@Jawilder: sort of similar yes. Looking at him physically he doesn’t look 6’4 like someone like Brady would
Jawilder said on 14/Feb/23
@Canson So he’s exactly an inch shorter than you. Did you feel super similar to him in height? An inch is tricky, can feel super close most the time and sometimes it’s a pretty noticeable difference. Like with my brother. We are exactly 1.25 inch apart and sometimes I legit feel identical to him, he does have a higher eye level than me to be fair but we look extremely similar height in person. I’m sure Alex can attest when he met my brother.

@Rockaway: that’s what he measured
Rockaway said on 12/Feb/23
@Canson

Disagree. There isn’t 3/4 inch between him and Brady. And Brady is definitely 6’4, probably slightly over around lunch time. 6’3.5 min for Marino
Canson said on 10/Aug/22
@Rockaway: he measured 6’3.25”. That’s probably his peak afternoon height (6’4 out of bed)
Rockaway said on 7/Jul/22
Needs an upgrade to at least 6’3.5

@hong movies aren't always an accurate representation of height, you don't know what footwear marino was wearing, he may have been using lifts, camera angles, etc etc, I do agree though that theres no way marino is only 6'3.25, i would place him at 6'3.75 at least.

I agree, Marino needs a slight upgrade. Anything under a peak 6’3.625” is too low.

@RP: he measured 6’3.25 after he measured 6’3 5/8”. He didn’t grow but the latter was likely a morning measurement whereas the former an afternoon
Canson said on 30/May/20
@Viper: correct. We would assume the 6’3.25” is the correct measurement.

Brady is probably more 6’4” flat afternoon height. I guessed Marino being an inch shorter than me. If we use a lunchtime height maybe He could’ve been 191-192 range but I doubt 192-193. Really 6’3.25 is probably his afternoon height

In almost every photo with the 6'4 and 1/4" Tom Brady, Marino appears even or almost even with Tom and in some cases with Tom's cleets on Marino still is close to Brady's height. Even in recent years (see the Matthew Robinson photo below). I would say prime years Marino was always close to 6'4" or slightly below it. Marino is now closer to 60 years old (in 1 more year).

Bradley, correct ...was always noticebly taller than 6’3” listed QB’s...and marginally taller than a lot of the 6’4” listed QB’s from the 1980’s & 1990’s. I feel Rob has him underlisted by a 1/2” inch...IMO. It’s known fact that Marino’s 6’3-5/8” & 6’3-1/4” measurements we taken at age 20 & 21. I truly think Marino continued to slightly grow in height up until age 22-23. And finally settled in @ 6 3-3/4” barefoot (minimum) he was not AT LEAST 6’3.75” barefoot??...Then every single 6’4” & 6’3” NFL player in the NFL during his era (1983-1999) were over listed by 1/2” to 1” across the board! Rob, you have Troy Aikman listed @ 6’3-1/2” ??? And Marino was a fraction taller than Troy Aikman from 1989-1999. It always looked like Marino was 1/4” taller, when the two men would meet up on the field in equal footwear.
Bradley said on 6/Dec/18
Met him in '84 in Miami. As listed. He's really big compared to other 6-3 QB's.
Canson said on 24/Sep/18
@RP: I doubt he was ever that tall. He measured 6’3 5/8 and 6’3.25. At his age I doubt he has lost that much height. I think peak was a strong 6’3”.
RP said on 22/Sep/18
Canson,
That means a very good chance a peak 1980’s & 1990’s Dan Marino was 6’3-3/4” and the 2008, 47 year old Marino was down to your estimated 6’3-1/4” to 6’3-1/2” ?? Because he absolutely looked at least 6’3-3/4” from 1983-1999 when standing beside other known measured QB’s of that era.
Canson said on 16/Sep/18
@Viper: he’s no less than a solid 6’3. Probably even stronger 6’3”

