inch on Nadal. And neither seems to be bent or tilted in this photo, which is why I chose this particular pic.

Federer is definetely taller than Nadal, i think Federer is 6'1,25 and Nadal 6'0,5

Those pictures from "anonymous" prove that Federer is 6'1 SOLID! Hewitt is 5'10 barefoot, probably 5'11 with shoes. He has short limbs to be considered 5'11 which is an inch less than 6 feet. Roger looks like he's got a good 3 inches on him, not mention his head size...HUGE!

i met james blake and to me he looks 5'11, at MOST 6'0. but not the 6'1 he's billed at. i've seen pictures of these two together and federer looks to be taller by an inch. i'll say that federer is 6'0.5.

You are forgetting one thing...Courier is 6ft not 6'1. Nadal is the same height as Courier..a hard 6ft..federer is about 5'11.5..I know some of you are going to be shocked at this, but its true.
OutBenchThis said on 20/Jan/08
Rubbish internet_hey! IF you took notice of the various angles available you would have seen Federer at equal height to Courier at some points aswell during the post match. The only time Federer looked taller was from the above angle shot. It's well known that Courier has one of the worst postures around so I still stand by my 184 cm observation. Ofcourse none of us have satisfactory evidence to suggest otherwise, unless I or another poster on here was photographed measuring a celebrity in the morning, midday and late night and was able to take an average from that, which is unlikely to happen, the next best thing is to rely on photographic evidence (usually from Glenn) and his or anothers anecdotal evidence and specualte from there. I say 184 cm, you say 186 cm.
internet_hey said on 19/Jan/08
Federer just won his match against Janko Tipsarevic in a match that went for over 4 hours. In the postmatch interview with Jim Courier,Federer is clearly taller than Courier by at least 0.5" and up to a full 1" when he straightened up. Rob's listing of 186cm is accurate, you guys have no solid evidence that Federer is shorter than that.
OutBenchThis said on 18/Jan/08
Yeah Rob, it was post match. That's a good point Rob you raise regarding intensive exercise and its effects on an some individuals average lowest height. I took that into consideration with my estimate of 184 cm.

I mean, look at Federer with 5'8 Glenn,he is at least 4 1/2 inches taller and Roddick is taller than Federer. Mike does have a point. A lean guy like Roddick, with his proportions could easily pass off as 6-2 on tv If he was just 6-0.
mike said on 1/Aug/07
Hi Lurker... its not that the tennis players lie about their height, but ATP just doesnt put any research into their "Stats". I think they dont even measure them, or if they do its just in shoes. I agree Roddick looks 6'1 to 6'2..thats why cameras and TV can be deceiving..it was only when I saw him up close (in feb of this year) that I knew he was a bit shorter. Tv can play tricks. Its understandable because people think im 6'1 to 6'2 (no one has ever guessed that im 6'0). There is alot of misconceptions out there...people here "6" and they think big deal... but a true 6 footer (without shoes) will actually look reasonably tall.

About the Roddick thing... either Lurker doesnt know his own height or is a bad judge of height... its not up for debate to me, I was 1 foot away from him when he came over to us to sign autographs and we were the same. This was verified by the person with me and in almost any photo you see.

Adam, I believe that "rumour", it shouldn't be actually difficult to judge these two guys, because they're playing a lot against eachother nowadays. Again i feel that the LTA measure players in tennis shoes and if you look at Roddick's footwear they are bigger and more chunky than the other players especially Federer who wears a more elegant shoe. Check out Andy's Babolat shoes i bet they give him a good inch and a half maybe more.
Mike said on 13/Jul/07
You know the funny thing about height is that almost 95% of people think Im taller than what I really am (I get 6'1 + most of the time, sometimes even 6'2), so I can easily see how people confuse guys like Roddick and Federer as 6'2. Almost no one thinks im 6'0 and no one ever thinks im less. Just saying.
Mike said on 13/Jul/07
I should also note I am exactly 6'0.25 without shoes (I have no reason to lie) and my dad even said I was a tiny bit taller than Roddick but gave him 6'0. I felt the same as him. I knew instantly when I saw him practicing on a court before I went right up to him that he wasnt going to be 6'2 , even though I thought on TV he appears taller.
Mike said on 13/Jul/07
To Glen: Im not convinced thats a 5' difference in that pic. That hat obscures the top of his head as well. I will say that I have never seen RF in person, but I have met Andy Roddick in person and can verify (as well as someone else with me who saw) that he is 6'0 even. So if all the stats say he is taller than nadal and federer, someone must be lying. Federer could be 6'1, but that means hes taller than Roddick.

