If you're as tall as I am, 5ft 7in, you've got to work out your own method. There weren't any models for tall jockeys like me in my time. Gordon Richards was small even as jockeys go: he could do eight stone without effort. There's an advantage in being tall, big: I think it's my main one. A horse responds to a good weight on its back, live weight - not dead weight, lead, under the saddle - to make up the right scale. When a biggish jockey gets up, the chances are that the horse feels, well, authority.

I can believe he’s lost 2”, my grandfather is 5’5.5 nowadays and was reportedly 5’7 in his prime. He’s heavier than Lester, but less active and grandpa is 71

Rob's standing a bit closer to the camera, so about 5'5" is fine. But both the peak and current average guesses are too high.

Not buying 5'5" flat, maybe a bit more, but I care more about why the guy lost 2 inches in height. I thought shorter men lose less height as they age. I mean, 5'7" isn't what I'd call that short, but it's not a height where you should be losing that much by old age.

When you've been a jockey and your body has rode horses thousands of times, that might increase wear & tear and back issues.

Lester looks about 5ft4.75 here, and I'll have to take Rob's word for it that he was once 5ft7!

He is probably between 5'4.5" and 5'5". Yes he was tall for a Jockey when he was 5'7"!

Spot on listing. Exactly a 8 cm difference.

Rob's not looking over this guy's head. 5'5 is spot on.

5'7" is tall for a jockey, period. And this looks like a solid 4-inch difference to me. I'd say he's 5'4" now and maybe 5'6" or 7 at peak.

Surprising, most jockeys are 5'2"-5'4" range. 5'7 peak is tall for a jockey!!

I had always heard he was tall for a jockey at 5'7". He may have been near that at peak.

He was always listed as 5'7.5" but I never believed it, now the proof of the pudding is in the eating, he looks at least 4" shorter than Rob in that picture, probably even more.

So this guy was listed as being "famously tall at 5'8" ? Yeah right, Lol. Come on he looks barely 5'4.5 not even considering how Rob is slouching. Unless he lost a good 4 inches he probably wasn't over a 5'5.5 - 5'6 peak (which is still tall for a jockey). How tall did he appear to you Rob when your postures were straight?

I think five five at most and chance bit under
