I did have one problem playing Einstein. Everyone was afraid I was too tall. I was going to walk along all stooped over. But then I met Tim Robbins, who's about 6 foot 5 and next to him I looked like a midget.

Maybe Tim Robbins is just a guy who can pass for 6’5” or taller like Kobe, but really is 6’4.75”. One thing I’m sure of, he is definitely taller than 6’4.5”.

Depends on the region of LA though. West LA is overpriced and the people seem pretentious (not all of course), the downtown area has a major homelessness issue, so crime is obviously gonna be high, and East LA have a lot of ghetto and poor areas, although the people are friendlier. I live in the southern part of LA county, sandwiched between South Central and the Gateway cities, and it's decent.

@Arch Stanton:
I lived in LA my entire life, except for the past 9 or so months due to work, and while I don’t consider it a horrible place to live I would much prefer living in a nicer quieter place. Homelessness has been a growing issue here sadly, but there is still hope. It also seems many of the college kids there don’t seem to care to much about COVID restrictions, but I guess that is a bit of a generalization. I think Philadelphia is a much nicer place to live IMO, since I stayed there a couple years.

I also love the Shawshank Redemption Arch! When I first saw it my jaw fell to the floor and stayed there for the entire last hour! Tim looked even taller than 6’5” there. Whether he is a fraction under is very debatable however since he did claim it, but from pictures I would have never guessed it.
Arch Stanton said on 26/Dec/20
Agreed Vincent. I always cringe when I see some of the Oscar/Golden Globe speeches. I'm not interested in hearing their views on politics! It's a film ceremony!

I must admit my perception of California/Hollywood is the worst it's ever been right now. It's terribly overcrowded with homeless people on the sidewalks everywhere, I absolutely loved California when I visited back in the late 90s and would have loved to have lived there, particularly in the Carmel/Monterey area Eastwood lives in, but when you keep hearing stories of big fires and tramps and COVID spreading and boarded up shops, it tarnishes your view of it. There's currently an exodus out of CA, some going to Texas like Rogan and Musk. LA right now seems like a crazy place to be, with an incompetent governor.

I haven't been watching many films of late but I'll have to see Shawshank Redemption again soon, everytime I watch it as it unfolds I keep saying to myself, "this has to be close to the best film of all time!" Tim didn't look under 6'5 in that..
Andrea said on 25/Dec/20
Unless he purposefully downplayed his height by half an inch (which makes little sense), the full 6'5 is unlikely. My guess still is that he may have measured somewhere between 6'4.5 and 6'5 and simply decided to round down to 6'4.5 rather than up to 6'5... 6'4.75 is a good enough listing for him.
Vincent Caleb said on 25/Dec/20
Im thinking he could be 194 com today. Still holds up well next to Freeman in recent pictures.

@Vincent: Robbins and Kobe may have been your height in their primes. If anything VV would’ve been a hair taller than them imho

6’5” flat would be better but not over it. He’s shorter than Howard Stern and a current James Cromwell, who’s under 6’6” nowadays.

@Arch Stanton:
Tbh, who cares what some celebrities political opinions are anyways? It’s not like because they are an actor that makes whatever they say important. Their politics mean as much to me as my plumber’s political views. It’s fine for everybody to have an opinion, but pretending to be someone else on camera doesn’t make your opinion more valuable than anyone else’s. Rappaport is a great example of this.

Tim could be the full 6’5” peak, or at worst Kobe’s height of 6’4.8”. Still have him at 6’5”.
Canson said on 19/Dec/20

Tim's pretty normal for Hollywood nowadays, Michael Rappaport is more far left, scary guy.
In the early 90s in particular I thought Robbins could often pass for 6'5 and change, always loomed above everybody in his films. In the above photo he looks a good 6'6 in those boots.
Vincent Caleb said on 7/Dec/20

Not a big fan of Robbins' political views(or his ex-girlfriend Susan Sarandon either) but he is a very tall guy. Okay actor. Wouldn't rule out a strong 6'6 either but a strong 6'5" solidly.