Thank Rob for a nice pic Ivo Karlovic vs Arnaud Clément. But I don't understand;as my feeling, I don't see that this crazy stickleback is shortest(

I just realised thats Glenn in the actually pic up there...my bad... so he did go up to Federer obviously (sorry for overlooking that)... but a couple points.... you cant see where federers head ends because of the cap, but it does not look like a 5 inch difference at all. And its harder to judge someones height the greater the gap is (ie for Glenn to differentiate between 6ft and 6ft 1 at 5'8).
Mike said on 17/Mar/07
Guys, they just quote the heights in shoes.. it happens all the time in sports. Trust me, people all the time think im 6ft 1 or 2 and im 6ft. Its not a matter of agreeing with Glenn or not... the ONLY way to verify is to see them in person. I saw Roddick in person, but I can only say what i think about federer since i didnt actually go up to him, but look at the pics and on TV, comparing to a 6ft Roddick, they are the same height in all of them.

I cant see Roddick below 6-1.

Roddick is well over 6', he's closer to 6'2"

Roddick is 6ft. I had an onlooker certify this as I stood right next to him at the Aus Open. We were exactly the same and Im 6ft and 1/4 without shoes. Given Federer and Roddick are the same height, thus Federer is also 6ft (183 cm).

Thierry Henry looks a legit 6'2'' to me
Jason said on 6/Feb/07
Thierry Henry is also listed at 187cm, probably his more accurate height.

Here is a pic from the press conference:

The angle sucks, but its quite obvious Woods is smaller than Henry and Federer.

I saw Thierry Henry and Federer standing side by side and they were pretty much the same height. Henry has always been listed as 188 cm and i think its pretty accurate in relation to other soccer players. Tiger Woods was also there, and he was clearly shorter than Henry and Federer. So if Federer is 185 then Woods is 180. My guess is Woods is about 183 and Federer is about 188.

I think 185 is his very late evening height. more looks like 186-187.

why do you call him federar instead of federer above?

a few misspellings might be strategicically placed here and there.

Yeah, that pic is screwy because Federer also looks the same height as Ljubicic, who is 6'4". So Federer is either on his toes, or there is something up there. Roddick is standing next to Haas, who is 6'2", and Roddick looks taller.

But for some reason I still think that Federer is maybe 6'1.5". They had him listed as 6'2" on ATPtennis.com for a while. Who knows.

Gramps: No way, Federer is not taller than Roddick, there must be some optical (dis)illusion. Perhaps he's standing a little closer to camera. But great pic anyway!

Saw him at the US Open earlier this year. I'd say 6ft 1 is right on the money.
Roddick I think is a bit less than generally reported, as is Sharapova.

Fed must had an advantage of 1 or 2 cms with his shoes this day !
In my pics they had both tennis shoes. Again Federer is not more 185cms.

One inch taller than Nadal ? No ! An half inch maybe. Nadal is like 6'0.5".
Anonymous said on 11/Dec/06
Federer was listed as 6'2" for a while, but they changed it back to 6'1". He's half an inch to an inch taller than Nadal, and Nadal is listed as 6'1", so something is up.
Juraj said on 14/Nov/06
I think he's around 6'1.5, slightly taller than Nadal who's matured to 6'1. I've seen both of them beside each other many times. Heck, they always meet in tennis finals!

I had two 6-1.5 friends that I thought were 6-3.in fact one lied and said 6-3.I fell for it back in the day.
