Maybe, he was a flat 5'6" at one point, but he doesn't look much shorter than his peak today. Pacino has always been tiny, even when he wore lifts in The Godfather, big heels in Scarface, Carlito's Way and The Devil's Advocate.

I just saw Al Pacino in Malibu. I didn't recognize him at first, but I first noticed his elevator shoes. With the shoes he's about 5'7". And, without the shoes he's got to be no more than 5'5". In The Devil's Advocate Pacino wears heels that look to add over 2 inches and you can see that he's still completely dwarfed by 6'1" Keanu Reeves. I suspect that 5'6" could be a little generous. If you research, men lose on average 1/4 of an inch in height every 10 years after the age of 40; since he is pushing 70 yrs.of age, he could have been close to an inch taller in his younger days. That said, he does look quite short in a number of scenes in Sea of Love and the beginning of Scarface when he is not wearing boots. Even though it's fun to talk about this one or that ones height it always boils down

In the godfather 2, he was wearing lifts and he was still not that much taller than the actor who played Hyman Roth, and this actor was about 5'4. In the godfather 3, he looked maybe 5 inches shorter than 5'9-5'10 Andy Garcia. He was also about 5 inches shorter than 5'9-5'10 James Caan. With lifts, he could get away with 5'7, maybe. Forget his height. Is it just me or is that rug he wears one of the worst out there? I mean people made constant fun of Shatners' carpet. Height was defintley never an issure for Pacino because of his talent. He's probably my favorite actor of all time. But I never understand how a lot of people think he looks 5'7". Well atleast it's better than Ben Stiller often getting listed at 5'8".
What's ridiculous is I remember reading an article on heights that had Stallone at 5'7", Robert Redford at 5'8" and in the same article Pacino at 5'7" and Ben Stiller at 5'8". In the old days of Hollywood nearly every male actor wore lifts. Leading men had to look tall next to their partners, guys like Bogart did almost everything from camera angles to huge platform shoes to look bigger. In the generation change of the late 1960s - early 1970s when people like Pacino, Dustin Hoffmann or Peter Falk became stars it wasn't a huge disadvantage for these "average guys" to be short anymore. Sometimes I swear Al looks 5-5 max. In the Godfather he was just towered by a 5-10 James Caan by probably 5 inches. I've heard people speculate that Caan wore lifts, but it's a known fact that Pacino did as well in that film.
Then what also fuels my short theories are the fact that Sean Penn barefoot was taller than Pacino in 2" cowboy boots in Carlito's Way! How tall is Penn? 5-7 or 5-8? Not to mention that in 2" or 2.5" heels Pacino still looked tiny in Scarface. Even with the heels I could swear he looked 5'4", 5'5" sometimes! For years I thought Steven Bauer was huge because of how he towered over Pacino. Then in the Devil's Advocate even with some huge shoes, 6-1 Keanu Reeves looked nearly a head taller than him.
I have no problem with 5'6" for Al, but sometimes he really struggles with that height. Regardless of height he may be my favorite actor though, so this is nothing against him.
