Joe pesci claimed 5'5".....He doesn't strike me as a person insecure about height. Couldn't he have been near the 5'4 range in his 20's and he was using that and just adding an inch....Rob?
What if he was measured at 5'4,or near it in his younger days.
5ft 3.5 peak is a figure I've not dismissed, but 5ft 4 I am not as convinced about.
said on 27/Nov/19
He needs a peak. He lost around an inch. He was around 5'4 in his youth and he always looks taller than Martin Scorsese:

Rob, is it possible that Joe was a little more, like 5'3" 1/2, in his peak height?
That would be the limit for me, 5ft 3.5.

Fraction over 5'2 peak, like Pacino, seems to wear a lot of high heeled boots in his movies to stay somewhat in height comparison of fellow actors.

5'3 now, 5'4.5 peak.
Under5'7"Claim5'7" said on 2/Mar/19
I don't think he can say 5'5" is "not tall". 5'5" and 5'6" are like the classic short heights for a man without being too short, but since he is actually 5'3" it makes him very short.

How can Joe Pesci be 5'3" when 5'2" Scorsese appears clearly to be taller (scroll down page for image of both of them talking)

I got Pesci peak height at 5’4 or a tall 5’3. He always looks about an inch taller than Scorsese.
Michael, 5'10" 178 cm said on 27/Nov/18
He was 5’3” at peak and is probably 5’1”-5’2” now. I find Joe claiming 5’5” hilarious. He was never that tall especially when you saw him next to 5’9” Mel Gibson and 6’4” Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. He was laughably short compared to those two, I think he actually looked shorter than 5’3” in that movie, like barely 5’0”. In Home Alone, he looked more than a foot shorter than Daniel Stern and he didn’t even reach his shoulders. He looked at least half a foot shorter than 5’9” Robert De Niro who isn’t very tall, but he towered over Pesci when they were together in Goodfellas and Casino. He made 6’0” or so Ray Liotta look like a giant in comparison. Joe Pesci was 5’3” max in the old days and is probably no taller than 5’2” now.

Rob, 5'3 is its peak height, or today?
I'd say peak range 5ft 3, today he might be half to 1 inch shorter.
Obviously the shorter someone is, the less on average they might shrink compared to a taller person.

@ James - That sounds 100% spot on for Joe, but now I don't know whether to put 5ft2 or 5ft3, because there's just the one box!
I'll have to go with 5ft2.5, but I wouldn't be very pleased if someone didn't put my optimum height if I was small (ha ha!) and only had the one box, so for that reason, I shall change it over to 5ft3!
It's only fair! 😉🌞🌅🌞😃

his absurd claim to be a lofty 5'.

That's pretty cool to see a stand-in use this site for his work. This site has certainly grown in recognition.
And there's many reasons to find height interesting, including all of the things that go into projecting a certain image on the screen. For instance, it's interesting to see that Boris Karloff, who played the original Frankenstein, was under 6 feet tall. And I know that I have many other things to occupy my mind, height is just one of many interests. I assume most others on the site are the same way. If you don't like it then how did you find your way to this site and why post a comment?
Anon said on 2/Jul/17
Good response, Rob. I have been a regular here for what feels like close to a decade, not too far off. Congratulations on being recognised for your efforts. As for Pesci, I find it hard to judge smaller men. He certainly always gave the impression of someone about 5'4'' or something.
said on 2/Jul/17
Why are their heights so important to you people? You really have nothing else to occupy your minds?
some people have an interest in height. One thing people notice about other humans is how tall they look.
And as this site shows, actors and famous people - like ourselves - come in all sorts of heights.
Actors have their height (and weight) often listed on their resumes. If it's not important, why is it there? Do you put your height/weight on your own resume? No, unless you are an actor, because it helps with the type of roles you might get, and of course Casting director's look at height stats when casting for tv/film.
If you scroll down this interview With a stand-in
, you will also see that people use this site for those type of reasons, discovering what are the real heights.
As the stand-in says "When I learn about a certain actor who will be doing a project, I often go to a website called CelebHeights.com. It is fantastic."
RisingForce said on 18/Jun/17
Perfect example of why nobody should read too much into photos where we can't see their feet. Of course, the other possibility is that Joe Pesci is an even better actor than we thought. Not just adept at drama and comedy, but also playing short guys - he's actually six feet tall in real life!
said on 15/Jun/17
Uhhhh....does anyone else think Pesci is standing on a step(or two) in this recent picture of a reunion with his on-screen partner in crime? Daniel Stern is still listed at his peak height of 6'4", so I really don't see any other possibilities.
Shredder said on 15/Jun/17
He has one of the worst claims ever , nowhere near it.
said on 12/Jun/17
He claims 5'4" officially elsewhere, and even that seems like a reach.
Joe Pesci's official height is 5ft 5, what he claims to be.
The 'biography trivia' section of imdb isn't official, anybody can attempt to update or submit data to that...many people who visit celebheights do that every day.
Realist said on 25/May/17
Only 5'5 in very strong lifts :)
said on 8/May/17
Pesci definitely wears lifts, so he's tough to guess. You can see that here with Scorsese: Click Here
Not only are his shoes thick, but it looks like he's standing on something and you can imagine him standing on his toes there. Lifts don't really work as well with really short men. Proportions look way off, but I can't fault anyone for wanting a boost. Btw, Sharon Stone looks like an Amazonian compared to them at about 5'8"! And Pesci had pretty bulky shoes at the Lethal Weapon premiere, but more importantly, didn't look much shorter than Jet Li and looked at least 5'4" with a roughly 5'9" Mel Gibson: Click Here
This height seems about right, I wouldn't try arguing any taller than 5'3.5".
Editor Rob: those shoes Pesci is wearing certainly seem a bit thicker than normal.

