he said he was 179cm (5ft10.5) in a french interview early 2000's
i remembered it very well " i am 179cm which isn't short"

i don't know why he claimed 5ft11.5 and also 5ft10.5 but i think he looked more a weak 5ft10 like 177cm
Editor Rob
Far more likely he translated by the interviewer than Clooney giving a height in metric I'd have thought.
cmillzz said on 4/Jun/19
Pitt is and always has been taller than Clooney imo. Pitt I can see being 179 cm, while Clooney is closer to 178 cm.

If Clooney ever does see 5’11, it’s literally right out of bed in the morning.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 30/May/19
Rob, who do you think would measure taller peak Clooney or Pitt?
Editor Rob
Maybe both are closer than we think at their peak (though Pitt I don't actually think has lost anything visible but clooney might be 1/4 inch lower in 50's).

Let’s be real, Wahlberg isn’t a legit 5’8. Clooney I can see being 5’10, or perhaps even a hair over. 5’9 range... I don’t know.

@viper

Lol 5'9" range?! Give me a break. He's easily 5'10.5", two and half inches taller than 5'8" Mark Wahlberg.

A poster below mentioned Clooney claimed 6' at one time. I do recall a movie magazine doing a one page profile on all the tv hunks of the time, think this was in '94 , the year , ER premiered? And it did list George as 6'!
Dr JJ said on 11/May/19
A notorious lift wearer. And comparing him with the likes of Damon and Pitt is a waste of time, because we don’t know their actual heights either if truth be known. Clooney is approximately 5’ 9” with a half inch range either side. In footwear, special and very expensive footwear, he may touch the 5’ 11” mark. Barefoot, no way.

Peak of 5ft 11 is something I still wouldn't rule out, but today the lowest I'd argue would be 5ft 10.5.

🎁🎂🎈 Happy Birthday George! 🎈🎂🎁

I'd like to wish George a fantastic 58th Birthday. My favourite film? Definitely 'From Dusk Till Dawn'. Initially, he plays a bank-robbing baddie, and the brother of a corrupt and pervy Quentin Tarantino, but when push comes to shove, he knows how to cope in a crisis. I'd love to see George starring in another Tarantino film; I have noticed they really bring out the best in an actor - and they're funny too!

You see Quentin and George against a measuring chart in a TV newsflash, standing against a measuring chart. I'm sure he looked 5ft11 to Quentin's 6ft1.

I will go with a Birthday Guess of 5ft10.75. I don't see less for him AND there's only the one box. George isn't a sloucher, and he's very easy to warm to in interviews.

Rob I think Clooney did claim one time that he was 6 feet tall but said all the other guys on ER are 6’ 2”. Also, why do a lot of people think him claiming 5’ 11” is outrageous to them? If he’s only 5’ 10 3/4”, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to round up to 5’ 11”?
Editor Rob
His 5ft 11 claim is at times believable, it's not like he's 5ft 10 flat or anything (well, from what I've seen I'd never go that low!).

Clooney didn't look any more than 179 cm in 1998 with 186 cm Evander Holyfield: Click Here Clooney's dress shoes might have been a fraction thicker too, though I would say he's taller with Holyfield than 5'10" flat Mike Tyson was regardless.

@Hijo: The Frye Campus boots he wore for Spy Game could be called huge heels by today's standards and maybe those Guidi boots, though the designer Chelsea boots and Oxfords he's worn to red carpets have a heel a bit bigger than average, but not what I'd call huge. You're right that he wears very expensive footwear, though. It's not unusual to see him in boots worth thousands. I have no idea what's inside them, though.
Hijoputamos said on 18/Nov/18
@rising, yeah you are right, Brad wears HUGE heels, lifts, elevator shoes (the ones everyone thinks are regular shoes BUT are NOT- that’s why they’re so expensive and can trick mostly everyone;)
Without shoes Pitt is a few mm taller than 5’9 Gwyneth Paltrow
Rising - 174 cm said on 13/Oct/18
@Pierre: Pitt does wear thicker boots and bigger heels than George for the most part. He also has better posture. This is why Brad can sometimes look noticeably taller even though they're at least close in height. I agree he probably started losing height not long after the Syriana injury. Perhaps 1/4" loss by age 50 and another 1/4" loss since.
Pierre said on 8/Oct/18
@Rising=Yes his shoes are looking a little bit advantageous with a discreet angle over his feet,i would guess he can gain around 2 inches with this.I think Brad's shoes are looking lots of time more advantageous than George's shoes.I have read Georges Clooney suffered a spinal injury during filming of Syriana in 2005 and i think he lost a little bit height since this year
Rising - 174 cm said on 5/Oct/18
@Aleko: I agree with you on both Clooney and Damon, though Pitt only claimed 5'11" himself so he definitely isn't 5'11.5". Pitt and Damon are both still at their peaks, imo. @Pierre: That's a reasonable guess for prime, imo and that would be my guess if he's not 5'10.5", though I don't know if he's shrunk THAT much yet. It was actually reported that George did wear elevator shoes when he was with Stacy Keibler and in 2015, an Australian elevator shoemaker also claimed George ordered them from him. Look at how much better his posture was: Click Here Click Here and he wore the same shoes at the Golden Globes with her: Click Here and look at his posture once again: Click Here His shoes look normal at both events: Click Here so it could just be that George only wanted to look taller with her by standing better or maybe his mother was reminding him not to slouch that year, but he did remark on her height and think about when else you've seen George stand like that. It's a big contrast to his usual slouch with her in 2012. I don't know if the lift reports are accurate or not, but maybe it's not a coincidence they were the exact time his posture was much better. George's style would only be the most discreet type, but if he does wear them occasionally then maybe he has shrunk more than I thought.