What does his political views have to do with his height or acting skills? He is not 6’6”, possibly 6’5” or 195 cm at worst. He is a great actor, an Oscar winner, and he is in one of the highest rated movies of all time. His talent and his height should not be determined by his political views, nor does this have to do with anything mentioned on this page.

Just watched 'High Fidelity'(2000), and I can honestly say Tim Robbins had about 4 inches over John Cusack easily in their scene together. Usually, Cusack is listed as 6ft2, however, he looked only 6'-6'1" next to Robbins. Most 6'2 guys don't look small next to 6ft5ers. Cusack was dwarfed.

Its funny with Cleese, being seen so often besides the also very tall Graham Chapman he looked tall but not exceptionally so. Then you seem him near Kevin Kline and even John Lithgow and Stephen Fry and realize he's even taller than anticipated. Cleese would've definitely had some height at peak IMO on the likes of Vaughn, Robbins and Christopher Lee.

If you think Vince Vaughn is a full 6-5 then watch last world or look at him with Strahan. I also find it unlikely he has lost 3/4 of an inch already At barely 50, he looks 194 at best current and 195 prime. Robbins just gave of a taller impression physically. He is similar to Kobe in the fact that he claims 6-4.5, yet he can easily look 6-5. I think Kobe’s eye level was a big help with that though. Robbins doesn’t have a high eye level, so he might have edged Kobe. 6-4.75 for Bryant and 6-5 for Robbins.
Tall Sam said on 30/Oct/20
I would tend to agree that Vaughn being listed as taller than Robbins doesn't seem right. I certainly wouldn't rule out a solid 6'5" for Robbins. You could argue he looked right around an inch shorter than 6'6" James Cromwell but not sure if Cromwell had lost anything when they were photographed together.
Canson said on 30/Oct/20
@Vincent: I think strong 6’5 out of bed but very strong 6’5 (6’5.25-.5) and weak 6’5 at a low 6’4.5-.75 for him
Vincent Caleb said on 29/Oct/20
@Editor Rob: Do you think Robbins was the full 6-5 when he was younger? IMHO the only reason 6-4.75 is popular for him is his claim. Darius Campbell also claimed to be 6-2 when he often looks 194 rather than 188cm. Gary Cooper claimed to be 6-2 despite being 6-3. Kevin Durant claimed 6-7 one time(he might have been joking, but still). I think actors claims should be taken with a grain of salt, whether it is lower or higher than what they look. Why does it mean they are being honest if it is lower than what they usually look? It is possible he was not measured correctly also, since I personally have been measured incorrectly as an inch higher than I am. There are so many possible variables that only pictures and measurements from professional sports should be taken with great consideration. Finally, why does Tim Robbins claim mean any more than the Rock’s claim? This listing isn’t a bad listing by any means, but I am interested to know what you think about all of that.
Editor Rob
4.75 is probably the lowest I'd go, so 6ft 5 is arguable.
Vincent Caleb said on 29/Oct/20
@Tall Sam:
Vince Vaughn at 6-4.75 sounds good, but I still think Robbins next to D’Onofrio is pretty dang close to 6-5. In the entirety of Shawshank he looked a comfortable 6-5. In this pic next to 6-1.5 listed, but 6-1 flat imo Bob Gunton he can easily pass for over 6-5 Click Here.
Also in this scene at around 1:56 he looks 2 inches taller than solid 6-3 Clancy brown Click Here
Lastly, with Sean penn he is an easy 6-5
I think CMills is right on this one, but I respect your opinion as well as Canson’s. Probably a weak 6-6 out of bed and drops 3/4 of an inch to 6-5 afternoon.
Tall Sam said on 29/Oct/20
Its true Vaughn looked scarcely taller than Goldblum in The Lost World, pretty close to the same height really. However, in premiere shots Vaughn does look a little taller relative to Goldblum than in the film. Footwear could be making the difference.
Also, in The Player, Tim Robbins faces off against Vincent D'Onofrio at his 6'3.5" listed peak. When Vincent is standing better in part of the scene (he also leans forward a bit), the difference looks not much over an inch.
Canson said on 28/Oct/20
@Vincent: yea 195 is the most I can see for Robbins in his prime
Vincent Caleb said on 28/Oct/20
@Tall Sam:
Vince Vaughn could barely look a centimeter taller than Goldblum at times. His peak is probably 195 cm. On the other hand, Tim Robbins could look 3 inches over a strong 6-2 Morgan Freeman. His proportions may be confusing me, but the average vote also agrees with me. Only true evidence of a sub 6-5 Robbins is his claim, which could have been a faulty measurement. My guess is full 6-5 for Robbins.

