Connery, 6' max at his peak even. Just another showbiz myth to keep the sacred 6'2 Bond dream alive. Same goes for Moore, not to mention Brosnan.
EdgarHernandez said on 2/Jan/11
a girl in 4 inch hels would look only 2 inches shorter, even whit 3 the diference will be only 3 inches wich is not bery big.

there is little doubt Connery was 6'2"peak,but in one of the few scenes where he is barefoot,at the beach in Thunderball he doesnt look that much taller than listed 5'8" french actress Claudine Auge.In the scene at the restaurant, she is probably wearing some kind of heels but they look very close in height. Its strange how a 5'8"girl even with heels on would look so close to a6'2" man.
James said on 1/Jan/11
i thought the bodyguard orginally was 6'5 or 6'6? If Connery was at peak 6'1 1/2 then the bodygaured was 6'8.
Shaun said on 31/Dec/10
Yeah that's what I thought. He looked at least 6 inches taller than Sean Connery and made him look like a small guy and looked about 14 inches taller than Pleasance I thought so he had to have been at least 6'8". But then again every about the Bond films in that period was pretty extreme, the plots and the villains... As a bodyguard of SPECTRE no.1 he had to be very imposing!!
Shaun said on 30/Dec/10
That massive blond dude also played a viking warrior Gunnar the Giant in Dr. Who apparently.

Pause at 1:42. Rob I need your estimate on the height of Hans the Bodyguard. Assume the ground is level and footwear is even which is likely is. Donald Pleasance was 5 ft 6 and generally looked that height compared to most people. The head difference is massive. How tall would you estimate the blond guy in the black polo neck jumper to be? In another scene he had at least 6 inches on Connery too. I would have estimated his height anywhere between 6'8" and 6'10". What would you say Rob?

Editor Rob
he does look 6ft 8-9 range just from that
EdgarHernandez said on 28/Dec/10
james i will like to se sean connery whit donald sutherland, just in case.
James said on 27/Dec/10
6'2.5 is silly when you see connery with donald sutherland who was probably more like 6'3 1/2 in his youth.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 27/Dec/10
He's 6"1.5 range now for sure though. 6"2.25-6"2.5 was his peak
James said on 26/Dec/10
6'3 in shoes......
EdgarHernandez said on 26/Dec/10
constancio, 6ft 3 is very exagerated, a vstrong 6ft 2 is more likely, maybe in the very night he drop to 6ft 1.5, but for the big part of day 6ft 2, always look that, no less, exept when he fight against that 6ft 8 guy, but what guy dont look shor whit a 6ft 8 guy?
Mr. Kaplan said on 26/Dec/10
The 6'1.5" claim is legit.
constancio said on 25/Dec/10
i believe that SEAN CONNERY'S height is 6'3 and he is the tallest james bond and 007 and he is the best actor i have seen in my days

At peak Sean Connery would have been roughly 1.5 shorter than Clint Eastwood

More like 2 inches.......
James said on 23/Dec/10
Edgar connery was 189cm in the morning.

At peak Sean Connery would have been roughly 1.5 shorter than Clint Eastwood
EdgarHernandez said on 22/Dec/10
my dubt of him between 6ft 1.5 and of curse 6ft 2.5 is because he was definetly taller than roger moore, and in some pics whit arnold schwarzenegger he is taller(even whit arnold at good posture), maybe connery always look taller than he was, maybe is his frame, maybe is his personality, he always look big, but i am sure he was taller than moore.
James said on 21/Dec/10
LOL Clint Eastwood would only be 6'5 in shoes at his peak. I defenintly think sean connery was stronger than a peak clint eastwood despite the height difference i think connery would have no problems wining a fight againt clint. Although today i think clint eastwood could probably hold his own against connery LOL.