I have 'Goodfellas' and 'Casino', both excellent films and I've seen Joe playing a more comical part in 'Home Alone'. Of course, he looks tiny in all these films - certainly not a full 5ft5, as he claims! I'd say 5ft3.5 - 5ft4 at most. Nowadays he'll probably be even smaller!
Last night I ordered a copy of 'My Cousin Vinny' because it sounds hilarious in the write-up and I will receive it at some stage today.
When I've seen it and been able to peruse his height, I might revise my ideas, but until then
I'm going for 5ft3.5!
One last little thought: his high-pitched voice makes him 'sound' like a short person!!!
Arch Stanton said on 30/Nov/16
Dead short yeah but he's not a guy you'd want to mess with even if you're 6'5 and 250 pounds, he looks pretty vicious and volatile, much like his characters. The 6'5 250 pound guy might find himself shot in the carpark or something haha. Part of his appeal is that he was very believable in those roles of his.

Well, watching him in Lethal Weapon 2 next to Mel Gibson who wears cowboy boots he looks 160 but reaches Mel's eyes especially in the scene before Riggs falls down in the pool beneath the hotel. I don't know how many inches there could be between the two but Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon looks short, maybe 173 in boots and 168 flat (this is only my opinion). There are few scenes in the Lethal Weapon saga in which his barefoot (Gibson) and the cam always films him form below to make him look taller. In that scene I mentioned before Joe Pesci's barefoot while Danny Glover and Mel Gibson wear shoes, lifted shoes in the case of Mel. I'm not an expert of height comparisons though so cannot judge with extreme certainty.

You'd be as rich as a casino in no time with him around for every time he swears! Looks 5'3" range in Casino I think. He often looks 6 inches shorter than De Niro, other times can seem more like 5.
Arch Stanton said on 15/Oct/13
Funny but him and Scorsese look an awful lot like the tiny little old fellas I saw talking on the streets of southern Italy in that photo and I swear a lot of those fellas would be lucky to have ever seen 5 ft 4. 5'2"-5'6" is very common for old men in southern Italy. Some of the shortest ones I saw with back trouble though granted I doubt were much over 5 ft but certainly 5 ft 3-4 is a very common height for old guys in southern Italy and Pesci and Scorsese would fit it right away. I don't know if you've ever been Rob but if you ever do go walk through some of the villages in the south and you'll be amazed at the height of the old men who congregate in the village centres outside shops!! Not all are that short and some are 5'6-5'9" but it is rare to see an older guy over 5'10" in southern Italy! Some of the 6'4"-6'5" Italian footballers like Luca Toni must feel like Bill Walton in the south!

Rob do you think he looks shorter than Scorsese in Parker photo? He looks crazy short in it and look at his footwear, looks rather clumpy and suspicious, although Scorsese also looks like he could be packing Simon Cowell like stacks into his shoes and resorting to the old bootleg Cowell tricks to cover them up in that photo. Pesci looks even shorter than this in that photo. He does look 5'3" in Goodfellas. been a while since I saw Casino but I'll give it a run tomorrow and see what I think.
[Editor Rob: I think he is a bit taller, but he could very well be a guy at times wearing elevator shoes...I'd be surprised if he didn't.]

Obviously Pesci will have lost at least a bit at his age, so he could easily be closer to 5'2 now, but no need for a peak height listing since he isn't all that active now and is more one of those legendary actors.

His role name in the movie was "Frankie Lideo" I think it's pretty obvious. And they are both short guys about the same size so...
And yes Michael FIRED Dileo in 1989. They had nothing to do with each other after that.Even though he suspiciously came back to Michael's life just 3 months before his death.
And I definitely think Joe Pesci is more like 5'2 or 5'3. And so do most people. In Moonwalker for example he wears these shoes with huge heels! Sure he looks a bit taller in them but I doubt he's as tall as 5'4 without those heels.
Seems like this place has everyones heigth with their shoes ON! I very much like to think of actual height wthout the shoes on thank you very much. For example I'm only 5'6(about 167 cm) but with the right kind of shoes I can easily look close to 5'9.

