This photo I found puts Amitabh at a "DEAD ON" 6'1. Anyone who thinks he's less should get a brain scan performed. Click Here According to this, John abraham doesn't look near the 6'1 he's billed at. I'd estimate his height to be anywhere from 5'11.5 to 6'0 ft.

If you want the real height of katrina, sharukh and salman, then you must see the KBC video on youtube, all salman, katrina, srk looking the same height......but in some scene when katrina sit on the hot seet, it clears that she has wear 2-3 inch heel; Now the big question is that whether katrina is short or salman is long, bcoz after wearing 3 inch heels she is equal to salman and SRK........anybody has idea

Nice video, but Abhishek is slightly bent when back to back with Amitabh. Besidez, Amitabh is 64 yrs old; he's AT LEAST half an inch to an inch shorter than what he was in his prime! But since it's only an inch, it's hard to tell the difference at times. I'd say Abhishek (in the best posture) is 6'2, and Amitabh is 6 and a half feet tall (6'1 in his prime years).

Well Mamun is standing about half a foot in front of Amitabh. Common sense would explain that the closer one gets to the camera, the shorter the background and all objects falling therein, become. If Mamun were to "back-up" a bit then the top of his head would probably fall beneath Amitabh's eye level. I'd say mid-way between his nose and eyes (so cheek bone it is).

Fairly Accurate i guess! My 6'2" cousin met Dinu Akshay and Zyed at some event a coupl of years back, and those are his estimates for them! The rest i worked out based upon them, based upon what i thought and some common sense!
1) Most models are 6 or thereabouts!
2) People overstate their height by around an inch atleast
3) Fame Increases height!

I was tempted to giv Salman, Saif an shahrukh an inch each, but i remembered their early years, hardly an inch between them and SRK looked short in those days!
Then Akshay Kumar never looked six to me, and someone who doesent look six cant b over 5'11" coz 5'11" guys sometimes look six! The rest was easy! Zyed is shorter than Arjun, who btw my 5'7" gf met and she thinks he was as tall as i am! Silly her, shes hardly even seem without my 2-inchers :D so id peg arjun at 6 max! The rest was easy! Didnt work out the unimportant ones like ritesh an arshad etc!

for any of you people who've seen laaga chunari mein daag, it's very clear in the scenes towards to end of the movie that Kunal is a good 1-1.5 inches taller then Abhishek Bachchan. Kunal says he's 6'2, what does that make Abhishek then? It's funny when Abhishek first came into bollywood, people we're saying he's shorter then his dad, now that he got some fame, he's taller?

@ xyzblast -- The reason it's soo tough getting accurate measurments is b/c these actors keep changing their footwear from time to time. We see John Abraham in chunky-@ss boots and then we see him barefooted or in sandals. But the barefoot example shoot give us an overall impression of where he lies. 5'11.5 to 6 feet is reasonable, looking at his long limbs and torso.

Amitabh's height was 188cms in his college days at KMC sas per his physical records. So that was his peak height. R8 now he will be around 6'1.5. So no more confusion.

@Farzaan from far they both looked similar to Jared and Jensen from Supernatural, but he looked a solid 6'3" throughout the vid really. Abishek looks taller than his dad almost all the time and he is not anything less than 6'1. I don't know why it's so hard to believe. And @xyzblast -- yeaa I've seen that picture of Amitabh and his son a while back, and considering they're both wearing the same footwear, Abhishek still looks clearly an inch or 1.5 inches taller. So I'd give his son a max of 6'1.5 to 6'2(measuring tape value that is). Farzaan wagered soo much down on this photo, what a dissappointment!

Rob you're the man! Yup, I've estimated Amitabh at 6'0.75". Couple of things to notice: Mamun is front of the camera, has straight form possible,and Amitabh is very slightly bent. So, all these things taken account he is looking close to 6'1 and was close to 6'2 in his prime, which explains his quote. There is no way he is flat 6'0!

I remember watching him since I was a little boy. He was always 8 foot tall in my eyes. But yes, a little over 6 feet seems accurate. His son seems really tall, though. Around 6'3" easily.

