Diane Lane (5'5.5") was on the Tonight Show a few days ago. She had three inch heels (making her 5'8.5") and Leno looked around 2-3 inches taller. I think the current estimate is correct, although I'd say he could be anywhere from 178-181cm. In his peak, he could've very well been 6 feet even.

Rob, I've seen better pics. Both those girls are standing WAY in front of Jay. We also don't know if they have 4-5" pumps on (doubt it), but still not the greatest pic to judge.

Editor Rob ah, the 5ft 6 girl is in flat shoes, slightly closer to camera...hence, the difference is slightly more, so you could argue he is 5ft 11 there...although I'm not saying anything ;-)

To say about a head taller when it's nowhere near that is lazy and of course I'll point it out. A head taller is like 10" or more, when clearly this is not the case. We're trying to determine Leno's height to the cm and not within a few inches, so, I'll seclectively choose to point out carelessness is I want to. Don't tell me what to do.

Vince is about a full a full head taller than Jay in that pic. The only thing I question is Leno's posture in that picture, because it looks like he's jutting his face ever so slightly. Anyway, I don't buy the 5'11" barefoot.

Oh yeah, this was weigh-in was absolutely before 1997. It could have been as early as 1993. He could be in his 230's now. He's a big guy. He wears a suit, which is closed, so, he doesn't need a girdle. He's not 280-290!!!!

That does seem to be the disconnect bothering me, Viper. I'm really starting to wonder if Jay is a lift wearer. He never struck me as that type of person, but there seems to be sightings of him from 5'11" to 6'1", but then other times (usually more candid sightings out on the streets) you hear 5'9"-5'11". I don't think he's any less than 5'10" barefoot, but I'm really starting to doubt whether he'd be 6'0" barefoot.

I used to see Jay at the Hermosa Beach Comedy & Magic Club in the early 1980s and he seemed well under 6'0". I remember that chin hanging over the stage and he was real thin back then.

One more time. I see Jay almost once a month at a local bookstore specializing in auto books. He and I are the exact, same height and I'm 5'11". And I've never seen him wear lifts of shoes with huge heels. Put it to bed people. It's getting old.

Later she had to admit her diagnosis was wrong, that she didn't have cancer. Then we had Magic Johnson announcing he suffered from the HIV virus only for it to miraculously disappear a few years later. These dimwits will say just about anything to get attention.

Maybe mcenroe's years of stretching for his bad back made him taller, its a rare thing but not improbable. There's a few other celebs who have said this, or some who have done alexander technique and have impecabble posture and maybe just look taller as a result

I just saw the picture with a Confirmed 6-4 1/2 Vince Young. Both stading up straight. No way in hell is Leno 5-11.

I was watching the Tonight Show tonight (5/2/2006-5/3/2006), as I usually do, and Kurt Russell (5'9") was a guest. When he walked out, he and Jay were exactly the same height. Jay is definitely no more than 5'10". He does need to be taken down.

just wondering, but has anyone else noticed in his jaywalking clips he's almost always taller than the person he's interviewing. I don't think I've ever seen a woman taller than him being interviewed by him on that show, during the countless times I've seen that show. Maybe I missed it when he interviewed a woman taller than him, but he almost always interviews short or average height women, never tall. So he always seems pretty tall, like at least 5 foot 11. anyone agree?

one of my g/fs was recently in the states for her sisters wedding, and she went to the tonight show with Leno. She and her sister and fiance all met Leno, prior to the show commencing, and they shook hands with him etc... When she was telling me about him she couldnt help saying how short and fat he is ( which I always thought he was), and even her sisters Fiance said he was short and fat, and he himself is hardly 5'9". So maybe Leno enjoys the odd lift, but if he were 5'11" I dont know if they would have said short and fat? maybe just fat hahaha. 5'10" is my best estimate from seeing him in person. He visited USC's campus when I went to college there. At one point he was standing 5 feet in front of me, but there were a lot of people crowded around him. I remember people around campus saying that he wasn't as tall as they thought.
On a related note, when Brad Pitt was on Leno one time, they appeared the same height when shaking hands. If anything, Pitt may have been a little shorter.

When Queens Of The Stone Age played on The Tonight Show, he wasen't really dwarfed by their allegedly 6'5"-vocalist Josh Homme. I'd say he was 5-6 inches shorter, tops. Not totally sure if they stood on the same even ground though.

Before I had heard of any given height for him, I used to come up with a guesstimate of 5'10", compared to the guests whose height I knew. 5'11" may not be out of the question, but 6' certainly is.

I would say that he is somewhere between 5'9"- 5'11". He always seemed kinda on the short side to me but I think that's because of his stocky frame and big head. I wouldn't rule out him out as a regular lift-wearer because his height seems to flucate around different guests and he does have kind of a funny walk sometimes. So, he's nowhere near 6'0", he's just average.

John, you are touching on another issue that has not been raised here. The fact is, height is very different for each person, because it is distributed differently. I have stood next to people who look down on me eye wise, but who I am the same height, because I have a cute bump on top of my head which gives me extra height. Also, I have stood with folks who have shoulders below mine, but back to back they are taller, because they have longer necks and heads. I am stunned when people in this group make assumptions of height based upon average head and neck size. There is no such thing! Some people have longer legs which make them seem taller, and others have shorter torsos which mkae them seem shorter, and neither may be accurate from a glance. i think Jay Leno is 5'11 but it is the actors or celebrities that come to his show who are not as tall as they are listed or claim to be.
i also thought Leno is 6ft but when he stood next to clint eastwood he was about 3 inches shorter than him and Leno is 1,5 inches shorter than Tom Hanks who is 6'05 so i think leno is 5'11 but many actors who claim to be 6 or 6'1 are infact 5'11 and some times shorter than Leno.

He looked two inches shorter than Will Smith when he was on the show about two months ago. He's probably 6ft, which is weird, because in pictures and on tv he doesn't look more than 5'8"...maybe his huge head makes him look shorter lol...yeah he's 6ft

I've heard Leno say he's 5-10 before in an interview at a car show thing he was doing...interstingly enough Pierce Brosnan was his "guest" there and I have to say Pierce was EXACTLY 1 inch taller.

CHRIS....No offense but u can't judge off Paul Newman who used was listed at 5'9 in his youth, who knows if he lied. But he's an elderly man now and has shrunk so you can't make an accurate judgement of him becuase his height falls into question as well.

I remembered seeing a show where he had on Nicole Kidman and she had on these spike heeled boots that would give her atleast an extra 3 inches, but she only appeared about an inch of two taller than Leno. I also know Leno is an inch taller than George Clooney, which is probably why he sometimes get listed as a 6 footer. So unless you think Leno wears lifts, 5'11" seems very possible.

When Paul Newman was guesting the tonight show, I noticed he was about 3 inches, maybe 3.5 inches shorter than Jay Leno, so 5.11 seems about right.

i have never thought about lenos height. I always wtch his show though and i alwyas assumed that he was around 5'9". He is definitelly not 5'11". 5'8" jennifer garner was on his show she was waering heels and she was taller by about 1-2 inches taller, if leno were 5'11" she would have to be wearing 5 inch heels. they were like 2-3 inch heels. And also just based on all the other celebrities i have seen on his show he has never appeared to be even as tall as 5'10"
