Definitely more likely over 195cm than under, 6'5 for a peak Tim Robbins!

Hi Rob. A bit off-topic. In your opinion, what is the ideal lift height without looking unnaturally taller?
For context, my latest measurement was 5'7.5 taken in the hospital at around noon.
Thanks in advance. I love your content.
Editor Rob
Lift height? I think you can use short or average legs to an advantage and get 2 inches worth of lifts without people thinking 'This guy's packing'.
Of course when you start to walk about, opinion might change. I always remember seeing the actor James Kyson Lee trying to walk in elevator boots and even Jenny knew he had an unnatural stride.
If you have long legs to begin with and try packing 2 inchers, then the proportional difference between leg length and torso might catch a lot more gazes from people...
Arch Stanton said on 9/Sep/23
He could really look 6'5.5 if anything in some of his early 90s films like The Player and Bob Roberts I thought. 6'4.5 was probably a very relaxed measurement at the end of a long day...

Tim Robbins is absolutely 6'5", unless he suddenly shrunk since I last saw him before the Pandemic (doubt it). Go to the Actor's Gang in Culver City and see a show and you're likely to see him and judge for yourself.

Andrea said on 17/Jul/22
Andrey, I'm open to anything, but for me the most logical thing is that he was just being (very) honest. If he wanted to downplay his height, it would have made much more sense to come out with something like 6'4, instead of specific claims such as 6'4.5 or 6'5 on a good day (which, btw, perfectly fit with each other).
I know he has also claimed 6'5, but it's perfectly understandable (and still honest in fact) that a guy who is a bit under a mark will eventually round up.
And yes, I'm the first to say that he could even seem over 6'5 compared to some actors, but that's because they're probably overlisted, like Clancy Brown in fact.
Tall Sam said on 16/Jul/22
It would be an interesting comparison with peak Jordan and Robbins, you may have been able to lay a book across their heads and it’d be even. It’s funny that we think of Robbins as huge in the world of actors while Jordan was merely under average height wise in the world of basketball.
Canson said on 16/Jul/22
@Mickie: one of the issues is that you get some strong 6’4 guys that are listed here at 6’4.75 when they’re 6’4.25-.5 or some that may claim 6’5 which makes his claim look less believable. I agree with Vincent Caleb that he can look 6’5” though but 6’4.75 and 6’5 aren’t much different. And in his case maybe 6’4.5 is his extreme low and maybe he measures 6’4.75 or maybe it was 6’4 5/8 at an extreme low and maybe he’s really 6’4 7/8 which makes him effectively 6’5 esp at lunchtime
Mickie said on 15/Jul/22
He's claimed both 6'4.5" and 6'5" - I wouldn't argue above or below either mark so 6'4.75" is probably the best listing. I'd like to see how he would compare to Michael Jordan.

What I'm saying is that Tim probably knows it better... Both his claims suggest he was under 6'5, so unless he was mismeasured or something, I don't see how he could have been the full 6'5. I mean, what's the point of claiming 6'4.5 or even 6'5 on a good day, if he actually was 6'5? Another story would be if say he listed himself at 6'4 on his resume, in that case it still makes sense to say he was taller than that as it's a known fact that very tall actors sometimes downplay their height, but his claims are pretty specific. Sure, if it wasn't for them, I probably wouldn't argue against a 6'5 listing, as I agree that he could certainly pass for that, but any 6'4.5-6'4.75 guy can.
People have their own logic for claiming the heights they do. Maybe he was downplaying, maybe it was a measurement from younger days and he grew and hadn't measured in a while. As for weak 6'5 range actors looking 6'5 - possible, but I wouldn't apply it to Robbins as he never looked under 6'5 with actors whose heights we can certify (Morgan Freeman, Clancy Brown, Vincent D'Onofrio, Sean Penn, etc).
He has also claimed 6'5 - such as in
Click Here. He specifically corrects Conan who mistakenly calls Robbins 6'4.
Editor Rob
I think Robbins at some stage did get a sub 6ft 5 measurement, but then maybe on another day he could have gotten 6ft 5...
Before Big Lewis had his official CelebHeights measurement, he was telling people he was 6ft 2.
Now that he got 6ft 2.75, he's claiming almost 6ft 3...