You can't complain about ground level on the same room where they are very close to each other. And this pic nailed you!No, John is 6'0 and Zayed is slightly taller @6'0.5, but in my pic he looks quite taller than John especailly if he has boots on. Besides Hrithik and John does not look that close in height to Abi as Zayed did. If Zayed starts wearing boots he'd be taller than Abishek. Uday is 5'8 but Zayed is 5'10, that is the funniest thing I've ever heard.

If you look according to this, (they look practically the same height; Hrithik's lifting his head maybe a half inch higher). @S4M No I am not overestimating. Zayed is tall and usually not a lift wearer. Actually, I did watch Vaada while ago. In there both looked similar in height and sometimes Zayed actually looked taller. In IIFA 2005 Zayed was taller than John and in Dus he looked very similar in height to Abishek and much taller than Sanjay. Not really Farzaan. Abhishek and John are leveled with the camera. I'd say John has the upper hand cuz he's more in the main 'frame' of the photo (and is leaning a lot more), whereas Abhishek is to the side. Abhishek is actually wearing dress shoes and john was wearing his work boots! If you noticed, John tends to wear the same pair of jeans (and shoes) for every snap. I believe that picture of his with SRK is posted somewhere below. If you recall, John had some CHUNKY ass boots on during the pepsi ad with SRK. Shahrukh on the other hand was wearing simple joggers (flats). Anywho, my estimate looking at my recent photo of john and Abhishek, puts john at about 5'11 and a half! So I guess your estimate of John (5'11) comes within my range of estimates. Remember, you gotta take into consideration the fact that John is obsessed with boots with chunky healz. Besides, Uday is about 5'8 and I'm sure Bips is wearing heels (2.5 inches). Soo accordingly, John looks about 3-4 inches taller than Uday.

@ Farzaan -- I don't know about downgrading John...but I'm willing to hold off on that 5'11 theory until further notice. I'm giving John the benefit of the doubt. Hrithik looks a good 5'10.5 to 5'11 himself in that pic I posted below. So accordingly, 6'0 to 6'0.5 ft (for John) is a very difficult height range to distinguish. But let's leave John at 6 ft and see what turns up.

I managed to find a pic of John Abraham and Hrithik this time. I know by first-glance that John is standing slightly behind Hrithik, however, he still looks a good inch (possibly 1.5 inches) taller than Hrithik. You can see his eye level meets Hrithik somewhere along his forehead. This pic was taken on flat surface btw (so no obscurities in this one). Besides, john's got a slightly larger shoulder line and head. I'd say 6 feet flat for him and 5'11 for Hrithik. Click Here

@ FARZAAN: Whoaa, all heights are understated here. Farzaan, you're crazy to think John is shorter than 6 feet. Being a model, he needs to be a minimum of 1.83m tall. Amitabh is 6'1.5 on the money. Farzaan, what are you talking about. Indians have one of the lowest average heights in the world. Its mostly due to the fact that you guys dont eat meat of a cow. Pakistanis are considerably taller just because of that fact.

I read somewhere that Amitabh Bachchan is one of the tallest actors in Bollywood. At 6ft, thats saying something.

That's ridiculous!! Dara Singh the wrestler was little more than 6''1' plays father to Amitabh in Mard and is little shorter than Amitabh. This guy is 6 2.5 - not a tinge of doubt about it. I bring this picture of Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham back to your attention. As you can see, there is about 1.5 to 2 inches of difference between the two. Now, just imagine the type of dress shoes John would be wearing in accordance to the suit he's in. If he were to wear the boots that he's wearing in the Pepsi pic I posted with him and Shahrukh, then he would easily be Amitabh's height (which is 6'2). Did you even watch that scene when they are dancing, its on a floor...a hard floor...i have dvd of salaam namaste, i checked it again. Well there is a minor error in this picture. First of all the wedding scene is on a sand beach...there are bound to be uneven surfaces when on sand. But aside from that, in every other normal scene I'd say she looks a decent 5'4 and Saif's got a good 4 inches on her, so 5'8 to 5'8.5 seems right for him.

Well for me preity zinta is a minimum of 5 feet 3.5 and a max of 5 feet 5. 163 sounds reasonable but no more than 165 for sure. One thing that strikes me is that saif ali khan looked about a max of 4 inches taller than her barefeet while they are dancing in the wedding scene in salaam namaste( they are both barefeet in that scene, you can actually see that) but when he is in casuals and she's in casuals too he strangely looks around 5 - 5.5 inches taller but am pretty sure saif is no more than 5 feet 9 which makes me think that he might be wearing lifts since he's not the tallest guy around but he's wearing chuck taylor's mostly so i kinda doubt he would be wearing lifts, very confusing. Anyone has any answers to that.

