At almost 80 years old, a 2 inches loss is likely for him. Still not a big drop for someone of his age
Sandy Cowell said on 29/Nov/22
I recently noticed that Craig starred in Turner and Hooch. I bought a copy but NOT for that reason!

His performance in Poltergeist 2 was positively disturbing, especially when he becomes possessed. I showed both to my Mum and she found the second one scarier.

6ft3.25.

This is the most he was. Cress Williams was in an episode of the District that was on this morning and he looked close to an inch taller.

I really like him. 6'4" at his peak, 6' 3.5" or 6'3.3", now.

6'3 Will Ferrell looks taller in Get smart (2015). Perhaps a 70 odd year old Craig is in the 6'2 range.

My 82 year old Uncle is still 5-8

Granted it's easier to maintain a shorter height like that

Not necessarily easier - everybody has the same number of vertebra. The size of the vertebra and the discs between them are relative to overall height so a drop in height for somebody of 5’8” will be less noticeable than somebody 6’4” or somebody close to 7’. The taller the individual the more dramatic the height loss would appear to be. Also not everybody will lose height because lifestyle and environment plays a MAJOR factor in height. If one would want to maintain their height throughout there life then diet, training and lifestyle beyond the gym are the determining factors. Height loss is not a foregone conclusion

I saw Coach on In the internet. Yea it’s easy to forget how tall he was. He looks listed appropriately
Chris Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 11/Nov/20
An inch? I don't think so. Just a few years back he look as listed 3/4 taller than Will Ferrell. 6'3 1/2 peak and 6'3 now is the worst for Craig.

How tall do you think he is now rob? And why has he not shrunk like most men, does he exercise?
Editor Rob
could have lost an inch now, but he held up pretty well into 70's.
Jtm said on 18/Aug/20
I thought he was taller than Jeffrey Jones and also considerably taller than 6'0 ish Keanu Reeves. I think the 6'3.5 listing here was more accurate.

⭐ I really must add that the ghost emoji at the end of my chat about Julian Beck had nothing to do with his passing but everything to do with the spooky character he played in 'Poltergeist II'.

Julian was mainly a stage actor, but appeared in 'The Cotton Club', '9 and-a-half Weeks' and more. I did wonder why his character, Reverend Kane, had changed in 'Poltergeist III' when I first saw it at the pictures. The sad reason is that he had already died by then.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 16/Aug/20
Peak looked over 6ft3 for sure
Miss Sandy Cowell said on 16/Aug/20
Having recently seen Poltergeists I and II, I realized that Craig is actually quite a giant. JoBeth Williams, who has to be 5ft8 or so, looks quite petite next to him!

I wonder how tall that scary-looking Julian Beck was? Aha.... I've found his height and he was 5ft10.5, and he died at the age of 60. 👻

Craig T Nelson gets 6ft3.25 🌝

Craig T. Nelson could have been 6’3.5” at peak, but I think he was more 6’3.25”, as listed here. I’d say Jeffrey Jones was a tad taller than Nelson in The Devil’s Advocate.

Editor Rob
Yeah, he could pull off looking a big 6ft 3 range
Chris Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 27/May/20
@179cm guy

Agree he could be solid 192cm peak and a better figure to give him should be 6'3 5/8 (192.1) and 6'3 1/8 at worst now. He still manage to pull off 6'3 1/4.

Rob, I don't doubt Craig's 6'3.5 claim and I personally can't see him being edged out by someone like Clint Eastwood or Chevy Chase at their respective peaks. Now that he's in his mid-seventies I think that he's held up remarkably well much like Ben Kingsley or Morgan Freeman have.
He had a solid five inches on Gene Wilder in Stir Crazy: ( Click Here )
He had a solid 3.5 inches on Tom Hanks in Turner and Hooch: ( Click Here ) ( Click Here )
He held up well next to giant 6'6 Bill Fagerbakke and I can't see more than 2.5 inches between them: ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here )
He had a solid 1.5-inch edge over Samuel L. Jackson back in 2004 whom you've said could have been 6'2.25 at his peak, Rob: ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here )
He has a solid inch on his Parenthood co-star Dax Shephard: ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here )
Rob, at seventy-four he still looks like a solid 6'3 next to Samuel L. Jackson who's still probably a solid 6'1-1.25 guy himself nowadays, but at this point Craig must have lost at least half-an-inch: ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here )
Will you please give Craig a peak listing of 6'3.5 and a current listing of 6'3 Rob?