@Andrey: yea on film he could pull off a solid 6’5”. However, just in the flesh, I wouldn’t have thought him to be much taller than Christopher Lee who’s listed 6’4.5” here on the site. Lee has long proportions as well which is, in part, why Rob listed him at 6’4.5 as opposed to his 6’4 claim. The other part of it is that he appeared over 6’4” flat next to other actors on screen

While you could argue that 6'4.5 was a modest claim, I don't see how he could have been the full 6'5 (or even over) when he also claimed to be 6'5 on a good day. Well, unless he was mismeasured, which again could be said for everyone...
6'4.5-6'4.75 I think is fine for a peak Tim, a very tall height which can easily pass for 6'5.
How tall someone looks is a better tell than their claim - consider how many people inflate their height. Robbins didn't look below 6'5 peak.

Rob, how tall do you think Tim looks with Bob Gunton in The Shawshank Redemption? Gunton was 48-49 in that film, so probably hadn’t lost much height if any. To be safe we can say he was 6’1 range, and Tim looks at least 4.5 inches taller. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Gunton had a slight shoe advantage because the film makes a point about the warden’s shoes being well kept while the prisoners’ aren’t. Robbins also frequently lost some height in posture yet still towered nearly everyone. I will not argue him to have been closer to 6’6 range, but 195 seems too low.

If you look at photos of him from 94’, you can clearly see he has about 3 inches on Morgan Freeman, who I don’t think anybody debates is a solid 6’2”. He also held up very well with 6’3” Clancy brown, looking a solid 2 inches taller.
I think the best evidence for a 6’5+ Tim Robbins is actually him with Bob Gunton who is listed 6’1.5” peak here. Here’s a picture of the two on an even level (although we can’t see the footwear, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Tim didn’t have any elevator shoes on)

A scene from The Shawshank Redemption with Tim Robbins and Clancy Brown. I don't think anyone here disagrees that Brown was a strong 6'3" then, and that's noticeably more than a 1.25" and even 1.5" difference. Looks more like 2". Rob, if Tim didn't say he was only 6'4.5 would you have had him anything under 6'5?. I thought he was like 6'6 or 6'7 in shawshank, even honest trailers points out his "NBA level height". Maybe he doesn't seem that tall in other films but I only know him from shawshank. Can't see him under 6'5 at all.
Editor Rob
for a period at the beginning I did give him 6ft 5. I think he could have lost a fraction (1/4 inch) by now.

A big dude! Not someone you'd expect to be that tall. I always thought he was in the 5'10-6'0 range but never 6'5!! He made Morgan Freeman look small in Shawshank.
Tim gets the full 6'5. Where as someone like an Armie Hammer is definitely 6'4 but claims a 6'5 shoe height.

Yao is 7-8 wasn’t a a bad guy either, I made the comparison because they both used the worst cherry picked photos for evidence. There is like a single time where Robbins has looked 6’4” or under and that is what he is basing all of his evidence off of. If anything Yao is 7-8 was unintentionally the funniest poster here. Dude was quite the character.

Sorry but random photos where you can't see the ground etc are not proof that someone is taller or not. I've seen a lot of Robbins films and honestly could believe 6'6+. He towered Freeman and made Sean Penn seem tiny.
Vincent Caleb said on 19/Feb/21
The Cromwell picture isn’t a poor picture though, although Cromwell is slightly closer to the camera. Not sure if Stern has lost any height from his peak.

@Hyper:
I have to disagree. Vaughn did not hold his own with his own. I tend to agree with a lot of your estimates, but I have to say that Vince Vaughn pic with Lebron James is not a picture we should be using to judge height.
@Canson:
I don’t see any evidence pointing towards a 2 cm difference between Robbins and Stern. Really just not a great picture. With Martin Lawrence he looked 6’5” as well. Look at this funny clip from their movie together:
Click Here
At around the 12-17 second mark you can see there is quite a large difference between the two. Certainly no less than 10 inches. Tim also looked an easy 6’5” with Sean Penn. I am going to say worst case is 6’4.75”, but I really do struggle to see him at that. He really does pass for much over 6’5” sometimes. Because of that, I am going to stick to 6’5” for now.
Canson said on 17/Feb/21
@Vinderter and CMillz: it’s not the best (the pic with Stern and Robbins) but Stern is still taller. Of course it’s not 1.5”‘like one person said here. It’s probably around 2cm difference at most. Robbins also didn’t quite look 6’5 with Martin Lawrence either. But he doesn’t look far off it. Maybe 6’4.5” worst case but it could be argued he’s the listed height here being there’s only 1/4” difference between 6’5 and 6’4.75”
vinderter said on 16/Feb/21
The Stern photo is definitely not on even ground.

