Avery made SUCH a great Captain; I liked his performance as the Captain the first time I saw DS9.

I believe it’s showing on the Legend/Horror Channel now, at around tea time.

This great actor gets 6ft1.25 and 6ft0.5 today.

If Norton was a strong 6ft which many argue, this guy could have actually been 186cm
berta said on 3/Jan/23
his current height have been on 184 for almost 15 years. Was he always 184? He did look legit 6Β΄1 back in the day. but i mean if he had lost height already 15 years back to 184 cm then he should have lost atleast 1-2 cm more now when he is at a stage where most people start losing very fast. 185,5 peak and these days maybe 183 on a good day.

Ooh! I'll have to look out for Avery next time I watch 'American History X', my copy of which I came across the other day. I never knew he starred in this award winner of a film, starring Edwards Norton and Furlong as brothers.

6ft1.25 for the Avery peak and 6ft0.5 for his today's height. He played a great Captain in Star Trek's 'Deep Space Nine'. I love the way they make the Captains so variable, and when lady captain, Captain Kate Janeway, captained the spaceship in 'Voyager', insodoing making a fine job of it, I reckoned that there was no room for any further improvement! πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘Œ

@ Sandy Cowell - Hi!

Your autocorrect just gets funnier and funnier, whatever next? Your phone has a memory and a brain, and a sense of humour out of insulting people! Now Rob's phone is at it as well! I think that coming out with "prank height" was very funny, well "Google" take the chocolate cookie and list 5'6" people as 6'0"!

Your phone picks up on all the rudest words, like you said! Phones must be infested with demons!

Having thought about it I could even be tempted to offer Avery 5'11.75" for his nowadays height, maybe I would put 5'11.875" if I could! He will certainly have at least been pushing 6'1" when he was at his tallest!

Congratulations on providing the 100th comment on this page!
Sandy Cowell said on 15/May/18
@ Rob - Yes, our phones seem to have memories for the words we tend to use! Mine seems to pick up on all the rudest ones! I think 'prank height' was kind of lenient, and very appropriate!
Sandy Cowell said on 13/May/18
Ah, yes! I knew the name and it has just dawned on me that he is the Captain of the starship in 'Deep Space Nine'! It's such a smashing part of the 'Star Trek' offerings, with so many weird and wonderful Aliens, that I wasn't 100% sure whether Avery played the Captain or an Alien, and the Alien I have in mind is from a small, as in short, race of Aliens who are greedy for material things, have big, sensitive ears, which they enjoy having tickled and whose name starts with an 'F'! It is pronounced 'Ferengi', but I bet that's the wrong spelling!

Well, when I saw Nik's comment with 6ft being his height 'nowadays', I thought "That doesn't sound like the height of one of those greedy little big-eared Aliens! I have to check this one out post haste!"

When I arrived at his page, I found my answer! He's the Captain and he's TALL! Avery gets 6ft1 for his peak* height and 6ft0.25 for his today's height! If I could put 6ft and an eighth, then I would do just that!

I've just noticed that Avery has appeared in two brilliant films, both in my possession! The first is 'American History X' and then there is '15 Minutes'! Both are fantastic movies and I can honestly say that I HAVE noticed the name 'Avery Brooks' pop up in the
credits of quite a few films! At least now, I have firmly established in my overcrowded little head exactly who he is! Hooray to that!

* @ Rob, Nik and everybody else! - My autocorrect tried to invent a new term just now! In fact, it is one that gets both thumbs up from me! The term is PRANK height, and was slipped in instead of PEAK height! It is a term that could be applied to many a height I have come across since researching heights on Google! πŸ˜‰

Just a strange line, maybe, MAYBE if he was 6 flat, it would make sense, but to say that to any 185cm guy, it's like how tall did you expect him to be?

The cast of DS9 were all nearly the same height:
Avery Brooks - 185 cm
Rene Auberjonois - 183 cm
Alexander Siddig - 182 cm
Terry Farrell - 182 cm (wore the male-version flat boots instead of the female one with small heels)
Colm Meaney - 180 cm
Nana Visitor - 172 cm (179-180 cm in the heels she's wearing)

The exception is shorty Armin Shimerman (166 cm), and tall guys Michael Dorn and Cirroc Lofton (191 cm both).

Marc Alaimo and J.G. Hertzler are also 183 cm, Andrew Robinson 178 cm, Louise Fletcher 175 cm, Casey Biggs 174 cm, Jeffrey Combs 170 cm, Chase Masterson 169-170 cm (plus heels), Penny Johnson 165 cm?, Aron Eisenberg 152 cm.

I question 6'1" since I just saw an episode of Deep Space 9 (the one where they are cut in with the original show) and he looked significantly shorter than Terry Farrell.."

That's because Farrell was wearing significantly bigger heels than Brooks in that episode (which is actually incorrect, since male and female crewmembers wore the same kind of boots in the original series). That made her 6'2"-6'2.5" and her '60s hairstyle also made her appear taller.