Sutherland to me always looked like a 6'3 guy or to be more precise 6'3 1/2. Maybe Sutherlands stocky frame could also make him look shorter? But i agree though there is a chacne a peak sean connery could have been 6'1 1/2 if Sutherland was a weak 6'4.
Shaun said on 21/Dec/10
Donland Sutherland had two inches on Connery. If Clint Eastwood was taller than Sutherland I seriously doubt Connery was a strong 6'2" unless Sutherland was 6'4.5" annd Eastwood 6'5".
Shaun said on 21/Dec/10
Edgar, Connery himself claimed he was 6 ft1 and a half barefoot and thats what he was measured by the Bond tailors. The tallest Bond was Timothy Dalton. Connery would measure 6'2" at some point in the day but he was never "very strong 6'2". In shoes maybe. In Thunderball Connery was 2-2.5 inches shorter than legit 6'4" Rick van Nutter the grey haired agent in that film.
Shaun said on 21/Dec/10
Yeah Connery DID have long legs. But he was big framed so his legs didn't look that long. Unlike Clint Eastwood who just always looked very long and slim and 36 inch inseams undoubtedly
Shaun said on 21/Dec/10
I'm a typical mesomorph, definately. Agreed Connery was, Clint Eastwood was more of an Ectomorph I think.
Shaun said on 21/Dec/10
Yeah James that Hans the Bodyguard from you Only Live Twice, the huge Blond guy in Blofeld's volcano apartment made Connery look tiny. That guy had at least a foot on 5'6" Donald Pleasance and had about 6 inches on Connery. He looked at least 6 ft 8.
Lenad said on 20/Dec/10
He was 6'2" give or take half an inch. 6'1 1/2 i can buy and i can even buy 6'2 on the dot
James said on 11/Dec/10
Edgar yes i agree. i have a friend who claims to be 5'11 (although he could be 5'10) and he is 20 and even though he eats like a horse he just can't gain weight. I am a ecto/mesomorph and i myself do not find it easy to gain weight either.
EdgarHernandez said on 10/Dec/10
James, that is a very good observtion, and well, clint eastwood look bulked in latter is because he gained a little weight whit age, and of curse the weight lifting training, connery dont work out(very seriuly like eastwood) after his years of bodybuilder. even my dad who was build very similar to clint gained weight, but that is because he eat like a horse. Clint was an ectomorph who try to gain weight, connery dont need, he already had mucles because he was a mesomorph.
James said on 9/Dec/10
Well Connery seemed like a mesomorphic 6'2 guy. Clint Eastwood was more a ectomorphic guy but that said clint eastwood did look wider in Deadpool and for an 80 year old clint eastwood looks just as strong if not stronger than connery does and is in better shape as well.

Its weird with Clint Eastwood he has gotten wider with age unlike in his 20's when he was lanky and skinny. Mind you despite the fact that connery was big some of the villians he fought againtst in James Bond made him look like a weakling.
EdgarHernandez said on 9/Dec/10
james, connery had long legs, but not very long legs like clint eastwood. the problem is that unlike clint eastwood, connery was naturaly BIG, he was broad, and always look between slender and a little husky
James said on 8/Dec/10
Well Edgar I'd like too see official documents of this suppoused 6'2.4 measurement if it even exists?

In Thunderball defenintly bulked up and got broader. Funny though Egdar if conenery really was 189cm he would have looked close to 6'4 in Dr No and he certainly did not.

maybe its his proportions? unlike clint eastwood connery did not have long legs or was really that skinny. i notice as well in russia with love how broad shoulders are which can also make him look shorter kind of like Arnie Schwazzenger.
EdgarHernandez said on 7/Dec/10
there is a problem james who bugs me, you see, a very young connery in the mister universe contes was messumerent at 6ft 2.4(.5 if you want to round up). For a bodybuilding contes the measurement is taken barefoot and only in shorts because they also weight you, y suspect his original weight in that contest was 200 pouns, because in the only 3 photos he looks big, in fact james, that was the reason for why ian fleming dont want him as james bon, he was simple to broand, to big, so he down alot of weight, in doctor no, he probably was at his skinniest body, in fact if you look the film sometimes he even looks gaunt.
an then is your stament, yes he was marurement at that by the tailor, but was mor by a sume of proportions, I once get pants made by a tailor when i was 17, and the guy tell me that he guess that i was 5ft 11(5ft 9 at the time), because of my legs, my dad once was told tho thought to be smller(when at the time he was taller than me). The tailor judge the proportions of a person, make a stimate of how tall the guy should be , per example pirce brosnan dont had long legs, but the taylor make this by making his pant higer the jaket a little shorter and sometimes fit clothes. whit monroe they want to make him look "same or taller than connery" so they go for the long street coats, thight collar shirts, straight line on his .
what i want to you to see, is that a tailor guess your height by your proportions, labezny for that matter was put a 6ft 2 because he had the perfect proportions of a 6ft 2(he was a model).
in connery case they gues his height by his proportions, the tailor go for the lowest one that he could guess, so he goes for 6ft 1.5 who is the lowest height that connery was ever claim, but for that matter, there is very little diference betuen the proportions of a 6ft 2 and a 6ft 1 guy so is normal to the tailor to get confuse some times
James said on 6/Dec/10

