To be fair he looked a full 6 ft 1 with Jean Paul Belmondo in several French films shot around the same period as Goldfinger. Bigger than he seemed in Goldfinger for some reason.

Looked a full 185 cm next to Connery, no question about it.

I think that he was just around 183-184 cm. Not quite 6'1. At least, that's how he looked next to Connery. Still pretty tall, especially at that time
Arch Stanton said on 24/Jan/23
I think he looked barely over 6 ft with Connery. He was only about 50 when Goldfinger was shot, height loss by then? I wouldn't give him more than 184.

Did look 2” shorter than Connery in Goldfinger so at times he was presumably 6’/183cm. I think 6’0.5/184cm as peak seems fair

Hard to believe he lost an inch by the age of 50...
Arch Stanton said on 4/Jan/23
Looked no more than 184 with Connery, 50 or 51 at time...

Rob, I'm gonna take him at his word and say 186cm peak and by Goldfinger maybe 184-185cm zone

Rob, could you please add “And Then There Were None” to Frobe’s film credits?

I’d buy a flat 6’1” for Frobe’s peak height. In Goldfinger, he looked less than than a flat 6’1”, Connery was over one inch taller than Frobe. I believe Frobe was the tallest cast member in And Then There Were None (1974) and I thought he still edged out 5’11.5” Maurice Ronet in Bloodline (although, the height difference between those two was rather minimal in that film).

In Dollars I do think Warren Beatty looked taller than him, however at what age Gert started losing height is unknown.

Yeah if he was a genuine 6'1" it would make Connery a true strong 6'2" but he could have been more 6'0"-6-1" range since Connery was not a strong 6'2" generally.

His real height is 6-0.

Connery 6-1.5

184/185cm with Connery

I have been watching "Goldfinger" film closely and I can confidently state that it is 1.5inch / 4 cm shorter than Sean Connery.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 19/Jun/16
He looked 1-2in below Connery
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 26/Mar/16
I think it's genuine...and my guess is that it was an army measurement. But I think he may have already lost a little bit of height by Goldfinger.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 25/Mar/16
Rob, at the bottom of that page he is quoted as saying 6ft1¼.

He was a member of the Nazi party (but used it as a cover to get Jews out of the country), so I think he got measured at that

I don't know where the quote originated, but it doesn't sound a made up one.

Was he really taller than David Carradine in The Serpent's Egg? I didn't think he looked noticeably taller.

Rob, can you add a photo and films such as Goldfinger, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines, The Serpent's Egg, Jules Verne's Rocket to the Moon, Monte Caro or Bust, Is Paris Burning?, Ludwig and The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse.

"Gert Frobe height: 6ft 1.25in (186cm)"

Again more evidence supporting a 6ft2-6ft3 Connery. Frobe was in a dreadful movie a couple of years after Goldfinger with Oliver Reed and looked 6ft1-6ft2. Forgot the name of the movie but it really did demonstrate his poor English
Mike said on 21/Aug/13
Gert Frobe was ~50 at Goldfinger and in that movie he seems to be about 2 inches shorter than 6'2.5 Sean Connery so in my opinion a weak 6'1 but his claim of 6'1.25 was right but maybe in his 20s-30s.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 20/Jul/13
Rob, he claimed 6"1.25"(186cm). Could that be closer?
Willy said on 20/Nov/12
Tom is right, but I believe that Connery was a bit over 6'2'' at peak. Maybe 6'2.25'' for Sean and 6'0.25'' for Gert while filming Goldfinger.
tom said on 19/Nov/12
Connery had a good 2 inches on him in goldfinger. 6 Foot seems his true height.
Willy said on 1/Oct/12
Has claimed 6'1.25''. When filming Goldfinger in his early fifties, he looked exactly 6'1'' to me, but I certainly wouldn't rule out his claimed height as peak height.

As of 1964 Connery was 6ft2.5 and Frobe was 6ft1.5.

I found this quote.

'I am a tall man, 6 feet 1 1/4, I am born in 1913, that's all.
adam said on 19/Oct/08
You dont see a quater of an inches, Hugh. Let`s say that Frobe was around 6-1 to 6-2 range. 6-1 could be correct, maybe a little more. Connery was a solid 6-2.
Hugh said on 30/Aug/08
Gert Frobe was 6ft1.25 (186cm) and Sean Connery was 6ft2.5 (189cm) as of 1964.
Ray said on 22/Apr/08
I'd say he was very close to 6' 1"...probably 6' 0.75" (185 cm) ,so could claim it. Connery was 3/4" taller at 6'1.5" (187 cm).
Sam said on 13/Jun/07
Connery i'd say back in 64' was around 6'2-6'3. Gert frobe exactly one inch shorter. I'd put him around the 6'1-6'2 range. He was tall man back in the day.
Anshelm said on 17/Feb/07
Hmm, I'm watching Goldfinger on TV right now, an I'd say 183 cm/6' is enough if Connery was 187 cm/6'1½" back in 1964. But since movies are hardly reliable material on the subject, I'd guess 185 cm could be true – especially in his earlier years.

But it was Harold Sakata that surprised me: only recently did I see a claim that he was 173 cm/5'8" instead of 185 cm/6'1", and my god that looks right. I guess I hadn't paid him proper attention, and that 185 cm seemed OK to me, as I remembered him shorter than Connery.

BTW: some video guide claimed that Sakata's waist measured 270 cm (106¼"). Ya, right.

Frobe was seriously big man in my memory of Goldfinger. Similar in height to 6'2'' Connery and heavily set.
Anthony said on 6/Dec/06
I agree, in "Goldfinger" he was a bit smaller than 6'2 Connery.