Tall Sam said on 21/Oct/20
I do think the current 6'4.75" listing is fairly legit for Robbins but people can seem to view as looking (if not actually measuring) nearly as much as 6'6" which is way too much even for his peak morning height. I think his build, both slender and slightly boxy, can give a super lanky impression.
Alex V. 5'10'' said on 21/Oct/20

If you see him near Howard Stern, his being a weak 6'5" rather than anything over it is likely. You could argue that Robbins is sometimes more slouched and may have even lost more height (despite being 4 years younger), but Stern looked 0.5-0.75 taller than Robbins.
Canson said on 18/Oct/20
@Cmillz: I doubt either guy was 196 in their prime but if anything I would give Robbins 195 and Vaughn 196. I would go with the following:

Vaughn 195-195.5 tops
Robbins 194-195 range
cmillz said on 16/Oct/20
honestly he could pass for 6’6 at times, even in Shawshank he could look 3.5 inches taller than Freeman, and even near 5 inches taller than Gunton. @Hyper: I could say 6’4.5 and 6’4.75 or 6’4 5/8 and 6’4 3/4 for Robbins and Vaughn respectively. Vaughn at 6’5 wouldn’t surprise me in his prime but I would give him 6’4.75 more than likely. He would be 6’5.5 out of bed in that case. Robbins I would say was maybe within 1/4”

So you’re denying the fact that Cromwell has clear camera advantage over Robbins, which is exaggerating the difference between them. Arch Stanton said on 2/Aug/20
Now a guy like Robbins CLEARLY looks roughly a legit 6 ft 5 in photos and on screen. Yet I keep seeing 6 ft 4 or 5 listings for a lot of newer actors and some of them look nowhere near as tall as him proportionally in photos!
Canson said on 1/Aug/20
@Cmillz: Disagree. Bobby’s is at least respectable for a current estimate as Robbins May be closer to 6’4” today. But 6’7” is plain ridiculous after the man claimed 6’5 and 6’4.5 and he was shorter than Stern
Cath said on 29/Jul/20
Rob,

Do you think it's time to give Robbins the full 6'5?
Editor Rob
Many would argue he is that mark and the time he claimed 6ft 4.5 was a round down.

Bobbyh’s 6’3.75 estimate for Robbins is as ridiculous as Danimal’s 6’7 estimate tbh.

I think the difference could be 9-10 inches between Robbins and Newman, in person (on stage) I thought Newman in old age still looked about 5'8". I think with Sidney Poitier when they were both young, Newman could look to be at most a weak 5'9".
Hong said on 15/Jun/20

One thing is for sure... Robbins is taller than D'Onofrio even with the cowboys boots... 197cm for Robbins, 194-195cm for D'Onofrio.

Plus, the mugshot scene, Tim is indeed the 6'5.5" in flat shoes...

Tim Robbins: 196cm morning, 195cm regular, 194cm afternoon;

D'Onofrio: 193cm morning, 192cm regular, 191cm afternoon.

D'onofrio at 6ft3.5 + cowboy boots=around 6ft4.75 depending on how high the heel.If for argument sake D'onofrio was 6ft4.75 including the boots, that would mean that given Robbins is wearing a dress shoe of about an inch, and Robbins looks close to 2 inches taller, that would put Robbins at a bit over 6ft5 in comparison,if both guys were barefoot.I Know you can't see their footwear in the pic but if you see the movie you can.

cmillz said on 4/Jun/20
@Christian
Doesn’t it seem like Robbins would measure taller on a stadiometer? Even now, he seems to give off a more towering presence than Vaughn when standing around others, and he honestly just looks taller too. Robbins is a strange one for sure, it’s hard to see him at only 6’4.5” in the 90s.