Edgar I am just saying maybe its becuase Connery is stocky and not skinny perhaps that is why he did not look a solid 6'2 in Thunderball. But seriously I think Connery was more of a 6'1.5-6'2 guy at his peak than 6'2-6'2.5.

Today he is around 6ft.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 5/Dec/10
Rob states that 'by his last film he looked nearer 186cm'

So he's around that today....
EdgarHernandez said on 4/Dec/10
James, just tell me, why he "looks" that in thunderball, in fact he look a well 6ft2, adn yes, i see the movie, a very good one(better than some of monroe for sure), and he still looks 6ft 2, why is always the, "he dont look lika (put any height here", that is your more recurrent argument, i think maybe you see that in cuestion fo proportions, even the only other bond who give the same height factor was george labenzi, and timoty dalton, there were the only ones. James can you explain what you mean when you said the factor of "he dont look like..", i will be very grateful to knowet.

6'2.5 in the morning. Either 6'1.5 or 6'2 at peak is on target.
EdgarHernandez said on 1/Dec/10
quite agree whit rampage, he could be that at his very peak, or if you want a very strong 6ft 2
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 30/Nov/10
He was measured at 6"2.4...

So 6"2.25 or 6"2.5 for his peak is not out of the question. He could still look that tall in his later career..

Rampage(-_-_-)Clover says on 27/Nov/10
That's a fairly ignorant thing to ask, James...

The man is elderly, but by no means on his way out...

Sorry Rampage I was not saying I want him to 'die' its just that he has lived so long and he has had one or two health scares and it makes you wonder when he gets to an age like 80 just how much longer he will be with us for. And for his age as well he seems still very upbeat and does a lot for the public in scotland considering how old he is. So no Hugh I was just curious thats all.
Martyr said on 29/Nov/10

Agreed with James. Connery never looked "very" tall. He was also 2--2.5 inches shorter than 6'4" Rik van Nutter in Thunderball (who I said remember resembles a peak Clint Eastwood in build).
Shaun said on 26/Nov/10
Dunno. I doubt he'll pass 90, I hope he does though. Thunderball was on the TV last night and he did look close to a legit 6 ft 2 in
James said on 22/Nov/10
Shaun how many more years do you think Sean Connery will live for?
EdgarHernandez said on 22/Nov/10
he is a very stressful sitiuation whit that acusation of taxes, i mean lost 1.60 millios is ebnought to make someone become awfuly old in one short period of time.
i still suport a strong 6ft 2, today 6ft 1, at his worst day maybe 6ft .5
Shaun said on 21/Nov/10
Does anybody know if Connery has cancer or an illness or something which he hasn't gone public about. Because I could have sworn in the recent picture I saw of him he looked painfully thin and quite unlike his usual handsome self. I mean I know he is 80 but he looked awful in the picture I saw of him recently, his face looked yellow and thin with big bags around his eyes and he lookes like he's lost several stone in weight. I wish him the best of health anyway. He will always be tall anyway, even if he lived to 90...
James said on 20/Nov/10
I am sorry Edgar but Connery has never looked like a guy that could pass for 6'3. Yes he could pass for 6'2 but never 6'3 nor did he ever look like he was pushing that mark.

At peak either 6'1.5 or 6'2 is fair.

By the early 2000's he was no more than 186cm. Today around 6'0.

At his peak yes a tall guy for sure but never looked very tall like a 6'3 man should.
Mr. Kaplan said on 20/Nov/10
6'1.5" peak.
James said on 20/Nov/10
Maybe a strong 6'2 at his peak in the morning Edgar.

