I went to take my physical. But they measured me two inches shorter than I am. They measured me at six foot instead of six foot two. I was eleven pounds overweight for that height. They told me to lose weight and come back. By the time I was scheduled to come back, the draft was abolished.

definitely a big guy in his prime. Easily 6'2 probably a little more. My guess is 6'2 and a quarter easily. Can't believe a few people said 5'11" PEAK...it's not possible that he didn't break 6 ft. 0% chance. I'd be surprised if he was anything below 6'2. Like, I'm 99% sure he was at least 6'2.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Goodman had size 13 shoes or something, like many men do of around my height 6’4”-6’5”. He’s got pretty large proportions and seems a genuinely powerful guy despite his wildly fluctuating weight.

Couldn't guess height, but his footprints at the Grauman's Chinese Theater were enormous. My 9.5 size shoe matched just about dead on with everyone from Bruce Willis to Jack Nicholson to Ben Stiller to Johnny Depp. John's foot had to be a solid 4-5 inches longer than mine. Jeff Bridges surprisingly large too, feet and hands matched up identically with my 6'2 300 lb buddy. They can't be too far off from their estimated heights

Peak was definitely near 6'2, by mid/late 50's with someone like Affleck and Cranston he looked barely 6ft at times, but he could probably squeeze into 184-185 range standing tall at that point. He was noticably taller than someone like Dan Aykroyd when both were near peak, recently he looks very similar to him though so 6ft flat might be possible by now.

I would agree that Goodman appears to be approximately one inch taller than both Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski and Richard Jenkins in Sea of Love. I would give Goodman the flat 6’2” for his peak height.

If he was 6'0 peak then Jeff bridges was 5'11 peak , John turturro is 5'9, Fred Willard was 5'11 peak(many believe he was 6'2 peak), and Denzel Washington was 5'10 or less peak. Sorry but I really doubt he was as low as 6'0 peak.

And bill is probably at best 6 ffot 1 today with a peak of legit 186. Also 188-189 ben affleck had him by 3,5 cm back in 2012. That means he was 185 cm 6 years back. And if we look back 15 years then he still looked like a 188 guy. Keep in mind Goodman often slouched in the film, but an 8" difference is definitely believable in wide shots. You all need to realize that a 6’0.5 barefoot guy passes for 6’2” or can claim it and no one will question if it’s in shoes. I know someone 6’2.5 that claims 6’4” and while many do they don’t say it to his face but when they do he denies it. It takes actually pulling a tape measure on him which I may do one day lol

As to the poster doubting John was measured wrong I've got a cousin who is about 6'2'' and he got measured at a works physical as 5'11''. He told the lady doing the physical he was taller but she told him he wasn't. I know my heights I'm not a guy who mistakes 5'10'' for 6ft as some do. So errors can happen with these things. How I don't know.

I've read several 6'3" claims for him during his Roseanne days. He used to average between 280 and 335 pounds while on Roseanne. He was reported to have gone up to 400-450 pounds at his heaviest in the late 2000's and that is what I believe made him have a steeper height loss than the average male of his age. He was bare minimum 6'2" during his prime and could have been close to 6'3, but today at 65 years old and very thin, he's max 6'1" imo and could as low as 6'0".

I've seen Goodman in person, albeit on a stage not equal footing, about 8 years ago with all the other main actors for the Big Lebowski next to a big 6'4" guy like T Bone Burnett and he still looked 6'0.5" with bad posture, very similar to Jeff Bridges and John Turturro up there.

Charlie, below, is right. I'm 6-foot even myself. I saw John Goodman walking into a Delta airlines lounge in Atlanta about 13 years ago and he was significantly shorter than me. I'd say 5'9" is about right.

John Goodman is not that tall.He looked the same height perhaps a half inch taller than William Forsythe in Raising Arizona and William looks 5'8 standing beside Rob Paul.I own the Movie Raising Arizona and i have paused the movie where ever i seen the 3 guys standing side by side.3 guys meaning John Goodman, William Forsythe and Nicholas Cage. John Goodman is at most 5'9 today. It wouldn't surprise me non if he was 5'8 the same height as Rob Paul. You guys go watch Raising Arizona and tell me if i'm wrong or not. In the film Fallen (1998) John Goodman and Denzel Washington are talking to a linguist, there is a height marker on the wall and Goodman is roughly 74 inches. Definitely not at the 75 inch mark and the camera is filming low. He's in dress shoes so 6ft 1 flat maximum.