Under 5'3...He played the bad guy in MJ's Moonwalker film, a role clearly based on Michael's old manager Frank Dileo. Dileo has to be under 5'3 too, he always looked so tiny with Michael and we ALL know MJ isn't any more than 5'7 at MOST himself! So I think Joe Pesci must be only 5'2 or something. He can be pretty intimidating for such a short guy though! Hmmm...short man syndrome anyone! Definitely NOT 5'4!

Watch closely at the end of the scene when he shoots Samuel L. Jackson (Stacks is his name in the film). When he exits the door, you can briefly see a massive 3" Cuban heel on his shoes. Joe257 said on 10/May/09
I believe Joe Pesci is 5'4". What makes him look super short in his movies is that people compare Pesci to the average man (5'10"), and of course he looks much shorter, but if you look at Joe next to the average woman (5'5") he will look about the same height (ignore heels though). Look at his movies, Pesci is much shorter than the men but about the same height as the women, thus making him around 5'4" (give or take an inch).

I agree with gcm. He seems like a smart guy, but not 5ft4. He looks maybe 5ft3...

Yes, people agree movies are no indication of true height but still site comparative height in movies as evidence. Pesci is particularly short - shorter than Spade / and schneider too I think. I can't buy more than 5'2" - 5'3" absolute max. I think Pesci owns every scene he's ever in. He is reported to be incredibly quick witted and highly intelligent. He's in Dudley Moore territory I think. I actually think all 4 I mentioned are scene stealers and likely all pretty intelligent too.

I watched Joe Pesci on the golf channel, when he played a round with Christie Kerr of the LPGA. They were nearly identical in height. On Christie's website, she is listed as 5'3 1/2", so Joe could be 5'4".

i saw him in JFK and, compared to kevin costner, he looked very short. i'd say about 5'2
Donatello said on 2/Jan/09
5'5" is out of the question for this guy. I have a hard time even buying 5'4" for his morning height in his prime. Probably around 5'3" in his prime 5'2" now.
mike said on 20/Jun/08
you cant really trust te hieght of him in movies, as they can add height to actors also hes been known to wear high heeled shoes on occasion, but im sure hes around 5,4

I met him yesterday and had my picture taken with him I am 5'9" he is clearly about 5'5".
david Melton said on 26/Mar/08
Fred Gwynne is 6'5" and the movie about him said he was a foot taller than Joe Pesci.

He was too close to Marisa Tomei's height in bedroom scenes in My Cousin Vinny to be only 5-2

My husband who is 5'9" met DeNiro while working on his Hotel Project in Tribeca a few years ago. I asked him, what's he like? My husband said, "he's small," so I guess DeNiro really is around 5'9" tall. My husband looks a little bit shorter than the average guy walking around so I guess DeNiro is around 5
feet 9 inches. Pesci appears to be quite a bit shorter, but we've never met him.

Yea,he is about about Five feet Four. I just finished watching Casino,Robert
Deniro, who is about Five feet nine, towers over Pesci. Joe is to far away, from
being Devito's height.

coolest guy ever, 5'4 sounds correct. :D

5'4 for his peak looks consistent, but deos anyone know if De Niro wore lifts in "Casino"? The difference between Robert & Joe seemed bigger to me than it did in "Goodfellas".

TJ said on 17/May/06
Melissa. Why would Marisa need to be 3 inches taller if wearing 3 inch heels? Don't forget, Pesci would also be wearing shoes, so you can take off an inch or so for an average heel.

Rubbish that people shrink? You've got to be kidding.

Here's a shrunken Hope with Ford: Click Here
I see at least a five inch difference.

I see no more than two inch difference.

And for those of you who still think Arnold is 5'10" this photo just might wake you up.[Editor Rob: I think you sent me a pic once of an old colleague and yourself showing him to have lost 3 inches?]

