I think many europeans who don't use the imperial measurement get a little confused and mistake 180 cm for 6'. They don't realise that 30.5cm is a foot not 30 cm. i know it isnt everyday another woman towers the lovely uma thurman but maria certainly seems to here. however upon closer inspection you can see the angle of the shot and maria's positioning favors her ALOT. if both are wearing similar footware i can buy that maria is 6'2. my guess is maria's wearing heels (as she usually does whenever she goes out) and uma is donning flats (in hollywood tall women receive some discrimination). if this was the case then i stand by my 184cm.

Orthopedic shoes would not lose heel that quickly. Besides, in actuality, shoes that are both flat and soft are considered poor for your feet as they actually can result in flat-feet. If one has a serious foot condition, they would likely not be prescribed shoes that would quickly sink. OK my friend RisingForce one thing I forgot to mention was that I can't
wear shoes with hard solid soles ! Due to the condition of my feet I have
to buy really expensive specially made orthpedic shoes with soles that are
extremely soft and rubber like . And when you wear these for a very long
time , they wear out faster and the soft soles gets compressed much more
than just ordinary causal shoes . When I had bought them shoes brand new ,
they were like only .80 inchs of soles . But I had walked all over Cali,
New York and toronto with those shoes and is about to get rid of them !
Believe me my friends Maria clearly had two inchs of footwear advantage with
me in that photo . You can clearly see that her heels give her far more than
one inch of footwear advantage over me .

A picture from yesterday (toronto tournement)with dementieva and shrapova. Both players seem to stand straight. I can only see 1 or 1.5 inch difference between them. Dementieva is regarded as being 5'11, so Sharapova is 6'0 or 6'1 at the most. Case closed?

I don't wish to call Ivanovic a liar, but there is no way that she is 6'1. I'm not convinced that she is 6'0 either. There are numerous photos of her looking shorter than players she is recorded as being taller than. At the WTA Montreal event last year, I'm sure that I was over 2 inches taller than her.
Put is this way, I think that Sharapova is 6'1 and not 6'2, but she has a far greater claim to being 6'2 than Ivanovic does to being 6'1.

I'm 6'2 in bare feet/6'3 in standard shoes (I had my height measured recently for a BMI survey). Last year at Montreal when she was heading to the practice courts, I was an inch taller than her. I think that she is 6'1 in bare feet and 6'2 in tennis shoes. Of course a person's official height is how tall they are in bare feet without the aid of shoes, so she is 6'1.

The thing is, I think, with all those confusing heights, that a lot of people take 6 ft as being 180 cm. It has to be 183 cm. So I think it's better to measure in meters and cm, for there is no confusion about that.