Canson said on 23/May/20
@Dguit and Cmillz: the highest I can buy for him assuming we are talking afternoon heights is what Rob lists him here. I doubt he’s as high as 6’5” flat at that stage. Now 6’5.5 out of bed is possible but my best guess is 6’5.25-.5 out of bed and 6’4.5-.75 range afternoon. Vaughn May be much of the same 195cm max in his prime not 6’5”. A real 6’5” prime was Peter Hermann, John Cleese, Tiny Lister, or Hulk Hogan who I thought may have even been a hair over but with Sid’s admission he was only 6’6” peak im hard pressed for over 6’5” for Hogan now.
OriginalAnon said on 23/May/20
I always thought that this guy was at least 6'5''.

Rob, you have Jeff Bridges listed at 184cm currently and almost 187cm peak. Have you seen Arlington Road? In that film Tim Robbins absolutely towered over Jeff Bridges. Although it is one of my favourite films, I can't remember if there were many instances where you could see the guys without angles playing their part. If a person did not have a clue about either height of each man, one could quite easily think that Jeff Bridges was a 5'11'' guy, or something, due to Robbins making him look so small. There can't have only been a 3 inch difference there.

If you have not seen the film, I'd highly recommend it.
Editor Rob
Yes I've seen and would recommend the film, it did look near 4 inches at times.

Alex V. said on 5/May/20
Hi there,

Sometimes pictures can't help, maybe is something to do with angles, slouching, light and so on...

A friend of mine is like 2cm shorter than me, I am 5'10,5'', however we took a photo where the difference seems to be like 5cm which is not the truth.

Plus, another fellow that I know is always slouching and seems to be a 6'3'' guy but as soon as he brings his real height, 196cm; with footwear and measured by us, was 1cm less than the door frame here in Portugal, (they are more or less 200cm).

In my IMO the best option to know someone's height is through the height scale, or MAYBE seeing the person in "flesh".

Otherwise, just guesses.

Hey cmillz...

Of course, I could be wrong, it's just my opinion... But like some other people said, there are people that can give a taller impression than others of the same size. When I saw the IQ movie for instance, Robbins appeared to be much taller than Fry however there is a scene where they look the same size but if I had to choose, Robbins would be the tallest...same goes for Vaughn, Neeson and Goldblum, for me they look the same height. Plus, in the Taken movie if you see close at the beginning when Neeson and Hertzberg are talking to each other, Liam leaning seemed to be as tall as George. I give my opinion after I look carefully but that doesn't mean that I'm right, just my opinion.

Cheers mate...

Even 6-6 is a stretch but he can give off a near impression of that a bit.

Danimal is usually fairly accurate.

I agree with some of Danimal’s estimates such as Michael Jordan, Rock and Will Smith but vehemently disagree with his estimates for Robbins Barkley and Conan. Robbins himself claimed 6’4.5. Maybe he was 6’4.75 but that’s still closer than him being 6’7 or 6’6. And with Conan since he “said he’s 6’4-6’4.5” which is unbelievable, he is accurate. Conan was never officially measured but Barkley was at 6’4 5/8 yet he is 6’5 1/2 according to him and downplays his height.

I just don't see much evidence for 6-7.

Even 6-6 is a stretch but he can give off a near impression of that a bit.

Danimal is usually fairly accurate.
Canson said on 29/Dec/19
At best Stern strong 6’5 peak Robbins weak 6’5”

I’d say Robbins 194-195 and Stern 196-196.5 range
Alex V. said on 29/Dec/19
Hi, Tim has a larger head and Howard that immense hair, put them eye to eye and won't be any difference, IMO.

Regards, Happy New Year.
Canson said on 28/Dec/19
@Dream: Stern is def taller. At best Stern was maybe 6’5.25 or 3/8 peak height
Canson said on 28/Dec/19
@Dream: Rob’s listing isn’t bad for him. He’s likely 6’4.5 afternoon but I don’t rule out 6’4 5/8” so this could be his lunchtime or tea time listing if he falls just 1/8” more. Me personally, I think 6’5.25 to 3/8 out of bed 6’4.5 to 5/8” afternoon height and he looks to have shrunken today. His prime would be about the same as Michael Jordan’s
Dream said on 27/Dec/19
He looks shorter than Howard Stern.