The 2.25" footwear advantage Sharon Stone had is probably similar to 5'7" Sandra Bullock's footwear advantage above and George she winds up an inch max taller: Click Here That was 2013 and he definitely wouldn't have been taller than 5'10.5" Stacy Keibler by 2012: Click Here And some height loss was clear by 2017 with 5'8" Mark Wahlberg: Click Here Marky Mark has a camera advantage and 1.4" Timberlands while George probably had 1"-1.2" range shoes. So imo, George was 5'10.5" peak, probably 1/4" less by 2012-2013 and now 5'10" flat at 57. He's a better candidate for a peak/current height than Cruise and Gibson, imo.
Rising - 174 cm said on 19/Sep/18
@JamesG: There's no way he's that tall compared to the other listings on this site. 5'11.5" was his peak height in shoes. I can believe RP saw him similar height to himself as a half inch is not much and can be obscured by the most subtle differences in ground, footwear, posture, eye level etc. You can see Clooney was not taller than 5'8" Sharon Stone in heels in 2007. Her 2.25" footwear advantage would likely be the difference between the two barefoot and you can compare George to 5'11" men.

Clooney with 5'11" Bruce Willis in November 2006: Click Here Click Here Click Here
With 5'9.75" Matt Damon in socks and 5'11" Brad Pitt in slippers in 2004: Click Here Click Here Click Here

5'11" Ving Rhames was also taller than George in Out of Sight(1998) as you can see in the elevator scene: Click Here and many doubt Pitt is even 5'11" while I have some doubts about Rhames being a full 5'11" and wouldn't guess Damon over 5'9.5".

JamesG,
I was in Learherheads with him. I was one of the Extra Football players. Was with him face to face, shoulder to shoulder for 5 weeks. He was 5’11” barefoot in Spring of 2007. Exact same height as myself. I’m sure 11 years later & now well into his 50’s, he’s down to at least least 5’10.75” with his neck issues. Maybe eve. 5’10.5” ?? His neck is all jacked up! Had an accident while filming Syrania...almost died! Fractured his neck/spine & was leaking spinal fluid!
JamesG said on 2/Sep/18
Guys, Clooney has plenty of barefoot pics out there and no way is he under 5’11”. I would guess his peak was just under 6 (strong 5’11”), and he’s currently 5’11.25”-5’11.5”. Rob?
Rising - 174 cm said on 16/Jul/18
@Rob: That makes sense, but I wouldn't think she was much more than 5'11.5" in them. The 3rd pic made me wonder if she was bending her knees more than I thought, but I guess you always have to wonder how well Clooney is standing too.
Rising - 174 cm said on 15/Jul/18
I was posting this on the Sharon Stone page so I figured it might be of interest here as well. Clooney and 5'8" Sharon Stone(in heels) back in 2007: Click Here The first 3 photos are from the Michael Clayton premiere the Dubai International Film Festival while the last one is from an Aids benefit in Cannes. Clooney was only 45-46 in these photos while Sharon was 49 so he should have been right around his peak, but he doesn't look taller than her overall. Sometimes she might have a camera advantage, but then she's bending her knees at other times.
Editor Rob
Her footwear advantage could be close to 2.5, at least 2.25 more footwear in any case.

Sandy Cowell said on 15/Jul/18
I agree that in the picture sent in by Rising 174, George Clooney definitely edges Mel Gibson out. A great pointer was made by CDS that Mel's footwear often consisted of cowboy boots at the time that picture was taken. Clooney is of above average height - anyone can see that, but he doesn't always stand bolt upright.