5'4 throughout his life till present. I reckon its rubbish that people shrink over the years. Only unless you're Hulk Hogan and your spine is curved from weight lifting or surgery, etc.
trueheight said on 14/Mar/06
well, if you think he's 5'4 now, could he not have been 5'5 20 years ago? not a stretch, is it?

trueheught: Pesci was never 5'5"...you are dreaming my friend. Not in his prime nor today. Rob got him down perfect. 5'4".
MeLiSsA said on 13/Mar/06
The thing is, if him and Marisa Tomei are the same height, then wouldn't she have been 3-4 inches taller than him w/ heels? not 2? I remember her being slightly taller (like 1.5-2 inches)and don't remember her shoes but TNTinCA says they are "good sized heels" so they have to be at least 3 inches. Who really wears 2 inch heels?
trueheight said on 13/Mar/06
He looks really small onscreen b/c there are virtually no 5'4 actors who have substiantial parts, not even 5'5. the 5'2 claims are utterly rediculous. May have been 5'5 in his prime, but certainly no lower than 5'4. Samething w/ seth green; "is a bloody dwarf??" no, he's just a 5'4ish actor, a range audiences are not accustomed to in the least
TNTinCA said on 17/Feb/06
If you watch My Cousin Vinny, Marissa Tomei has some good sized heels on and she is probably around 2 inches taller than Joe in most scenes. I think her flat footed height is around 5'4". That would seem to make Pesci right around the same height.

I don't think that De Niro wores lifts in Casino.(but I can tell you that he wores lifts in Heat). Compare De Niro to Sharon Stone, Don Rickles and others and he looks to me 5 ft 9.
A better movie for comparing De Niro and Pesci is Raging Bull, there are scenes in wich De Niro is barefoot and there are scenes in wich both have shoes, Pesci comes to De Niro's eyes, so let's say De Niro head is 24 cm, pesci comes to his eyes so Pesci 12 cm shorter than Bobby.
Danimal said on 9/Dec/05
An interesting comparison to make is him standing next to Rob Schneider on an SNL skit in the mid-late 90's, whereby Rob was slightly taller than Pesci...Rob is also listed at 5'5"????

He looks about 6 inches shorter than De Niro IMO.
Parker said on 8/Aug/05
Pesci with Mickey Rooney - I'd say approx 2 inches taller.
CoolJ said on 7/Aug/05
I'd say 5'2-5'3" at the most.
Mr. Klaus said on 7/Aug/05
Joe Pesci is in the most sites listed as 5 ft 5 because he comes to De Niro's nose. Sometimes Pesci can look short in his films, Pesci works a lot with Scorsese who likes to use 5 ft 8 + girls in his films like Loraine Bracco (5 ft 9), Sharon Stone (5 ft 8 + 3 inches of her big heels) and Cathy Moriarty (5 ft 9).
Z2 said on 31/Jul/05
Joe Pesci looks tiny on screen. My guess is 5'2"(ish).

Trust me CasperUK, as I'm sure every commenter on this site can confirm that I of all people ALWAYS take footwear into account when measuring a height. I'll try to explain as best I can without rambling... but peoples' heights are still directly proportionate when comparing 2 people in shoes. When they wear heels or lifts, that's when a variable is thrown in. That is why I always take this into account.
Also, I consider a person at their real height with or without shoes. I see a 6'1'' guy, but once he puts shoes on, I dont consider him to be nearly 6'3'' all of a sudden. I'm just over 5'7.5'', and I don't think that I magically transform into 5'9'' when I put on shoes...I'm still the same old short me haha.
That's why I paid close attention to footwaer at Pesci's. Pesci had normal shoes on, while my grandmother who still wears heels at age 73 had larger shoes on than Pesci. She's shrunk nearly 2 inches in her old age, and is now 5'3'' and pesci still looked a strong 5'4'' beside her even though he had a shoe disadvantage. I'm standing firmly by this height, Rob.
CasperUK said on 30/Jun/05
Mr Awesome you have to consider the shoes a person wears, the average shoe a man wears has a median height of 3.7cm, if Pesci is 5'4 (160cm), take that into account and he is just around 5'2.5". You have to consider the footwear a person is wearing, that is why i always like to go for the natural height of a person.
Mr. Awesome said on 16/Jun/05
Pesci lives a few houses down from my grandparents' shore house in New Jersey, so I've met him various times. Periodically he has an open house, one of which I've attended. Compared side-by side to my grandmother who was once just over 5'4'', but now is now 5'3'', Pesci did appear to be a full 5'4'', maybe even a fraction of an inch taller. I have no doubt that he was definitely 5'5'' when he was younger, but still gets listed at that height. Even at his age today, he is certainly not under 5'4''. I seriously think he's 5'4'' right on the dot.
[Editor Rob: yeah I would maybe give Pesci that height...]
CasperUK said on 18/Apr/05
If that! Watch Casino, DeNiro is a solid 5'9 in my opinion and Pesci struggles to make it below his nose. The height between the top of a mans head and top of the ear is around 12-13cm (ie 5") and a person's ear is around 3" so if Pesci is shorter than those then no way can he be 5'3 otherwise he'd be just skimming in the middle of the ears of DeNiro, which he doesnt BTW.
[Editor Rob: There's going to be some variation. In my own case from top of skull to tip of ear is 11cm measured side on ;) Head tilt can make it look different front on...]
