you are right it begins at 171cm and with decent posture he measures near 174cm (not a full 174) so it's logical to assume he is 172 range at night.
the one with the stadiometer has a bit of an error and he is really forcing his posture there so again near 174cm in the morning so close to 172 at night.

Editor Rob I am not sure who is taller in the clip, usually if you are looking downwards from higher up, the person further away begins to look taller than the person nearer the camera.

You can slip silicone shoe lifts(insoles) easily into pretty much every time of shoe but how much depends on the height of the shoe so that your foot will have room and you won't fall out of them.
With Sneakers like Adidas Ultraboost I noticed that 2cm(almost 1 inch) is probably the most you can put without being noticeable. In Vans you can't put much more than that but only the Old Skool ones. In Vans SK8 you can put as much as 3 inches but it's very hard to walk with them. Best option is 1 inch to feel comfortable, maybe 1.25 inch. That's just my opinion guys. Also I noticed that some Vans give a full inch(the sk8 ones) as I own some pairs of them. The lowest you get is 2cm and the highest about 2.5 which is a good boost.
Also let's not forget that some Air Max heels nowadays are upto 4cm(1.5inch). I also noticed New Balance have these.

@Paul V Just like in the US, in Canada the average is 5'9"-5'9.5"/175-176 cm regarding all ethnicities and 5'6"-6'0"/168-182 cm is in the normal range. So he is short/shorter than average but still a pretty common height. If he was in the Netherlands/Scandinavia/central Europe/Balkans then he would be very short even as it is the tallest region in the world with averages from 179 cm to 183 cm or 5'10.5"-6'0".

I still don't see why anyone doesn't mention clothing. Men's clothing in the US starts at 30 inches inseam on average for pants, and size S for shirts.