@Cmillz: in his prime Vaughn was taller than Goldblum. He’s lost height today. I’m not sure Robbins would be taller than him. They look pretty similar and Robbins has claimed 6’4.5”. Next to Stern, Robbins surely wasn’t 6’5”. If anything, I see considering camera etc is 3/4” or 2cm. If we have Stern at 6’5.25 then the weak 6’5 fits 6’4.5” or so

Lol, Vaughn looked the same height as Goldblum and Strahan, and you’re telling me he gives off a more legit 6’5 impression than Robbins? Okay...
Canson said on 14/Feb/21
@Vincent: I tend to agree with 6’4.5-.75 peak (weak 6’5”)
Vincent Caleb said on 13/Feb/21
Vaughn was barely taller than Goldblum. At most a centimeter. He also struggles with over 6’4” recently with Brett Favre. When he met affleck, he also didn’t give near a 6’5” impression. I’m not saying it’s impossible he is 6’5”, but I’m inclined to believe he was 6’4.75” at most. I just haven’t seen Robbins look under 6’5” as much, especially at his peak. 6’4.75” is the absolute least I would say for Robbins, and if he hadn’t claimed 6’4.5”, under 6’5” wouldn’t have crossed my mind.
Canson said on 12/Feb/21
@Cmillz: maybe a bit over 3”. He could look 6’5.5 possibly or 6’5” in the oic but I doubt over. The “near” can mean over or under imho. My guess is that he’s around his listed height though. Now 6’5 is possible but at a stretch. I would’ve had Vaughn as a legit 6’5” before Robbins. Vaughn looks it more imho
Vincent Caleb said on 12/Feb/21

But both of them are easily over 6’5”. I want to see him get beat out by a 6’5” flat guy. I just do not believe 6’4.5”. The pictures where Cromwell edged him out, Robbins was also further from the camera. The Howard Stern Picture is also not the best for judging height at all.

John Cusack is 6’2” and Robbins legitimately looks a solid 3.5 inches taller there. Cusack is an even more solid 6’2” than Reynolds. I’m not saying Robbins is 6’5.5”, but he does look it in the clip.

Depends on the region of LA though. West LA is overpriced and the people seem pretentious (not all of course), the downtown area has a major homelessness issue, so crime is obviously gonna be high, and East LA have a lot of ghetto and poor areas, although the people are friendlier. I live in the southern part of LA county, sandwiched between South Central and the Gateway cities, and it's decent.

I lived in LA my entire life, except for the past 9 or so months due to work, and while I don’t consider it a horrible place to live I would much prefer living in a nicer quieter place. Homelessness has been a growing issue here sadly, but there is still hope. It also seems many of the college kids there don’t seem to care to much about COVID restrictions, but I guess that is a bit of a generalization. I think Philadelphia is a much nicer place to live IMO, since I stayed there a couple years.
I also love the Shawshank Redemption Arch! When I first saw it my jaw fell to the floor and stayed there for the entire last hour! Tim looked even taller than 6’5” there. Whether he is a fraction under is very debatable however since he did claim it, but from pictures I would have never guessed it.
Arch Stanton said on 26/Dec/20
Agreed Vincent. I always cringe when I see some of the Oscar/Golden Globe speeches. I'm not interested in hearing their views on politics! It's a film ceremony!
I must admit my perception of California/Hollywood is the worst it's ever been right now. It's terribly overcrowded with homeless people on the sidewalks everywhere, I absolutely loved California when I visited back in the late 90s and would have loved to have lived there, particularly in the Carmel/Monterey area Eastwood lives in, but when you keep hearing stories of big fires and tramps and COVID spreading and boarded up shops, it tarnishes your view of it. There's currently an exodus out of CA, some going to Texas like Rogan and Musk. LA right now seems like a crazy place to be, with an incompetent governor.
I haven't been watching many films of late but I'll have to see Shawshank Redemption again soon, everytime I watch it as it unfolds I keep saying to myself, "this has to be close to the best film of all time!" Tim didn't look under 6'5 in that..
Andrea said on 25/Dec/20
Unless he purposefully downplayed his height by half an inch (which makes little sense), the full 6'5 is unlikely. My guess still is that he may have measured somewhere between 6'4.5 and 6'5 and simply decided to round down to 6'4.5 rather than up to 6'5... 6'4.75 is a good enough listing for him.

