The size of the actor makes a difference. I'm six feet two and I look at life a lot different from a man who is five feet three or ten.

At twenty, I stood six foot two inches tall and weighed 185 pounds.

Edged Costner in his 70’s

With 6ft 1 Kevin Costner in 1990: Click Here

Footwear isn't visible and the ground may not be even, but assuming that both are equal, Quinn looks very similar to Costner. Given that Quinn was already 75 at the time, 6ft 1.5 peak sounds perfectly believable.
Sinclair said on 14/Jul/21
I also thought Quinn was over two inches taller than 5'11" Hardy Kruger in The Secret of Santa Vittoria.
Sinclair said on 14/Jul/21
6'1.5" is a reasonable estimate for Quinn's peak. He had roughly two inches on 5'11.5" Maurice Ronet in Lost Command and The Marseille Contract and was only a fraction shorter than Michael Caine in the latter film. Quinn may have been more 6'1.25" by that time but still a strong 6'1".

R.I.P Anthony Quinn.

I mentioned Ferrer was similar in height to Heston not Quinn.
Hong said on 14/Sep/20
Looking at it again the guy in the last pic looks more like Mel Ferrer than Heston, but Ferrer was in the same height range as Quinn.

Back on Sept.15, I nailed the Bible epic The Shoes Of The Fisherman with 6'2" Anthony Quinn. (Then after clearing out my video racks of surplus videos I didn't want,Quinn's 1952 Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Viva Zapata! made the list. (I figure about Dec.10 I'll land it.) But a 1963 What's My Line? appearance Quinn made as mystery guest knocked home the two Quinn movies. On that appearance, after Quinn told panelist Phyllis Newman he never made movies for Sir Alfred Hitchcock,William Talman asked Quinn about his artistic talent. After Quinn told Talman he was an accomplished sculptor,he nailed Quinn. One of Mexico's finest actors! Even directed two movies.

Quinn was a fraction over 6'0".

He was quite a lot shorter than John Wayne in that awful film "Back to Bataan".

Yeah I agree with Richardspain - strong 6'1 peak a tad under 6' in his 70s & 80s.
James said on 7/Oct/17
Quinn was 6'0.5" at his peak, and 5'11" in old age.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 11/Sep/17
Rob, he was taller than Costner by an inch...you should go back and watch Revenge. I don't know about lifts. Maybe he was just a bit taller than we think?
Editor Rob
well I wouldn't go under 6ft 1.5, but for Costner, 6ft 0.75-1 range is possible.
Arch Stanton said on 10/Sep/17
There's a case for both Quinn and Marvin being 186 peak.
James said on 8/Sep/17
Quinn was wearing lifts in "Revenge" so he would look taller than Costner. He was 74 at the time.
Jug said on 5/Sep/17
I think a pretty solid 6'1 but not more. Yaphet Kotto looked maybe a little more than three inches taller in Across 110th Street, when Quinn was about 57.
Richardspain said on 25/Aug/17
Looks around 184-185cm in his movies. Not more.

I think he was 185cm in peak barefoot

184/185 young
182/183 old

6'2 with shoes

Quinn was 6'0.5".

How watching "Requiem for a Heavyweight" Anthony Quinn looks like the "Mountain" he is named. I thought he was taller than 6'2 in that picture. Other times he was hard to call.
Arch Stanton said on 13/Apr/17
Mmm, Michael Sarrazin made Quinn look 6'1 flat at the age of 62 in Caravans. Possible he'd lost half an inch from peak but I still reckon peak 186cm would be on the money.
Unsub 5'10 said on 24/Feb/17
I have not yet seen enough of him, but for the moment I'd place him at 6'0.75". He appears next to Heston in a few images and Chuck has at least 1.5" on him, I think he was 1.85m tops.
James said on 18/Oct/16
He was clearly wearing lifts in "Barabbas" so he would look notably taller than Vittorio Gassman.
James said on 9/Oct/16
He can't have been taller than Peck unless he was wearing lifts.
Josh Jeffords said on 2/Oct/16
Doubt a day in his life he would ever measure under 6 1.
He is bigger and looks taller than Greg peck in great movie guns of Navarre towers over David niven and rest of cast.
Often displays loose bad posture I'd lay odds he was 6 2 in his youth and a touch over.
One of my all time favorites
Jings Chen said on 17/Jul/16
He used to be looking as 190 cm in every his film.
Sam said on 31/May/16
I don't know about Granger, but Errol Flynn could have been a guy to occasionally sport a small set of lifts is my suspicion. Remember that he looked taller than 6'2" Ward Bond.
Arch Stanton said on 27/May/16
Then at 38:30 he does look 6'1.5 with Granger. Perhaps it's his posture, really bad times but when stood his best a decent 6'1. Perhaps 186 might be best, but can't remember Henry Fonda looking taller.
Editor Rob
186cm could be possible.

