Rob I just read an interview with Shia’s father where he recounts his attempted rape charge and says something like “I’m 6’3 and the girls 5’2” so I googled pics of him and he looks max a couple inches taller than Shia in every pic I’ve seen of them together. Any chance the man is actually that tall? Or maybe Shia’s taller than 5’9 and so the height difference doesn’t appear that great?

I have to say, the camera angle makes it look like Shia is at a minimum of 5 foot 9. His shoes make him appear at least 5'10 here. Could pass for 5'9 - 5'9 1/8 cus of it. If these weren’t what I thought he looked like & the camera angle was adjusted to make them more ‘normalized’, then it would be plausible that, along with many other height enthusiasts, I could give him a slightly lower mark.
But overall, I’d say he would look 5'8 3/4 - 5'9 1/4 depending on footwear, camera angle & posture, for some.

Rob, If you look at pictures of Shia with 5’8 Margaret Qualley they are almost identical when wearing similar shoes and walking side by side. Either she is taller than 5’8 or he is not 5’9.

Perhaps Mr. LaBeouf would be a perfect time to introduce a new standard of measurement.
The "Hollywood 5'8"" (173cm) which could like the eponymous reference for all height challenged celebrities that want a toe - hold on height normalcy...They could be anything from 5'5" (165cm) onward, and claim it, as shoes, posture, who you are standing next to (they are probably lying about their height, as well) can do the rest for you.
An alternative - call it "the Cruise", or "the LaBeouf"...naw, lets' stick with "the Cruise"

I literally just got back from his free acting school Slauson rec. He is at least 5' 9 I'm solid 5'7 5'8 in the morning even and had sneakers on he had converse on so very thin soles. and he was alteast 2 inches taller than me. Solid 5'9 no less.

Met Shia during his last art installation in NY. I am 5'8 and was wearing Nikes and he was wearing the same and had about an inch and a half on me. I would confidently put him at 5'9 and a half. If there truly were nothing in it between these two (under 5mm), the difference wouldn't be quite so obvious. Either time to upgrade Hardy to 176 or downgrade Shia to 174, which I believe fits him much better.

Editor Rob Sully, he usually always looks above 5ft 8 to me, apart from odd occasions...but mostly near 5ft 9. That could mean though, there is a chance he is a little shy of it.

I agree with James St. 173 for Shia makes sense. Also, Robert Redford has always been notoriously short. He's the gran'daddy of lifting. He practically invented it. He was even wearing Stilletos in Barefoot in the Park. Dude makes RDJr look like a ascetic shoe-less fire-walker.

Oh, he's much more around 160lbs these days. The media made some ridiculous claims back in 2012 that he'd put on anywhere from 30 to 60 pounds for a role, and he'd claimed 130lbs as that same year - which would only make sense with him being shorter, because he's never looked that thin as an adult. Aside from that, though, it's pretty clear to me he's filled in quite a bit just naturally becoming more mature and he's around 160lbs.

Met Shia last week during his "take me anywhere" experiment. I am 5'7 and 3/4 and was wearing 2 inch booties and He was exactly my height. 5'9 is spot on.
I'd also like to note that he was slouched over the entire time - as he appears to be in most pics. So maybe that's why a lot of people aren't convinced of him being 5'9. But he is.

I met shia back in June 2010 when he was filming transformers in a building that I worked at. I was so stoked when I saw him. I'm 5'9- I towered over him. Honestly he's no taller 5'7. Carrie mulligan visited the set and she was no taller than 5'5. I was disappointed. I kinda wish I never met him. Hes a little guy.

Shia was in my work today and a friend of mine got to meet him. I asked how tall he was and he said a little taller than me. I'm about 5'11. He must be wearing some pretty big boots and lifts to be taller than me.

Those of you who are saying Rosie was towering over Shia in T3. She was wearing heals in the entire movie other than the opening scene when Shia is in bed. Even when she was running around Chicago! Below are a couple pics that clearly show Shia a bit taller and she is obviously not wearing heals. Could Rosie be stretching her 5'9 frame or could she be more like 5'8 since models want to be taller. Check out pics of her and Jason, they are nearly the same height and Jason is pretty short. I date a model who is 5.9 and i am 5'11. She always wears 5'" heals and many of our friends think she is taller than me, then i make her take her heals off and bam, i am taller! Point is, you can't compare a man's height by comparing them standing to a woman. Most women wear heals.
