Michael was a little over 5-9 at his peak. I saw him years ago. In the new Wall Street movie, he looks shorter than Shia LeBouf, but on Letterman he did not seem too much shorter than the host.

When I lived in San Francisco they were always shooting his TV series all over the place. One time down by Aquatic Park I was standing in the crowd near Karl Malden when someone pushed their way through. I thought at first it was a small child. No it was tiny, slight Mike Douglas. He and Keifer Sutherland look very close to the same height in The Sentinel (2006) when stood next to each other. Some shots Douglas looks a smidge taller, some shots keifer does. RisingForce says on 6/Feb/10

I met Kirk Douglas about 21 years ago very briefly at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. He and his wife were extremely nice people. But I was very amazed at his size. He and I were the EXACT same size in height and frame, 5'7" and medium frame. I always imagined him larger, but since I met him in person, I can say for a fact he was at that time right at 5'7". mcfan says on 8/Jan/10

He is on Regis and Kelly right now, and the same height at Regis, who is stated to be 5'5" to 5'6". This substantiates my earlier comments personally meeting him, putting him at most 5'6" to 5'7". Wrong Anonymous. Kirk was about 5'8" in his prime. He later lost height due to age plus his medical problems plus the fact he's terribly bow-legged. And Kirk was not small boned. The guy had one of the widest chests I've ever seen on an actor except for Bob Mitchum's.
Michael was 5'10" prime. I mean look at THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. He's not more than two to three inches shorter than 6'1" Karl Malden.

Doesn't prove anything. We don't see his feet plus Karl Malden shrank. I know since I saw him in the 1980s when he was about 6' (his peak was 6'1") and then in the late 1990s when he didn't look much more than 5'10". Yeah, Burt really poked fun at Kirk during SEVEN DAYS IN MAY. In that film, Kirk wore huge lifts. Kirk was 5'8" peak height and today is about 5'5".

Yes, during "Wall Street" he does look 5'10 for movies of the 70s and 80s. However, I think in the 90s he started to lose some height. By the time of "The Wonder Boys" (2000) he was definitely just 5'9...no way taller. Dylan says on 18/May/09

I read an article which said he was 6'1" once, which is definately out of the question. I did see him at the Biltmore in Santa Barbara a few years back and I would have guessed he was about 5'10", it is difficult to analyse when someone makes a brief entrance then exits, so 5'9" could be right Doug says on 11/Apr/09
Doesn't look anywhere near it in relation to Mohammed Ali. Ali dwarfs Douglas by around 8 inches. He looks 5'7" next to Ali. Looks 5'8.5" here though. |
