This is the opening scene to episode 1, Series 1 of Happy Valley, in which Catherine finds herself trying to talk a teenage boy out of committing an act of arson:

“I’m Catherine, by the way. I’m 47, I’m divorced, live with my
sister, who’s a recovering heroin addict.

I have 2 grown up children, 1 dead and 1 I don’t speak to, and a grandson.”

After an introduction like that, surely the boy is going to realise that other people have it rough as well?

Sarah, or Catherine the Great in this production, looks a strong 5ft7. 😄

I saw it again on plus one, and Sarah didn’t shout the rude word at all; she whispered it!

Little did she know what a terribly desperate incident would follow. The guy, a Police officer who had been blackmailed by his evil wife, she having drugged him and taken compromising pictures of him, threatening to ruin him, snapped and killed her. He couldn’t live with himself and jumped to his death. Catherine cried.

There was a massive disturbance in tonight’s Happy Valley outside a public house involving a bloke called Neil, played by one Con O’Neill, who had even been pilfering food from people’s plates! It was so funny that I’d have turned it back time and time again if I’d been watching this on DVD. He didn’t exactly hold back in the language department either!

Catherine had to arrest him! 😋👌🏼 Her height came in handy with this tricky drunken geezer, who was probably around 5ft9.5/10.

Sarah is returning for a third series of Happy Valley and it starts on New Year’s Day. Perhaps that’s why the Drama channel has been showing the first two - to remind us just how good it was!

That was an eventful Classic Coronation Street to see in the new century! 🤭

Poor old Mike Baldwin is cheated on by his far younger partner - WITH HIS SON 😝, Leanne is attacked as the Rovers pub is broken into 😣 and the only pleasing bit is the return of the lovely Raquel, right at the very end.

Now I didn't remember that!

I'm so pleased to see that 'Happy Velley' is beginning a re-run on the Drama channel. If you haven't seen it, and wish to witness some first class acting, then I thoroughly recommend this series. It has EVERYTHING, and turned me into a Sarah Lancashire fan.

Oh dear, this is quite sad. Curly Watts has cottoned onto the fact that Raquel doesn't fancy him and brings up that he knows she was crying in the toilets on her wedding day to him! He might be around 6ft, and have a beautiful wife, but doesn't this just show that height isn't everything. Furthermore, Curly's about as humourous as getting your toenails pulled off!

Ha ha ha! Bet was arguing with husband Alec Gilroy in a recent episode that Sarah's character Raquel wasn't an appropriate barmaid, moaning about her being brainless, which we know to be anything but true in real life. She came out with, "Has she learnt anything since she was first able to walk?"

Alec replied, "When you walk like that, you don't need to!" 😂😂😹😂😂

I truly believe that being the fairly tall 5ft7 contributes to her eye-catching walk. I mean, why do models have to be so tall? It's because their strutting around turns heads!

Maybe that's why I feel so much more confident walking in high-heeled shoes and the higher they are, the more positive I feel. There's no way I should ever, ever criticise a guy for wearing built-up shoes - but I know I have!!! 😏

Ha ha ha! Phyllis just gave a £5 loan to the gorgeous Raquel and received a kiss on the cheek from her. She didn't complain about THAT! In fact, she came over all coy! 😍👸😘

Shortly after Sarah started in 'Coronation Street', I read an article about her being anything but bimbo-like! She's certainly proved herself as a serious actress after she left C Street. 'Happy Valley' was one of the best serialised thrillers I've ever seen. There have been plenty more as well which my mother saw and even she loved Sarah; Mum was extremely fastidious about the actors and actresses she raved about, I can tell you! 😉

I've been waiting long and eagerly to see Sarah make her debut in 'Classic Coronation Street', and now, with it being the start of 1991, she has! She is as slim as a reed and working in that awful 'Bettabuy' supermarket, with the title of 'Miss Bettabuy'! Would I like to have some fun defacing their 'Bettabuy' signs!

Sarah is definitely the tallest of the girls working there and she would no way pass for even a fraction below the 5ft7 mark. That's exactly what she gets from me this evening. Five seven for this gorgeous and intelligent actress.

Thought she would be at least 5ft8 looking at her in Last Tango In Halifax with her frame etc maybe it can make her appear taller than she is plus she is wearing high heels so It can be tougher to gauge I guess.

I thought she might have been a little taller, perhaps 5ft8.5. This woman is my favourite actress to have carved herself a career since leaving 'Coronation Street'. Her performance in 'Happy Valley' was just so outstanding; I laughed with her, cried with her and felt her pain. She is such a treasure and should be knighted for her contribution to TV drama! Sarah, I love you!

She has also been described as 5' 8" and 172 cm. She looks nearer 5' 8" to me.
