hmmm but meeting the guy UNK i can just tell becuase i know my own height and he was wearing smart black leather shoes with a very small heel.
of course i dont know the size of this heal in cm, but i honestly beleive it was under 1 inch. he is certainly taller than me.
as for films of course directors use tricks, but ive loooked at many photos from film sets, and on fan sights and he consistantly looks over 5'9 to me. of course that is my opinon from the evdidence i have SEEN. i will gladly accept the view of others if can see a clear picture of him standing on level ground, standing totally upright. becuase pictures can be deciveing as well as im sure you are aware

What I was saying is there hasn't been enough evidence for Rob to downgrade Kate from 5'6", so we can't just assume she is 5'4" by a few quick sightings... she looks more 5'5" to me.

I think Glenn is a great source to this site for sure, but even he admits seeing someone in the flesh for a few minutes doesn't make you an expert on their height. You could ball-park it pretty close, but getting an exact height is still tricky. Depp is unequivocally at least 1.5in taller than Rob Morrow who is listed here as 5'9. In the movie "Private Resort" - both were in their early 20s and both were barefoot in many scenes together. Either Depp is 5'10 or Morrow is only 5'8 - you can't have it both ways

actually matt im 'squabling' over a different issue. the fact that i wont be told what i can and cannot write on this site, other than by its administrators. theres this thing called free speach.....
as for your picture matt, its flawed as we cant see thier feet. therefore we dont know what footware they have on. so it seems strange how you can make such irrational and genralised assumptions, when it clearly is not 'solid proof'. a better exmaple of 'solid proof' in my opinion would be a clear picture showing footware on flat ground.

ahhhh had a brainwave, check out the film the astronauts wife. in that depp clearly is about the same height as his 5'9 co-star Charlize Theron. perhaps depp is 0.5 inches taller than her.

as far as im concerned depp's height lies between 5'9-5'10. i have watched basically every one of his movies and being a fan ive seen 100s of photos. depp often has heels on his shoes, nothing more substaintial than 2 inches i would say. but consistanly to me he has never looked under 5'9. he has worked with quite a few actors over 6 ft and he has never looks dwarfed by them. so stop squabbling over 1 inch, i would understand if he was like 5'7 and claimed to be 5'10. the fact is hes stil a total legend. 5'10 or not.

4) The camera angles are not neutral for height guessing

Depp has never looked tall and has never created the illusion of looking tall. He has however, in his early years atleast, been partial to 2in boots. I don't think he has ever consciously tried to boost his height, unlike Cruise. I mean, he did fear and loathing out of respect for HST and shaved his head and wore 1in sneakers. he's all about acting and has no reason to boost himself, he'll be fawned after no matter what his height. I htink that now he's settled down, he cares even less - Cruise should take a hint!

One reason Depp looks taller is because he has a pretty small head, hence his eyeline and shoulder are higher than someone of similar height with a larger forehead or head.

Anshelm, I saw that pic recently in a magazine and I was blown away by the difference in Rush and Depp's height. I don't know how Rush(5ft11.25) can be only 2 inches taller than Depp, but look that huge next to Depp in that pic. Granted they are wearing boots and hats, but still there is at least 4 to 5 inches difference from where the tops of there heads would be, minus the hats which add several more inches. I'm guessing Depp is shorter, and Rush is at least 6ft or a bit more. Anshelm, I saw that pic recently in a magazine and I was blown away by the difference in Rush and Depp's height. I don't know how Rush(5ft11.25) can be only 2 inches taller than Depp, but look that huge next to Depp in that pic. Granted they are wearing boots and hats, but still there is at least 4 to 5 inches difference from where the tops of there heads would be, minus the hats which add several more inches. I'm guessing Depp is shorter, and Rush is at least 6ft or a bit more. UPDATE-I was the one who posted on oct 13. Well I saw Wilmer Valderamma hug Rosie O'Donnell on the View the other day and he looked taller than Usher and Johnny Depp hugging Rosie O'Donnell. The funny thing is Wilmer being of normal weight looks shorter in pictures by himself. While Usher and Johnny Depp because of their slim looks can look really tall when they take photo stills. Look at the picture with Johnny Depp standing next to his Porsche. I took a picture by a same model Porsche and I stood just as tall as Johnny. I am 5'9" and 152 pounds. I have a slim look and can look deceivingly tall when people see me walking alone when I approach them.

The director, whoever it was, took a lot of trouble in creating the illusion that Depp was about as tall as Theron, but failed miserably. From what I understand her saying... it's like a lot of celebrities are smaller in person because they don't give out their real heights, and you can't tell in films. If O. Bloom says he is 5'11" I'd bet in reality that is atleast 2 inches more than what he really is. So in Depps case he probably is a max of 5'8". I can't be certain of this but it does make sense to me.

One way you can tell a person's height is if you look how LONG his arms are, usually guys over 5'9" have longer arms than guys who are 5'8" and shorter.
Examine Depp's arms and Glenn's , Glenn's almost looks dimunitive, Depp's are longer.

After recently watching Ed Wood, compared to Sarah Jessica Parker(about 5-3) and Martin Landau(6-0 maybe 5-11 considering his age and posture, Depp appears to be either 5-8, 5-9 tops. My guess is 5-9 give or take a quarter of an inch.

remember guys "lifts" don't necessarily mean higher heels, they could also mean hidden lifts that goes inside a shoe that has a low heel. But I don't think Depp would wear hidden lifts during the production of a movie, that probably would be terribly uncomfortable.

Paul was wearing pretty much the same size heel as depp was. And when Depp's on screen mother told him to take his boots off when he walked into the house, he only dropped about 1 inch. He then appeared with out boots next to Ray Liotta who had slippers on, and they were as close in height as they were when they both had boots on.

i am leaning towards 5'7", too. When both he and Christina Applegate were barefoot he had about 4 inches on her. now if she was 5 foot 5 as she is listed most of the time, it would make depp about 5'9". but after reading the christina height article glenn says 5'3 or 5'4. Here is a picture beetween Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro (186cm in my opinion) and Depp stands pretty straight and so does Benicio. I don't see any suspicious about their shoes either. I'll give Johnny 173cm :)

Glenn, do you wear similar boots? Because if you don't, Depp ends up looking pretty close to your 5'8". Why do you think he's 5'9 - are these bad angles?

it had a heel going these boots.and someone confided in me he wore lifts.in those days he looked almost 6 feet! now he looks 5-9,-5-10.

Added another pic of Glenn and Depp, he was in timberland type boots. Also another axl rose and changed the old jack nicholson shot (scanner cut top of their heads off) to a better one glenn had scanned today.