Saif ali khan is no ways 5 feet 6 or 5 feet 9, i think he is between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 8. In salaam namaste, during the wedding when preity zinta and saif are dancing, saif is about 3 inches taller than preity and since preity is between 5 feet 4 and 5 feet 5, probably close to 5 feet 4 maybe 164 cms and shahrukh is about an inch to inch and a half taller than saif, i think shahrukh is a lagit 5 feet 9 and zayed ia about 2 inches taller than shahrukh which makes him 5 feet 11, fardeen is about the same height as zayed or a lil shoretr so maybe 5 feet 10, hrithik is about 2 inches taller than shahrukh so 5 feet 11. Well, some of you folks are saying that Amitabh is 6'1. If that's the case, the heights of all other actors have to be reduced. Meaning John Abraham would be lingering in the 5'11.5 to 6'0 range, Hrithik would be about 5'10 and this would end up understating many tall actors' heights. Amitabh was in his young age 6.2 inch, in old age one could become a bit shorter, hi might be by now 6.1 inch and this is a fact which is know already for last 30 years. He was the tallest in the industry.

Shahrukh is 5'8. That means Gayatri Joshi is 5'5.5 or 5'6! Shahrukh is a small guy, both on and off screen. Minooshka, if you have a measuring tape at home, just see how tall 5'10 is. Check out what they say about Hrithik Roshan. They say he's 6'1 or 6'2. He's shorter than 6'1 John Abraham by 1.5 inches, which means he's 5'11.5! Measuring tapes are accurate and even 5'10 can look tall. Try it out.

Saw him on TV with Keith Vaz MP. I have met Mr Vaz on several occassions and he is in the 5'7 to 5'8 range. Standing next to Keith Vaz, Amitabh was around 4 inches taller. I was shocked how much shorter he is than being on screen. I would say he is a max 6'0 barefoot.

ok if any one has seen 'agneepat', then you'll know that in the movie he claims to be 6 in half feet tall, 6'6. Now does he look 6'6? hell no. he is probably 6 feet tall and would of been no more then 6'1 in his prime. He is very lean not in an athletic way, thin and long. he has always been like that which makes him look taller. Age has just given him a belly and -1". therfore i think 6'1 is reasonable in his prime and since he is an actor the extra inch is only there to boost his image.

Ok, here's what's confusing me. I have never met Amitabh so I can't say for sure what his ACTUAL height is. I have however watched alot of his movies, and here's what I know:-
1) He has always claimed to be 6'2" - no more, no less.
2) He always seems to be the tallest person in the movie.

He may have lost an inch or so, due to aging and like I said, I never met the man so I wouldn't know how tall he is today.

But here's what is confusing me: he became a leading man (back in the early 70s) at a time when it was a LIABILITY to be very tall (ie over six feet) as no heroine or leading man would want to be dwarfed by some unknown newcomer. Also, earlier pics of Amitabh are hardly flattering - he looks so ungainly. So, wouldn't Amitabh have had every reason to UNDERSTATE his actual height, in order to get work? Claiming to be 6'2" during the time when the average Bollywood actress was below 5'6" and the average leading man was well under 6'0" would hardly have been a wise move!

So, unless there is a flaw in my logic I would say that Amitabh was indeed 6'2" during his prime - which he may, or may not be today due to his age.

Here is the picture of Hrithik standing along side John Abraham. If you use a ruler to draw a line from John's eye level, you can see that John is actually taller by a good inch (possibly even more) than Hrithik. Well I have to say, you all have very good assumptions! However, there is a "but" that comes out of all this guessing; that is ACTUALITY. Bollywood actors are very close to the heights that they boast off with, ex: Amitabh (6'2). Increasing one's height an extra inch is actually quite believable. But to see the tiny details (such as height) one must see them off screen, in person or have a picture of 2 people you want to compare. In an interview with Simi Garewal, model-turned actor John Abraham was quoted at saying, "...and I'm 6 feet 1 inch tall right now, and I'm happy". Models do infact quote their exact height as it affects their profession if they do not. Hrithik Roshan however, is definately shorter to John Abraham by a good inch (possibly even a bit more). Visit the link below to see for yourselves. That would make Hrithik approximately 5'11.5 to 6 feet at most. I myself, am 6 feet on the dot (183cm)and have spoken to many people who are 6'1 and more. A little tip for measuring height is: 1) disregard the hair or anything you may feel may bolster their height. 2) Most IMPORTANTLY, look for EYE LEVEL...(if your eyes are leveled with the person you are speaking with, they are your height. Eye level never lies.