Watch View to a kill and see Walken next to Roger Moore and you will see he was not over 6'0 in his prime.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 20/Nov/10
By the early 2000's he was probably heading towards 6"1.5.
EdgarHernandez said on 18/Nov/10
james: christopher walken was very close to 6ft 1in his very young days(in the phot that you posted), now is when he is barely 6ft guy, in that one he was young and in his prime, connery still looks in that picture pretty big, maybe is the sluch of walken and the distance and because we canĀ“t see his feets, so maybe is between 2 or 1.5 inches diference in that picture, and connery is also sluching. I suport a strong 6ft 2 in his prime, now probably 6ft 1(maybe a little taller, i mean .25 inch only), and again i dont thinck that connery give a dam abaut his height, he nerver see like that tipe of guy, like in the photos whit jonny deep, when he plays whit his height sluching bending his knees, he realy dont care abut his height, if in the bodybuilding contest they tell him 6ft 2.4, he goes whit that, if the bond tailors tell him 6ft 1.5, he goes whit that

In 'Hell Drivers' (1957), Patrick Mcgoohan looked taller than a quite young Connery. Also, in 'the Anderson Tapes' (1971), Christopher Walken seemed to be at least as tall as him, though I think a young Walken might have been near 6'1 at peak.
James said on 15/Nov/10
yes Shaun and do you remember how in Russia with Love Connery looked 186cm in some nightime scenes in that movie also.
Shaun said on 13/Nov/10
James the Bond tailors measured him at 6'1.5" in the 60s. At night he could have been 6'1.25". That;s the very lowest I've measured myself at.
Shaun said on 13/Nov/10
6'1.5" must have been solid relaxed barefoot measurment ...
Shaun said on 13/Nov/10
Actually not even Connery was a completely genuine 6'2" even if he looked it as at some point in the day he fell below it. Even he said he ws 6'1.5", so did the Bond taylors. At some point in the day though he was 6'2", morning probably. Also I know is that he looked nearer 188 than 186 peak.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 13/Nov/10

After giving it more thought I think a peak height of 6'2 (188cm) is fair for Sean Connery but that defenintly makes Michael Caine a weak 6'2 cause connery always lookd a good half inch taller than him
James said on 7/Nov/10
Weird though Shaun how Carrey and Connery look almost identcial in height.
Shaun said on 7/Nov/10
LOL at 6' for Jim Carrey. The guy looks LANKY. A 6' flat guy will never look lanky, sorry. Carrey is close to 6'2", 6'1.5 in my book.

James said on 21/Oct/10
you can't seriously be suggesting that Connery is 6'2 TODAY????? Thats insane.
Hugh 191cm said on 5/Jul/09
Caine did look a tad shorter than Connery at the 1988 Oscars. Both men could still have been at their peak heights.
Ed(1) said on 3/Jul/09
I checked out The Man Who Would Be King the other night, and Connery did look close to 6ft2. Both Connery and Caine were pretty evenly matched, but a few times Connery looked taller.

The movie was made in 1975, putting Connery at 45 years old, and to be honest he didn't look to have shrunk at all from his Bond days.
Doug said on 28/Jun/09
Hugh 190cm your input is needed on the Clint Eastwood where Ali thinks that Roger Moore is average height and Connery "towered above him". LOL.
Doug said on 28/Jun/09
Today Connery is only a little taller than Harrison Ford, I've seen a video of them during a 2006 lifetime achievement presentation side by side and Connery today is clearly not 6'2. I could just about buy 6'1" next to Ford. Connery was 0.5-1 inch taller MAX.

Frank2 says on 20/Jun/09
Harrison Ford is 6':

Frank2, so if you met Connery back in the early 90's and saw him at slightly taller then yourself, what do you think the deal was with Connery and Ford in Last Crusade(1989)? There was easily close to 2" difference between the two in the film: Click Here , and the same can be said in these recent photos: Click Here

You're saying Ford is 6ft (which sounds reasonable enough), but Connery was only 6ft or a bit over a mere few years after Crusade. I doubt he lost 2 inches in a few years. Do you think there was suspicious footwear at play in the film? It does seems odd though, that they would want to make his elderly father taller then the hero!

I've never met either of them, nor have I worked on a film set, and you've been privy to a lot of behind the scenes stuff we'll never ever see, so my question is genuine. I'm not trying to take you task!