George gets 5ft10.75.
viper said on 13/Jul/18
This guy has some guardian angel by his side. To not even break a bone in that crash doesn't seem possible
Rising - 174 cm said on 13/Jul/18
@CDS: Yeah, Mel has often wore cowboy boots up to the present day, rarely if ever wears shoes that add less than 1.25" and appears to wear lifts at times. He certainly seems to have become conscious of his height, especially since I saw him tip-toeing for recent premiere photos. But I'd personally be surprised if Clooney measured under 5'10" except with loose posture so I think it's likely Mel was looking taller than his actual height that day. I believe Sigourney Weaver was spot on when she said Mel was 5'9" since height was a big factor when they worked together. Barry Norman also said 5'8"-5'9" and he went back to back with Mel. I see Kurt as more 5'9"-5'9.25" and that is the one film where I can understand the 5'8" guesses for Mel because the difference is at least an inch face to face in the hallway at the beginning, but Mel wore shoes like 1" Reeboks while Kurt's footwear had enough heel to give him a 1-2 cm advantage. That still suggests Kurt was taller, but less than it looked in the film. He looks about the same height as 5'9" Anthony Hopkins in The Bounty(1984) and they even have the same footwear for some scenes. Similarly, he wasn't more than an inch shorter than Michael Parkinson(about 5'10") and it's unlikely Mel had lifts that day. Mel also always seemed taller than 5'8" guys like Joaquin Phoenix and Gary Sinise.

I've never seen Clooney with Woody, but they both look shorter than Matthew McConaughey: Click Here Click Here Clooney was 51 there and I'd guess he was a bit shorter than his peak by that age. I think Clooney, McConaughey and Russell Crowe were also similar at their peak, but if there was a difference, I'd guess Clooney the shortest of the 3 and maybe McConaughey the tallest.
CDS said on 13/Jul/18
I would say Clooney is definitely taller than Mel Gibson, yes, and he is , per his usual posture, slouching in that video, and Mel was seen wearing cowboy boots often back in the 90s. All I'm saying is the fact they could look dead even at all is evidence certainly Clooney could go as low as a barefoot, end of day height of 5'9.5" or 5'9.75", which is woody harrelsons listed height too btw, and I've seen photos where the 2 looked very close as well , height wise. Plus, remember, many have said Mel Gibson is not even 5'9", but I've read as low as 5'8.5" in shoes in a movie magazine in the 90s. I refer to the 1988 film, tequila sunrise, where Mel looked noticeably shorter than 5'9.5" Kurt Russell...
Rising - 174 cm said on 12/Jul/18
@CDS: Clooney would almost certainly round to at least 5'10" if he were 5'9.5" or 5'9.75" so I just don't believe the license claim unless Kidd provides proof. Clooney's license would almost certainly say 5'11" since he's consistently claimed 5'11" or 5'11.5" since the 80's. I think that video with Mel is more evidence Clooney was never more than 5'10.5", but he is slouching noticeably for most of the video and Mel's footwear is unknown. Mel had normal shoes at the Lethal Weapon 4 premiere since he didn't look more than about 5'9" in cast photos, but Clooney is leaning and still looks taller at that event: Click Here Normally, I'd say a video was better evidence, but not without a clear shot of Mel's shoes. If you go back to Mel's famous appearance on Michael Parkinson's show when they compared height in 2002, Mel was shorter than Parkinson, but Clooney was on the show in 2003 and taller than Parkinson. Fwiw, there's also group photos with Mel and Clooney for a Haiti telethon in 2010: Click Here I'd say the chances the two would measure the same height barefoot are slim to none, but Mel can look 5'10"-5'11" with cowboy boots or lifts and Clooney could always look as short as 5'9.5" with a slouch, even 5'9" now judging by how he looked with Wahlberg last year so it's not surprising they could look close.
CDS said on 11/Jul/18
Watching that video someone posted below of Mel Gibson and Clooney, ok, wow, they looked dead even. Now that driver's license height of 5'9" may very well be spot on??
CDS said on 10/Jul/18
Per the comment below about Clooney s drivers license saying he was 5'9". 1st off, can you find a pic of this? And secondly, remember that with driver's licenses there is no half inch, so you're given the option to either round up or down, and maybe Clooney was either 5'9.5" or 5'9.75", and chose the more honest rounding down? This would make him very close to the in-shoes height of 5'11" he's claimed all these years AND would go an awful long way in explaining how Clooney has measured up shorter than so many over the years, including many legitimate 5'11"-ers.. Would explain an awful lot actually. And a 5'9.5" guy claiming 5'11" is as standard as it gets, since just like that famous Burt Reynolds 1970s interview, "no actor is 5'11"", legitimate 5'11" guys will claim 6 foot every time (or even 6'1" in some cases..)
Rising - 174 cm said on 17/Jun/18
I highly doubt his driver's license said 5'9", but I also doubt he was ever 5'11" barefoot except for in the morning. It seems probable he measured 5'11.5" in shoes in his prime.

