@cole Yes, at all these pictures it's hard to judge correctly, but I can clearly to see a difference even with bad postures and positions, not big but at least 1-2 cm. I hope too=)

@Alex: I didn't see a lot of usable shots in that search to argue much, mostly just pics of Matt in thinner footwear standing in his usual care free stance, and Gosling standing quite some distance away from him. Hope there'll be a couple of decent full body shots of just Gosling and Matt soon. My bet is they would look pretty close, Gosling most likely having the edge.

He has a small torso and does minimise his upper body posture-wise, but his overall proportions (head to total height), look to be that of a man taller that a flat 6. That's true even when he is barefoot, which hardly suggests boosted footwear Everything looks very compatible with him being comfortably over six foot. Look at him walking with Eva Mendes, with her in 3 inch heels their kneecaps were at the same height. On the rare occasion she didn't wear really high heels, her head was barely above his shoulder. No question he is shorter that 6'3'' Will Ferrell*, based on a sketch they did, but anyone can see Ferrell can't have anything like a clear 3 inches of height on Gosling. No need to even mention 187-188 cm range. That's just... not even close...

Seahawksfan, I think he is a strong 6'1'' with NORMAL actor's posture. Alongside Cranston, Gosling wasn't strainedly standing tall he was in motion just walking relaxedly. He really has consistantly minimising posture for a leading man. The neck and shoulders are carried low, and he bends forward at the waist a little bit when he walks too. Another close look at Drive: in garage at the beginning of Drive when Gosling collects the car from Cranstone, Gosling is further from the camera as they walk, but seems to have more than 2 inches on Cranston. And at the race track he definitely does, despite the fact that Gosling's head is down looking down while taking off his gloves as they walk to meet Brooks's character. Gosling does not have a big framed upper body (narrow shoulders) so I was too hasty about his 150 lb at the age of 29 ruling out 6'1''. Conclusion: an under the radar rock solid 6'1''. Clooney would hardly be calling an actor over 6 foot 'a lot smaller than you would think' except as an ironic reference to his own surprise at how tall Gosling actually is.

Someone with a lot o' neck and a bit of a slouch can easily conceal nearly an inch of real height; Gosling is young enough that he proly hasn't permanently lost height through though habitual bad posture . Unlikely someone who doesn't bother standing tall uses footwear boosting dress shoes at premieres. I think he may be very very near six one if he was to use the kind of posture that actors routinely do use. Gosling looks very much closer to 6'1'' than 6' while facing Biberi in the park scene of Drive. Moreover, Gosling uses his trademark in this film of keeping his hands in the pocket of his jacket so he has no posture advantage over Biberi. And Biberi, listed at 6'4'', has thick soled trainers on, while Gosling has low heel shoes. Yet I can't see Gosling being any more than 3 inches shorter. With the kind of posture that Charles Bronson used, Gosling might be able to deploy a reserve half an inch, making him as near a full 6'1'' as makes no difference. So I would not rule it out.

My boyfriend's height is not a guess, I've seen him measured at the hospital before he had knee surgery, BAREFOOT. People, please take my word for it.

Looking at all the pictures of Gosling and Cooper, you get the impression that they are closer in height than some of the oft-posted ones that seem to show Cooper as inches taller. I think it is possible that Cooper is a tad taller than Gosling but not by a whole lot.

@truth: Generally I feel the 180 cm flat is maybe too low a guess, but he has looked it at times, so that's why I mentioned it as the lowest height he has ever appeared (at least to me). Realisticly though I'd say he could be a 6ft flat guy, with a chance of 182 cm, like Balrog said.

Since I'm not anywhere near 100% positive, my "roughly-estimations" would be:

But the point was to prove that they appear similar, and at the sime time try to hinder that someone will try to say for example: "Cooper is at least 1.5in taller than Gosling", or something like that. Looking at that picture you're not able to say that one is noticably taller than the other.

I would say 6' is more likely than 5'10". Just a fraction over 5'11", in my opionion. Always looks slightly taller than 5'10-11" guys.

Anyway, he was just about the same height as my boyfriend, who is 6' (I know my boyfriend is 6' exactly because I watched the doctor measure him). I've also met a few other actors who claim to be taller than they are. People always add inches. I am guessed to be 5'7 ALL the time, but I'm exactly 5'5. Sorry for rambling, anyway this time it was right, he is 6'.

This is why I think he could be 5'11.5. But I am not ruling out 5'11 or 6', as that is the range I see him in, no shorter than 5'11 and no taller than 6'.

