Under my analysis, I have found that:
Harrison Ford is indeed 5 feet 11.5 inches tall. (182 cm)

Peak height was 6 feet 0.5 (184 cm) inches in Star Wars and Blade Runner.

Height was 6 feet 0 (183 cm) in the Fugitive, 1993--when 1 inch shoes are subtracted:

The Anchorage Daily News - May 23, 1984 pg. 63, reports from one of Ford's stunt doubles in Temple of Doom, Vic Armstrong: "...
"We're the same height (A touch over 6 feet), the same age (Ford is 41, Armstrong 37)."

Ford's peak height may have been 6 feet 1, out of bed -- but 6 ft 1/2 inch is what the evidence thus far suggests.

this guy still looks solid 6', so i guess the peak height is accurate, BTW i found the 360 lbs bench press figure difficult to believe, i've been a gym rat for the last 10 yrs, and only saw 2 guys who could press 360 and above, both pro's, first one is silver medalist in world champs (was benching 420lbs), the other one is a 6'2 guy who weighs more than 250 lbs with 7-8% body fat...

Google Connery Brosnan Harrison Ford afi. Both Connery and Brosnan have around 1.5 inches on Ford. So if Ford is 5'11.75" than makes Brosnan and Connery 6'1.25". Personally I'd round it up and say Ford is 6' and Brosnan and Connery 6'1.5". But this is about right now, he definately looked near 6'1" peak.

IMO Ford has never look shorter than 6'1" in any movie thus far. In the last Indiana Jones his co-star 5'9" Shia LaBeouf wore boots with lifts in order to make it more realistic that he was Ford's son but as the photo I posted showed, Shia wearing normal heel shoes is around 4" shorter than Ford.

As a side note: in the last Indiana Jones, Shea wears high heeled boots and probably lifts which makes Ford look not as tall as his other movies, which is what started the rumor that he was shorter than 6'00" which is a fallacy as the last picture I posted shows Shia with normal shoes looking very short next to a six footer.

This guy is really hard to pin down. He looked to be the perfect example of 6.1 in star wars and the origional indiana jones films. Plus he has stared alongside a great many legitimatly tall actors like Gene Hackman, Sean Connery, John Rhys Davies and Richard Harris and their never seemed to be any noticable height difference. Plus he absolutely towered over Cate Capshaw and Karren Allen, bouth reportedly 5.7. Yet today he looks to be struggleing with a flat 5.10 at best. I think he could well have been a legit 6.1 when he was younger. I know a guy who is the same age as Ford. He used to be a strong 6.2, now he can barely stretch himself up to 5.11. Gravity gets us all in the end. Plus Ford never had the greatest posture to begin with, and aparently he has suffered lot of on set injuries in his carrer. So regardless of what he started out as, he has clearly lost a lot of height.

I don't think Ford was ever 6'1. I got the impression of 6'0.25 - 6'0.5. Sean Connery was 1.25 - 1.5 inches taller than him in Jones. I see comments below that he was only slightly shorter, but I don't think that is true. If you look at the premier photos Connery is definitely 1.25- 1.5 inches taller than Ford. I disagree with the claims that he has shrunk by such a great degree. He still looks about 6ft from what I can tell.

Those who try to maximize or minimize by +/- half an inch aren't really getting anywhere because it's not even possible to distinguish that much with a naked eye, or even a measuring meter for that matter because too many factors such as posture, ground level, footwear are at play.

Here's a clip from The Conversation, it's tough to say how much of a difference there is between Ford and Hackman, but there's definitely at least an inch or more. Do take in mind that Ford was wearing some serious Three's Company heeled shoes, compared to Hackman's more traditional/standard dress shoes! You're right Ray, if Hackman was 6ft2 in his prime but still maintains a 1-2 inch advantage over Ford who's wearing 2" heeled shoes, how could he have been a solid 6ft1 unless Hackman was considerably taller?

In the film The Conversation, Hackman looked at least 2" taller than him. In one scene there was about 3". There's no way he could have been 6'1". That would put Hackman at almost 6'4".

James I agree with your assessment! I too think Ford has only looked 6ft in the majority of his films, and for the last 10 years or so only in the 5ft11 range. Costner has always looked like a legit 6ft1, as opposed to Ford who only gave that impression in his films from the late 70's and earlier. After rewatching Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD last week, it's apparent how much he's shrunk over the years. I'd guess he's more like 5ft11.25 maybe even 5ft11 today, and 6ft-6ft plus in shoes!

Yeah he shares a similarity with Quaid, but moreso in the last few years. I saw Vantage Point a while back, and was struck by how similar they looked!