Tbh, who cares what some celebrities political opinions are anyways? It’s not like because they are an actor that makes whatever they say important. Their politics mean as much to me as my plumber’s political views. It’s fine for everybody to have an opinion, but pretending to be someone else on camera doesn’t make your opinion more valuable than anyone else’s. Rappaport is a great example of this.
Tim could be the full 6’5” peak, or at worst Kobe’s height of 6’4.8”. Still have him at 6’5”.

If you think Vince Vaughn is a full 6-5 then watch last world or look at him with Strahan. I also find it unlikely he has lost 3/4 of an inch already At barely 50, he looks 194 at best current and 195 prime. Robbins just gave of a taller impression physically. He is similar to Kobe in the fact that he claims 6-4.5, yet he can easily look 6-5. I think Kobe’s eye level was a big help with that though. Robbins doesn’t have a high eye level, so he might have edged Kobe. 6-4.75 for Bryant and 6-5 for Robbins.
Tall Sam said on 30/Oct/20
I would tend to agree that Vaughn being listed as taller than Robbins doesn't seem right. I certainly wouldn't rule out a solid 6'5" for Robbins. Kevin Durant claimed 6-7 one time(he might have been joking, but still). I think actors claims should be taken with a grain of salt, whether it is lower or higher than what they look. Why does it mean they are being honest if it is lower than what they usually look? It is possible he was not measured correctly also, since I personally have been measured incorrectly as an inch higher than I am. There are so many possible variables that only pictures and measurements from professional sports should be taken with great consideration. Finally, why does Tim Robbins claim mean any more than the Rock’s claim? This listing isn’t a bad listing by any means, but I am interested to know what you think about all of that.
Editor Rob
4.75 is probably the lowest I'd go, so 6ft 5 is arguable.

@Tall Sam:
Vince Vaughn at 6-4.75 sounds good, but I still think Robbins next to D’Onofrio is pretty dang close to 6-5. In the entirety of Shawshank he looked a comfortable 6-5. In this pic next to 6-1.5 listed, but 6-1 flat imo Bob Gunton he can easily pass for over 6-5
Click Here.
Also in this scene at around 1:56 he looks 2 inches taller than solid 6-3 Clancy brown
Click Here
Lastly, with Sean penn he is an easy 6-5
Click Here
I think CMills is right on this one, but I respect your opinion as well as Canson’s. Probably a weak 6-6 out of bed and drops 3/4 of an inch to 6-5 afternoon.
Tall Sam said on 29/Oct/20
Its true Vaughn looked scarcely taller than Goldblum in The Lost World, pretty close to the same height really. However, in premiere shots Vaughn does look a little taller relative to Goldblum than in the film. Footwear could be making the difference.

