Ford was legitimately 6'0.5 or 1.84m. Above picture shows him next to Nixon who was fractionally shorter than 6 ft tall, and he's half an inch if not, just about a full inch above his mark. He'd easily near Reagan's mark ,to whom was given a legit 6'1 listing. 6'0.5

About 184 cm tall.

Rob, any thoughts on the height of Gerald’s son, Steven? 6’1”?

Steven is the closest man to Gerald in the above photo.

Could even look a fraction over 6ft 1 in that photo.

Rob, it’s interesting that that’s your opinion. Upon seeing that photograph, Chirac and d’Estaing being basically the same height was my first impression too! However, upon closer examination of the photo, I interpreted Chirac as closer to the camera and d’Estaing standing with a cm or two in reserve. Hence, I would now bet 100% on d’Estaing having been at least three quarters of a inch taller than Chirac in the 1970s. I can see an inch between them in that photo easily now! However, Chirac held on to his height better than d’Estaing over the years and by the 2000s, d’Estaing had shrunk a bit below Chirac.

Maybe if I looked at more photos of them I'd come to a conclusion who might be taller...with a couple of photos, sometimes it isn't always as obvious.

Rob, who do you think was taller in the attached photo, Chirac or d’Estaing?

Very close, even with a few other photos there below that one I was thinking I wouldn't bet on who I think is taller!

Peak height 6' 1/2". Looks 5'11'' with George W Bush

D'Estaing looks 189-190cm range with Ford. Minimum 6ft2½ for him if not 6ft2¾...
Freddy said on 13/Oct/21
Yes a strong 6ft2½. That's what I thought too. But as sometimes official claims about heights tend to add 2.5 to 4cm (depending if they are measured in the morning and with shoes), it is better to be sure. Thank you for your reply Rob.

Hi Rob!
What is the height of our very former President of the French Republic Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in these photos alongside Gerald Ford?
It has always been mentioned as being 189cm / 6ft2½ (just like Jacques Chirac by the way). According to the photos, 189cm seems very fair if Ford still measures 183cm in 1975.
What do you think? Thanks

based on those photos I think 189cm seems a decent guess for him.

I think that he was a fraction over 6'0 at peak, like maybe 6'0.25, but by the time he was in office he was over 60, so he was 6'0 flat in the evening.

I can see a case for a smidgen over 6ft

183.5-184cm

@ Jordan87 - We can all make our own advantages and strive for more important and meaningful things than bothering about something like height which we cannot do anything about. A person can be happier doing nice things for others and they can make others happier by doing nice things for them, just cracking a smile is one example of a nice thing! I’d rather be 4’3” and wake up every morning than be taller and not.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 25/Aug/21
Jordan87, true but they've also got a lower center of gravity which often times the taller guys undermine at their own peril...and end up getting chopped down like trees

@ Nik Ashton,

Height is an Advantage in Society in both social and Athletic Situations.

Which is why an Athlete Like Mike Tyson, Drew Brees, Daniel Cormier to name a few are so interesting. They are short Tyson gave up Reach , Cormier gave up Reach, Brees can't even see over his Offensive Line yet they all exceed.

Weird thought I commented on this a while ago. He could look a fairly strong six footer and seemed to have little height loss with age. While serving as president, I bet he would edge both Donald Trump and Joe Biden, although both were older, during their terms.
Nik Ashton said on 24/Aug/21
@ Sandy Cowell - It does but Jimmy Carter isn’t the tallest, he isn’t the shortest either! Also it’s interesting that James Madison was only 5’4”, I didn’t know this. James may have been short but he had a long and productive life and this matters more than height, of course anyone can be successful and success also comes from being a nice and considerate person and from what a person says and from how they act. I would have been considered to be fairly tall walking around America in the 1700’s and 1800’s, now I would be considered to be average in parts, shortish in parts, and diddy in parts! 👌

That does tend to be true Nik, but there have been exceptions. James Madison, one of the Founding Fathers of America and the 4th US President, was only 5ft4.

He was born in March 1751 and passed away in June 1836. He was President from 1809-1817.
😁👍

I wonder why politicians and presidents are on average much taller than other people from the same age group!
Miss Sandy Cowell said on 22/Aug/21
It might be a thought, Rob, to add First Lady, Betty Ford, for helping so many people to successfully detox and live fuller, freer and happier lives. She was 5ft3.

As president he measured 6'0 so I doubt that his peak height was anything under that. Judging by photos it seems that he didn't lose that much height in his later years. In photos of Ford in his 90s next to George W Bush he could still look somewhere around 5'11. He aged well I'd say.
Cbrady said on 20/Aug/21
Wonder what the chances are that six measurement was 1 hour and a half or so out of bed for Ford? He seems like a 5-11 5/8 sort of guy to me.
Editor Rob
Sometimes they document the timeframe of Presidential activities, but most physicals are in the morning. On in 1974 said 72 inches and 200 3/4 pounds.

he look taller in those photos. i would have guessed 184 based on them but i have no clue really

He was great in Beverly hills cop 2! 6'0 is perfect.
Sinclair said on 19/Aug/21
Still a solid six footer in office in his 60s, so I would think 6’0.25” for Ford’s peak would be reasonable. Interestingly, Ford looks taller than Ronald Reagan (6’0.5” at peak) in many photos and when considering shrinking, Ford was only two years Reagan’s junior.
David Tang said on 19/Aug/21
6'.5
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 19/Aug/21
Like Bush Sr., Ford successfully maintained his height through office. I think 6ft0½ prime is possible in the same way 6ft2½ could be argued for Bush Sr. As you can see Reagan had lost some height. Nixon did ok, maybe a strong 5ft10 down from a weak 5ft11 (was not the commonly reported 5ft11½ except for maybe the minute he stepped out of bed)
viper said on 19/Aug/21
Bush Sr. looks about 6-3
Jawilder said on 19/Aug/21
Maybe similar height to Biden? Fraction over 6 feet peak and didn’t lose a lot of height even as he grew older of age.
Arch Stanton said on 19/Aug/21
George Bush Sr looks a strong 6'2 there, looks similar to Heston height.

Hey rob in the first pic he looks 185 cm tho? How tall are they in that picture together?

Nixon could have been 5ft 10 there in the first photo.

What a long time ago the Seventies seem now! Gerald was President from 1974 - 1977, and Vice President from 1973 - 1974. 🇺🇸🗽

Time flies, and the older you get, the faster it goes. My Stepmum warned me when I was 31 and phoned up while doing my Christmas shopping.

Also famous was Gerald's wife, Betty, who helped so, so many people at the end of their tether with addictions and is still continuing to do so to this day, by opening the highly successful Betty Ford Center.

This marvellous routine enabled people to detoxify from harmful substances. How very commendable. 🤗🥇

Both Gerald and Betty passed on at the age of 93.

6ft.

RIP Gerald Ford. 🕯️

Looks over 6ft with Reagan (not at his peak anymore) and Nixon (still minimum 5ft10 I reckon)