For newer posters who haven't seen this, 45 year old Clooney was clearly shorter than 51 year old Bruce Willis: Click Here

Bruce himself was clearly shorter than 182 cm Timothy Olyphant a mere 10 months later: Click Here Click Here Also note 5'9" Justin Long, who is at a disadvantage wearing Converse and the same was true at other events: Click Here Click Here

I posted that one photo because it's a full one, but other photos from the same day show Willis taller than Clooney and unless Bruce lost height in those 10 months between the photo and the release of Live Free or Die Hard, he was only about 5'11" himself at the time. Otherwise, it's doubtful he'd look shorter than a man not even 6 feet himself in Olyphant and Bruce doesn't look more than maybe 6' in shoes if Long is 5'9.6" in Converse. Clooney doesn't measure up 2" taller than Long does compared to Bruce and it's not likely he would have lost anything worth mentioning by the time he was 45.

As for the photo above with Bullock, I struggle to see any more than an inch between them in that footwear. If she was around 179 cm in those heels, I'd guess him around 181 cm in shoes there. Posture is always a fair point with Clooney, but in another pic like this one: Click Here Bullock seems to be slouching a bit herself and still no more than an inch shorter. But I do think Clooney was probably a fraction shorter by that point and it shouldn't be that surprising for a 52 year old with a bad back. Nowadays at 57, I think he's a flat 5'10" or slightly more. Basically from 179 cm peak to 178 cm, which is pretty normal for a man in his mid 50's.

Rob, does he look closer to 510 or 511, if bullock pictured above is 507, she's got on 4 inch heels. Making her 511, they're head to head, eye to eye. So he can't be 511 barefoot. Must be between 5 10 and 5 10.25
Editor Rob
I think it is possible he's lost a fraction of height compared to how he looked in the 90's...but it can also be his posture isn't as great as it used to be, which is why sometimes he seems just 5ft 10-10.25
OJ said on 3/May/18
Look we can agree Sandra bullock is 5 7. In the picture above she is the same height as him. She is wearing 4 inch heels ( making her 5 11 ) so how could he look 5 11 barefoot, he has shoes on ( my guess is 1 inch tall ) so he has to be 5 10 !?!
OJ said on 3/May/18
He's between 5 10.5 and 5 10.6 period. I know this because I met him once and we were eye to eye and I'm 5 10.55

Just wondering though if people consider hair as inclusion of height. For example Simone like Bernie sanders who claims 6 ft has 2 inch long strands of hair that somehow stay afloat. A more classic example is walton goggins who is 5 10 but claims 5 11 because of an inch thick worthy of spikes hair. When you measure these people do you include hair? Most celebs have anywhere from a half inch to 1 inch thick hair. Very few are bald like vin diesel or bruce Willis

Mel wasn't barefoot on Parkinson, he briefly took off his shoe while sitting and declared he had no lifts, but it's not like we could actually see if there were lifts. But I'd agree Mel is about 5'9", though he can look taller due to footwear, which may be the case there and Clooney has much worse posture there. With that said, I wouldn't guess George any taller than 5'10.5" Nicole Kidman from the Peacemaker. Was George shorter than David Zayas in Michael Clayton too? I can't remember for sure if there's a scene where we can clearly see their height compared to each other. I could see George having never been more than a strong 5'10", though, especially since Bruce Willis was clearly near an inch taller back around 2006 and Willis wasn't much, if anything over 5'11" by that point.

@c-mo, how do you know what shoes was Matt Damon wearing? Lifts inside? Insoles? Who knows ...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

first of all there are many photos where george clooney is together with matt damon and clooney looks a little taller than him in most pics . so the shoes matt wears seem to be always the same or similar at least

besides of that it doesnt matter if damon would wear lifts because even if he did (which I doubt) it would mean that he wears them often including on the pic where he stands with golovkin who himself looks around 177cm with tyson (who rob met ;) )

btw. there is also a photo of golovkin together with legit 178cm james toney (who rob also met ;) ) . the angle of the photo is not that good but it is still visible that golovkin is similar height to toney . I would say that golovkin is a legit 177cm guy or something around that . at the very least a strong 176cm guy (like myself)

so when we just take the fact that damon looks 177-178cm with golovkin but looks a little shorter than george clooney this means that george clooney is around 180cm with more of a chance of being 179cm than 181cm of course

my guess for clooney is that he is 179cm in the evening and maybe 180cm in the evening when he was younger

what I can absolutely say with a certainty from my analytic judgement is that 5'9 - 175.3cm that some claimed is IMPOSSIBLE . the very very very lowest he can be is 178cm in 2017

no we are not the same person . this is the only nick I post with . ask rob

you are just a bitter hater and try to downgrade the man thats all

he obviously is around 179-180cm

do this :

1. go to google
2. search for a pic of golovkin with 5'10 mike tyson who rob met . golovkin and tyson are similar . golovkin seems legit 177cm
3. then search for a pic of golovkin with matt damon . they are very similar height wise . matt damon seems 177-178cm
4. then look at photos of matt damon with george clooney . clooney is a little taller so 180cm

George really did look at least 2" taller in every photo of the two around 1999-2000, but even considering Marky Mark's Timberlands probably give him a fraction advantage in the recent photo and it's not a full photo, it's difficult for me to believe at least 1 cm height loss wasn't a factor in such a dramatic change.

