Listen, this John Malkovich is ****in huge! I dont know if he is physically tall in real life but in Of Mice And Men he is put across as a "big ****". And dont get me wrong, he is tremendously wide, but if he is only less then 6', how did he seem so bloody huge in that film? They couldn't of just had small other actors. Fair enough, they could've boosted his height by huge shoes but it doesn't seem physable.

GTI 5FT 11 would be considered shortish to some people just like 6ft id considered tall to some people and average to others. Anyway he could be shorter right now, I just know he always seemed to be over 6ft and looked down at quite a lot of people in different movies he was in, such as Con Air.

Looks more 5'11" next to 5'9" Joe Pantoliano in Empire of the Sun, there's one long shot of them walking together in an army barracks with same type of shoes. Malkovich has 2 inches (maybe 2 and a half) on Pantoliano, but Panto had bad posture because his leg was weak.

Clay: I believe they cast him because of his acting and not his height. It wasn't hard making him look taller. First of all, his director / co-star Gary Sinise is 5ft8, he is 4" taller than him barefoot. Plus they gave Malkovich lifts and tricked with camera angles (placing him closer to the camera, etc.).

It's similar to the case of Boris Karloff, who was only 5ft9 - 5ft10 in real life, neverthless got cast as Frankenstein's monster and wore huge and very noticable platform shoes in the role.

If you listen to the "Of Mice and Men" commentary (yes I'm a geek who likes listening to film commentaries :), Gary Sinise said John's not that tall - they gave him lifts for his shoes and they made sure to cast shorter people in the movie to give the appearance that John was much bigger than everyone else. That being said, I have no idea how tall he is, but my guess is between 5'10 and 6'0.

I met John Malkovich at an outdoor concert in 1993. I'm 5'9" and he was 3 or 4 inches taller than me, at least 6 feet. I was surprised because I never had really thought of him as tall.

Stood beside him at the Eurostar terminal at London Waterloo when he was buying a coffee. I am 176cm and he seemed 2 inches taller than me, max. I would say a shade under 6ft. I was surprised because I thought he was taller. If you watch Dangerouse Liasons, he stands a little taller than Uma Thurman, so I don't think he quite makes 6ft.

Yeh its true. What PJ did at Sundance was he took him to one side, asked him to remove his shoes, then measured him with an exact stadiometer. And he was at most, 5'11" (180.3 cm). I can vouch for that, coz I remember thinking, wow its unusual when a guy looks at least 6' for the whole of his acting career, never ever been recorded as under this, that you should then meet him and he is actually UNDER that. Really stood out on me. Still at least now its been proven. You know what he's probably 5'10".

In the movie Con Air, there's a very brief shot of him on a small TV screen in front of a height chart. If I remember correctly, the chart put him at just over 6'. That could make sense because if he is 6' or close to it, shoes would make him just over it.

Editor Rob - In VARIETY it stated that Malkovitch wore boots that raised his height by 3". That was the year the movie came out. If John is 6', then that would boost him into "Lennie territory". :-) John Steinbeck was 6'2", so he wouldn't have considered a 6' man "huge". Though there is NO specific description of Lennie OR George's height; Lennie is described as being a "very big & tall man".

John Malkovich is 6'1. There is no way that he is anything less than that. Just watch Con Air. He is a fraction taller than Nic Cage And about and inch shorter than Nic Chinlund. There is a particular scene where he is standing opposite Chinlund, he looks an inch shorter. I definitely agree with the height listed above.

Hey Wiseguy 727: you say you are 182 cm, correct? so (if it's so) if you wore then normal 3 cm shoes you are 185 cm, if you say he was taller, he-now comes the part: he must have been really with shoes on maybe maximum 187 cm, so he's 184 cm, unless you were wearing flat shoes..but if you were measured with shoes makes you: 179 cm without, then Malkovich is 180 cm without his shoes.. which theory is right???

Through friends in the entertainment industry, I met John Malkovich at a fundraiser while working in London. After a recent physical, my physician measured my height at exactly 5'11.5". John, who was wearing chunky-heeled dress shoes(an inch and one-half), stood about 6'0"; just barely taller than me. I'd approximate that he is about 5'10.5" or 5'10.75" standing barefoot.
