At the peak of his height he stood up with 182 cm, during the day stood between 181 and 180.5 and went to bed with 180 cm.

I always thought Sting was quite a bit taller after seeing him in Quadrophenia, but then, the cast consisted of guys who were either short or small average. It’s amazing how many actors from Quadrophenia are also in Scum. One who wasn’t so short was the actor famous for playing Nick Cotton in EastEnders; he showed up in both films. I’ll get back with his name later, seeming as I can’t remember. Durgh….!

Saw a recent interview with Sting and Dominic Miller on Youtube and Dominic was much taller than I thought sitting down in the chair. Usually when I see them live they're stood well apart on the stage and Dominic posture when playing the guitar is stooped. Miller has got to be at least 6'2 I'd have thought.

Seeing him with Bryan Adams in the early 90s I think, I wouldn't have put him over 180, so seems about right, nearer 5 ft 10 now I'd say. Still in incredible shape at close to 70, I got that 2100 Asanas yoga book and some of the moves are impossible, anybody who is an accomplished yogi has to be super fit. My muscle tone and overall body strength has increased bigtime doing it, and it's functional strength too, which you notice in every day life.

Given their appearance, music style and target audience at the height of their fame, it can be surprising to find out some artists are actually a bit older than you might've guessed them to be as at the time. Didn't realize Sting was already closing in on 30 yo when the Police hit it big. Then you have Andy Summers, who was 9 years Sting's senior and who is now 77 yo himself.
I agree, while not necessarily appealing to one's own musical tastes, you can still appreciate the talents and abilities of artists whose music isn't exactly your cup of tea. For me, Sting is one such artist. Technically, even with the Police, some of his music is very difficult to play when you try it yourself.

I met Sting after a concert on the Police's first tour of the U.S. the Roxanne tour. I am 5'11. He was noticeably shorter than me. 5'6 would be about right. Maybe he was still growing. ;)

Rob do you think that a max range of 5'11.25-.5 can be argued for Sting's peak height? I personally think that he deserves an upgrade to 181cm for peak height and the current listing is fine, although he may start dipping into the 5'10-10.5 range as he approaches seventy.

I don't personally feel he was much over 5ft11 if at all. I remember him in a film from the 1980s stood face to face with Tommy Lee Jones and looking a good inch shorter. He also didn't look over 5ft11 with taller guys in band aid like Le Bon or Paul Young. 181 would be the most I'd argue.

My wife and I waited outside the stage door for him to exit (we were first in line). To my shock and embarrassment, the first thing out of my mouth was not "Great performance, Mr. Sumner, I'm a huge fan" but instead I blurted out to my wife "Wow, I'm taller than Sting!" to which Sting looked me in the eye and smirked after seeing how red I'd turned from embarrassment. In any event, I was very surprised that I was taller. I'm 6'1" and I felt at least 2 inches taller at the time. So I think the consensus on this site (anywhere from 5'10 - 5'11") is correct.

Who cares 6ft, 5ft11, 5ft 9..he is richer and far more talented than anyone of us speculating about his height. I’d put him at 10ft talk in terms of achievement- a very special human being to say the least.

Yh if you watch the film Stormy Monday there's a good scene with sting and Tommy Lee Jones where he doesn't look over 5ft11 with him. Where does this leave the other 5ft11 listed George Michael though because Sting definitely edges him out.

Seems about right. Sting is an old man now but still significantly taller then 5'9 please. Many people are bad at comparing there heights to other people they see in public and frequently call people an inch or two taller then them the same height. Sometimes it is just a mistake because you have to be right next to a person for a few seconds to get an accurate guess never mind footware difference.

I met him years ago at a show and stood right next to him. He seemed to be right around 5'9.5 . It was around 11pm in the evening so he may have been at his lowest point in terms of height.

Jimmy Nail,the lead actor in The Last Ship is six three and there are plenty of pictures of them together, with Sting a good four inches shorter at least. From personal experience I know yoga gives you an erect posture and sting is still very slim and athletic in appearance. I reckon five ten and a half is about right.

Whenever I have my hair cut short with the clippers my look always reminds me of him. I don't mind it short in the summer but I really prefer it long and have been growing it since the end of August again! It looks more receding when its short but, not as extreme as his!!