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, as witnessed in Garam Masala, were strictly the same size, John maybe 1 cm maximum taller. This is seen at the beginning of the movie when both of them are standing in front of the restaurant there awaiting Neha Dhupia. John's height is definitely 6 feet 1 inch, as he is a model. Also Monu, you give the link to Amitabh's pic with Brosnan but can you prove that Brosnan is really 6' 1". How reliable is the source you've seen stating Brosnan as 6' 1". He may be taller or he may have higher heels on. Harry Potter Fan user thing, eyebrow level upwards is only about an inch and a half, not 3-4 inches. Also, you can look up on the internet that the human body shrink temporarily on an average of 19mm throughout the day when you bend and sit and so on, and stretches back up overnight when you sleep. That is an inch less there if you see these people at around 3pm.

As for Akshay, he may seem taller in bollywood but in hollywood he's just another average heighted actor. He is about 5'9 max. Who ever doesn't believe me then they don't know what real height is. When i say 5'9, 5'11, 5'11.5 and 6 and it exact. So go get a measuring tape and measure these heights agains't a wall bare foot and that is how tall these actors are baldheaded.

no one in show business tells their real height! and Kenshin models and actors are Known for boosting there height because who is going to notice. when ever you see them you see them in shoes. and if someone is around 6 with in 1-2 inches no one notices. in show business there's only tall, short and average. john abraham is tallish and so is amitabh bachchan but not that tall like a 6'2. trust me when i went to modelling agencey to try out on the form it lists height and the minimum for ramp was 5'11, (india), maybe 6'-6'1 in north america, so when i handed in the form i wrote down 5'9.5 and they told me what is it in shows which be close to 5'10 3/4 so they rounded me up to 5'11.5. so here is a tip, about every actor who is listed from about 5'5 to about 6'4 - 6'8, subtract about 2 inches for there real barefoot height.

i've seen john abraham on two ocassions and he seems like he's 6 feet but then again alot of guys seem 6 feet but they are just a bit shorter by half an 1' or an 1'. most people don't know what a real 6 feet is. if you have a measuring tape then you will see how high 6 feet really is and it is pretty high. therefore if most people saw a person who is 6 feet tall according to the measuring tape then they would think that person is taller than 6 feet. therfore i see what S.BAN MEANS BY REAL 6 FEET. I've also gotten an autograph from AMITHABH BACHCHAN about 7 years ago at his house in Dheli. My older brother is 6 feet and maybe a cm more. When he stood next to MR.BACHCHAN they were both basically the SAME height. AMITHABH was maybe half a cm taller because his puffy hair, otherwise they were the same. Therefore from my personal experience i'd say AMITHABH BACHCHAN IS AROUND 6 FEET OR AT BEST 6.05, MEASURING TAPE VALUE THAT IS. I am a real 5'10 but i can very well say i'm 6 feet to others while my brother is not around who is clearly 2' taller then i am, a real 6. every star male or female in bollywood boosts their height by atleast 1.5 to 2 inches. this is the rule for anyone who enters bollywood that they can boost their own height by up to 2 inches. So the 5'6,7 guys and girls become 5'8s and 5'9s, 5'10s become 6's and the real 6' become 6'1 or 6'2 depending on wether they are 6'0.5 or a little bit more. It's a simple concept. Therfore Amitabh and his son are probably around 6'0.5 to 6'1, John Abr.. is around 5'11, Akshay Kumar around 5'10, Hirtek around 5'10 and so on.

I don't trust many of the M Tussauds wax models, since at times they seem to get the sizes all mixed up (the aforementioned Gigantic Arnold is a good example - that is just straight BS).