In Gangster Squad next to legit 6'1 flat Sullivan Stapleton, Ryan looked more than just 1 cm shorter. In Lars And The Real girl he looked basically the same height as 5'11.5 Paul Schneider. And I've seen him look about the same height as 6' Billy Zane, and close in height with 6' Cliff Curtis.
This is why I think he could be 5'11.5. But I am not ruling out 5'11 or 6', as that is the range I see him in, no shorter than 5'11 and no taller than 6'.

And even from that same set of pictures you can find examples where Gosling actually looks taller than Cooper, but I don't think that's the case, they look very close in height as Rob also seem to think. But what I cannot really believe is that they are both close to 184-185 cm, they both look shorter than that too often imo, next to for example 6'2 Dax Shepard and 6'2 Will Ferrell. I'd imagine Bradley would measure about 182,5 cm at some point of the day, and Gosling possibly 181,5 or close to 182 cm flat.
Check my latest post with behind the scenes photos of Gosling and Fassbender, and see that there's clearly not 4 cm between the two, if anything they could look the same height when Gosling as slightly bigger footwear.

This guy is one fascinating height specimen. In every photo he seems to look a slightly different height. He doesn't have the proportions of someone 6' or above and in the photos where he looks that tall his proportions are off I.e. his shins look weirdly long.
I would bet my bottom $10 that he's a frequent lift wearer and we just haven't caught it yet. He really looks 5'11 to me and with lifts makes him hover close to 6'1, just like Brad Pitt.

The amount of downgrading this guy gets is ridiculous. He's taller than Ron Perlman, who's listed as 6' here. He's taller than the 5'11.5" David Strathairn and the 6' Cliff Curtis in Fracture. Will Ferrel is closer to 6'3" than 6'2". This listing is spot on.

Think what you want, but roughly 5'11 fits for both of them when you look at the evidence. In my mind Ed Helms is pretty pinned down at 5'11.25 (might be 5'11.5 with his best posture), looked it with Kurtwood, Riley and others, Cooper was the same height or shorter when barefoot. He also looks no taller than 6ft with Kellan Lutz, and shorter than 6ft with Dax Shepard.
Gosling with Steve Carell, George Clooney, Bryan Cranston and Evan Rachel Wood proves 6'0.5 is very, very generous, unless (and this is so unlikely I have no idea why I'm even mentioning it) everyone around him is wearing lifts... 5'11

Think what you want, but roughly 5'11 fits for both of them when you look at the evidence. In my mind Ed Helms is pretty pinned down at 5'11.25 (might be 5'11.5 with his best posture), looked it with Kurtwood, Riley and others, Cooper was the same height or shorter when barefoot. He also looks no taller than 6ft with Kellan Lutz, and shorter than 6ft with Dax Shepard.
Gosling with Steve Carell, George Clooney, Bryan Cranston and Evan Rachel Wood proves 6'0.5 is very, very generous, unless (and this is so unlikely I have no idea why I'm even mentioning it) everyone around him is wearing lifts... 5'11

But for now I am going with 180 cm for Ryan Gosling, because he looks it with 5'8/9-guys like Carell and 5'10-guys like Bryan Cranston and George Clooney. There's SO many horrible pics out there of Gosling, being used to argue his real height. The tiptoeing and boots suggest he has a bit of a height complex, for some reason. He's probably 5'11, but with his lean frame, and with the right footwear, he pulls off 6'0.5. I don't trust any listing until I see JUST ONE solid pic of him, as a whole, looking around 6'1. As for now, the only pics of that nature are the ones making him look around 5'11, which in return is what I'm currently estimating him at.

Personally I think both listings are wrong, they're both shorter than 184cm. I could buy Gosling at 180cm and Cooper at 182cm.

Rob I more or less always agree with your listings, but this one you've got wrong. I just don't know what has gotten you to belive he's this close to 6'1. With Carell, with Cranston, with Cooper, with Clooney and with Gyllenhaal he looks nothing over 180-181 cm.

It's really hard to tell with 5-11 to 6-1 guys. I was recently taken a few picture at high-school anniversary. On a few pictures I look almost 2 inches taller than my friend who is very close to my height , I can't really tell if he is 1 cm shorter or we are the same. I also look as tall as my 6-1 friend, whom I personally measured at 6-1 in the afternoon.
Than on another picture first friend (who is probably same height as me or shorter) looks 0.5 inch taller as I am bit hunched forward, but not that significantly. So it is really hard to tell.
I am also wearing pretty solid 1 inch shoes while friends could only be wearing 0.75 inch.
What I am saying is you can't really judge height by pictures, a little looser posture can make you look as much 2 inches shorter and it is not even that obvious.

5'11 guys can easily look 6' in films though with all the fancy angles. Look at pics with Ryan next to Steve Carrel, there is no more than a 2 inch difference and Carrel is def not taller than 5'9.