Rob, I just watched highlights & videos from the 1991 & 1992 NFL QB Challenges. Marino, Elway, Aikman, Kodak, O’Brien, Brister, Moon, Harbaugh, Everett, Esiason Kelly, Cunningham, Hostetler & a few other.
Notes:
Marino a full strong inch taller than Elway & Jim Kelly (both listed @ 6’3” by the NFL)
Marino was a fraction taller than Aikman, looked 0.25” to 0.5” taller. Aikman listed @ 6’4” by the NFL & 6’3-1/2” by you.
He looked one inch taller than Warren Moon. He looked 0.5” shorter than 6’5” listed Kosar. Looked 1.25” shorter than 6’5” listed Jim Everett. Looked the same height as 6’4” listed Randall Cunningham. If Troy Aikman is 6’3.5” ?? Then Marino at the very least is 6’3.75”?? Or Aikman’s true barefoot height is only 6’3” flat!! Go google & watch the evidence if you don’t believe me. Marino was also measured barefoot his Junior year @ The University of Pittsburg @ 6’3-5/8”. Rob, you have both Marino & Montana listed about 0.5” too low.
Mayfield said on 10/May/18
I've noticed in that tidbit where the 6'3 1/4 listing for Marino comes from, there's also John Elway at 6'2 1/2, another big name QB worthy of a page
Canson said on 26/Mar/18
@RP: I think Favre at 6’2 is consistent and Marino is 6’3 and change. I can say 6’3 1/2” is the most I could buy. Could be 6!3.25. But manning I figured looked around his because his pro day was 6’5 3/8 I believe.
RP said on 25/Mar/18
Rob,
You Have Peyton Manning listed at 6'5-1/4"...well, Dan Marino in the two seasons he faced Manning twice a year in 1998 & 1999 was not a full 2" shorter than Manning. You have Troy Aikman listed at 6'3-1/2"...and Dan in the late 1980's to mid 90's was 1/4" to 1/2" taller than Troy??? Favre is listed at 6'2-1/8" to 6'2-1/4...Marino was more than one inch taller than Favre in the early to mid 1990's?? So?? Something isn't making sense??
Editor Rob
Favre was measured 6ft 2 flat at the combine.
RP said on 24/Mar/18
Rob, why the random 1/4" drop?
Editor Rob
I'm going with the 6ft 3.25 measurement...
Canson said on 24/Feb/18
@RP: correct 6’5 out of bed 6’4 1/4-1/3 at night. I would put Marino at about 6’3.25-.5. Yea out of bed I’d say he is an easy 6’4”.
RP said on 18/Feb/18
Canson:
Aren't you a legit 6'5" early morning barefoot? With Dan Being an inch shorter than you, would you give Marino 6'4" morning & 6 3.5" night ??
Canson said on 13/Feb/18
6’3 5/8 could be a morning height. I met Marino a long time ago and he was about an inch shorter. I could give him a claim of 6’3.5 but him measuring at a low is another story could just be 6’3.25. Since Rob has him listed 6’3.5 a guy at 6’4.25 at a low isn’t gonna deny him that claim esp being I claimed 6’4.5 for the longest and used to measure a mm or two higher at my low than I do today
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 18/Jan/18

Canson said on 2/Sep/17
Long for sure wasn't 6'5. Not as tall as Jim Brown who is about 6'5"
Canson said on 2/Sep/17
@RP: seeing him next to guys like Marino or Thomas I'd put Taylor 6'5" and change maybe 6'5.5 doubt he's a full 6'6" but may be surprised!

As for Marino strong 6'3". 6'3.25-.5. Not saying he wasn't a full half or over peak as I met him after he had finished playing but I doubt he had lost much height. He would clear 6'4 or at least touch 6'4 in the morning when he wakes up
RP said on 12/Aug/17
Rob,
Now that he's in the hall of fame...how about a Jason Taylor page?
6'6" or, 6'5.75" ??? Thoughts???
Editor Rob
I'm not so familiar with him.