I know it was said below about the film Revenge, but I can't remember how he shaped up with Costner...or whether a guy like him would have lifts to look a bit taller with Kevin.
Arch Stanton said on 27/May/16
A better diff with Peter Graves at 33:33 immedaitely as he gets up. IMO he can even look 6'0.5! If Errol Flynn is at 185 then 185 for Quinn not unlikely, in fact I thought Flynn edged Quinn out!
Arch Stanton said on 27/May/16
Rob see him at 31:28 with a young Peter Graves I think that is. Looking nearer 6'1 flat but posture not great.
Arch Stanton said on 27/May/16
Quinn did slouch an awful lot though, you have to be careful with judging him.
Arch Stanton said on 27/May/16
@Rob, I think it's a time for a wee downgrade, check out 25/28 minutes with Farley Granger , difficult to see much over an inch diff. Quinn can look 6'1 a lot, how about 6'1.25 compromise for now?

it's very arguable he only looks 6ft 1 at most there...if the footwear was equal.
Tom said on 27/Apr/16
Quinn was shorter than Henry Fonda in "Warlock".
Ian C. said on 24/Apr/16
Interesting that Quinn was so tall, because he was primarily a supporting actor. If you're a supporting player, you don't want to be taller than the male lead, so probably 5 foot 8 or 9 would be the ideal height for man in that line of work. I'm thinking back over Quinn's movies and, sure enough, he usually worked with leading men who were taller than he was. Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, Peter O'Toole, to name some I can remember. But he did work with Marlon Brando ("Viva Zapata") and Kirk Douglas ("Lust for Life").
Tom said on 5/Apr/16

I'm telling you, at 75 he looks 6ft2 beside a peak Costner. Proportionally, his shoulders are even a little bit higher and he has less hair. BTW, love the picture. He looks like John Cusack

He didn't look 6'2" in "Back to Bataan", an awful propaganda film. Yet he did look taller in later films when he became a major star.

Arch Stanton said on 4/Mar/16
You could certainly argue 186 I think.
Arch Stanton said on 4/Mar/16
Tough call on his height. He could look shorter than Errol Flynn, but in others films like with Ray Milland he could really look this. I couldn't decide who was taller, him or Milland. I think in a lot of films Quinn looks more in 6'1-6'1.25 range but his posture was never the best. I caught him in one scene with Maureen O'Hara in one film in which he played a bullfighter and really thought he looked 187 with her though.
Arch Stanton said on 4/Mar/16
@Rob Can you find a way to squeeze in The Secret of Santa Vittoria and Lost Command. I've say those more so than Guns for San Sebastian or Revenge. The Secret of Santa Vittoria is one of my favourite films, a Stanley Kramer one.
JR said on 17/Feb/16
I remember seeing him playing Quasimodo in the "Hunchback of Notre Dame" with Gina Lollobrigida as Esmeralda .Naturally he did not appear tall in this movie owing to the fact he had to bend his back in line with the character.

My most vivid Anthony Quinn moment: early in 1963 as Whats My Line mystery guest. Never knew, though,Quinn was Mexican! It looked like Phyllis Newman had Quinn, but when she asked Anthony,"Did you make any movies with Sir Alfred Hitchcock?" and got a "no" answer, the next panelist,William Talman, asked Quinn,"Can you paint?"and Quinn said "Yes",Bill nailed Quinn because Quinn was an accomplished painter/sculptor. Just have one Quinn movie, but it was his best:Zorba The Greek! (Nailed 3 Oscars in 1964,but My Fair Lady got 8 Oscars, including Best Actor,Best Director, and Best Picture! Still,if you like Anthony Quinn, you'll shout "OOPAH!" watching Zorba The Greek.)

Great Mexican actor.Loved his 1963 "What's My Line?" "mystery guest" appearance, especially when Phyllis Newman asked if he ever worked in Sir Alfred Hitchcock movies, but he said to Newman, "I did great movies, but not for Alfred Hitchcock,"then William Talman guessed him when he asked Quinn, "Can you paint?" Quinn was a great sculptor, but unlike Vincent Price,he didn't paint much.(Then Talman guessed him.)

I watched Requiem for a Heavyweight recently. The camera favored Quinn looking massive in this. He looked nearly 5 inches taller than 5'10" Jackie Gleason in some shots. But seeing the movie, it's hard to walk away with anything but a 6'2" impression for the young Quinn.
Lebensdorf said on 1/Nov/08
In Lawrence of Arabia, he looked about an inch shorter than Peter O'Toole, who is 6'2''. Of course, in the scene in which they are standing before each other, O'Toole has on sandals and Quinn boots with a slight heel. I don't know how old Quinn was at the time. I think you have it right, anyway. He looked pretty tall throughout his career, until the very end.

I read that Quinn was 1m88.
Gassman's son is 1,93;he was a basketball player.
I saw Gassman father in Rome;I'm 1,80 and he was taller than me.I think 1,92.But Glenn said that Gassman was 1,88.I think that he was 1,88 barefoot and taller than 1,90 with shoes.
this link of youtube shows the italian showman Baudo(1,85 sure) near Gassman. You can judge...

In the movie "Lost Command" Anthony Quinn looks 3 maximum 4 inches taller then 5'9.5" Alain Delon. Thus 6'1" seems accurate.

Quinn and an uncle of mine roomed together back in the early thirties. My uncle had come out from Oklahoma to act and ended up doing small bits before eventually becoming a portrait photographer. He and Quinn met on some film and decided to share expenses. (And no, they weren't bonesmugglers!). Later Quinn met and later married Catherine DeMille, daughter of CB and after that when my uncle would see Quinn he'd get the cold shoulder treatment. My uncle was 6' and told me that Quinn was slightly taller.
