I enjoyed seeing Derek chatting merrily away about his fondness for 'Coronation Street' in an hour-long special yesterday, along with many other famous fans and the Soap's hard-working actors. We couldn't see his height though!

Rob, what kind of footwear did you and he have on? He never looked 5' 8" in "The Last Tango in Halifax" and he looks to be at least an inch shorter than you in that photo. On the assumption you are wearing sneakers I would say he is 5' 7" max.

I made a comment about Jacobi and Burt Reynolds in the film "A Bunch of Amateurs" many years ago on this page, but it has been deleted....but my vague recollection is Jacobi was taller than Reynolds! Now that's food for thought...

In the film Love is the Devil made in 1998 he looks almost the same as Daniel Craig when they are standing facing each other in a naked shot. That would make him a bit under Craig at 5ft 9.5, he has obviously lost weight in older age.

He looks shorter than you in above pic. He's 74 now, but I don't think he was ever 5'10". He never really struck me as a tall person. He was always one of the shortest actors in every movie/tv-show I've seen him in.

i met him on the set of Pinochet's Progress, a BBC docudrama. 5'10 is about right. he was a very congenial gentleman. very friendly and warm.
