6ft6 out of bed is definitely feasible if he was a fraction over 6ft5
Greatman said on 15/Oct/18
How much over 6'5 is possible if anything for him, Rob?
Editor Rob
I suppose a chance of a fraction over maybe.

This is a fair listing. Not 6’6” barefoot. Always looked maybe 6’5 or worst case 195cm
Canson said on 5/Jun/18
I’m not even sure he would make 6’6” in the AM. 6’5” at a low could mean 6’5.75 out of bed.

i think he was littel over 6t foot 5 at peak and barely 6 foot 6 in the morning

Wow had no idea he died.

He was a bit of a character wasn't he?
MJKoP said on 2/Nov/15
RIP. He could've been 6'6" during his younger years. Always looked huge, height-wise.

Nice wish James, but it seems that your posts were both prophetic and telling. weird, both comments mention death, twin towers(death) ill health, better days et.c

I ran into Fred again. As my earlier post said, he's nowhere near 6'6" now. He's aging and seems to have developed a slight, but noticeable, slouch. I'd say he's 6'3" max without shoes. My wife used to work for his best friend who is about the same height but has stayed in great shape and is probably still all of 6'5." Fred and this guy used to be called, "Nashville's Political Twin Towers." Fred has seen better days. He's a good man and I hope he lives a lot longer in health and happiness.

I saw Fred, of all places, at a funeral. He was seated, and occasionally standing, in the row in front of me. He is a huge man with a commanding presence. Don't get me wrong, he is very tall but there is no way he is a full 6'5" or 6'6," as he has sometimes been listed. Fred is not a young man so I think it's fair to say that he has lost some height. I'm 6'3.5" and Fred and I were right about eye to eye. Good guy!

Why is he listed at less than his self-claimed height, Rob?
James said on 18/Nov/10
I dobut 6'6. 6'5 in his 20's and by the time of the Line of Fire somewhere int he 6'4-6'5 range.

I'd say both camps (the around 6'6" and around 6'5") are correct. He probably
was 6'6" at peak, but would likely be an inch shorter now, due to his age...

in "in the line of fire" Clint Eastwood towers everybody by about two inches but Fred Dalton Thompson whom towers over him in turn!
At the time, Clint was visibly around 6'3; not less. He still looks about 4 inch taller than the great Sam Waterston whom is no less than 6'1. Mr Thompson was 6'6 dor sure and still is around 6'.5 when standing dead straight.

In "Die Hard 2", there is a scene of Thompson and Bruce Willis, Fred looks huge, at least 6'5" and last night i saw "In the Line of Fire" and again seemed very tall, looks like the actor George Kennedy (6'3"/6'4") but taller.

This guy is definantly tall. I'm not sure if he's quite 6'6", but he could be and he's 6'4"/6'5" minnimum. Didn't win the republican's nomination despite this (they say height increases the odds of getting elected).

Had no idea Thompson was 6-6

I am 6'6" and you don't shrink that much as you get older. I am almost 50 and I am still the same height
Mike Solomon said on 12/Oct/07
Did you guys see the latest (and Thompson's only) debate? He's standing next to Romney, who is 6' 2", and he DWARFED him! He's gotta be a minimum of 6' 5", maybe 6' 6" -- he's huge. Here's a crappy picture: Click Here

Yea he obviously was 6'6, 15-20 years ago. But my friends saw him last year and he was around 6'4, 6'4.5
Austin said on 30/Jul/07
I've met the man and shook his hand. I'm 5'10" and he is every bit of 6'6".
Joe Knight said on 31/May/07
People do shrink as they age. AT age 22(my wedding physical) I was 6'and 1/2" tall. At 53 my last physical I was 5'11" It sucks getting old. All I can say is run Fred run.
Patrick said on 31/May/07
Frontline 5-30-07 on the day of officially announcing his campaign for President, one of those interviewed in the segment said 6'6". Sam Waterston on Law and Order is 6'1" so it wouldn't be so noticeable and they often shoot Thompson seated.
bob said on 2/Feb/06
Thompson is a tall guy but in that picture he is just about 6'4" in shoes. No way is he 6'6". Dole looks about 6'1", barely over 6' but may have been taller in his younger days.
Paul said on 19/Dec/05
I met Fred at a political function in 2000 when he was thinking of running for President. 6'6" is too generous although he may have been that as a younger man. He appeared to be 6'4.5" to 6'5"

Other notables I met that day were Dan Quayle (5'10"), Lamar Alexander (5'9" to 5'10"), Country singer Johnny Lee (5'7" without boots), Howard Baker (5'5"), and Steve Forbes (5'11").

Editor Rob
yes, lately he doesn't look that tall, but in youth may have been
