In a 1973 biography yearbook it mentioned "Hackman, who is six feet two inches tall, weighs 185 pounds".

Editor RobSince the average 90 year old will have lost near 3 inches, the percentage who are still 6ft 2 will be a lot less - equivalent to the 6ft 5 men of that era in terms of percentiles.

If you watch the movie, the difference between Hackman and Cusack isn’t as big but Gene probably had lost some by then.
Roughly an inch between them. But John could be 6ft2 and change. At the time of retirement I still place Gene in 6ft1 zone.

I believe Gene's hat is giving him an advantage here and I'm going by the eye line. Not only that, John is slouching. Gene's eye line is RIGHT at the tip of John's nose. I'm 5'11 and when I had my picture taken with John Cusack, my eye line was SLIGHTLY lower than Gene's is in that scene.

Are those photos actually that recent? I saw some photos of Gene from a while ago and he looked as you described and even then, somewhat gaunt and frail. Probably more noticeable compared to the husky guy he was when younger.

There's a movie called RIOT 1969 on YouTube and 6'2" Jim Brown looked to hold about 1/2 inch but no more over Hackman. Very close in height, the type of small difference that can see saw between either even or alight edge to the taller man. You can see the difference when both properly postured, similar to the 1/2 inch difference observed between Brown and 6'2.5" Ali.

Editor RobHackman could have been about 6ft 1.5 there, whether he had lost a fraction by then? Maybe...Reagan certainly did lose height by that point, but not that much.

From what I've read Hackman was a guy who always struggled with anger issues, big fan of his anyway.

Thanks for the photo. The question is how tall Reagan himself was standing at that time. Reagan hit the 70 yo mark by 1981. If Reagan was 6'1/2" peak he might've been down to 5'10.5"-5'11" by the time of the snap?

he was a couple inches taller than richard harris in hawaii but there is different opinions on harris's height so probably not a reliable comparison. i tried comparing him with Max von Sydow but it was difficult with all the camera angles and posture difference.

I thought early/young Hackman held up reasonably well for an arguable 6'2" or close to it. However, later at an age when one wouldn't assume much height loss if any, there were comparisons, at least to me, that seemed to suggest Hackman to be around the 6'1.5" mark. For me, Hackman is one of those guys that could rate around 6'2" for 80 per cent of the time but that bit less for the balance of comparisons. Not a solid estimate guy like, say peak Goldblum, who held up strongly for 6'4.25" at every turn. There wouldn't be a lot in it but I would guess Connery at full attention would have the edge but I'm not 100% on that.

Found this pic of Gene at 89 yo, tagged as being the first pic taken of him in 10 years. As far as I can find, it's the most recent. No one to compare him with but he looks reasonably well postured and proportioned in his own right, particularly for his age. Understandably, he is somewhat thinner.

Egan was kind of short. Gene Hackman looked more like a policeman (as I imagine they must look) than Egan.

Didn't really look much taller than Russell Crowe (5'11) in the quick and the dead. He also didn't look any taller than Leonardo DiCaprio (6'0.25) in that movie. In the 90s, he didn't look much, if any taller than 183 cm but he could've been 6'2 peak or at least close.

I think a prime Hackman was 188cm on the nose which Wilson looks today. Both in prime though Wilson would be 1-2cm taller than Hackman

I felt in Enemy of the state he looked the same next to will smith as Evander Holyfield looked next to Smith, a fraction shorter. He was probably a decent 6ft1 aged 67/68 and in his prime I'd say not a solid 6ft2 but close enough to claim and retain his 6ft2 listing. 6ft1.75 at night.

I agree, Hackman looked like a big dude in his 70s films, in a movie like Scarecrow with Al Pacino, he towers easily over most of the other actors, Superman across from Christopher Reeve was the first time I can think where he's noticeably shorter than another actor. if i would guess who was taller than him and connery then i would say 80% chasne that connery was a little taller. i can see connery be a littel over 188 flat. at best sometginh like 188,7 but ptobably more like 188,3 and gene i think was maybe 187,7 a guy that was 6 foot 2 som days but could fall just under on other

Voight was about 189-190 peak. Connery and hackman were about 188-189 peak. Connery a little bit taller.

Rob is a weak 6ft 2 for Genes peak possible? In Unforgiven I remember he looked at least 2 inches shorter than Clint Eastwood who was most likely almost 6ft 4, I can buy Clint at 6ft 3.75 and Gene at 6ft 1.75.

Something very likeable and personable about Hackman, nice guy yet you wouldn't want to cross him. Likeable because he doesn't look like an uptight Hollywood actor, but a normal looking, fun-loving uncle or something.