Not much difference here around 2011 either: Click Here

Videos: Click Here Click Here

Also looked an inch or less taller than Heslov at 2013 Oscars: Click Here Clooney honestly doesn't even look that much taller than 5'8" Jack Nicholson if you look at the 3rd pic.

Either Heslov needs an upgrade or Clooney needs a downgrade and peak height. A 44-45 year old Clooney wasn't much closer in height to a 5'11" Bruce Willis than he was to a 5'9" Heslov. Pretty much in between the two. I think 177 cm is a bit harsh even nowadays, but I don't see how he could even still be 179 cm, which is also the most I think he could have been peak. I'd give him a range of 5'10.25"-5'10.5" peak and 5'10"-5'10.25" current. more likely 5'10.5" peak and more likely 5'10" current, imo.

I honestly see more 5'10.25"-5'10.5" range in his prime than 10.5"-10.75". 179 cm is fine and probably spot on in his prime, but I can't see Clooney ever closer to 5'11" than 5'10". If he had been then a 45 year old George probably would have looked indistinguishable from a 5'11" Bruce Willis. Instead, he looked at least an inch shorter in the full pic and visibly shorter in all the pics. But 5'10" and 5'10.25" are both possible today depending on just how much he can stretch up for a measurement, imho. Maybe he was still 5'10.25" when the pic above was taken and is now down to a flat 5'10", but either way, I'd bet more on the flat 5'10". Pitt on the other hand, I see as more of a 5'11" guy than 5'10" or maybe 5'10.75". I'm convinced George has always been somewhere between 5'10" and 5'10.5" and measured 5'11.5" in shoes in his prime.

Ving Rhames is nowhere near 6 feet without shoes. He's lucky if he's even 5'11". I doubt Bullock's heels add 10 cm, but I could be wrong on that. I assume they give about 8, but then she doesn't look more than inch shorter than Clooney. So actually Bullock does look 5'7" and 5'10ish in heels if George is about 5'11" in shoes and solid 5'10" without.

I do agree with Rob he's still at least 5'10" standing straight for a measurement, but I still don't see him anything above 5'10.5" peak. He's probably lost about 1 cm going from 179 to 178, maybe even finally the half inch seeing him with Marky Mark this year. Actually, he's 56 now so with the back injury, it's not even that big of a loss.

George is shorter than Ving Rhames in the elevator at 53 seconds in this clip from Out of Sight: Click Here He really doesn't look that much taller with Rhames than Adam Sandler did. In addition to that full pic, there's a series of pics with Willis that day and Willis is taller in all of them. 177 cm peak is too low, but I do believe he could look it with bad posture. I see a better chance of Pitt being near 180 cm than George.

Rising - 174 cm said on 11/Aug/17
Clooney at 45 looked more than just a 1/4" shorter than a 51 year old Bruce Willis in this full pic I'm seeing for the first time: Click Here Now if you look at Willis during Live Free or Die Hard around that same time, he really looked a flat 5'11" and at times, even a weak 5'11", but even if he was still the 181 cm he could look a few years earlier, Clooney would be struggling with 179 himself in that pic. Footwear and posture look pretty comparable, at least within a fraction so 5'10.5" is still the most I could buy for George in his prime.

Rising - 174 cm said on 10/Aug/17
I'd say he'd lost at least 1 cm by about 50, which is actually not uncommon, particularly with his back. 179 peak, imo and 178 current. I agree he hit about 181 cm out of bed at his peak. George did supposedly wear lifts when he was with Stacy Keibler around 2012-2013 and I think he was already closer to 178 by that time as you can see him looking about 5'11" in shoes with Bullock above, but I don't know if he's worn them before or since. If he did, I'd bet it was for some scenes with Nicole Kidman in the Peacemaker. Even the elevators he was said to wear may have been just for red carpets when Stacy had heels. I do think the story is believable, though, especially with the video I posted of George repeatedly remarking on Stacy's height and the photos of George forcing his posture like I've never seen him do before. He probably doesn't care that Amal is a bit taller in heels, but when you had Stacy sometimes looking 3 inches taller in heels, that probably got to him a bit more.
Slim 182 cm said on 10/Aug/17
Lmao, he hasn't lost an inch... he just broke his back, and he's in his mid 50's... I do think 181 out of bed peak is entirely possible, I wouldent compare him to brad as that guy lives in his lifts... maybe Tarantino in that dusk till dawn film, or three kings to mark and ice cube.