Also, in The Player, Tim Robbins faces off against Vincent D'Onofrio at his 6'3.5" listed peak. When Vincent is standing better in part of the scene (he also leans forward a bit), the difference looks not much over an inch.
Canson said on 28/Oct/20
@Vincent: yea 195 is the most I can see for Robbins in his prime
Vincent Caleb said on 28/Oct/20
@Tall Sam:
Vince Vaughn could barely look a centimeter taller than Goldblum at times. His peak is probably 195 cm. On the other hand, Tim Robbins could look 3 inches over a strong 6-2 Morgan Freeman. His proportions may be confusing me, but the average vote also agrees with me. Only true evidence of a sub 6-5 Robbins is his claim, which could have been a faulty measurement. My guess is full 6-5 for Robbins.
Tall Sam said on 26/Oct/20
@Canson, yes I think you're right. I think at peak he'd be hard to sort out from Vince Vaughn as well.
Vincent Caleb said on 25/Oct/20
I think his peak was taller than Vince Vaughn. 6’5” flat
Canson said on 24/Oct/20
@Alex V: I think he was either saying he’s 6’4.5 or somewhere around it. Maybe a bit over or under. But I think he was telling the truth there
Canson said on 24/Oct/20
@Tall Sam: I could see him being your height in his prime 6’5.5 out of bed and 6’4.75 in the afternoon or 1/4” less than you at 6’5.25/6’4.5
Tall Sam said on 21/Oct/20
I do think the current 6'4.75" listing is fairly legit for Robbins but people can seem to view as looking (if not actually measuring) nearly as much as 6'6" which is way too much even for his peak morning height. I think his build, both slender and slightly boxy, can give a super lanky impression.
Alex V. 5'10'' said on 21/Oct/20
"Six foot four and a half" and "6'5'' on a good day", came from Tim's own mouth; so, regular 195cm, 194cm at worst and 196cm AT THE MOST.
recapa said on 19/Oct/20
195cm exactl1y or slightly under it
Canson said on 19/Oct/20
@Tall Sam: I think in his prime he could’ve been what he claimed. 6’4.5”. Best case maybe he was this listing or 1/8” less than this at his low during the day. I would give Vaughn the more I see 195-195.5. I think Vaughn would end up your height
viper said on 18/Oct/20
Vaughn has never looked as physically tall as Robbins in movies imo
Tall Sam said on 18/Oct/20
If you see him near Howard Stern, his being a weak 6'5" rather than anything over it is likely. You could argue that Robbins is sometimes more slouched and may have even lost more height (despite being 4 years younger), but Stern looked 0.5-0.75 taller than Robbins.
Canson said on 18/Oct/20
@Cmillz: I doubt either guy was 196 in their prime but if anything I would give Robbins 195 and Vaughn 196. I would go with the following:
Vaughn 195-195.5 tops
Robbins 194-195 range
cmillz said on 16/Oct/20
honestly he could pass for 6’6 at times, even in Shawshank he could look 3.5 inches taller than Freeman, and even near 5 inches taller than Gunton. Can’t recall Vince ever giving off such a towering impression, especially when he barely looked taller than Goldblum in The Lost World, and surprisingly looked just about the same height as Strahan.
I’d say Vaughn was 195cm at peak, while Robbins was 196cm.
James B 172c, said on 16/Oct/20
Yes Canson I think with goldblum Vince didn’t look over 6’4.75
Canson said on 15/Oct/20
@Hyper: same here. He can pass for 6’5” just like Vaughn did. If anything Vaughn could’ve had the better chance at full 6’5” than him.
Hyper said on 14/Oct/20
@cmillz
I can see a 6’5” flat listing, at times. However, I wouldn’t argue a solid 6’6” like Moe claims.
Canson said on 14/Oct/20
@Hyper: I could say 6’4.5 and 6’4.75 or 6’4 5/8 and 6’4 3/4 for Robbins and Vaughn respectively. Vaughn at 6’5 wouldn’t surprise me in his prime but I would give him 6’4.75 more than likely. He would be 6’5.5 out of bed in that case. Robbins I would say was maybe within 1/4”
cmillz said on 13/Oct/20
Robbins may have claimed 6’4.5” before, but it doesn’t mean he measured ever that low. Bo Burnham has claimed 6’5 flat before, despite the fact that he’s very likely 6’5.5”
cmillz said on 13/Oct/20
Nah, Robbins had the edge over Vaughn.
Hyper said on 13/Oct/20
@Canson
Actually, maybe Vaughn would have an edge over Robbins. He looked significantly taller than Will Ferrell. He held up well with Kane.
I am very well fooled by Tim's lankiness.
Canson said on 12/Oct/20
I would’ve believed Vaughn to be taller if anything. Robbins claimed 6’4.5 before. Vaughn has always claimed 6’5”. Likely it’s less than 1/4” In reality if Both are rounding up or down to an extent
Tall Sam said on 10/Oct/20
He's always been a good point of reference for me how I'd look with his co-stars and others as we are similarly built and the same height.
Hyper said on 10/Oct/20
I would give him the edge over Vince Vaughn. I can see how he can look 6’5”.
However, I wouldn’t say he’s 6’6”. He’s shorter than an Old James Cromwell and Bo looked a bit taller than an Old James Cromwell.
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 10/Oct/20
@Canson
I agree, you'd probably needed to measure them down to the millimeter to see who was taller.
Canson said on 8/Oct/20
Tim Robbins has claimed 6’4.5 so I doubt he was ever a full 6’5” afternoon height. He could’ve been a weak 6’5 guy 6’4.5-.75 range who rounded down to 4.5” or perhaps rounded 3/4” down but not 6’5”. He and Vaughn would’ve been very close in height. Hard to tell who would edge the other out
Tomc said on 6/Oct/20
Rob, did Tim wear lifts in the Shawshank or camera angles? Maybe it was to make him seem above everyone in the place? At times he looks huge beside other tall actors.
Editor Rob
I can agree he didn't look seem less than 6ft 5 in that film.
berta said on 5/Oct/20
i think tim was more legit 6´5 than vincea vaughn