I'd agree he looked 6ft1 in his shoes in The Devil's Own, but not barefoot! There's a scene in the beginning of the film where he answers the door in his socks, and Brad Pitt walks in and has a good 1.5 inches on him.

Once again I'd say the only time on screen he's looked near 6ft1 was in his films prior to 1981! In some shots in Raiders of the Lost Ark he looked it, the same goes for Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now! But to me, from Blade Runner(1982) on he's looked at best near 6ft, and then steadily dropping to a 5ft11ish looking guy in the late 80's to the present! He looks practically identical in size to Jay Leno when he's come on his show in the last 10 years or so, and he was absolutely dwarfed by both Josh Hartnett(6ft2.75) and Liam Neeson(6ft4) in the films they made together which are only 5-6 years old!

If he really was 6ft1, which I can't rule out completely because I've never met him, then he absolutley is one of the most average looking 6ft1 guys I've ever seen on screen!

About the only time I would say Ford has looked close to 6ft1 was during his early films prior to 1981! From pretty much Return of the Jedi(1983) on he's looked around 6ft, and in everything since the mid to late 90's he's looked in the 5ft11 range. I would guess he's around 5ft11.25-5ft11.5 now, and was 6ft0.5 tops peak.

I agree James that in What Lies Beneath he didn't look 6ft1 at all, in fact I'd bet he was only 5ft11.5 tops in that film. As for the Indy films, he could look close to 6ft1 in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but from Temple of Doom to the present he looked shorter. This would make sense considering how bad he messed up his back during the Temple shoot!

This is just plain silly! I've met him and I'm 5'11" and he was taller by at least an inch, maybe two. That was back in the mid-1980s. He's only a few years older than me. I was recently measured for a physical and I was still 5'11". And I have a bad back with a disintegrating lower disc. I doubt he's lost that much height.

Eddie, are you saying they wanted to play up Connery's height in Last Crusade, or Connery is an inch taller? Because if anything they'd want to do what they did in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, by taking a much shorter co-star(LaBeouf) and make him look as tall as Ford. I honestly think Connery is legitimately taller then Ford by a good 1-1.5 inches. As for their shoes, Connery wore normal heeled period dress shoes to Ford's boots, which upon closer inspection are struggling for an inch heel.

Connery in Last Crusade looks to have a good 1.5 inches on Ford for the majority of the film! One more thing regarding Ford's current physical condition, in the new Indy film you can see how much Ford's head and neck have lowered in relation to his shoulders. I can only guess the cartilage in his neck vertebrae has diminished as well, so his head looks more compacted on top of his body. Back even 10 years ago he was more elongated all over, but now he seems to be compressing and looking squatter. His body posture, pitch, and proportions(limbs etc.) all look out of whack, which clearly points to his physical injuries over the years, as well as shrinkage with age.

I agree. I'm pretty sure he's still close to 6ft1. I saw the new Indy movie last night and Neil Flynn, (of SCRUBS fame) who is 6ft5 was in the movie standing next to Ford. Flynn had a 4 inch advantage over Ford. Watch the movie and you'll see.

In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, you could see at times how jacked up Ford's back is by the way he walked! He really is pitched forward now, and slightly hunched. His posture is never that great as well, so all these factors plus shrinkage I'm sure are the reason why he can come across as 5ft11ish. He could still be 6ft if he stretched himself out and stood up as straight as can be.

My dad has the same problem at 70, the majority of the time he looks 5ft9.5-5ft10 tops, but when he stands up straight he can still hit near 5ft11.

-sean connery would be about 6`0, or 6`1 at a stretch?
-Jonathan Rhys Davies was only about 5`10.5 at his prime?

And many other actors we would suddenly have to subtract 2 inches from.

Yeah James, I agree it makes no sense for Ford to wear them, but with LaBeouf and Winstone it's possible. I think that and camera trickery are the culprits here! LaBeouf wore thick heeled motorcycle boots in the movie, so a lift is possible. Ford wore the same old boots from the original 3 films with what looks to have been a normal 1-1.25 max inch heel.

In the movie Children of Men Clive Owen(6ft2) runs around in flip flops for virtually the second half of the film and still looks like an exceptionally tall man. He stands out in every crowd he's in, and towers over most. I'm sorry, but I have never seen Ford look remotely close to that tall in any film or pic he's been in. At a solid 6ft1 barefoot, with shoes or boots he'd be around 6ft2-6ft2.5. He's never looked that to me, the most I could see is 6ft1.5 in boots, but that's it!

