Rooney look a little bit taller then Owen in this picture. Maybe half a inch or an inch at the most. Considering Owen in 5"8, put him at 5"9 which is still a little generous.

well rooney is normally listed at 5'10 but i thought until recently he was more like 5'11...after seeing the picture of him darren submitted next to beckham i am thinking now maybe more 5'9.5. how old is that pictutre? maybe wayne has grown since because i know he is only 20 or 21

He looks small because he isn't really thin for a football(=soccer) player. But I think that he's 5'10. Maybe a bit smaller but not under 5'9.
