If he is 177-178, then why is Stevie Wonder (6'0) so much taller than him? Why does Ronald Reagan (6'0) look 4 inches taller than him? Why does 5'10 Paul McCartney 1.5-2.0 inches taller than him in Say Say Say? The answer is that Michael was only 5'8 and 5'8.5 max.

Yes that's what I'm saying. It's impossible for him to be anywhere near the height that's mostly claimed everywhere, the 5'10 or so. He wore high heeled shoes a lot and in his videos was often surrounded by people close to his height. So he looked to be more average height because of that. If I have to guess an exact height I would probably say 172cm or 173cm, 174 at the most! And like I said he was always small for his age. Celebrities always seem bigger than life to most "regular" people anyway and MJ was the biggest Star there was! Of course they're going to exaggerate his height. Don't be fooled by that and just use your own eyes to figure it out.

She has was wearing high heels and he was wearing shoes with a large heel, possibly 1-2". She has previously stated (on Oprah show) that she is 5'2" in height. In the picture, he appeared to be about 4" taller than her. There's no way he's 5'9" or 10".

I'm skeptical about autopsy reports. Just lying down for days may increase you height. I remember when I was lying down in a hospital for 4 days I gave my height as 5'8" when I was asked. When I stood up after 4 days a nurse thought I was quite a bit taller. Now granted this nurse claimed she was 5'7" when she clearly wasn't, but regardless she thought I was almost 6 foot!
With that being said 5'8" does seem too low for Jackson despite Frank2's sighting and the picture. He just didn't look like a 5'8" guy to me. I'd say atleast 5'9". At 112 lbs. he looked thinner than I do and I'm 5'8" and about 110 give or take. I'm pretty sure that weight is accurate for me since I'm a very small guy with a 25 inch waist, a 30-31 inch chest and 10.5-11 inch biceps, but I don't look as thin as Jackson did.

My friend and I went to the trial in Santa Maria. At one point we stood next to MJ and were taken back by how tall he was. I didn't get out the yardstick, but I'd say he was a good 5'10 if not taller.

I'm always very amused when people think he was that tall, but luckily most people can see that it's extremely unlikely. He was very tiny! Howard Stern wrote about meeting Michael Jackson in his book. He mentioned that Michael was tall.
Howard is extremely tall, so for him to find someone else tall, proves to me that Michael was probably tall.
I'd say 5'10" or 5'11" sounds right, because on a skinny man, that can give the illusion of being about 6' tall.

I don't see any evidence that this guy was 5'9. Eddie Murphy was an inch taller than him. There's one photo out there with Murphy which is misleading. He's wearing high-heeled boots and appears taller because Eddie is wearing loafers. What is it about these musicians being overstated by an inch on this site? (probably because they're so skinny)

Except he wasn't 5'9" the day I met him. He was 5'8". For Christ's sake people! I MET THE GUY!! I was next to him in the mix booth for perhaps an hour. I'd know if he was 5'9" and he wasn't. He wore loafers with extremely flat heels. Same as I wear. He was standing next to the music mixer Armin Steiner who's 5'10" and Michael was obviously two inches shorter. When composer Bruce Broughton walked in who's about 6'3", Michael came up to his chin level. This was back in 1988 when the orchestral tracks for MOONWALKER were being recorded with a huge symphonic orchestra on the Fox scoring stage. My office was across the street.

hey I know he's a solid 5'9 which i think makes sense-- he stands par with usher, janet is 5'4-- perfect height difference b/w boy and girl, when dancing with nsync everyone was taller than him by one or two inches except the shortest guy who is 5'9--only a 2 or 3 inches taller in pictures than diana ross (5'4) in heels-- def. not 5'11-- he was all leg that's obvious

We don't know what kind a person he was, but there's no doubt he was a great musician. Look at him with Alan Light and tell me he's the same height. 5'8" or 5'9" is a reasonable.

They are exactly the same height and Oprah is around 5'5. Yes she had on about 3 inch heels which would make her around 5'8. If you look at Mike's footwear in all his videos and in the interview they all have thick soles giving him 2-3 inches.

If Michael was 5'10 then Reagan was 6'2 in his 70s, but we know Reagan was only 6ft, so Michael was only 5'8. Look at "Say, Say, Say" video. Paul McCartney is about 1.5 inches taller than him and we know Paul was never over 5'10.

