most people here are claiming he was 6'1 peak. that would make al pacino 5'4 range. he was also taller than michael caine in 2003 so hackman was most likely 6'0 at that time and caine was 5'11. the funny thing is most people believe caine was 6'2 in his younger days so that means he lost 3 inches when he wasn't even 70 despite being in good shape for his age. sorry but that's nonsense.

I was a principle background extra with Gene Hackman in the movie Hoosiers and I got to hang out with the actors. Since I studied photojournalism in college, he would have me take pictures with the fans when they asked. I would say Gene was no more than six foot tall as I am six foot two.

It is possible he was a smidge under 6'2" even at peak, but there's enough evidence that he was pretty close to the 6'2" mark. If Hackman was 6'1.7", then Warren Beatty may have been 6'1.5" (Beatty seemed similar or a hair shorter in Bonnie & Clyde). Yes, he was one of America's best screen actors and The Conversation was probably his best work, even better than The French Connections, Scarecrow, Unforgiven, etc.

Watched the French Connection earlier and he seemed between 6'1 and 6'2" to me. More a strong 6'1 and than strong 6'2" Petie. It's a good film but nothing special, no different to many action films of the 70s and 80s. Not sure how it won so many Academy Awards, it wasn't by any means a brilliant film or performance.

A document from his time in the marines that appeared in a sort of "collage" in a 1970s magazine interview listed Gene at 6'2.5" I've never been in the military --but I imagine the military would probably take a pretty accurate measurement as part of an initial physical, right? Then again, since Hackman successfully lied about his age to enlist, maybe the marines weren't too good with numbers!

In the late 1970s had the pleasure of spending 4 hours with Mr. Hackman on a golf course in a pick up game at the public course across from 20th Century Fox Studio in West L.A. From the movies I envisioned him to be a regular 6 foot guy like me, however I was surprised to find he was a big and tall man. I made a point to stand next to him on level ground multiple times. In my opinion he was a solid 6'2.5 at that time.

My favorite role of his is still his turn as Harry Caul in 1974's THE CONVERSATION. He is another one of the few genuine legends left--it's a shame he's retired. At his peak, he was a very strong 6'2", and even into older age he looks to have kept most of his height--next to 6'1" Keanu Reeves, he had 1". 6'2" for sure when he was younger--I could even buy 6'2 1/2" for him at peak.

Same exact height as Warren Beatty in "Bonnie & Clyde." However, I think Hackman is a true 6'2 and Beatty was wearing lifts during the film. I could be wrong here, but I always had that impression.

Likely a little under 6'2 today. In enemy at the state he looked the same height as Will Smith if not slightly shorter. But his peak, a solid 6'2 for sure. Like Sean Connery.

I attended a painting class in Taos NM some years ago, and Gene Hackman was a fellow student. I can tell you that he was 6'2" then, very broad across the shoulders, and not someone you'd want to mess with. He also has very big feet, like a basketball player. And he's a good painter!

In The Conversation, Hackman in some scenes looked about 3 inches or more taller than Harrison Ford. It was weird to see. I always thought Ford was 6'1" in his youth. I've seen Ford at about 5'11" now. Maybe he didn't lose a lot of height and was only about 6'or a little under in his youth.

In Uncommon Valor, Hackman looks noticeably shorter than Tex Cobb, the former boxer, who was usually listed at 6'3" . I'd judge that Hackman looked no taller than 6'1" in this 1983 movie. Being only 53 at the time, I wouldn't think Hackman would have shrunk much by 1983.

No, in Bonnie & Clyde the actual movie, Beatty and Hackman are the same height in 85% of the time. The remaining time is equally divided between either of them being taller than the other. Only in promotional photos does Hackman look bigger. In Reds they're also the same height.

kene6ft3 -- Are you referring to The Royal Tenenbaums? There's a scene in that movie where he layed on his stomach getting a massage. You can see he's got a bit of a humpback. He was about 70 y/o then. In his prime he was probably 6'2"/3".

The original Superman was on Cinemax last night, and I caught a few minutes of it. Reeve only looked marginally taller than Hackman, by maybe an inch. I always thought Reeve was 6ft4, but is it possible he was more like 6ft3. Hackman didn't appear to be wearing big heeled shoes at least from what I saw.