However I think A Bachchan's 6"2 is around right. I don't think he's really any shorter, since in many celebrity stills he seems to hover above many other "tall" actors. Even with regard to lifts, I don't think he's as short as 6"1. I think a solid 6"2, possibly near 6"3 when much younger.

probably agree with jack. In Madam Tussauds, his wax model was just marginally taller than my 5'10" with 1" heels. But he was a bit bent. So, 6'1" would be a safe bet, at least for his wax model (or has he dropped some inches due to ageing)

Good points by all, but I think what's missing from the discussion is the concept of 'lankiness' which I define as having a narrow frame with long limbs. Take my case for example, I am 6'0", but weigh only 145lbs and have a 34.5" inseam with a 30" waist. I give the illusion of being taller than my 6'2"/190lbs friend because he is so much 'heftier' than I am.

Same goes for Amitabh. In his heyday, the man was definitely lanky (he has the longest pair of legs I have seen!) as well as being genuinely tall at 6'2". Together, these factors made him look SO MUCH taller than his contemporaries (his competition in the early 70's was the piddly 5'6" Rajesh Khanna!). I think, to answer HM it was Amitabh's lankiness along with his tallness which was unusual for Indian cinema's leading men, at the time. I, too, have seen Amitabh Bachchan in person. I'd guess that he's about 6'2" or 6'3". Also, Bachchan doesn't tend to wear boots or "heels" too often; though I'm sure he's aware that his height helps his career, he seems not to want to emphasize it. This might be because, when Bachchan began in the industry, his height was anything but a helpful factor. These days, it seems "the taller the better"; back then, however, most filmmakers seemed to deem Bachchan "too tall" to be "mainstream."

to HM: yes it is strange, the only problem for shorter men is that women seem to be growing at a crazy rate, tall women (5’7’’ – 5’11’’) are also getting the roles a lot more, i think this factor may dictate the future for short men in Hollywood and soon after Bollywood. But your theory "I wonder then, if one is short of stature, then they stand a better chance of making it on the big screen", seems interesting, Hollywood seems full of shorter men 5'7'' - 5'8'' and taller guys 6'2'' - 6'4'', this probably works for casting purposes and for camera angles. If anyone works in production (Hollywood not Bollywood, I already know about Bollywood) and could explain the previous factor, please post. Because I do know there are many short people in Hollywood, but there are also many tall men 6’3’’ +. (Please no comments like, I have met these tall guys and they are all like 5’11’’ because that would make the short guys 5’4’’, anyone will tell you that is crazy)

Good points SH. Funny isn't it - how Hollywood has exactly the same phenomenon? Short guys (5'7") - lots of them! I wonder then, if one is short of stature, then they stand a better chance of making it on the big screen, than the average-to-tall guys?

"What gives?" - I cannot say, it is strange mystery? 6'2'' is a good height and nicely tall, but as you said in no means gigantic or “TALL”. I think just he just gets labelled “TALL” for the following reasons:
a) he gets his publicity agents to make sure the press bangs on about his height, ego factor.

b) not being rude (i am part Indian myself), but Indian men tend to lack stature compared to Caucasians, especially in bollywood where many of the men are about 5'7'' ( which makes Amitabh 7'' bigger than them. That is quite a difference)

I met Amitabh a few years ago, in London. Being 6'2" on the dot myself, I can state categorically that Amitabh is indeed 6'2" - his published height, as his eyes were exactly level with mine. He is no taller, or shorter.

What does amaze me though, is the legendary status of his height in India. Yes, he is indeed a tall man, but he is not gigantic! Furthermore, Indian cinema had quite a few genuine six-footers before Amitabh came along in the early 70's - take Shammi Kapoor at 6'1" for example, as well as six-foot-plus Sunil Dutt. These actors' heights didn't cause anywhere near the stir that Amitabh's does. What gives?

I have to concur with the editor here, I am 184 cm (Just above 6 ft) and when I met Amitabh he did look about 6'2'' (no way was he 6'4'', I was also wearing those flat Puma shoes, he was wearing healed dress shoes). Maybe slightly less, those of Indian origin tend to be slightly shorter, I know as many consider me a giant. With this in mind, I would say Amitabh is about 6'1'' - 6'2''. One of his bankable features is his stature; therefore he has to promote this image of being considerably bigger than the other actors.