Having met him along with James Brown both (different times) Marino looks 191/192 in person (around 6'3.25-.5) while Brown is 195-195.5 (6'4.75-6'5). Brown is definitely a good 1/2" or so taller than me while Marino is probably an inch shorter. Peak may have been a full on 192. I met him after he retired

Borats Chicken & Rob:
Go to google images & search "NFL QB 1993 Zubaz Pics"...it has many of the top QB's from the early to mid 1990's all standing together in equal footwear (sneakers)...when Marino or Aikman aren't leaning...they look the exact same height. And they both look a solid 1" taller than all of the 6'3" guys. There are dozens of pics from multiple angles during that photo shoot from February 1993.

Six foot two and change. Which would make him six foot four, as billed for the sports/entertainment industry, when he was wearing his cleats. I say six foot two and change because I have a good buddy who was at a golf tournament where Marino played. My buddy stood next to him for a photo on even ground and even footwear. My buddy is six foot four and 3/4's and he had at least two if not more inches on Marino. But then if my buddy had played in the entertainment industry that is the NFL, he would have been billed as six foot six...

Howie Long was supposedly measured @ 6'4-1/2" coming out of Villanova. And wow! Look how much height Terry Bradshaw has lost! His peak was reportedly 6'2"...he looks 5'11.5" now!

---

Yeah I instantly noticed how short Bradshaw looked... He even got listed as high as 6'3" in the past! Today it looks like he couldn't be anything more than 6'0", don't know about his peak height though. I'm guessing he was at least very close to 6'2" in his playing days.

Matthew, Brady measured 6'4-3/8" (6'4.375") barefoot at the NFL Combine ... lookes 0.75" taller than Marino ...factor in posture ,, maybe 1"...factor in football cleats having an 1/8" to 1/4" footwear advantage over dress shoes ...we are back down to 0.75" given us a 6'3-5/8" (6'3.625") Marino @ age 54 when this pic was taking last season during week 17 Dolphins vs Patriots. The majority of 50 + year old former pro football players have all lost at least a 1/2" off of their peak heights. I'll stand by my original comments & beliefs
20 year old Marino in April 1982: 6'3.625"
Peak Marino ages 22-40: 6'4"
Current Marino: 6'3.5" to 6'3.625"

*note:
The 1982 NFL Draft Scout article came out in a magazine in October 1982...Measurements info where taken from Marino's 1982 Pittsburgh Panthers Spring Football practices in early April 1982. During college football's 2 weeks of Spring Football practices back in the early 80's ...this was a couple of years before the combine started ...NFL Scouts where allowed to visit those spring practices for a coupe of days & give physicals & interviews to upcoming seniors. They stopped doing this for the most part after The NFL instituted the NFL Draft Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in the mid 1980's ...so, yes...in April 1982, 20 year old Dan Marino was measured barefoot @ 6'3.625"
& 213 lbs...IMO...he reached a full 6'4" by age 22.

Always looked the solid legit 6'4" he was listed at with other 6'3", 6'4" & 6'5" QB's in the NFL...was always taller than 6'3" listed QB's...he was more than an inch taller than Elway, Kelly, Eason, Simms, Moon, ..all 6'3" listed by NFL...at a recent celebrity event he was 1.25" to 1.5" taller than Lawrence Taylor who was a LEGIT 6'3" in his prime!.. at 6'3-5/8" (6'3.625") on a physical ...could have easily been 6'4" peak morning height ...also, in summer of 1982 on that physical Marino was 20 years old, turned 21 on 09/25/82...it's very , very possible Marino grew another 1/4" inch to even another 1/2" by age 22...because by the time he was 22 & in the NFL...Marino appeared to be a legit 6'4" ! Noticeablely taller than all 6'3" QB's...looked the same height with other 6'4" QB's & slightly edging a few other 6'4" players...and several 6'5" QB's he looked less than an inch shorter than back in the day??...your thoughts, Rob?