@cmillz
It's not like they're far away from each other. They're standing close together, without a major zooming in. It's not exactly likely, but it also looks like Cromwell is tilting his head.
If it was something like this, I can understand the 'major camera advantage.' --

So you’re denying the fact that Cromwell has clear camera advantage over Robbins, which is exaggerating the difference between them. You can’t really judge the height difference between them with just that one photo. Too many variables that can make one person look taller/shorter than they really are.
Hyper said on 16/Sep/20
@cmillz
Not really. I wouldn't do a three person, comparison since Tim Robbins and James Cromwell have met before.
Click Here
I only do comparison if they didn't meet. However, they met and an old Cromwell is clearly taller.
Alex V. (5ft10) said on 13/Sep/20
Plus, their shoulders seem to be at the same level...
cmillz said on 13/Sep/20
It’s funny though, in some pictures, Robbins looks taller standing next to Morgan Freeman than Cromwell does.
cmillz said on 12/Sep/20
@Dream
Cromwell is closer to the camera and the angle is favoring him. He probably still edged out Robbins at the time though, but not as much as what the picture is showing.
Dream said on 9/Sep/20
@cmillz
They’re close to each other. The top of their heads definitely look more than one inch.
cmillz said on 7/Sep/20
Cromwell definitely has camera advantage over Robbins though, if this is what you’re referring to.
Click Here
Like with stern, that one picture won’t show the true height difference between them.
viper said on 6/Sep/20
Under 6-5 would have never entered my mind had he never given out the 6-4.5 quote.
Dream said on 5/Sep/20
@Chad136
Tim is definitely shorter than an old and bald James Cromwell, who is in the 6’5”-6’6” range today.
And an old James Cromwell looked visibly shorter than Bo Burnham, with Nicholas Braun. Bo also claimed to be 6’5”’and 6’6” on multiple occasions.
Chad136 said on 4/Sep/20
Tim is easily over 6'5 maybe even 6'6?
Hard to take this site seriously with these inaccuracies.
Editor Rob
Tim himself said 6ft 4.5 😅 But it's true you shouldn't take height too seriously!
James B 172cm said on 1/Sep/20
Watched Shawshank Redemption tonight and I can totally believe the full 6ft5
cmillz said on 25/Aug/20
I thought he looked a bit taller in the 80s/90s than he does now. I could believe that he’s a weak 6’5 today, but certainly hard to imagine he was under 6’5 in his prime.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 21/Aug/20
I’m surprised Vince got that since he’s 12 years younger than Tim!
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 20/Aug/20
Rob, could Tim maybe get 6ft4½ today and 6ft5 peak?
Looking at him recently he doesn’t really look much different from 20-30 years ago. Usually the tallest in most photos. Maybe he hasn’t lost really anything
Editor Rob
Those figures are arguable, a bit like Vince Vaughn maybe
Chadty said on 8/Aug/20
The picture with Stern is obviously not on even ground, cause Stern would be like 6'8, I think stern and Robbins on even ground would be exactly the same. Tim 6'5 to 6'5.5
Canson said on 7/Aug/20
@Junior: he was slightly shorter than Stern so I’m not seeing the full 6’5”. Rob May have him correct but something like 6’4 5/8 may also fit him if not 6’4.5”
daveyg said on 6/Aug/20
My cousin is a legit 6"3 at least,he said he met Tim about 10 years ago and said he Tim was easy a few inches taller.