Frank2 but you woulden't rule out Grant being a legit 6ft like 184cm?
Frank2 said on 25/Jun/09
Stewart was way too thin for his height. Grant was around 165 to 170 pounds which for a man standing six feet is still considered to be thin. Grant had very thin legs. He had broad shoulders which was from working as an acrobat during his earliest days in showbiz.
Doug said on 25/Jun/09
Gonzalo again I agree completely. Caine 1`86, Connery 1`87 seems right. 194cm Seagal had an easy 3 inches on Caine.
adam said on 25/Jun/09
Grant was thin but so was Stewart! Stewart was like 140lbs at 6-3!
Frank2 said on 25/Jun/09
Stewart was 6'3" but Grant was 6' even. I first met him in the late 1960s when he was in his mid 60s and he was 6'even. My mom worked with him in radio and told me he was 6'. In the film BACHELOR AND THE BOBBIE SOXER, Grant's character is listed as being six feet.

Grant was thin which made him look taller. And back in the old days, most actors were 5'10" and under so Grant looked even taller.

Believe me or don't guys...doesn't really bother me... but that is what he said.
The Voice of Reason said on 23/Jun/09
Does anybody know when Sean Connery claimed to be 6'1.5"? If it was a few years ago, then it is probably his current height, with a peak of 6'2.5". You can see that he is about a 1/2 inch taller than Michael Caine (6'2") when they were walking side by side at the Oscars in 1988.

It's tough to pinpoint either of these two, but Connery has always maintained an edge on Ford, with what looks like at least 2" back in Last Crusade(1989), and close to it in recent years.

Either they're both shorter then listed, or taller, but either way there looks to be a good 2" gap. Maybe today it's even less? If Ford was truly 6ft1 in 1989, then Connery was 6ft3ish.

If Connery was only marginally over 6ft1, considering he was roughly the same height as Kevin Costner in The Untouchables(1987), then that would make Ford only 5ft11ish in Last Crusade.

Frank 2 you aren't taking into account Lord's hair. With his quiff he was as tall as Connery even a little taller. Without the hair I'd estimate Lord at 6'1" and COnnery at 6'1.5". He was marginally taller but in the same height range.
Doug said on 22/Jun/09
Well the best evidence is the 6'1.5 barefoot tailor measurement, the exact height that Connery also claims. This is practically 6'2" in most people's eyes and in shoes he will be 6'2.5", nearly 6'3" which I think is exactly how Connery has appeared to me. Barefoot I'm sticking with 6'1.5", but I'm certain out of bed he was 6'2" in his prime and that the 6'1.5" was a midday/afternoon measurment. At a 2006 honory presentation Connery today is only marginally taller than Harrison Ford. Connery is still about 6'1" today. I believe Harrison Ford is 6 foot

Brosnan was and maybe just maybe still is a weak 6ft2. 186cm minimum anyway. Jay 6ft1 is ridiculous for Connery especially peak. In his prime he was at least 6ft2 and probably taller. Today he's still around 6ft2. Maybe a 1cm less.
Lenad said on 22/Jun/09
6ft0 today? Then I guess Jim Carrey must really only be 182cm then. Honestly Frank2 your ridiculos with your estimates sometimes
Gonzalo said on 22/Jun/09
Connery looks more than 1`85 to me. 1`87 could be his exact peak height
Jay said on 21/Jun/09
Frank2 is correct. Connery was 6ft 1 at peak but managed to maintain that height for many more years than most older men. He's about 6ft now.

There are photos of him with Ian Fleming (6ft at his peak. He based Bond's height on his own) on the set of Dr No and From Russia With Love.

A. Bear in mind Fleming is old here and Connery is closer to the camera and has a large hair piece.

B. This time they are more equal distance from the camera during the same shoot

C. And again they are almost equal in height

Robert Shaw was a genuine 5ft 10 and wore lifts in From Russia With Love to equal Connery's height. That would have been impossible if Connery was taller than 6ft 1 otherwise Shaw would not have been able to walk or fight properly.

I'm also digging around for a photo of Connery with Steve Reeves at the 1950 Mr Universe. Reeves was also 6ft 1.

