They have Vesnina listed wrong on the WTA website. She's listed as 176cm which isn't 5'7.75" but more 5'9.25". This seems right since she looks to have the same amount of height on Vera Zvonereva (listed as 5'7.75" but only claims 170cm on her website) as Serena Williams at Wimbledon last month.

Did u see the match betwn Maria & Serena at Wimbledon. Poor Maria matched Serena stroke for stroke in the 1st set but after that Serena just steam rolled Maria in the 2nd. Once again this proved that just height is not enough. The 6'2", 160 lb Maria looked so weak and tiny when she stood with the 5'9", 185 lb Serena. Vujacic was officially listed in the 2004 NBA draft as 6'6 without and 6'7 with shoes. He is currently listed as 6'7 and it is typical for NBA players to be listed with shoes. Kobe is at least 6'4,75. He is listed 6'6 (= with shoes). On most footage Vujacic looks taller than Kobe. This all is consistent with Maria being 6'2 or, fair enough, only 187 cm. When I was standing next to Maria (see comment on May 15) together with my 184 cm wife and 187 cm brother, Maria was taller than my brother. Take this from a 195.5 cm NBA and tennis fan. These should be a good guide because it's next to something we know for a fact is 74.5 inches, 6'2.5 (189.23 cm), a 2008 Land Rover R3 :) (I'm assuming it's a 2008 LR3 because it was taken at the Land Rover 60th Anniversary July 11th 2008)

Please, please, please guys believe me that she's nothing near 6'2. 6'1 or maybe 6'1.25 is the maximum, but I still don't believe, because she's shorter than Roddick and Federer who are 6'1-6'2, so she must be UNDER 6'1, watch this videos or pics, you see that Venus is 5'11 or something like this and Roddick Federer 6'1-6'2, but everytime Sharapova is in the picture she's a bit (not a lot) shorter than them so it's a fact that she's maybe about 6'0.5-6'1. That's still VERY, VERY tall for a woman, but stop dreaming, she's always wearing lifts and so she's 6'5+ which makes the illusion of being a giant.

I agree with Karl on this one. Federer's legs are bent in those pics while Sharapova is standing fully upright. Roddick has a good inch or two on her it appears. Fair point talker although what I'm saying is that if she said herself she is 1.87m in the metric system and it was very recent she as might as well be that height, but I don't think there's anyway whatsoever that she is under 1.87m now days, she just looks too tall to be shorter than that. The difference between 1.87m and 1.88m is very small but it makes a huge difference to some of the posters over here. P.S. to 'dstrzdr' - The video on youtube only shows a few minutes of the show and it mentions nothing of her height. So far the only source we have is from you claiming to have watched the whole show on TV, so thanks for your info. She asks M. her height and she said it: 1.87 And that's without heels, says Angelica. 1.87 fits perfectly with the 6'2" she said on Ellen Degeneres: since the inches system is so bad for telling your height, if you are 1.87, the translation is 6' 1" 3/5, so (rounding in inches) it is closer to 6 2 than 6 1. talker says on 9/Dec/09
guys,trying to make Maria anything less than 6'2" is ridiculous.I'm a HUGE Maria fan,been watching her all her career,havent missed one single match.She really doesnt like her height.She said she was fine at 6'which is totaly believable.I SAW her play all through her 2 extra inches and all the problems she had with that.If she was anything less there is no way on earth she would say she is 6'2".There are people who insist she is even taller than 6'2",which is the ONLY slight possibility but i think she is exactly what she says 6'2",no more ,no less. l0ck n l0ad says on 8/Dec/09

Sharapova is wearing huge heels in that video, atleas about 6" heels. That would make her 6'8" if she were really 6'2" tall. But if the other guy is 5'10" then Sharapova even with the heels doesnt look more than 6'4" Anonymous says on 7/Dec/09

She was in Chile, first days of december. She really stood out. Youtube search for "Maria Cachantun" and you will see part of the interview. The guy is 1.78m and the female interviewer about 1.76mwithout shoes. I saw the whole show, and she asked Maria how tall she is, and Maria finally answered in a reasonable metric system: One eighty seven she said! 1.87m it is I think. eagle eye says on 4/Dec/09

Yeah look at the floor. Sharapova has an advantage... stop posting pictures like this. And even if Vujacic is 6'6 and has an 1-2 inches disadvantage he's towering her. If she would be 6'2 she wouldn't be so short in this pic. 6'0-6'1. No more than this.
Riddick is taller, Federer is taller what else do you need? They're both 6'2 or lower, so she can't be more than 6'1.

Maria is somewhere between 6'1'' and 6'2''. She might not be exactly 6'2'', but saying that she is shorter than 6'1'' is simply silly. She is the tallest top tennis player on women's side other than Lindsay Davenport who is a true 6'2'' or maybe even 6'2 1/2''. By the way, I think Venus Williams is taller than 6'1''. With leggy beauties like Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, Elena Dementieva & Dinara Safina present, there is no question of missing Maria Sharapova who is the girl with the longect tennis playing legs. I think this picture - Click Here - pretty much confirms that Maria is around 6'1". Roddick's a strong 6'2" and even if Maria were standing completely straight she'd still be an inch shorter than him. The picture also shows that Serena Williams has an enormous head. |