I'd say both his peak and current listings are accurate. I recall in the late 2000s he started a dramatic weight loss but I've noticed some pretty dramatic weight fluctuations. He looked like he went up and down at least 30 pounds a couple years ago and is looking somewhat slimmer again recently.

MrTBlack,it's possible,especially if it's an ancient and improperly calibrated instrument. They measured me at the age of 19 at 5ft11.5 (181.5), in the morning. They got it wrong by an inch. I'm 6ft0.75 out of bed and 5ft11.75in as my absolute low.
Even if I neglect that, the fact is that even at the age of 14 I got measured at 5ft11.75in.
So yes, mistakes are possible.

Alot OF Times the height scale actually starts like 2-3 inches off the ground so you'll be measured like 2-3 inches shorter. i know i'm 6'5'' cause i stood next to a friend of mine whose 6'3'' and there was a noticeable difference

They don't measure wrong at a physical do they, so maybe he remembered being 6'2 and the thought of losing height just didn't accur to him. I ran into him at a restaurant several years back, he's several inches taller than my 5'10".
I'm going to say 6'2"-3". It's the width that throws off a lot of people's guesses. I have a co-worker of a similar build claiming 6'5" (I can look directly at his chin), and I'm sure he's got almost 2" on John (I think I was looking nose level).
Don't know about what Bear says about how hung, but a few of those Flintstones publicity shots and John's sporting a sundial that is NOT on his arm, there! Look for the one with him leaning on the mailbox for an example. Maybe his girth is hiding/overshadowing it the rest of the time and/or he's really a grower? He had to be doubling up underwear in the "Everybody's All-American" hotel party scene. Probably the best place to compare his height, as he's down to boxers.
There are also some recent "Speed Racer" cast publicity shots to compare his slimmer build to Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, and Emile Hirsch.

I'm going to say 6'2"-3". It's the width that throws off a lot of people's guesses. I have a co-worker of a similar build claiming 6'5" (I can look directly at his chin), and I'm sure he's got almost 2" on John (I think I was looking nose level).
Don't know about what Bear says about how hung, but a few of those Flintstones publicity shots and John's sporting a sundial that is NOT on his arm, there! Look for the one with him leaning on the mailbox for an example. Maybe his girth is hiding/overshadowing it the rest of the time and/or he's really a grower? He had to be doubling up underwear in the "Everybody's All-American" hotel party scene. Probably the best place to compare his height, as he's down to boxers.
There are also some recent "Speed Racer" cast publicity shots to compare his slimmer build to Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, and Emile Hirsch.
(and you can start a drinking game with his weight fluctuations in that movie!)

6'2 seems right to me. In the Big Lebowsky he is taller than Jeff bridges, and Jeff is 6'1. How can he be 5'10? Being a big/fat guy, he may mislead anyone to think he is shorter because of the posture, that is it

He maybe looks just 6ft here. Been reading through the posts. How can people be saying his posture is "horrendous"etc in this picture. Looks 5ft11-6ft if he straightens his head here but with all that extra weight he carries around it has obviously affected his height. Gravity is going to pull down a big man like that. Maybe he was once 6ft 2, maybe if he was stretched out he'd be that height.

Thing is, Goodman looked 6-2 to me in the last movie I saw him in. It was that Kevin Bacon vigilante movie. Goodman was hillarious in it. Goodman is awesome in these cameo comedic roles.

Peak height may well have been 6'2" but I'm sure he's probably lost an inch or more since then. I'd say 184 cm -185 cm (6.05" - 6'1") could be right for his current height.

glen looks 6" in this picture but john goodman never stands straight he always walks with his back down, i saw him at the hard rock once iam 6"2 and he was atleast maybe 2 or 1 inches shorter than me. But in roseane he always walks straight but that was more than 20 years ago when he was young.