I met Connery at Fox back in the 1990s and he was slightly taller than me. I'm 5'11" so I'd say he was slightly over 6'. I'd bet the farm he was 6'1" when he was younger. I've compared him to other actors and he always looked 6'1". Not that 6'1" is short. But he never looked 6'3" to me. He never looked 6'2" either. He was slightly taller than Gert Frobe in GOLDFINGER. Frobe was 6' tall when he appeared in GOLDFINGER. In a couple of shots when Frobe stands up straight he's about the same height. Jack Lord was 6'1" when you don't take into account his hair. Add another inch for the hair. The old joke was during the opening credits for HAWAII FIVE-O that Lord's hair didn't move in the wind.

Hugh, Connery looked 189cm peak I agree with you. But this is as you see him in shoes. Can you honestly say he looked near 6'4" in shoes if he was close to 6'3" barefoot? If Connery said he was measured at 6'1.5" barefoot then this is exactly what he was, Connery is enough of a man not to state anything other than the truth. If he was a genuine 6'1.5" (187cm) it stands to reason that the man would have appeared around 190cm in shoes (which I believe he did).

After seeing those pics of Connery next to Carrey I'd guess 6ft1.5 peak, and around 6ft0.5-6ft0.75 today. He was standing dead even with Costner (6ft1) in The Untouchables and that was 1987, so I highly doubt he was much more then 6ft1ish then.

It's possible he was a weak 6ft2 back in his Bond days, but I really can't see 6ft2.5-6ft3.

I don't agree with 6'3" for Dr No. In fact all those heights are bogus. You're comparing him to other actors which is meaningless. He has said 6'1.5" in the past, so he can't be any more than that.
I won't say end of discussion but I think it would be silly to say he was more than what he claimed himself.

Definately a 6ft2.5 guy in his prime. I've seen his bond movies enough times to agree with 189cm for this guy. He looked a solid 6ft3 in Dr. No, a solid 6ft2.5 in the Untouchables and close to 6ft3 in Hunt for Red October with 3.5 inches over Alec Baldwin. Today he is 6ft2 flat (188cm). Also 6ft2-3 in Diamonds are Forever, Goldfinger and in some scenes in Last Crusade (mostly 6ft2 in that film).

roger moore 6ft.04
timothy dalton 6ft.04
pierce brosnan 6ft.04

Hugh, why do you persist on claiming heights of actors in their shoes? Connery was not 6'3" barefoot at peak, Hugh Jackman is not 6'3" barefoot, David Schwimmer is not 6'2" barefoot, Keanu Reeves is not a strong 6'1" barefoot either and Clint Eastwood is clearly not 6'2" barefoot today either he is an easy 4-5 inches shorter than Tim Robbins, he's 6'1" max today. Why do you keep inflating their heights? You seem to always state heights in shoes and most of the time you seem to state an inch above what most people agree they are barefoot.
James said on 28/May/09

Hugh 190cm said on 28/May/09
He looked at least 6ft2 to me when I met him in '98. I think now he is 6ft2 flat but barely. 6ft2.5 peak certainly if he was able to pull off looking 6ft3 countless times in the past. I think Moore was very close to 6ft2 when he played Bond. In 90's he could past for that aswell. Today he looks to be maybe 6ft-6ft0.5.

From Russia with love 6'1.25-6'1.5, Dr No 6'2-6'2.5, Goldfinger 6'2-6'2.5, 6'1.5-6'2 in Thunderball and 6'2-6'2.5 in the untouchables. I think he was most likely a strong 6ft2 at peak. Going once! Going twice!

He looked 6'2" mostly. If anything he looked 6'2.5" in shoes without them probably he was exactly 6'1.5". If he was measured this height by the tailors in 1962 then I believe them. If Connery is 6'2.5" in flattish dress shoes then thats probably why he often appeared close to 6'3". Barefoot I could have sworn he was not a hair under 6'2" but maybe he was 6'1.5".

But a 6`2" bodybuilder at 177lbs? That is very very light weight. I would have guessed Connery at around 200lbs in Bond days.

The 6 ft 3 measurement was his stage height IN SHOES, and his maximum height was maybe about 6 f 2 as a young man, but 6 ft 1 1/2 was his actual height recorded by the tailors. Hugh. If Connery was measured 6'1.5" barefoot by the tailors in Saville Row PLUS he claims his own height to be 6'1.5" why would you believe he was almost 6'3"? 191 for Connery is clearly way too high at his absolute maximum the man was 189cm in his twenties. I personally thought he looked a strong 6'2" 188-189cm in the 60s and 70s but not more than this. If they measured him at 6'1.5" barefoot it is only half an inch off my estimate.

