My height was a handicap. I was only five feet tall until my mid-teens, when I started growing to my present height of five feet eight inches.

Yes, Warnie deserves a page. Gone too soon. Would have guessed him shade under 5'11 peak.

@ rob paul, add shane warne too robby.

@ rob paul, yeah you are right rob. Those bowling actions take toil on the body. But then again spine related height loss has nothing do with bowling action or stress or batting for long hours each day for 15 to 20 years . Players do streching regularly. Knee related height loss is very much possible. I believe lara peak 5'8 and currently 5'7.75". Warne peak 5'10.75" currently 5' 10.5".

Cricketers, especially bowlers who bowl long spells are more likely to lose height. Almost all test bowlers these days end up having stress fractures or back issues. Sports like American football, hockey and soccer require better stamina but cricket especially test cricket can be mentally and physically taxing.

It is a fair point with the action of bowling and stress, maybe there is a greater chance of loss in mid to late 40's with some cricket players

@ tall in saddle, yeah i think warne peak 5'10.75" and currently 5'10.25" would be right on money. Lara also 5'7.5" nowadays, peak 5'8".

@Rahul roy

Just had a quick look right now so I don't forget to reply. Available vision/images not perfect but maybe at least a 2" advantage reasonably argued for Novak? If Novak isn't actually 6'2" but instead 6'1 1/2" as this site lists him, I guess that would put Warnie closer to 5'10" given this particular comparison. Also, Shane's footwear might've been a tad thicker than Novak's but I couldn't say for sure. Just a gut feeling but Warne strikes me as the type of guy who would've given his shoe height at peak then rounded. So maybe 5'10 3/4" barefoot peak and close to 5'10" now. Looks to be a peak height shot of Warne on this page and Lara appears to be standing maybe 2 1/2" to 3" max. shorter.

@ linke, i dont watch tennis either. But saw a video of both of them. Warne looked a good 5'10 .5". Obviously bowled lots of over. I believe 5'11" peak and 5'10.5" now. Due to age and bowling endless overs he has lost 0.5 inches.
Sakz said on 3/Apr/21
@Linke Warne's build also makes him look shorter. He gives more of a 5'10 impression to me as opposed to 5'11.

@Rahul Roy Had a quick look and Warne looks a solid 3" shorter than Novak. I can see him being slightly over 5'10 at best based on that.

@ tall in saddle, hi bro. Can you guess how tall warne looked with novak djokovic? I saw them in a youtube video in australian open tournament.
Linke said on 2/Apr/21
Rahul, pretty sure Warne has claimed to be a Collingwood six footer in one of his cricket interviews. I think he was close to 5'11 in his youth and now has lost a bit, maybe 179 cms guy. I don't really watch Tennis, so I am not really familiar with Novak but there's few pictures of warnie at peak with Russel Crowe and they kinda look in the similar range. Warnie was a workhorse at his peak and used to bowl endless spells, so at 51 I won't be surprised if he has lost some height.
Tall In The Saddle said on 1/Apr/21
Warne is supposed to be 6' even. Has probably given a shorter impression at times as he hasn't been svelte too often. If Warne is 6' then Lara "appears" to be standing better than 5'8" but there are some obvious variables in play. Also, Warnie may actually be more like 5'11" to 5'11.5".

Given the whole comparison landscape, I think 5'8" is a fair call. Unless it's hyperbole, to be just 5' in his mid teens and then grow 8" is quite exceptional and as one could imagine, more than welcomed. A finely built man, all finesse as cricketer. King of cool, like so many other West Indies' greats, including Viv Richards who was similarly talented but also had sheer brute strength force to fall back on as and when required. Viv, aptly tagged as Smok'n' Joe, after boxing great Joe Frazier.

@ linke, i think warne is 5'10" if lara is 5'7.5". Can you guess how tall does warne look besides tennis legend novak djokovic who is 6'1.5" tall?
Linke said on 29/Mar/21
Sorry mate, not going over 5'7.5 for BCL. Sachin is 2 inches shorter but claims 5'6.5.
Rahul roy said on 28/Mar/21
@ linke, dont challenge rob. Srk is wearing lift in his shoes. Your friend not a great height guesser like rob. Lara is perfect 5'8.
Sakz said on 28/Mar/21
@Rob Gives a shorter impression on tv. Going by the picture above, Warne looks taller than I thought. Considering adding him?
Linke said on 27/Mar/21
This is a surprise ad. A 5'11 friend of mine met him and thought he was 5'7. Next to 5'7.5 SRK, he looks same height.

I guessing him at 5'7.5 and Sachin is good 2 inches shorter but claims 5'6.5!!!

@ Rob - Is he under 5’8” these days?
Editor Rob
I'm not aware if he would have shrunk anything noticeable by age 51...he might still be near what he was in his 30's.
Rahul roy said on 26/Mar/21
Lara peak 5'8.25" current 5'8. Sachin 5'5.25" peak current 5'5".
Rahul roy said on 26/Mar/21
@ miss sandy cowell, yeah that means lara grew 8 inches since he turned 16( mid teens). Thats some serious late blooming.
Rahul roy said on 26/Mar/21
@ rob paul , ok rob get it. Shane warne height- 5'11 peak currently 5'10.75". Is that correct?
Miss Sandy Cowell said on 26/Mar/21
Lots of young lads put on late growth spurts, just like Brian. At least he ended up a thoroughly respectable height of 5ft8.

When I say 'respectable', I mean tall enough to become a good cricketer/sportsperson. In many a sport, it's an advantage to have a bit of height. It wasn't much fun playing netball for me, for instance, until I was picked for the team after two years' practice. Hockey, on the other hand, was easy. I was nearer to the ball than most, and another short girl also excelled!

@ rob paul, common rob dont waist any time. Quickly add shane warne ( 5'10.25 to 5'10.5" and sachin ( about 5'5") . Three big legends in cricket field. And add dale steyn ( cricketer/ fast bowler from south africa). He did a cameo in movie blended. He and sandler has some pictures. Looks 6 foot to me. Common man. @ rob paul, sorry rob i guessed him 5' 10" just to increase the average guess to 5'9". But yeah brian lara is obviously a clinical 5'8". So about .25 below of your height since your height listing around lunch time range. But how tall is shane warne in this photo? Definietly taller than 5'10. I am confused 5'10.25" or 5'10.5". So my guess is 5' 10" and 3/8 inches . Wahts your guess?
Editor Rob
I think Warne can look over 5ft 10, maybe a bit looser stance though.
Johnny 181-182 cm said on 26/Mar/21

Good add! One of the greatest batsmen in West Indies cricketing history! Constantly sized up against much taller bowlers and wasn't afraid to strike the ball.