When Ford came out and Leno greeted him they were the exact same height, with Leno looking to maybe even have the slightest edge. Leno is listed at 5ft11, but many think he's 5ft9 and a lift wearer. Regardless, Ford and him were almost evenly matched. If Ford is 5ft11.75 now and 6ft0.75 or so in shoes, Leno has to be at least 5ft11 and near 6ft1 while wearing 2 inch lifts. I really can't see him at 5ft9 with 4 inch lift shoes, or 5ft10 with 3 inch lifts. LOL

If Leno is shorter, then Ford is too, and not the 5ft11.75 he's listed. I wouldn't be surprised if he's more like 5ft11-5ft11.25 these days.

I agree James! I live in the states, and to me the average appears to be around 5ft11. I see a lot of guys that are in this range and taller, more and more often. The last sporting event I went to was a strong indicator of this, with myself at 6ft plus in shoes feeling pretty average. I've heard several times now that guys in the UK are usually on average closer to 5ft11-6ft, and from what you're saying this sounds to be true!

6ft does seem to be the old fashioned tall height, whereas now a solid 6ft2 stands out as a legitimately tall individual.

I think Ford was a legit 6'1 in his heyday but I think after "temple of doom" (He had major back surgery during filming) he was more like 5'11 and 6 feet. There is a picture of him standing next to a famous model (I can't remember her name) and she's 5'9. It was at some award ceremony so I'm sure she's wearing at least 3 inch heals or more...so that makes Ford about 6 feet now. Remember Clint Eastwood was 6'4 until probably around "Unforgiven" where you can see he is taller than both Hackman and Freeman but in "Million Dollar Baby" he's a few inches shorter. He's had back problems and he slouches so he's now like 6'1 or 6'2.

Regarding me, I am pretty short 5’7 -8 (depending when!) range but everybody think I am 5’11 or even more because I wear cow boy boots just for I love that!
I always was told I look much taller and I precise that just to insist on how subjective our vision of so-called facts can be.
Many tall people, 6’1 or even 2 never stand up straight and loose 2 even 3 inches .
Considering I always stood “up” and with 2 inch heels, I don’t look that much short beside them!
I don’t do that deliberately but result is the same!
About Harrison, he really was a very tad taller than my friend who was aware of that.

The photo anonymous posted earlier Click Here shows Harrison at about a 1/4 inch over 6' when you flatten the hair and I'm pretty sure it would have been taken with his shoes on. That means he would have about 1" 1/4 shorter without the shoes, which would have made him 5'11 when he was 51.

I very much doubt that he was ever 6'1, possibly at absolute best 5'11 3/4 in his 20's and 30's which would have been 6'1 IN shoes but certainly not out of them.... I expect thats how the 6'1 originally came about, seeing as many people give their height in shoes especially celebs, thou he might have never been taller than the 5'11 seeing as he was only 51 in the Fugetive photo and maybe had lost Zero height by that time?

I know 5'11 seems a little low for a man who looked so tall in Apocaylpse Now, so PERHAPS the height scale in the Fugative photo started 1" above the level of the floor (to account for shoes) in which case he would have indeed been the 6' 1/4 in the pic, I dunno thou anyone seen those police height scales up close?

That's a pic from 1993's The Fugitive, so Ford was 51 and looking at around 6ft maybe a hair over if you combed down his bushy hair. Now the debate on whether he was barefoot or wearing shoes will ensue. I'm pretty sure they make you wear your shoes when you get your mugshot, and only take them and your belt away afterwards. I could be wrong though. Granted this is a movie still, but my guess is his shoes are on.

Bizzarely Ford was spotted on a canal boat holiday in England and Wales a couple of years ago. Those who met him commented waht a nice guy he was, at his stage of career he doesnt need to be but it looks like he knows... It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice!

Good pic Anon, it really shows the difference between Ford and Connery. It's the same in Last Crusade, but Spielberg shot the film with varying angles making Ford look taller than Connery(6ft2) at times and then shorter at others. It's also pretty safe to assume Connery at 59 years of age during the making of Last Crusade was probably not near his peak height.

Well he has always been known for being an intense guy who's fiercely protective of his privacy, this could be misconstrued as being grouchy. I would wager that being caught off guard for an autograph or picture, by someone other than a kid could put him in a foul mood. I've never heard stories of him being a grouch towards kids though, only adults! It just really seems that the "Hollywood Life" and everything that comes with it, is something he's never been comfortable with! The guy lives on a ranch in Wyoming for God's sakes, and keeps out of the public eye as much as humanly possible.

Kevin I agree in The Conversation Ford is looking 1-1.5inches shorter than Hackman. Hackman could have been 6ft1.5 not a full 6ft2 in the early 70's when this film was made to Ford's possible 6ft0.25-6ft0.5.

I just saw Dreamscape from the mid 80's, and Dennis Quaid(6ft) looks to have almost exactly the same height difference standing with Kate Capshaw that Ford did in Temple of Doom. One thing is for sure he's shrunk, and is looking more 5ft11 these days.