Tellem if Connery measured at 6'2 out of bed then he could claim that as his height. I reckon its possible he could have been 191cm out of bed but no higher. 6ft4 barefoot for Connery is dumb and 6ft5 is freaking insane.
TELLEM said on 18/Apr/09
like YOU can tell on screen what a 6'1.5 or 6'2 man looks like. 6'1.5 for sean connery since he was measured at that.
RisingForce said on 17/Apr/09
Stating a height to a fraction midday is absurd. There's no set time that's officially "midday" and your height will vary a lot depending how physical your day was up to whatever "midday" is. Your midday height doesn't last either, you can shrink as much as a half inch more. So the logic there is nonexistent as well.

And they allow morning height for police measurements to pass the 5-8 requirement so of course it's valid. One guy was even allowed to be carried in on a mattress one morning before he was measured for the police test. If morning height counts for something that important then it certainly counts for a lighthearted site like this one.

You can count whatever you want, but don't say things like "morning height doesn't count" as if that's a general rule that everyone has to obey. And I'm pathetic? Yeah, alright kid. Why don't you learn how to spell absurd before calling me pathetic. "obsurd" hahahahhahaha.
TELLEM said on 17/Apr/09
then deal with it risingforce. morning height doesn't even last. therefore, i don't count it. midday height does last.therefore i count it. but you say midday is obsurd. that doesn't make sense. you really are pathetic.

RisingForce said on 16/Apr/09
What do you mean that doesn't count Tellem? I forgot, you make the rules about what measurements count and what don't. Morning height is a valid measurement as long as it's in barefeet. Someone provide an article or a video that states Connery claiming to be 6'1.5". Until then I'll believe the 6'2.4" measurement, that looks and sounds more accurate. Stating someone's height to a fraction midday seems absurd to me.

Lenad said on 4/Apr/09
There is a chance he was 190cm in his youth. No more though.
Hugh 190cm said on 4/Apr/09
James I think Connery is about 1/2 inch taller than Brosnan. Brosnan 6ft1.5 and Connery 6ft2.
Hugh 190cm said on 3/Apr/09
By how much would you say Connery has Brosnan by.
Hugh 190cm said on 3/Apr/09
I just decided to slim down slightly. I used to weigh 230lbs about ten years ago. Today I'm between 210lbs and 220lbs. Closer to 220lbs.
Doug said on 2/Apr/09
Hugh actually I believe do you that you had 18 inch muscles. Can't remember the page I commented but I certianly didn't believe you at first and made me rather suspicious but I had no idea what the size of my own were. I consider myself a particularly muscular guy, not huge but I'm around 215 pound and measured last night and I have 16.5 inch arms, bigger than I thought as I've never measured in all honesty. Chest I measure all the time though and I was 47" the last time I measured and I wear L-XL clothes. 18 is still pretty huge but I can just about believe it, but even Arnie only had 19 inch muscles at peak and we all know how bulging he was! If you are 16-17 now and was 18 at peak then you must stilll be pretty buff but 18 inch muscles is very impressive from a body builders point of view. Actually I still think COnnery would have the edge on Brosnan.
Doug said on 1/Apr/09
Ray why would he lie? If he states that 6'1.5" was his exact height why should be disbelieve him? A legit 6'1.5" with a build like Connery's can give a 6'2.5"-6'3" impression in good shoes.
Doug said on 1/Apr/09
Pretty similar I'd say Hugh. Whats odd is that Connery claimed 6'1.5" even at peak. If he claims this as his precise height, I believe him. I'll admit I thought the man looks 6'2.5" at peak but if he states 6'1.5" is exact I believe him, why would he lie? Hes not exactly in Christopher Lee extremely tall territory where he needs to downgrade is he?

Connery was taller than Jack Lord. On the other hand, Connery was clearly shorter than Donald Sutherland. Again Sutherland was between 6-3 and 6-4. Posture and angles make differences. Im 6-2 yet I can look as tall as a 6-4 fellow occasionally.