Recording an album at Fox? I didn't know they even had a studio there outside of an old Lionel Newman, Mark Snow scoring room. He was doing one song in rehearsals and just dying in pain afterward. That string of dates was going to be cut big like I said on the 15th.

Watching a lot of his videos over the weekend, he truly never seemed tall. About this height though his shoes definitely gave him in advantage in 90% of his videos.
For the record, the autopsies coming out have been proven to be false. We won't know anything official for a few weeks. I think I read 8 to 10?

Trust me. He wasn't more than 5'8". He wore normal loafers with low heels. I know since I wear the same style. I was three inches taller. I know people who are 5'9" and they're taller.

112 pounds? WOW, my sister had a teen magazine in the 1980's and he was in there at 5'11" and 135 pounds (this was AFTER a noticeable weight loss). To think he went down to 112 pounds. Was 120 pounds during the trials of 2004/2005. The man was wasting away. Was probably 5'9" in reality.

Back in the 1980s I met him one day at Fox when he was recording an album. He was no more than 5'8" and couldn't have weighed more than 125 lbs. His handshake was like nothing. Very weak.

From what I can surmise I believe Michael was a wiry and very thin 5'9.5" at his peak and later shrunk to around 5'8.75". Obviously his body went through much abuse throughout his life from plastic surgery to demanding tour schedules and poor dietary habits.
He often looked taller because he was so skinny and is a classic example of an ectomorph.

I would say he looked as tall as 5'11" at times. He never looked short even around tall people. Long limbs and a skinny frame will do that for almost anyone.
He will be greatly missed. I grew up with him, branched out to other music, but always saw him as one of the greatest artists(not just musicians) in modern history. RIP Michael... I dont know when or if we will ever see anyone like you again..could be decades at least. Be at peace.

The traditional J5 formation from left to right Tito, Marlon, Jackie, Michael, Jermaine. When they showed up on Hollywood Palace in Fall 1969 Tito was just about 16, Marlon was 12 1/2, Jackie was 18, Michael was 11, Jermaine was 14 going on 15. They picked this formation due to the way heights looked. Big adult Jackie in the middle with the two little kids on both sides and the teenaged guitar players on the ends. Jackie was by far the tallest, Tito was next tallest, Jermaine was right under Tito, little Marlon was taller than little Michael. In reality, he is really 5'9.5" since thats how you guys have Will.I.Am listed. I saw MJ on red carpet in London 2006 on the World Music Awards. He looked quite tall because he is skim and he has got really good proportions and also he had got there his 'lift' shoes.So he just looked about 180 cm. I am 184-186 and I think 180 it's look good. When compare for example of singer Prince (157) with MJ (175), Prince lookes really small all time. If MJ has got good shoes he lookes good...and for dancer is 175 perfect height (see Fred Astaire-175cm)

and he actually DOES look an easy six footer(if not over) with numerous pictures i've seen of him and e'casanova(a look-alike tribute artist). e'cas is listed as 5'11" on his personal myspace and in every pic of him and michael, michael is noticeably taller, even when slouching. the pics are on myspace so i'll try to save them and upload them when i can....
and fyi, i talked to e'cas through myspace private messaging once and he seems like a very sincere and down to earth person......not someone to lie about height.
and btw, in full makeup, it is virtually impossible to tell michael from e'casanova-he looks JUST like him, it's amazing! and on top of that he can dance and sing identically to him, it's really a sight to behold, you'll swear you're looking at the real mccoy!! you'll see in the pics....

amanda, i think i might agree with you, but for the wrong reasons. it's pretty ridiculous to use the fact that "he said himself in his book" as an argument of what his real height might be......if you've read this site, or pretty much ANY article at all regarding celeb heights, you'll know that stars are extremely notorious for lying about what their height is. chris rock said in an interview that pretty much every person "grows" 3-4 inches with fame. possibly a bit of an exaggeration, but it's not that far from the truth. i could easily list a good dozen big names that claim to be taller than they are.
in fact, the fact that he said 5'10 in a book, makes me believe he is about 5'8-9 because if he were a legit 5'10er there's a very good chance he would claim 6'0.

jackson claims to have had a mere 2 plastic surgeries only his nose to be able to reach higher notes(not for aesthetic purposes).
god only knows what else he is being less than honest about(and no, i'm not talking about macauly).
believe it or not, i'm a huge fan of his and i think he seems like a really great guy. i truly believe he is not a molester, but it's pretty obvious to any sane person that the man truly has serious issues. i really feel bad for him, too.
