I'm from the SW of the UK and I'm amazed at the height difference between Irish people and us. I'm 6'2 which is only just about average here but when I go to Ireland on business I feel like a giant! I think the average height for an Irish person is about 5'7, only 2" less than us Brits but you have to remember how many ethnic minorities there are here that bring down that average. The average height for a white British person must be close to 6', which is what it is in the Netherlands.

When he did the skating on ice series in the uk with skater kristina lenko a few years back she is stated as being 5'2 tall on her website,if you look at footage of the two of them stood next to eachother (with the same height skate boots on) you can clearly see he only looks about 2-3 inches taller than her.So that would put him at the 5"5- 5"6 range.No matter how tall he was, he was still a wonderful, kind person who had a lovely voice and he was quite a dish to look at too.RIP STEO X Agatha says on 17/Dec/09
MD is right. I have been to England and Ireland. It was my impression that the English were taller and fatter, the Irish smaller and skinnier. MD says on 19/Nov/09
Anonymous, that simply isn't true. Ireland is not known as a particularly tall country, becasue it simply isn't. It doesn't mean that it's below the average of say the UK, but it's definitely not measurably taller than your next-door neighbors. Anonymous says on 18/Nov/09
I don't think you can judge the Irish population by Ronan Keating, Westlife, or Boyzone. After all we don't take our perceptions of Israeli feminity from Dana International, don we?
I am Irish. I currently live in Spain and before that I lived in France and the UK. I have travelled extensively and have always felt much taller than people in the countries I have visited as well as in France, Spain and the UK. The only exceptions to this were the US, Austria and the Netherlands. I am about 1m90 or 6ft 2 or 3 and have always felt quite normal in terms of my height in Ireland. I am not saying that everyone is 6ft2 or 3, but the majority of other guys my age would normally be about 6ft atleast, I presume. I can normally make eye contact with people which I can't always do in other countries without lowering my head.
This is just my perception based on my experience!

I just loved stephen, he was my favourite in boyzone....Anyway back to the point i briefly met stephen in london back last year, i asked him for his autograph and we were both eye to eye level and im 5'6 tall and had on flat shoes.I remember looking at him in amazement and thinking he was so short as i thought he was taller than that.He was really sweet and very good looking with amazing eyes that just seemed to melt into you, just loved his irish accent too....sexy! Irish people are a bit shorter than most in Europe but not by that much.
The average height of 25 year old Irish man is 5'10.
Average Height of 20-45 year old is about 5'9.5.

They are Irish, so it is not surprising that he and Ronan weren't tall. When I was in Ireland I was delighted to see that so meny men were shorter than I am and I am 5'9" Hugh 191cm says on 11/Oct/09
Had the pleasure of meeting Stephen a couple of years ago along with the other Boyzone members. He was about an inch under Ronan keating so 5ft7 was possible. Definately the nicest of them. A gentleman. Absolutely tragic hes gone.