Rising - 174 cm said on 31/Jul/17
@Slim: George is not wearing elevator shoes above with Bullock. Outside of there being no visible signs, the fact that he only looks about 5'11" in shoes if she's 5'10" in heels makes it obvious he's not wearing elevators. However, I had read some time back that George wore lifts at times with Stacy Keibler. In particular, it was said by Star Magazine George got inserts for his Gucci shoes. While searching for it, I actually found a celebrity shoemaker who names George as a client who ordered elevators! Click Here

But he clearly wasn't wearing them here since he looks a good 3" shorter than her in heels: Click Here Nor here as he looks more 179-180 cm in shoes than barefoot: Click Here

The following year, we do see George with posture I really can't remember seeing from him: Click Here I'm not saying the posture is a result of lifts, but it may suggest he was more conscious of his height with Keibler. Either that, or he got tired of his mother reminding him not to slouch! We see him holding better posture once again at those same Academy Awards in 2013: Click Here You can see on this video, Stacy in heels is still easily a couple of inches taller at the very least: Click Here Now at the Oscars the previous year, George mentions Stacy's height several times: Click Here

Who knows how much of what you read is true. It may be that a combination of losing a bit of height, posture worsening and a tall girlfriend who wore big heels to red carpets did make him more conscious of his height than he'd been before or even since because Amal can look taller than him when she wears heels, but she's at least 2" shorter than Stacy, maybe more, so George won't look nearly as short as he does with Stacy. Or, Donald Trump's short comment could have gotten under his skin more than he'd care to admit!
Rising - 174 cm said on 29/Jul/17
I might give Clooney bang on 181 cm out of bed at his peak, but no more, imo as the most I could see for his low at peak is 179 cm, but I wouldn't be surprised if he dipped a bit below it. 5'11.5" was clearly a shoe height, imo since Clooney does not seem the type to measured right out of bed and even then, it seems a bit high. Nowadays, he might be 180 out of bed and it's possible with his back and posture, he's a guy who loses an inch these days. While I'm sure it will bring a smile to Mr. R's face as he insisted Clooney was even shorter than 177 a dozen years ago, I do think 177 is a bit harsh, even today.

But he can undoubtedly look that short. I was shocked to see him with 5'8" Marky Mark at Cinemacon this year. For those that haven't seen the pics, here they are: Click Here Click Here I know they're not full pics, so it's not proof, but it's shocking to see Clooney struggling with 5'9". Back during The Perfect Stporm and Three Kings, Clooney consistently looked a 5'10.5" guy with Wahlberg. Mark was wearing Timberlands, but any suggestions he put lifts in them are erroneous since he was still much shorter than 182 cm Peter Berg: Click Here Further proof is Wahlberg was only slightly taller than 79 year old Anthony Hopkins that day with those Timberlands and better posture. Clooney's shoes are pretty thick as well - perhaps only 1/4" less than Wahlberg's Timberlands.

Certainly, Clooney looks a mile from 5'11" with Wahlberg.

I wouldn't say George seems that short there, but I do think he only looks about 5'11" in shoes next to Bullock if she's 5'10" or a bit over in heels.

Btw, here's George and Tom Cruise 20 years ago: Click Here

George looks about 3 cm taller, but Cruise has noticeably better posture and while I can't see shoes clear enough there, I'd be surprised if Tom didn't have more footwear, but I don't quite see George a weak 5'11" even back then.

I highly doubt Pitt has lost anything. He looked shorter in the late 80s/early 90s than he does now. But I'll guess rounded to the nearest 0.5 cm:

Clooney: 179 peak, 178 current
Damon: 176.5
Pitt: 179
DiCaprio: 180.5
Stallone: 175 peak, 174 current
Arnold: 187 peak, 181.5 current
Ford: 183.5 peak, 179.5 current

Some can change depending on what I think that day. DiCaprio could be 180 or 181, I'm not so sure and other days, I think Stallone was 174.5 peak and 173.5 current.

In this case, George doesn't have worse posture, Rock may even slouch more than him! In the first pic, George is a bit closer to the camera and then looking up in the 2nd one while Rock is looking down and George winds up just a bit above his eye so a 4.5" difference wouldn't surprise me.

Rock's shoes look like they may be flatter than Clooney's: Click Here Clooney had decent shoes at the event: Click Here Click Here Click Here

George could look shorter than Damon with bad posture: Click Here Though I think this one shows George will still be taller standing straight: Click Here

I wish we had better pics from this event, but George's height is all over the place. He mostly looks somewhere from 5'9" to 5'10" at this event, but he can go from struggling with 5'9", but then still look as tall as 5'10.5" at this very same event!

