@Rob he actually got measured on Conan and your site was mentioned. Barefoot and with his comb backed hair he was around 6'0". However the measuring was a little poor. I think without the hair they said hed be around 5'11". Based on the poor measuring 5'11" would be his max bare foot and bald. 5'10" would be minimum and that would be going to bed. I'd go with 5'10" 1/2. About as average sized as a gut can get.

I'm pretty sure I just passed him in TriBeCa. He was wearing sunglasses. If that was him,
he's 5' 10" at 4PM. I'm 5' 7" on a good day, and he wasn't 4 inches taller than I am. He was three inches taller.

@Avradeep Sarkar To be fair, the tape measure was closer to the camera, so the tape measure in front of the camera is going to read below his actual height. While I'm convinced he is below 5'11, I doubt that it is by any more than a full inch. Try measuring your own height then try to measure your height by putting a tape measure in front of you in front of a mirror. I tried it myself and the tape measure did read me to be shorter than my actual height when I put it in fron of a mirror, so I'm sure he's definitely above 5'10. I just doubt he's at least 5'11.

So he was measured live on TV (And i would say he was measured quite badly/hastily as the tape was away from him so it might of been more if it was closer) as 5'11 and people are saying he is not even 5'10....

It is impossible for this guy to be anywhere below 5'11, anyone calling him short or below average is crazy, even 5'10 is far for true. Jake is a legit tallish guy, with a above average height at 5'11.5 inches, not a giant, but a good sized dude.

I’ve met the guy. He was wearing thick Nike air style sneakers. He has a huge head but a sort of teenager body. Looked nothing over 178 to me. I was actually shocked at how short he was compared to what I thought he would be. I’m 185 and felt like I towered him which is rarely the case when I meet legit 5’11 guys

If he would have stood straight,he would have been a bit over 71 inches which means a bit over 5'11".

@Bobby: I think you get disoriented when it comes to height. If you are 6’0” out of bed you won’t be 5’11.5 midday. You lose half inch in usually 2-3 no more than maybe 4 hours.

@Greg,for playing Batman he is. And don't talk to me about previous short actors playing Batman, I barely considered their versions as a genuine threat for Gotham criminals. He was a very muscular stocky build so he can come off as 5’9-5’10 but thats no where near his actually height. I’d say 180-181 at worst. Probably 181-182. He’s DEFINITELY taller than Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon who both look 180. He looks what he claims

He can definitely look 5'11½ on occassion. With poor posture he can look barely 5'11. Like DiCaprio he he can look anywhere from a weak 180cm to a weak 182cm. 181cm is a good listing for Gyllenhaal.

I definitely think he could hit very close to 6 ft. in the morning if he stood straight. On Conan he was measured late at night without even standing straight at all and he still hit 5 ft. 11 in. bang on, and yes, he was barefoot.

Why would you make assumptions on a picture of him by himself? I'd understand if you were making a broad generalization but 5'10 vs. 5'11? You can't tell that kind of difference on a picture of a guy by himself. Waaay too many variables can make a guy look taller/shorter, notably his proportions and the angle of the shot. I've seen guys "look 5'10" in pictures and when they were actually stocky 6'1 guys. Guys with small faces relative to their frame and/or longer legs will look taller.

Good find. I have images standing next to 5'8 family members and the difference is definitely not as great as between Ryan and Jake. There is 4-4.5" difference between them and blows a 5'11 listing for Jake out of the water (Assuming Ryan is 6'2).

It's kind of easy to know his height from the Conan video. At around 3:17, the camera switched from Conan holding 5'11 on the tape measure, to a front facing shot where the tape measure is at least 1" above Jake's head. I will give him 5'9.75" as a conservative height and 5'10.25" as a liberal estimate.

Conan didn't crush Gyllenhall's hair. His hair wasn't completely flat, that big hair gave him a great advantadge of 2 cm. He didn't look as tall as 5' 11" by any means. He looks 5' 9.5" but has his legs widely open losing some height. So he is 5' 10" at night and 5'11" in the morning.
He could be listed as both 5' 10" (night height) or 5' 10.5" (afternoon height). 5' 10.5" would be a good listing I think.

I believe since the tape is nearer and lower than the top of his head it's a certainty he is over 178cm. How much is debatable. Personally I think when measured he will clear 5ft 11 on the stadiometer.

in my eyes he looks almost short 181 is the absolute tallest i can see him and 179 the lowest. he was probably measured at almost 182 first thing in the mornign and goes down to 180 at nightime. Bill paxton was easy 2 cm tallerin photos

1.80 morning barefoot height. Strong barefoot 1.79 the rest of the day. In custom shoes can reach 1.82. In sneakers 1.83 is possible. I really think so. ;))) might be wrong.

Rob actually i think the Conan O'Brien measurement isn't a reliable measurements. Maybe the posture of jake wasn't the best but the "stadiometer" used by Conan wasn't perfect straight...I would say it's not a good measurement of course

If they wanted it to be final, maybe a stadiometer would have been used....I think a tape measure was used because it wasn't meant to be such a final nail in the question, because there is room for error and discussion on the matter.

He was Measured at only 5'10 on Conan in front of Live Audience in his Socks. Rob you should downgrade him. He was 5'10.

This still shows him over 5ft 10 surely - That line is just over 5ft 11 as he stopped the tape at near 181cm.
The tape is still in front of his shoulder so it's closer to the camera than the top of Jake's head.
Take a little fraction from the tape for not perfectly straight but add a fraction on for the tape being closer to the camera than top of Jake's head.
Then ask him to stand at his tallest...I'd be surprised if he wasn't a little over 5ft 11 when properly measured.
I could appear at barely 169cm due to perspective, so it is easy to lose height in photos, when I'm a comfortable 173cm...

Conan show showed he's around 5'10" but the problem was that his feet weren't together. Go back and look. If his feet were together we're talking at least another 1". I'd put him at 5'11ish.