At 74 Craig T Nelson make it losing only a fraction of height. Wish him to be healthy and live up to 100 making a record of celebrities only lost a half inch in 26 years time. I think Sean Connery make it his way over 77 still looking 6'2 with 6'1 1/2 Jim Carrey. By the way i see Craig could be close to 6'3 1/2 peak and solid 6'3 1/4 now.

A handful of height listings on this site that used to have the 1/2 inch have been downgraded to the 1/4 inch.

He may not lose any height yet. Some people don't lose any height only when they reach their final stage of age battle with illness from 80-100 years old. I have a grand uncle who always keep up good posture was 6'1 and skinny had keep up all the way and only lose half inch bed bound a year before passing at 95 years old. All goes to good gene.

This is a very large man and he hasn't lost much at all. As for the movie the proposal he looked at least an inch taller then Reynolds if not more and he has a much larger frame then Reynolds which makes him look even bigger then that compared to Reynolds. Could have been a full 6'4 in Coach days.

Editor Rob
yeah he could be roughly that today.
Sandy Cowell said on 2/Feb/17
Craig T. Nelson is 6ft3.5! How very interesting! It now makes me want to check out Jobeth Williams' height, the actress who plays Craig's wife in the 'Poltergeist' trilogy! I think therefore, that she must be pretty tall as well.
I only have two of the above films. I have 'the Devil's Advocate', where there'll be juicy opportunities to compare Craig to Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves, but the film that sends high quality shivers down my spine is 'Poltergeist II', when he goes round singing "God is in his holy tem-ple!" Forget Jason, Michael Myers and Freddie Kruger! That creepy old man in Poltergeists II and III is scarier! AND he can possess you, as we see happening to Craig's loving father figure! If Craig was a little guy, I don't think it would have had quite the same impact!
So 6ft3.5 it is then! The above picture speaks volumes for his height!

Craig t nelson has a strong gene. He didn't loss any height at age of 70 seeing his show parenthood. My dad is 61 had lost about 0.5 since peak 5'11
Arch Stanton said on 8/Apr/16
Mmm in Poltergeist he was stood against the door and only came slightly above the top frame on the door. On my door that top panel is around 6'3. So he was looking 6'3.5 but in shoes though. Hmmm. I guess it can vary from door to door but I'd not have thought him over 6'3" in that film.
Sam said on 4/Mar/16
Watching Parenthood recently and I'd be surprised if he was over 6'3" today and could be a smidge under it. Next to near 6'5" John Corbett, he looked at least 2 inches shorter. Also only looks a couple inches taller at most near Peter Krause, usually less, and barely taller than Dax Shepard in it. In stills online, however, Nelson can look to have some height over Shepard still.
Sam said on 28/Jul/15
Wouldn't surprise me if Nelson was in the 6'3.5"-6'4" range, possibly similar peak height to John Wayne or Clint Eastwood.
Sam said on 3/Apr/15

192-193cm peak is possible. He could look 6ft4 in the 80s. Today it looks like he struggles with 6ft3 flat. Like I said before, he wasn't much taller than Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal
Judd said on 18/Oct/14
6'3.5" seems accurate...in devil's advocate (1997) he towered on al pacino, had almost 2,5" on keanu reeves and was eye-to-eye with jeffrey jones.

I just saw him in a miniseries from 1990 titled DRUG WARS: THE ENRIQUE CAMARENA STORY. He was tall as a young man, and even now he looks like he's kept most of his height. I don't think that Nelson was ever less than 6'3", and I can even buy 6'3 1/2" barefoot for him, but no taller than that. In this miniseries, he has his 6'1" co-star Steven Bauer by an easy 2"; likwise, he has an inch & change on 6'2" Benicio Del Toro. It's too bad he wasn't a bigger star than what he was.

I recall some live TV celebrity show. He'd walked by John Laroquette, who is said to be 6'4" but is likely 6'5". Craig was an inch shorter, but had shoes with 3" heels on. John's shoes had 1" heels. That puts him about 6'2" -6'3".

Craig just walked right by me while he was smoking a cigar in New York City. I am 6'3" and the first thing I noticed was his height. I would have to say he is 6'4", maybe a little taller. Most of the comments are pretty spot on. No way the guy is shorter than 6'3" though, 6'3.5" AT LEAST.

I always saw him very tall (6'4 or more) until I see him in a TV movie 1999 "to serve and protect" with 6'5 John Corbett: the latter was clearly taller by a good inch in the "street scene" we see them walking along.
So, that does not mean he was not a tad taller before when ten or 20 years younger which, in this case, would indeed put him at 6'5 or so.
I bet for 6'4 when young and 6'3.5 nowadays.