And people have said Howard Stern is a legit 6’5” guy, in person.

Looks 6'5 next to Will Ferrell, Howard Stern, and James Cromwell
cmillz said on 30/Nov/19
I really do think he may have been the full 6’5 peak. 6’4.5 just seems too low, especially for a normal low. That would mean he’d be like 194cm flat an extreme low, which I honestly can’t see.
Canson said on 25/Nov/19
@Rob: he is disadvantaged but still clearly shorter than him. Robbins May really have been 6’4.5” peak but 6’4.5 for him is an afternoon height or something like 6’4 5/8 or 2/3” rounded down
cmillz said on 25/Nov/19
@Danimal
Lol, 6’7 is a joke. I can see how he may have given off a near 6’6 impression at times, but 6’7???

also, that’s not even a good picture for comparison. The most I can buy for him peak is 196cm
Canson said on 24/Nov/19
Here he is with an aged James Cromwell who Rob lists 6’5.5”. It’s possible Robbins has lose some height today but peak he could look 6’4.5 or up to 6’5 at times. Rob’s listing is decent maybe not a low

Robbins is at a little disadvantage there, I think Cromwell at times has looked anywhere in 6ft 5-6 range last few years, Robbins can still at times seem very near 6ft 5 with people, though I would expect he's also at an age that a fraction might be lost.

Here he is recently with 6'1 3/4" Morgan Freeman: Click Here

Sorry, but that's more than 3". Tim was 6'7" in his prime and about 6'6" today.

Danimal, why would other actors say he’s 6’5? And why would he claim 6’4.5 and 6’5? Better question how is he shorter than a true 6’5 range guy like Howard Stern? Robbins is not as tall as a guy like Reid Carolin. More Joe Mangianello’s height

Judging by the pics of both guys they’re almost the same height.

If anything, I figure Robbins truly is 6-5, and not 6-4.5. He looks it in pictures next to most people. I think he is taller then Vince Vaughn, who is more like 6-4 to 6-4.5 to me.

[Editor Rob: maybe he and hasselhoff got themselves measured with 'bad posture'...and so say 6ft 4]

You have to admit I've been consistent

Lol Viper you’re being a downgrader!!!!!

You guessed Robbins higher than I did actually. I have him 6’4.5 peak maybe 6’4 5/8”. Similar with Jordan. VV would prob be similar peak imho. Today VV May be my size 6’4.25
Canson said on 14/Nov/19

You were arguing 6ft5 for the Hoff in 2005?
Frank R said on 13/Nov/19
Tim Robbins was a solid 6'5" (peak). He's one of the numerous 'Top Gun' cast members who made Tom Cruise look tiny.

I would love to see Robbins and Vince Vaughn together in a picture. I bet Tim would be an inch taller.
viper said on 13/Nov/19
I don't know why Danimal ever thought he was 6-7.

6-6 I can see but not 6-7
Canson said on 12/Nov/19
@Viper: that could be his normal low. He looked close to an inch shorter than Stern.
viper said on 11/Nov/19
I think the 6-4.5 is an extreme low for him.
Yang (5 footer 8, 173) said on 7/Nov/19
His height is very similar to two twin actors from Property Brothers. Both are much taller than average men at least... doesnt seem like he has lost any heights from 2003 or so unlike many actors in his age.... He can even make Morgan Freeman look like waif when he stood next to him... 6ft 4 half and 6ft 4 3/4 range? Yes yes yes...
Alex V. said on 30/Oct/19
Hi everyone, can't see Tim shorter than Howard, same height for me... One picture doesn't mean accuracy.
Canson said on 27/Oct/19
@Cmillz: he can at times but he’s still shorter than Stern. I believe his 6’4.5 claim
cmillz said on 26/Oct/19

Weak 6’5”. Not as tall as Howard Stern