I was back stage at a charity concert in the early 90s. I was with someone who was a roadie for one of the performers. At one point, I was standing shoulder to shoulder with Sting. He was very slender and no more than 5'10". I was just under 5'7" back then & I had on sneakers... he was wearing very flat canvas slip on type shoes. I also stood next to Elton John at same concert. He was just a tiny bit taller than me. With his regular type men's leather shoes, he stood approx, 5'8".

I've met sting in NYC one of the FEW celebs I've met seemed my height or taller when I met him 3 years ago I mightve been 5"10 at least then but no way hes 5"8 5"9 range. Rob I think you are correct on this. Only thing is I'm not sure of footwear the day I met him..

I saw Sting in Dallas at a hotel bar. I was standing when he walked in-locked eyes with him. I am 5'8 in a half and he was my height-no doubt about it. I also noticed he had on boots (like Dr. Martens) that had a large heel. This dude is NOT-NO WAY 5'11'!!

saw a picture of sting with ronald biggs(you should add him to this website)whom i read was 6ft2.5 at his peak. Sting looked 2-3inches shorter.I think 5ft11.5-6ft is about accurate for sting.

Man, Rock legend Sting is so much taller than Glen in those pictures, he has gotta be at least 6ft 1 or above. Just coz the dude is going Bald, he looks shorter, but really, he has gotta be at least 6ft 1 coz he is clearly over 5 inches taller than Glen!

Stewart said that it wasn't a message directed at anyone (i.e. Sting) in particular, but rather the venting of soundcheck-borne frustration (having to sit on his thumbs they were trying to get the guitar amp to stop humming). That's what he said, though I suppose he could've been sugar-coating it (he was promoting a film, after all).

I just realized that last post I made was confusing. (Best not to post when I'm sleepy.) So let me try to clarify that: between the two photos, Glenn's eyes look about level with Sting's mouth; so if that's a 3-inch difference it would put Sting at 5'11". But in both photos it looks to me like Glenn is tilting his head up a bit, and Sting is tilting his down a bit. A tilt of 1/2" is barely even noticeable, it might be more like 1" for each of them. But even if it's only 1/2" each, that would add another inch total to the height difference, which would put Sting at just around six feet even. Because of the effects of head tilt, it might make more sense to look at the tops of their heads instead; but even that can be affected by tilting your head, depending on how someone's head is shaped, their haircut, etc.

I've met Sting a few times over the years. He is about 5'11' but looks taller. The first time I met him in 1980, his hair made him look even taller still. He's really handsome in person too.

Sting and Stewart would fight all the time. I remember seeing that MTV interview once from the 1983 Synchronicity tour and Stewart said to the camera "do you want to see me kick Sting's ass?" Then he threw a drink on him and ran from the table with Sting chasing him. Great stuff.

I don't doubt it. Both possess HUGE egos you can practically feel at a hundred paces. But, whereas Stewart's arrogance seems more like enthusiasm, I think Sting's is just plain arrogance.

5' 7" on Andy & I had 3" on Stewart so 6' 2" is accurate. I could tell even at their '79 $2 show in Denver Stewart & Sting were at odds.....how they got to '84 I'll never know. I saw them almost kill each other in Orlando in '83.

Stewart is 6'2" easy, If not slightly more. Spoke with him briefly a week or so ago. He was in good spirits and his new film amazing.

I read Sting's biography and although it did not say how tall he was, he did say that at school he was always head and shoulders above everybody else in his classes. On that basis I guessed he must be 6ft plus now, although I don't know as I have never met him.

Unless he has shrunk, Sting is at least a 6 foot tall man. I have seen Police up close, Sting was taller that me and I am 6 foot, 183 cm!!!!

I saw him in Madrid. He was 20 meters from me and he looked about two or three inches taller than me (I am 5`9). It is not the best way of seeing a person but at least it might help to forget the idea that he is just 5`8 or 5`9

I would agree about the 5'8" thing - when my brother was working concert halls, he said Sting stopped in the hallway, sat down, took off his boot and shook the lift out of it, repositioned it and put the boot back on and headed to the stage. On a good note, when Sting noticed my brother he sheepishly smiled and said "whoops, caught" - chuckled and moved on.

Once I met this man and this woman, the man works at a nightclub that gets some celebrities, while I think the woman is a friend. Anyways they were telling a story of how they were both at the nightclub and in comes this short man, and to their surprise it was Sting. They later were saying how television made him look taller. I thought the man who worked there might had been exaggerating since he was a big guy, so I asked him if I was taller than Sting. I stood up and he said Sting was about my height (I'm around 5'8").