RichardSpain, Sly in that movie is wearing massive lifts and thick soles that are not even funny.
Guys, Letterman asked Mathew McConaughey how tall he was and Mathew replied 5'11 and 3/4 and that he never reached the 6 foot mark and people started laughing as Letterman was saying 5'10"...and Matthew did not say a word....
So that may shed some light on the matter.
Slim 181 cm said on 12/Jul/17
RichardSpain. Okay, I'd now peg sly at 175.5 cm(5ft9) as for schwarznegger, 186(strong 6ft1), both badass actors with oversized muscles! 💪🏻In all truth and honesty they do have the proportions of a taller man!
As for tom cruise I think he's 5ft6-5ft8, and for brad pitt, I'm convinced the man was 5ft11.25 but he's shrunk due to hard drug use(possible health problems) and ageing

I think Sly at 177 cm morning is possible, but he could have topped out at 176.5 out of bed. I do think he was about the same height as a number of people listed at 5'9.25"-5'9.5" here, but more because I think those celebs are also 5'9" tops.

Arnold I'd give 187 peak and 181.5 cm now. Cruise is 171.5 cm, imo, I'd give DiCaprio somehwere in the 180-181 range. Basically 5'11"-5'11.25". And I'd give Sly 174.5 or 175 cm peak and 173.5 or 174 now. Slim, you've only seen 1 Sly Stallone film?! That surprises me. I know not everyone is as big of a Stallone fan as me, but considering at the least the Rocky and Rambo films are so iconic, it's very surprising you've never seen one, even on TV.

Back to Clooney, here's a clip with 5'2" Roseanne: Click Here Difficult to say due to posture, but I don't see an 8.5" difference. It's possible they had Roseanne on a box though for aesthetic purposes. Now if Laurie Metcalf really is 5'5.5" then I'd say George would be about 5" taller standing straight: Click Here I wouldn't have thought she'd be quite that tall, though. The best comparison from that show would be George and John Goodman.

We're starting to agree too much, Slim! Definitely 5'10.5" peak, imo and while I'd guess 5'10" flat now, I had thought 5'10.25" until I saw George at this year's CinemaCon and it's still possible he's 5'10.25" and his posture has simply gotten even worse making him shorter. Clooney, McConaughey and Russell Crowe are all very similar in height, I'd give them all 5'10.5" peak, but McConaughey has the best chance of 5'10.75", imo with Clooney the least likely to have reached that.

Here's George in 1985 on the Merv Griffin show: Click Here It's a shame the greeting was partially blocked out, but Griffin's height isn't really known anyway. All I could find was a 5'9" for him. Of interest is George was claiming 5'11" back then as well, as you can hear around 2:20.

Jim, Tom never claimed a 3/4". Tom claimed an even 5'9". 5'7 3/4" is Rob's estimate of Tom's height.

RisingForce said on 2/Jul/17
It's been years since I've seen it, but I think they made George slightly taller than Nicole Kidman during some scenes in The Peacemaker so that'd be pulling off 5'11" at times that film without considering footwear since she didn't wear heels. I can't think of him ever pulling off 6 feet, though.

He really does look more 180 in shoes to me in recent years rather than barefoot. Like here with Amal last year: Click Here

Slim 181 cm said on 23/Jun/17
@RichardSpain- ok... still believe Pitts height is unknown as you can see he's a subtle lift wearer probably 179 but mimicking 182 with lifts and covering his heels with long pants. The reason he gave away his lift wearing is because his kneecap was abnormally high at the Troy premiere. And his waist was at the same height as taller bigger chested Eric bana. Yes the stadiometre is an amazing system! As for guys inflating their heights... it's unnecessary!
RichardSpain said on 22/Jun/17
@Slim , the stadiometre gives the real height sure if you use stadiometre barefoot. Good system

@HonestSlovene: maybe as you said about our friend Clooney. 179cm in peak and 178 cm today is very possible. but if Clooney is 178cm we must give to Pitt 179 cm or max 180 cm not more. the problem Pitt uses elevator shoes is very difficult know his real height. But I think Pitt is a strong 180cm not less

Regards!
Slim 181 cm said on 22/Jun/17
I think if he got measured on a stadiometre he'd fall in the 179 range probably .4 or .5
HonestSlovene said on 14/Jun/17
@RichardSpain I agree however I still think 179 cm is slightly taller than average in the west (average is 177 to 178 cm), but Clooney is 178 cm (was 179 cm peak though) and 1 cm shorter than Pitt both look decent height without any lifts and younger generations aren't even that much taller than the overall average, maybe 1-2 cm.

Editor Rob
1/8th isn't much, I think if you only drop under by that amount, you can still be a decent enough 5ft 11 guy, when you get 1/4 or 1/3rd, maybe that's what we can say is 'weak' 5ft 11 range.
RichardSpain said on 29/May/17
Between Pitt and Clooney I see only 1 cm of difference max 2 cm. The problem is Pitt likes wear lifts or elevator shoes and Clooney no.

Is possible that Clooney was 180cm when he was young but I dont believe it. To me he always moves range 178-179cm barefoot. And Pitt is a solid 180 cm max 181cm not more.

Recently I watched movie "Up on the air" . You can see him away from people in passenger control because nowadays a person 179cm is not tall. I think the producers care the casting around clooney because today many people is taller than clooney.

