Hmm, yeah, depends on what he loses over the day. If he's around 1.75 evening I'd say he is about 1.76 in the morning. I guess 1cm is the average someone's loosing during the day. Anything below or beneath is unusual, I think. (please correct me if i'm wrong, that's what i always thought) Anyway, fits pretty well to my (/our) other calculations.

I think Johnny is the greatest actor of our times and I admire him and his work, so it doesn't matter how tall he is, but it's just fascinating how different he can appear. Some say 5'7 and others 5'11! And, to be honest, I would appreciate a 5'9 Depp because I'm 5'9 myself ...

Editor Rob it's just bizarre, the guy is holding a reference widget near bloom's face and some other voice is calling 179.5cm. Maybe this is just being read out from a previous measurement.

today i believe i saw johnny depp in my neighborhood in new york. while he was seated, i observed that he had black boots on, with at least a 2 inch heel, heck maybe even 3. when he stood up, he seemed about 5'11 to 6' He was taller than myself and others around me by about an inch. Ill get an exact measurement since i saw where his head came across a certain figure. Also he is incredibly thin, about 145-150 pounds in my guess. So i agree with his height being about 5'9 - 5'9.5

If the wax figures (in Vegas) are true-to-life, then he's about 5'7". Also seems to be shorter than most of the actors he works with-- unless everybody else is unusually tall, then he's kind of short.

I have copies of Inside The Actors Studio with Johnny Depp.If you look at James Lipton who is around the 5'5-5'6 mark you can gauge some of the heights.For example he had on Hugh Laurie who is 6'2 and there was a hugh (pardon the pun) difference in height ,probably 8 inches.When he had Johnny Depp on the show,they looked very close in height.Perhaps Depp had an inch or so over Lipton.Look them up for yourself.I'd say Depp is the 5'7 stated above.

Glenn, are you wearing heels? You might consider asking these celebrities to a Chinese restaurant and having them remove their shoes. Then, pose for a photo with them. I notice that Johnny in many photos in the past favors a pair of old, dusty, lace-up boots. I've seen those boots and guess they don't add more than one half inch to his height.

No, Depp is obviously not standing straight, as he is walking, and you can't stand straight while walking. But it's true, Theron isn't at maximum posture either. But in the second one you can see the difference of about 1 cm. (1.77 Theron --> 1.76 Depp)

I saw someone mention lifts in an earlier post and I just don't see it. It makes no sense for someone who actively tries to make himself ugly to worry about how tall he is. I don't think I've ever encountered someone so beautiful who has so little vanity.

If he had height issues, surely he would have protested acting beside such a tall woman or at the very least refused to do the barefoot scene. I think Glenn is right on the money. Mr. Depp is a chameleon who can look anywhere from 5'8-5'11. I think the 5'10 estimate is reasonable because boots and/or bad posture can affect these numbers. He's very versatile as an actor and the physical versatility simply adds to it. He's perfect for Hollywood.

Yeah, if you're considering all that, 5'10 would make the most sense. Rationally seen. But as I said, there's so much that mispleases me about this estimate, such as posture in a lot of pictures (what can't always been explained by slouching) and other calculations. I wish you could meet him, glenn!

Yeah, if you're considering all that, 5'10 would make the most sense. Rationally seen. But as I said, there's so much that mispleases me about this estimate, such as posture in a lot of pictures (what can't always been explained by slouching) and other calculations. In fact those boots are so old and worn out that if anything they would have less height than a normal pair of new shoes because those old boots have really lost their shape, the soles would be worn down and the insoles compressed.

Look at The Libertine. In the scene where Depp and Malkovich walk along the arcade I see a 10 cm difference in height and they both wear the same heeled shoes.
If Malkovich is 182/183 cm, then Depp 173/174 max.

Anon if he is as short as you say he wouldn't be 5'11 even with lifts. You can really only gain about 2 inches unless you put lifts in cowboy boots and that looks really weird. He does wear stuff with chunky heels sometimes, but doubtfully with lifts. He is 5'9" he looks average, but not short.
Anon if he is as short as you say he wouldn't be 5'11 even with lifts. You can really only gain about 2 inches unless you put lifts in cowboy boots and that looks really weird. He does wear stuff with chunky heels sometimes, but doubtfully with lifts. He is 5'9" he looks average, but not short.

Just saw Pirates III yesterday (great movie by the way !), and he was barely taller than 5'7" Keira Knightly, both in their flat shoes. I'd say 5'9" maximum.

It's true that Johnny Depp looked roughly the same height as Jay Leno (who is 5 11), but there are several factors I think people are overlooking when they view Johnny Depp:
1)He enjoys wearing shoes that make him taller (ie cowboy boots, dressy shoes, boots, etc.). These type of shoes can make him taller than he actually is.
2)Johnny also enjoys wearing clothes that make him look taller. At important social gatherings like the Oscars, movie premiers, etc. he tends to lean towards flashy clothing. It is proven that dressy apparel can make you look taller than you actually are, especially if you are farther away from cameras and photographs. If one person was standing say twenty or so yards away from a dressy Johnny Depp (like at the Oscars for instance), that person's eyes will be decieved by how tall really is. His flashy clothes and shoes will make him definitely look taller than he actually is.
3)Lastly, it also proven that cameras and photographs can make you either one of two things: fatter than you actually are OR taller than you actually are. Why do you think models and famous actresses try to stay as thin as they are or try to get thinner. They KNOW that cameras and photographs can make them look fat. They also maintain their body weight so that they can appear taller (Keira Knightly is a prime example. Look at her in the second Pirates of Caribbean movie premiere. I thought she was like 5 9, when in fact she is ONLY 5 7). Going back to Johnny, he has a very slender body. It would only be right to say that every shot can make him taller than he actually is (along with the type of clothes and shoes he's wearing).
So, taking in all the important factors that can make a person appear taller, I would have to say that Johnny Depp is either at 5 7 or 5 8 or maybe somewhere in between.

I do believe that Depp is somewhere between 5’9”-5’10”. Maybe I’m wrong but any photos I have seen him wearing the old boots he does look like a 5’10” person, if he had lifts in them he should look close to being a 6 footer.
I’m not denying that Depp has lifts in his arsenal of footwear, but I do think that his old brown boots are just regular shoes.

The reason I believe this is because in the photos he is wearing those old boots he appears 5’10”. If they had lifts in them he would be closer to 6’.

But it shows that he is not above wearing thick heels. Also, his dirty old combat boots are suspected of having lifts in them... people have posted some close-up examples of some strangeness going on there... so don't just assume they give him an inch.
