It plays to different people in different ways, and I think probably having a definite physique and presence has played for me rather than against me. That’s the way I see it anyway.

I saw this guy at the train station recently and I didn't think he looked a full 6ft5,I'd have thought 6ft4-4.5, but I didn't realise he was 76 either,looked in his mid sixties to me. 6ft5.75 peak and now an inch lost but can seem less due to posture.

big clive is a great actor and looks the part. So he gets a full 6'6" at his peak, he is giant. But now hes 76 its hard to say becouse hes not standing strait up and leaning down at wee rob becouse hes so small compared to clive lol but he must have lost at least an inch or two. Most guys that height do lose as much as 3 inches. But today i would put him at 6'4"05

6'6" peak. As for in these photos, its hard to tell. He's leaning into the photo and slightly slouching at the same time. If he stood with very good posture, imo he'd prob look around 6'4.25" or so. Currently with it being 8 years after these pics were taken, I can't see his current height being any more than 6'4".

Yes, folks, in today's episode, from early 1991, there was a knock at the door of the Rovers Return and answered by the titchy Alec Gilroy, who looks about 5ft4 to me! Clive simply TOWERED over him in a way so humiliating that it would take one hell of a lot of beating for any TV programme I have ever seen try that one! 😨

I'm sure that Clive's mighty stature contributes to the many gruesome horror parts that come his way, and why not? He snaps them up and does them complete justice. I thoroughly recommend anyone to see what he gets up to in 'Clive Barker's Book of Blood'! Yeeugh!
But perhaps what equally contributes to his winning of these parts is his stone-faced expression. As with his part in 'Cracker', and playing alongside the 6ft1 man-mountain Robbie Coltrane as his brother, even brotherly love acts as no barrier when it comes to his icy stares! He doesn't look over 6'5" in neither pics. Rob, did you get a 6'5" impression from him when you met him that day? I know precisely guessing someone's height that's about 9" apart from you can be pretty difficult though. You can only give a rough estimate at a height gap that wide.

Editor Rob the first time when he was 65, he was still comfortably over 6ft 5, but that 65-70 range I think he lost height, in Ripper Street recently, I think 6ft 5ish is what he looked.

Editor Rob the 65-70 age range is where many men will lose a bit more height, so I think 4-5 years ago he still looked well over 6ft 5, but today he might have lost a cm.

No doubt that guy is a real 6'5 or little more. In GOT there are few scenes where Gwendoline seems tall like Clive, but maybe is the angle of the camera or maybe Gwendoline was wearing lifts. What you think Rob, is possible that Gwendoline wore lifts in shoes next to Clive?

Editor Rob I think his peak is close enough to 6ft 6, I can believe the 1/4 inch under. Today he may well have dropped to 6ft 5, a few years ago probably only had lost a fraction and still cleared 6ft 5 comfortably.

Btw, it seems i'm not the only one who thought this! I didn't read Lelman's post and i completely agree with him: "barely taller than Nikolaj and shorter than Gwen"... I doubt he's able to loose 3 inches just with posture (trust me, it's not that easy to look 3 inches shorter with posture)! I think he stood pretty straight in those scenes actually! The only thing i can think about is whether both Gwen and Nikolaj wore big lifts or they just use "strategic" camera angles/ground differences!

Editor Rob you could still make it to 60's with not much lost, maybe a fraction...but wrestlers are involved in physical activities with a lot of strain and stress on their joints and discs. That and heavy lifting over time has a great increased risk of damage and height loss.

OK, I saw the BBC television hit drama series the "Ripper street" starring Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg and guest star was Clive Russel as Chief Inspector Fred Abberline. The show is fantasctic the best what I've seen for many years. When Macfadyen and Clive stands face to face (and Clive Russel didn't tilt his head, etc.) I saw clearly at least 5cm difference. Macfadyen is 6'3 (191cm) and so I give Clive minimum 6'5.5 (197cm). He's huge in this show. Click Here

Editor Rob I didn't push the boat out with him as I have seen him several times and he didn't want to stand at his tallest...although it's useful seeing him at this height and more clearly losing a couple of inches.
a guy like Kirzinger, I feel he was more confident in his height, although the photographer (who at the time wasn't aware of the site, but she is now!) actually caused the first shot with Ken to be a screw up, but I managed to get a second take with Kirzinger!

Hey rob was looking at your pic of u and ddp and u have him as 6'4 but with clive u have him at 6'6. If u look at both pics of u with ddp and clive I say it looks the same difference in their height over u . When I first saw ur pic with clive I did guess 6'3 maybe 6'4 - but 6'6 nooooo wayyyy !!!!!

Editor Rob I believe Clive appears a little taller, of course he has much poorer stance than DDP, even I dropped an inch with clive but felt he dropped about 1.5 inches more than me still!

I work with a 6'6" guy who would never look this short next to a 5'8" unless he was very heavily bent over and/or bending a lot at the knees. It's hard for me to imagine this guy being as tall.