My vote,

Clooney 179 cm
Pitt 180 cm Max 181cm

Barefoot of course!
RisingForce said on 26/May/17
That's true, George was definitely taller that day, but it's possible George's chunkier shoes were 3 cm, while Brad's could have been 2 cm or at least 1" giving George a slight advantage. But if you look at George with Grant Heslov from 2006-2009 and then more recently, it's obvious he's losing height. Here, George standing better with boots can pass for 5'11" with 5'9" heslov and 176-177 cm Kevin Spacey: Click Here But here at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival, George struggles with 5'10" looking barely taller: Click Here In photos like this one from 2012, they can even look almost the same height: Click Here I was shocked seeing George look almost the same height as Wahlberg this year. Regardless of Wahlberg wearing his Timberlands and standing better, it'd be almost inconceivable a decade ago that those two would ever look even close.
Pierre said on 25/May/17

Pierre said on 25/May/17
Georges Clooney was taller than Brad when around the same shoes at 2008 venise event,in lot's of angle of camera
RisingForce said on 14/May/17
I agree George was never 180 cm, even at peak, but Pitt usually had at least a 1 cm footwear advantage and a 1 cm posture advantage, sometimes more and Pitt tends to position himself closer to the camera. I think they were just about the same height in their prime, maybe Pitt was 1/4" taller, but now, I bet Pitt is 1 cm taller barefoot.
Jani said on 11/May/17
I would say that George is slightly under 180cm. Most of the time Brad Pitt seems to be a bit taller than Clooney (about 2-3cm taller).
RisingForce said on 8/May/17
Actually, Clooney may very well be down a half inch to 5'10" flat in 2017! Clooney can look barely taller than 5'8" Mark Wahlberg! Click Here It's true Clooney will drop more height than Wahlberg standing and Wahlberg was wearing his Timberlands, but even in them, Wahlberg looks way shorter than 5'11.5" Peter Berg: Click Here Marky Mark in Timberlands still looked similar to a 79 year old Anthony Hopkins that night as well, so just as you'd expect, the boots made Wahlberg no more than the equivalent of 5'8.5". Speaking of Hopkins, even considering posture, Clooney wasn't looking too much over 5'9" with Hopkins either: Click Here Compare this to back during The Perfect Storm where Clooney consistently looked no less than a solid 5'10.5" next to Wahlberg: Click Here Click Here It's not like Clooney's posture was good back then either, but George is now at a stage where he can apparently look about 5'9" with bad posture. I'll have to see more because they aren't full pics at Cinemacon, but I definitely think Clooney at 55 going on 56 is now 178 cm range, whether 5'10" flat or 5'10.25", down from 179 cm peak.
RisingForce said on 4/May/17
Seeing him with Keibler and Bullock, I think Clooney is now 5'10.25" down from 5'10.5" peak. Clooney actually was consistently taller than Pitt at the 2008 Venice Film Festival for Burn After Reading, but usually he does look noticeably shorter, but posture is usually at least 1 cm difference between them, same with footwear even assuming Pitt doesn't have lifts and then Pitt often positions himself closer to the camera.

I can't remember for sure. 176-177 cm is spot on for Damon same with 178-179 for Clooney, though more 179 peak and at least strong 178 range today, if not still 179. But Pitt is 179-180 range barefoot. If he were 181 cm any time except morning a guy like Pitt would have never claimed and been listed at only 5'11". He'd have said 6 feet in a heartbeat.

RisingForce said on 13/Apr/17
I don't think he needs much of a downgrade. 1/4" back to Rob's old listing of 5'10.5" would be perfect, imo. 3" shorter than Arnold who was likely still close to his prime height of 6'1.5"-6'1.75" at age 50: Click Here Click Here Worse posture, but more footwear. Clooney actually doesn't look like he's lost much seeing him with Ben Affeck since he still looked 5'10.5" there, although if Stacy Keibler is about 6'1.5" in heels then Clooney actually looks more 5'10.5" in shoes here! RisingForce said on 28/Jan/17
I also believe Mr. R saw him at 5'9.5", though I do believe he could have been AS tall as 5'10.5" standing up straight when he was younger, but I have little doubt he's closer to 5'10" than 5'11" today. Even more than a decade ago, he was only perhaps half an inch taller than Matt Damon with both in socks and he's pretty consistently been shorter than Pitt who is probably just shy of 5'11".
RisingForce said on 25/Jan/17
Rob, do you really think he's a solid inch taller than Damon? He was clearly shorter than Bruce Willis more than a decade ago, even with his hair advantage. He's 55 now and with his back and posture, I'd bet he's lost at least a fraction. Any more than 5'10.5" even at his peak seems like a stretch to me, he may have been 5'11.5" in shoes, though, hence his claim. Nowadays, I'd imagine about 5'10"-5'10.25" range.
