I have decided that yes, I do like him overall in this production, 'The Enfield Haunting'! He cracked a smile and he takes his work seriously. Next to Timothy Spall's character, he is the best that family have so far in their chances of receiving proper help. We are talking about a woman who is bringing 4 kids up on her own, and even in those days, there was still a stigma attached to it....
PS I can't believe that nobody has written on this Guy's* page since I have been here!
😝 * Yes, there is a pun and yes, along with the part he's playing, it was intentional!

Matthew plays a tall and serious, if slightly unfriendly person, in the series 'The Enfield Haunting'. He stars as Guy Playfair, author of the book 'This House is Haunted', which was based on what he witnessed while co-investigating the 1977 incident which took place in Enfield, Essex, England. I remember reading about it in the papers and seeing the black and white picture of the frightened 11-year-old girl being thrown through the air. I never once questioned the authenticity of the incident, even at the young age I was.
Compared to Timothy Spall, who must be around 5ft7, Matthew looks very tall, but he does with all the members of the cast, which includes German actress Franka Potenta as a less-than-likeable sceptic.
This is the first time I have properly taken in Matthew's height and acting ability. I've never watched 'Spooks', but I've seen him in 'Ripper Street'.
I will happily give Matt 6ft2.5. He's an interesting actor.

Rob, what are the chances of you meeting this guy?
I know you've met his wife whose 5ft8-9. I think he could be a fraction under this maybe...
Editor Rob: wouldn't rule out the chances.

There's actually very little difference between Stevenson and MacFadyen.

I met him him whilst he was filming P&P near my town in 2004. I stood next to him whilst he signed an autograph, I was 17 then and about 6'4" and I was easily around the same height if not a smidge taller.

Like cohenite said, Stevenson looks a lot taller in "The Three Musketeers", but Matthew still towers over everyone else. Footwear, maybe? Stevenson's character is supposed to be a giant, after all.
I can buy 6'3".

Ray Stevenson towers over Matthew; Ray is listed at 6 4.

well, it's possible that he's 6'3", but to my eyes, he doesn't look 3 inches taller than 6'0" Jerome Flynn in the "Ripper Street" TV series, probably around two inches taller tops. As others have said likely around 6'2", though he doesn't appear to have wonderful posture and could be taller if someone stretched him out..!

He was the same height as Hugh Laurie on an episode of MI-5.

He looked maybe slightly taller than 6'3" Oliver Platt in Frost/Nixon, although Platt may slouch with his weight.

I'd say he was taller than 6 ft. 2, by an inch or so. His wife, Keeley Hawes, is 5'8/9 ish and she's at least a head and a bit shorter than him and I wouldn't say she was short.

i think he's taller than that, maybe 6'3 or 4...but he's a good actor, especially in pride and prejudice..

official bio says he's 6' 3" , and I believe he's that or more after watching "The Way We Live Now" (and if you've seen his DVD extra for "In My Father's Den" you know he's quite uncomfortable talking about himself for the camera.)

6-2 sounds correct for him, because he is clearly a big man.
It would really interest me, what type of person he is.

i loved this movie...they actually did a good job keeping his height fairly normal-looking, and i really wish they did more dvd interviews with him!

Having met him twice I can say he is definately 6'2''!!

I read somewhere that he might actually be closer to 6'3". I'm willing to believe he might be closer to Donald Sutherland's height (listed here as 6'3.5"). In the picture below, he looks about an inch taller than Donald who is leaning in (taking off about an inch from his own height). Seems to me they're the same height.
In the "Pride & Prejudice" promotional interviews, the cast members and director take turns stressing how very tall Matthew Macfadyen is. While 6'2" is no palsy figure, most guys aren't considered to be phenomenally long-legged until they've reached 6'3" or 6'4".

to the editor: THANK YOU for putting his height here!! he really does look about 7" taller than Keira Knightley in P&P.