And most of all: Connery himself stated 6-1
Ray said on 1/Apr/09
Hugh, an interesting tid-bit about Jack Lord. I've posted this before:

"An FBI file regarding a stalker lists his height as 6' 0", 2 inches shorter than his official biography".

He also wore a hairpiece and his real name was Jack Ryan.

That points to around 6' 1.5" for Connery as he was 1.5" taller than Jack Lord. Also your point about Charles Gray being taller than Connery. The only time that might have been the case was in You Only Live Twice when he meets Henderson (Gray) in Japan and Gray is wearing a kimono and barefoot while Connery is in his 3-piece suit with shoes.

As far as Brosnan and Connery. I'd say they are about the same height these days(6'0.5 - 6'1")

How does anyone think Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan match up today in terms of height?
Hugh 190cm said on 31/Mar/09
Adam and Ray. Connery was 2 inches taller than 6ft1 Jack Lord in Dr. No and about 1-2cm taller than Charles Gray. Connery was no less 6ft2 flat in his prime. Today he tops out at 188cm. Sean's peak height in my opinion was
189cm-190cm.
adam said on 30/Mar/09
That`s a good thing to do Ray because I know what Im talking about. Just using logic.

Connery wasn`t taller than 6-2 Charles Gray and was shorter than Julian Glover. Connery could have been 6-2 when young but more likely slightly under. He was just very well-proportioned and always appeared taller than he was. On screen a fellow build like Connery can give a very tall impression.

I agree with the Adam

Doug says on 27/Mar/09
Willard Whyte was 6'3"-6'4" Adam

I`ve heard 6`3 and he did look about two inches taller than Sean.
Doug said on 27/Mar/09
Connery was exactly two inches shorter than that 6'4" black Felix Leiter in Never Say Never Again in 1983. He was 6'2" in 1983.
Doug said on 27/Mar/09
Willard Whyte was 6'3"-6'4" Adam
Ray said on 26/Mar/09
Well then the man himself is lying.
adam said on 25/Mar/09
Remember that Connery has himself claimed 6-1
Lenad said on 24/Mar/09
Ray saying hes 6'1.5 minimum and 6'2 max is silly.
Ray said on 24/Mar/09
Lenad, I've always maintained that he was 6'1.5" in his prime...nothing under that. I'll accept there's a reasonable chance he was a weak 6'2" when he was in his 20's.
Lenad said on 24/Mar/09
Ray anything under 6'1.5 is out of the question for his prime. Of course a full 6'3 looks like a bit much.
#(Hugh)# said on 22/Mar/09
Connery still appears to be a legitimate 6ft2 guy. Peak height 189cm.
Anonymous said on 21/Mar/09
In Untouchables he did look slightly taller than Kevin Costner. 6ft2.4 could be very accurate.
Hugh2 said on 20/Mar/09
I used to think Connery was one of those big 6ft3 guys but after seeing him in From Russia with Love maybe not quite.
Hugh2 said on 20/Mar/09
6ft1 is too low.

Was on the set working for diamands are forever. Sean was then one inch taller than me,that`s exactly 6ft1.5inch.

Doug, you're absolutely right. He was at least 6'2 and probably 6'1 in his late days. The fact is he "looks taller" than he is anyway thanks to his complexion, a perfect combination of appropriate proportions, a subtle inclination of his head on a long and powerful neck, and something peculiar to his nonchalance, his

Sean Connery was in his hey day at least 6'2". 6'4" is a bit of a stretch, but 6'3" is not outrageous. I met him about five years ago and he's a very stout 6'1".

I saw that scene with Peter Franks. When Connery enters the lift he's slouching a fair bit. Then he fully straighens up he's clearly 2cm taller than Franks (Robinson).
Doug said on 13/Mar/09
Peter Franks I thought looked nearer 6'3", big guy.
Doug said on 13/Mar/09
Watch Goldfinger. You watch Connery walk down the corridors in the hotels. He had the long legs and stature of a man between 6'2 and 6'3" I think. Watch him walk in plimsolls up to the maid to get into Goldfingers room. The man was a strong 188-189 peak undoubtedly.
Doug said on 13/Mar/09
Watch Dr. No. You think this guy was only 6'1? C'mon he was nearer 189 peak.
